Army Major Now Says Malaka And Rehan Did Not Assault Him

By Colombo Telegraph –

The Army Major Chandana Pradeep, who was injured during a brawl at JAIC-Hilton Colombo now says Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeratne did not assault him.

His lawyer filed an affidavit before the Colombo Fort Magistrate today stating that Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeratne did not assault him, Colombo media report says. The affidavit also stated that five others, who are in the remand prison, have assaulted him and also agreed to settle the matter amicably.

Meanwhile both Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijeratne, who were ordered to be remanded by the Fort Magistrate yesterday, were admitted to the Prison Hospital from the Magazine prison and the other five suspects were transferred to the normal prison ward.

As always, we only have to feel sorry for the state of our country. If a ranked army officer cannot defend himself against uneducated goons, what would an ordinary citizen do? Where is the opposition when we need them? Many a incidents like this is more than enough for them to topple this unruly government. RW should really go home and let someone else do the needful. I only blame him for all this. It is his silence and spineless attitude which causes these.

Very true Rohan, RW must be at the bottom of this, setting up the Major for Malaka to assault and then for the Major to back track that the people could put the blame on RW. This is all RW’s fault. Can you kindly explain how RW can topple the MR govt? Holding a rally? Leave RW out can anyone else do that and MR will just step down, judging from the present Sri Lankam polity. Now see Hirunika, her father was gunned down and after all the hooha Hirunika is back with Namal gang. What more can you expect from the masses of this country? Certainly a Land like no other, never ever. I can understand this low bred lot, but when equally there are people who blame RW for all this for the excesses of MR, they are even worse. What hope there is for redemption with such intelligentia?

RW is on the pay-list of MR. so, we cannot consider him as one of the oppositions. Whoever, goes against RW will have to face the disciplinary panel of UNP or else keep shut. RW and Rauf Hakeem are shame for their party.

Con. Dr. Maveric, this is common rhetoric, the anti-Ranil resort to. How MR met RW to get the support of the UNP and how MR got 40 Corrupt UNP MPs to cross over who had issues with reference to COPE is no longer a secret. Thereafter repeated attempts by MR to get RW unseated with support from the Sajith faction in the UNP is also not a secret anymore. The difference between the present UNP and the rest of the Political Parties is that there is discipline in the UNP maintained by RW. A classic case is that, had an incident of this nature taken place in the UNP, RW will not go to cover up as MR do, but will allow the Laws of the Land to take course. Can the same be said of MR? As for your allegation, whoever goes against RW will have to face disciplinary panel, is to maintain discipline in the Party unlike the antics of various MPs in the MR govt. involved in Rape, Murder, Abduction, Bribery, Cheating, robbing Public Funds and Drug Trafficking are safeguarded, subverting the Laws of the Land by MR. This is the clear difference between RW and MR. There is no point blaming RW untill the masses enmasse support RW to defy MR adopting corrupt election practises to remain in power. The Public has to understand that it is not RW with his single vote that elected MR, but with the vote of some of the masses. There is no other way that one can unseat MR other than at an Election and all these critics of RW who wants MR out, has to help him voting RW, without which RW alone can not unseat MR. RW does is no Magician and has no magic wand to perform miracles unlike MR who is performing Miracles at the moment. So let the present situation deteriorate further to a point where the masses will suffer immensely from their benefactor MR. So ‘Good Luck’ to all the critics of RW.

Mervin proved it not once dozens of times sofar, that he can do whatever he wants. People of the country to be blamed for the misery that the opponents have to face today.

If I were that Major, I would better have killed myself not being surrendered to this kind of rascals.

This is not second to the incident in which a civil service man was tied to a tree and later, the poor man was forced to make a statement not to have done so.

This Major has probably got a sudden episode of selective amnesia. If this chap was never assaulted by the two thugs ,then by whom. I thought there were some cctv tapes. Has anyone in the press seen them. It is pretty obvious the poor bugger was subjected to intense pressure by his superiors and powers that be to make this affidevit absolving Malaka and Rehan from any assault charges. If this Major is caught lieng after his affidevit he may end up in jail himself. This episode shows to the whole world the degree of blatant corruption and nepotism that is prevalent in this country. Thugs rule the roost and Mervin Silva can boast to the whole country that he and his cronies are above the law. We wonder whether The president will have anything to say about this dirt drama..

No doubt, we will be cornerned on this world sooner than thought, because of these idiots. Srilanka is under watch by IC. These buggers are playing with general public not even respecting the UN resolution. Surely, Mahinda Samaringhe or anyone who will represent the country in the next session of the UNHRC will have to mask to face hard questions.

Mahadenamutta and 40 thieves – this could fit best to current rulers in SL. MR keeps quiet. Justice minsiter is almost dead as always been. Law professionals or senior politicians are indifferent specially when it goes unlawful issues in the country today. Afterall opposition though not comprising of one party, they seem to be turning their eyes to themsevles. Only JHU had louded the need of perpetrators to be remanded.

Now with a lie, the accused will be bailed out, and the same or in a worst form of crimes will be the next step. Instead of becoming an example, minister sons behave further wild. This is presenday srilanka.

Why the senior ministers seem to have nothing to say in this regard, those who can raise their voices – but keep silent is the dillamal question.

Anyway, this kind of system would last longer – wait and see..

So long top leadership is over corrupted and resistant to any critics, they may play with the innocient people.

The army major has been reported to have been at the Hilton Hotel in his private capacity as a bodyguard to a casino kingpin, not in uniform.
The army earlier said that he and his group had been investigating drug traffickers.
This is the usual ‘knee-jerk’ reaction by army & police when caught by media & public in embarassing circumstances.
The army is thus in an embarassing position.
Hence this new “confession” to avoid the army’s ‘dirty linen being washed’ in a court of law.
All important & political figures develop illnesses when remanded.
Also major fraudsters like Lalith Kotelawala.
Soon, if the case drags on, they will be admitted to the Merchants Ward at Colombo National Hospital.
The ‘amicable settlement’will save everyone from embarassment.
The merry ‘democratic republic’ will carry on.

Justice, I believe both could be charged under the Law. Maraka for assault as there is evidence of assault on CCTV. The Major for perjury and whatever other nefarious activity he was involved. If not the Law is not only an ass but also a Donkey.

Before comment go and read ‘The Prince’ written by Niccolo Machiavvelli(1469-1527) (father of modern Politics. You can get some knowledge about Politics, Power etc. I have read your comments lot of times (its like same song with different tune. readers can see how u emotional) but we cant get any kowledge exept your personal political view. We know that you much appriciate with RW (he is Gay or not)and dream of his leadrship to the Sri lanka. Tmrw RW will be good/bad MR will be bad/good. We have to accept the situation and enjoy today unless ruin the blood in body. Try to give some knowledge to readers what you have.

We believed that ours is a peculiar society, absolutely insensitive and are willing to take a lot of flak. How can I give any knowledge or even Michiawelli himself reborn, when there are Pundits in the calibre of Wasantha Pathirage. Wasantha please can you explain how one can ruin blood in body?

Suprised to see why you guys feel that the current regime is still doing their job meeting all the expectations of the general public. Nevertheless, I dont believe that you kind are more LANKEN POPULATION today. No matter, no enformcements of law and order, reduction of abuses of all kinds, masses are continued to stay passive as never before in the history. No matter ministers manipulate police, army or any other institituions arbitoraly, even they kill their opponents at day light…but seem to further abuse state funds.

Sure, RW could have deficiencies, but as a person (no matter he is gay or not), he is the one among the tinniest minority of uncorrupted politicians present day in our country. Berlin´s current mayor though a gay guy is one of the most powerful social democrats for the past few years. So, sexual orientation cant stand on your way to the popularity. Alone for the reason, that RW is uncorrupted, there are many like me who still repsect him a lot. Why the lanken opposition is weakened today is explained by dozens of factors including lack of its vociferous ministers and the new amds arbitorily added to the prevailing consitution. All those greedy Ministers who changed the side for pitty indulgencies seem to the front runners of coalition today. See, Rajitha (honest, but stay silent), SB (Incapable H education minister in the history, no honest but filthy mouthed), GL (honest, but more like theoretitian), Keheliya (not at all honest, giving just evasive answers to media to cover their naked picture) are the ones who dishonestly continue to support the ruling coalition.

In an appaling situation like we ve been facing in the country today- only option is to go on street protests as were the case for arabs in several countries in the recent past. All kind of professionals (lawyers, Doctors and others) together with general public should take a lead to go to street protests regularly.

Pintu, I agree that if all the Professionals Lawyers, Doctors, Accountants, Administrators, all come out stopping work, without division, bringing the govt. machinery to a grinding halt, there is no chance or hope in hell for MR to continue. There is nothing MR could do to survive even if he has the backing of the Forces. The same Public force could demand any successor to do his job properly and maintain Democracy as otherwise the finality to be the same, then none would attempt to terrorise this society again. One important thing, all wealth of individuals in the system unable to support with claim should be nationalised and the individuals punished without fear or fervour.

        • 0
          0

          Gamini,

How many of our people would fearlessly come forward to protest is the question. Many of them remain passive as never before. Almost three decades ago, even first year University undergraduates were that motivated to protest against “Dawala Pathrikawa”.Today many of in our society would not even react even if their parents are brutally attacked or murdered, not taking serious anything – they behave as if they are over hallucinated. Perhaps ones living in the country may feel it why, I myself cant find any reasons yet. See, the current BRUTAL ASSAULT and its developments FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS are shaped up according to their likes -have a big impact on similar criminal acts by the youth today. Mervin also makes uses of the interview to add more about the transparency of the incumbent GOVT. Instead of taking actions against increasing crimes, politicians and the respective authorities are not serious.

Yes, all illegal assets should be nationalized and prisons should be made filled with all these buggers. Far underdeveloped nations would have reacted long back, but ours are yet to grasp the NEED OF THE HOUR.

      Mr. Ayman

A Major in The Salvation Army is unlikely to buckle under pressure. Truth, honesty, integrity and struggle against injustice are among their non-negotiable values.

However, the Major of SLA is under severe pressure now. Almost inhuman pressure. It is highly possilbe GOSL made an offer that the Major cannot refuse. In true Mafia style.

THE MAJOR SHOULD HAVE SHOT THESE GOONS DEAD AND PUT THE GUN IN ONE OF THE GOONS HANDS, AND FALLEN TO THE GROUND. THEN ALL THESE TROUBLES WOULD HAVE BEEN SORTED OUT WITHOUT ANY MORE GOONS BEHAVING IN THIS MANNER.

Of course Bhartha and 3 others paid with their lives for that victory. May they rest in peace.

knowing all parties involved in this matter I would like to correct some inaccuracies mentioned therein.
The writer says that his mother raised her children as a single mother most of her early life. He goes on to say “an achievement in western nations which is held in high regard”.
Soon after her first marriage ended Sachine Jayawickrame’s mother married for a second time, a businessman from Homagama. Soon after that marriage ended she married for a third time, the politician the late Mano Wijeyeratne.
Therefore she was never a single mother in her early life as stipulated in Sachine Jayawickrame’s article.
I hope you give my remarks the same prominence as given to Sachine Jayawickrame’s article as I feel the public should know the facts as many things seem to be covered up.

Nuwan. I think you are the only person who has got the correct story. The Major was apparently never there in any kind of official investigating capacity – but to provide protection to this other thug you mentioned with the blessings of his high-ups. Unfortunately, this Major gets assaulted – for whatever the reason – from Malaka and his puny gang. If the Major pressed charges and there was to be a court case, then loads of skeletons are going to fall out of the cupboard – and many “high-ups” of the Major would face lots of questions. So, in order to quell further complications and embarrassment, the Major was silenced by denying who actually assaulted him. I am sure, the Major must be feeling like an ass now because its an insult not only to him as a military man, but to the entire Army since he got hammererd by a couple of petty little puppies. All that is going to happen now is that there will never be any enquiry and this entie episode will be hush hushed. Consequently, this will give Malaka and his puppy gang a morale boost and further encouragement to go berserk wherever they want. Ultimately, its the peaceloving people of Colombo who will be further terrorized by these goons and thugs in future. P.S. – there is still hope for ALL these thugs to be “neutralized” if those who oppose these thugs and their thuggery could mete out vigilante justice to totally eliminate these morons.

They should simply eliminate these goons and thugs. The cops are so busy finding traffic problems and catching the guys who make small traffic errors. and they don’t use the right law when it comes to thuggery and gangs. Stand up and eliminate crime to my beautiful Sri Lanka.

a form of self harm behaviour is to bang or hit one’s head on a wall.It is obvious from the major’s bandage on the head,he suffers from this symptom of a borderline personality disorder. It was the good major’s coping mechanism to obtain temporary relief by hitting his head against a wall.

As for Malaka and his friend being accused, the very fact that they were in the vicinity would have been enough to make people convince the major when he got back conciousness that, these were the two culprits who assaulted him,due to their dubious records.

Anyway alls well that ends well because once the amnesia cleared up the major realised his mistake and apologised profusely to the boys, and they in turn said that they were his lifelong friends now and if he ever needed a favour just telephone them and it will be done.

That is why Srilanka is considered a paradise.Today’s enemies due to some misunderstanding, can become tommorows life long friends after the enlightenment begins to spread.
