  1. India was side by side with Sri Lanka during the massacres: satellite coverage, electronic surveillance were actually provided by New Delhi. The magnitude of what was going to happen was perfectly clear. The development of events showed that India choose Rajapaksa and will keep on supporting him. The farce in Geneva is simply a gimmick to fool public attention: UNHRC resolution in 2013 will simply pursue 2012 resolution, which in turn asked the implementation of LLRC: no reference to war crimes or aspiration of the Tamil.
India’s priority is to control Colombo, not to free the Tamils.

  2. The Indian Government has a somewhat schizoid approach to the Sri Lanka issue, as it guided firstly by not wanting Sri Lanka to be a prosperous Singapore type economy, as India will look like a poor relation. Don’t forget that first and foremost, and India foreign policy with its extensive RAW infiltration is solely tasked with ensuring this is the case.

So destability in Sri Lanka is of primary importance. Secondly, as Tamil Nadu is an important constituent in the Indian Government, any political undertakings are meant appease that constituency no matter if it either right or wrong.

It is that latter premise that is used in the SL foreign policy that no matter what SL does, unless the Tamil Nadu is happy there will always be pressure on the Center to oppose any development.

As to the 13 or 13A, it is dead in the water in Sri Lanka, and whatever promises Rajapakse makes to the Indians they will not compromise that as it is NOT politically acceptable domestically in Sri Lanka.

In Conclusion therefore there will be permanent stalemate as far as action by SL is concerned with regard to acting upon Indian desires, and it is therefore better to play second fiddle to the US, than look like an impotent buffoon being fooled by SL.

I know India is mad as hell with SL for the way the SL are duplicitous. They will never do what they say. As far as the real issue of a better future for all minorities in Sri Lanka especially the Tamil constituency, India has forgotten about that. If they concentrate on that alone, they will earn friends with the SL Tamils and be looked upon more as a Godfather of Sri Lanka. Until that day dawns the cat and mouse game will continue with NO resolution.

  3. Will DMK have the guts and the commitment to bring a no confidence motion against the External Affairs Minister if India does not support the motion of US? DMK should warn the Congress party that it would bring a motion against the Minister ahead of the voting in UN so that the External Affairs Minister knows exactly where he stands.

  4. “After its rather miscued intervention from 1987 to 1990, the Tamil issue ceased to be a dominant issue in India’s Sri Lanka policy formulation. Its policy considerations had a host of other objectives including furthering trade, strategic security links, and constructive cooperation.”

True, this is due to the Malayalam people in the Indian Foreign Service and External Ministry.

  5. There will unlikely be any change in the India’s foreign policy towards Sri Lanka as long as there is a cosy connection between Rajapakse and the
    Malayali Mafia in New Delhi.

  6. India is paying the price for its diabolical intervention to save the LTTE and its leader, Prabhakaran, in 1987. It is India that is now suffering because of the Geneva Human Rights Games, not Sri Lanka, and that’s why Col. Hariharan is so upset. If India goes too far in pushing Sri Lanka I am sure there is plenty that Sri Lankans can reveal to the world about India’s dirty tricks on their island. The Sri Lankan government is hardly likely to make major changes to its policies in order help India solve its internal divisions, is it? Time to offer more bribes to the retired actress in Tamil Nadu to keep her quiet, Col. Hariharan!

“India is paying the price for its diabolical intervention to save the LTTE and its leader, Prabhakaran, in 1987.”

India came to Sri Lanka to hunt down LTTE and safe guard Sri Lankan state. The project was discontinued after Premadasa and his armed forces shook hands with LTTE, helped VP with arms, finance, medical facilities and political cover for its atrocities.

The people paid a heavy price for Sri Lankan state’s stupidity.

Am I the only one who believes that you are reading too much of retired high ranking policeman’s revisionist history?

While the LTTE was bogged down in the North East Sri Lankan state had the freedom to massacre its own people in the South. In essence India kept the lid on LTTE and freed Sri Lankan armed forces and paramilitaries to kill, kill kill innocent people elsewhere.

Sorry – we are not talking about the ‘retired policeman’ who said LTTE burnt the Jaffna Library.
