  1. Sri Lanka a Democracy? Ha…ha…ha…that is the understatement of the century my dear Dr. Rajiva Wijesinha Rajapaksa. :)

    • Presidunce Bean:
I beg to differ: you are dead wrong because to classify Sri Lanka as “a democracy” is an OVERSTATEMENT, not an understatement.
How any decent human being would describe Rajiva W, of course, is another matter altogether and perhaps not fit for publication in such as Colombo Telegraph unless you want to turn CT into some kind of obscene news rag!

    • I respected this guy before, but I cant respect him any more today.

Knowing the fact that they the ones who are capable of shaping up the ruling govt seem to be paying a blind eye to the issues that they are compelled to address to protect democratic values in the country today.

See the joke of the day – Malayaka the son of filthy mouth notorious minister -Mervin is seen in public even after openly assulated to Army heads.

Can we at all name current ruling as- democratic governance ????????????

  2. Should have continued the narrative until his boss..why stop at JR..The 18th amendment, repeal of the 17th amendment, the dictatorial centralizing of power with one family, making parliament and even the cabinet irrelevant etc. Pow the poor fellow might be jobless if he dared to say the truth. If he’s such a liberal thinker he should not be part of this racist dictatorial regime. One word – Hypocrite

  3. Hi Blue Eye Prof.

Who are you to talk or write about democracy?

Is it democracy to talk nonsense as you wish? If not where is the photograph of the Blue eye children that you saw in the IDP camps?

Do you mean to say that all those Blue eye children were also killed by your relatives soldiers.

Stop your lectures on any subjects.

Please get back to your University to teach English.

  4. The President boasts of “His” Democracy to a gathering of Foreigners.
This is equivalents to Gaddaffi^s 42 yrs of “Elections” and also the
    Democracy also practiced by Mugabe.

These Foreigners can be easily taken for a ride with the regular
“Shows” conducted by the Regime and supported by cohorts like Rajiva,
    DJ & Rohona.

  5. “We must after all promote the understanding that democracy is not just about elections, it is also about governance. Responsible and transparent government is best achieved through …”

Really? So do you think there is good governance prevailing here and now? Do let us know your view – particularly as you are one of the ‘advisors’ to the president. And if you think good governance does not prevail, and your advice to change this aspect is being ignored, why don’t you step down?

    • are u refering countries that are 100% democratic ? Yes there are none. 100% democracy can NOT lead a country because human beings are more or less like animals when there is no law in action. Most known example highlighted in media these days – son Malaka and his friends behaviours.

Some european and south east asian countries have social democratic ruling. Their laws control peoples behvaviour safegurding their rights properly. This you will further be clear if you compare ours with that of Germany, France and several other countries in Europe. Law and due punishments are equal to ruling politicians, ones in monachies and every citizen of those countries. Why cant our leaders who spend lots of funds for the foreign travels cant learn the good systems from them?

  8. The democrazy in Sri Lanka has no bounds. There is a detailed article in Tamil by a Muslim man, who describes how the results were doctoerd in the Eastern Province, particularly in Batticaloa, to let UPFA win. Acording to DBS Jeyaraj, Tamils are around 72% of Batticaloa district, 31%of Trincomalee and 20% of Amparai district. ITAK (or TNA) won 51%, 29% and 16% of the votes respectively in these districts. It seems, Pillaiyan was 4th in the list and UPFA was to win only three seats. No check and balances for these any more??

  10. “…I am grateful to the Pakistan Liberal Forum for having invited me to speak today at your seminar on Challenges for Democracy in the upcoming Elections. Though you have suggested I present a regional perspective, it would be more practical I think for me to talk about democracy in Sri Lanka and the challenges we have faced, which may perhaps have lessons for you in Pakistan too…”

Ha..Ha.. what a comedy of errors! This stupid naipanikkiya is lecturing and advocating on democracy! Are Pakistanis such fools as to take advice from donkeys like Rajiva from Sri Lanka? May be according to Pakistani world view they think what exist in Sri Lanka is democracy! Thank god, he did not embark on regional democracy which would have been a mockery! Is there democracy at all in Sri Lanka? Is the enacting of the 18th amendment to the constitution a furthering or a depletion of democracy? Is undermining and weakening of all the checks and balances which once existed democracy? Is the erasure of the concept of separation of powers democracy? Is bribing and buying elected representatives of people from one political ideology and party to the government side democracy? Is the willful and calculated deformation and dismantling of judiciary, law and law enforcement arms of a functioning democracy democracy? Are all the paramilitary and white van phenomena, extrajudicial killings, pervasive impunity and non-accountability features of a democracy? Is usurping of all the powers vested in various arms and ministries into the executive president democracy? In short is demo-crazy democracy? Those who participated to hear this lunatic’s rant must be even funnier and lunatic than the fake lecturer!

  11. By changing the caption to “Death of Democracy in Sri Lanka caused by Rajapakshas and their bootlickers And The Challenge of saving the country” some meaning could be attributed to this terrible verbiage harangued by a nincompoop.
