  1. 1. Why does not the UNP economist file a fundamental rights case against the appointment of Gordahewa as the new SEC head who has massive conflict of interests?
    2. Why does not the former Head of SEC Karunaratne stop whining and name names and shame the corrupt traders and regime by being a whistleblower instead of whining about the corruption while covering the corrupt to the Rajapakse family who are the real beneficiaries of the transactions carried out by the 17 front men who are under investigation for financial crime?

  2. The question of if we are a Failed Society comes to the fore again. The answer, for sometime, has been almost unanimous. Even if price of
ordinary petrol goes to Rs.200/litre and Bread (Bakery paan) to Rs.100/loaf the people are unlikely to react in large numbers. As an academic in the FUTA observed recently, people are “conditioned” by the State not to react. All the democratic features of legitimate dissent are paralysed. The victory in themanipulated elections held yesterday will be touted out to the country and the world as “evidence the people have endorsed the policy of the Govt” This will be as valid as the weird claims of that charage “democracy” in North Korea and will only fool a people who are ready to be considered fools.

This hollow form of “democracy” will inevitably collapse from within sooner than later. It will take a long time for the country to recover from the deliberately inflicted injury to its life and soul – perhaps more than one generation.

    • Senguttuvan, you state that it will take a long time for the country to recover and perhaps more than one generation. I tend to disagree as the country can be put right in six months, with the right leadership with the powers vested in the Presidency currently, to develop the country. But unfortunately we have the wrong man as the leader as he is using all the powers for protection of his family and cronies and not for the benifit of the masses.
