  1. Get the rubbish lawyers body BASL to act fast, if they are genuinely concerned about the issue, and to declare indefinite work out. nothing more nothing less seems working.

    • It is sad that people of this country have to even sacrifice their lives to convince the need of rule of law

as it is the case with waragoda killing incident.

All these make further clear what a president the Island is governed today.

  3. A number of these students will be our future MPs and judges and even the Chief Justice. There will not be a future at all to Rajapakses as they are being hated by so many. They know that and they want to use their power to their benefit to the maximum now and either they will have the same fate of Gaddafi and the family members or they will be in exile in a country like Iran, Pakistan or China. All the Dictators in the World had a Jolly Good Life for a short period and most of them were killed like dogs by their own people and the others died as paupers.

  4. This letter is a really good one and reaffirms our belief that the youth of today will try to make a better tomorrow. Law students, you recognize the right from wrong, you mention what needs to be done, you acknowledge your responsibilities or what they should be.Go forth my children and correct this pathetic situation in the country without delay. Unfortunately the examples set by many older people are dismal. This is truly pathetic. See the numbers of lawyers in government including the President, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Dilan Perera, Pavithra Wanniarachchi,Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Lalith Dissanayake,Navin Dissanayake,Susil Premajayantha to name a few, who seem unable to understand a)the interpretation of the constitution and b)who should interpret the constitution or C)they pretend not to understand or d)they choose to ignore the role of the judiciary according to Latimer House rules. What respect have they got for the juducuary. The fact is they love their comfortable existence more and are corrupt by all accounts. You have a tough task ahead, but you will get there. I really respect your guts in signing this letter by name. Congratulations!

  5. These are hopeless days. Days when truth is replaced by absolute corruption with thuggery and cowardice come in second and third. It is in such days that you guys have stood up, come out and spoken so eloquently truthfully and beautifully. Congratulations on this excellent piece.
You give this country something to be proud of, to hope in. They say that in every group team or class that starts well, there are those who will fall by the way side, turn to follow lucrative muck paths, get bought-over,forced or frightened in to apathy cowardice indifference. I read every one of your 389 names and prayed silently that this name this one this one will not be the one to follow after the crap examples of lawyers in power these days.

You go guys! Just shine out there! How this Island needs the kind of caliber you demonstrate in your Brilliant letter! Yes.Wow!

  6. Dear Law students. I would like to draw your kind attention to the statement “This move is the culmination of several steps, including the passing of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, to concentrate power in the Executive arm of government”. It is Professor Shirani who approved the Bill and stated that the Bill is not against the Constitution. At least now she must admit her mistake. She has done this to please the “State”. Ultimately it is the C.J. who is responsible for the present situation in the country. She had gone against the Judicial power of the people. Bracegirdle.
