LTTE Ban In EU; Grave Blow Against Rajapaksas

Deputy Minister Ajith P Perera has said the fresh ban imposed by the EU on the LTTE as a terrorist organisation is a grave blow against the attempts made by top leaders of the Rajapaksa regime to acquire the wealth amassed by the terrorist organisation in EU countries.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

Speaking at a press briefing held a short while ago the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said if the lifting of the LTTE ban last year was allowed to continue, it would have created a grave situation as the frozen wealth and assets would have been invested and deployed in activities to help revive the LTTE.

The fresh proscription had been imposed through verdict no: 2015/521 issued on March 26, that banned the LTTE as a terrorist organisation in all countries of the EU. It had been declared in response to the case made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and the government on why the LTTE should be included in the list of terrorist organisations and be proscribed.

“Certain groups have tried to undermine this development by stating that its an automatic process. The government had to make submissions to convince and enlighten the European General Council on the threats that the LTTE has imposed to both world peace as well as in Sri Lanka due to the ban being lifted,” he said.

As being Deputy Minister, which the portfolio Ajith Perera not at all capable, aslo tries to get the credit for someone else job. He’s another crook fit for Rajapakse regime. Shame on him to defend the Shenuka’s appointment in Thailand; the lady notorious for wicked, scandalous corruption in London and Geneva.

It is a grave mistake of the EU against the decision of the courts to ban LTTE again in order to satisfy the Ranil Government. It will have a serious damage to the reconciliation and it will bring back Rajapakse regime permanently and EU and the West away from SriLanka.

      RE: Ban LTTE again?

      Q. Are they still a Terrorist Organization?

Bomb targets Sri Lanka army chief. Then.

Bomb targets Sri Lanka army chief?

A Sri Lankan soldier is taken to an eye hospital after a blast in Colombo
Many soldiers and civilians were wounded in the blast
At least eight people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack on Sri Lanka’s army headquarters, while the head of the army has been seriously injured.
Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka is said to be in a stable condition after surgery in Colombo, where the attack happened.

The military has blamed Tamil Tiger rebels for the attack and launched air strikes on their positions in the east.

There has been a surge in violence in Sri Lanka recently, and the Tigers last week pulled out of planned peace talks.

Responding to the latest attack, President Rajapakse said he would not be cowed by terrorism.

“I emphasize and caution that one should avoid mistaking our desire for peace and our responsibility to achieve it as a government, as weakness,” he said in a televised address.

This is the first suicide bombing in the Sri Lankan capital since July 2004, and the biggest attack blamed on the Tamil Tigers since they signed a truce with the government in 2002.

Though the ceasefire still officially holds, Sri Lanka appears to be heading back to war, the BBC’s Dumeetha Luthra reports from Colombo.

      Fake identification

Military officials say the attacker was a woman who made herself appear heavily pregnant to conceal the explosives.

She presented fake identification and said she had an ante-natal appointment at the army hospital inside the complex, unnamed officials told the Associated Press news agency.

Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka has taken a hard line against the Tigers
A Sri Lankan military spokesman who spoke to the BBC said the attacker blew herself up as Lt Gen Fonseka was leaving his office “just in front of the army hospital”.

Twenty-seven people were wounded in the attack, the army said.

It is not clear if the bomber was included among the eight people said by the military to have been killed in the blast.

The army headquarters are in a heavily guarded compound in central Colombo.

Lt Gen Fonseka is reported to have suffered severe abdominal injuries and was taken to hospital.

A team of 10 surgeons operated on him and he is now said to be in a stable condition.

Lt Gen Fonseka was appointed head of the army shortly after the election of President Mahinda Rajapakse last November and has taken a hard line against the Tamil Tigers.

      HAVE YOUR SAY
No-one here believes it is a suicide attack as the headquarters is heavily-guarded and all are searched even if they are pregnant

The Sri Lankan military says it has begun an aerial assault on rebel positions in north-eastern Sri Lanka, telling the BBC it could not stand by after the attack on its headquarters.

The military said the Tigers had earlier attacked Sri Lankan naval positions in the north-eastern district of Trincomalee.

A Tamil Tiger leader in Trincomalee, Mr Ezhilan, told the BBC that civilians in the area had been fleeing shelling by the army.

July 2001: 18 people killed and planes destroyed in attack on Colombo airport

      In pictures: Sri Lanka blast
Police said the explosion in Colombo bears all the hallmarks of the Tigers.

Tamil Tiger rebels frequently use suicide bombers in their operations – and are thought to have carried out nearly 200 attacks since the first suicide bombing in July 1987, when a bomber in a truck filled with explosives killed 40 soldiers.

The rebels have denied being behind recent attacks.

      Talks on hold

Escalating violence in the north and east of the country has left about 100 people dead in the past three weeks.

The Tigers began their armed campaign for a separate homeland for the island’s Tamil minority in the 1970s.

Efforts are continuing to persuade the rebels to return to peace talks in Switzerland. Last week they pulled out of negotiations, accusing the government of attacks on ethnic Tamil civilians.

The team of Norwegian envoys acting as mediators in the conflict has condemned the latest bombing, but said it was not drawing “any immediate conclusions about the possible perpetrators”.

      Peace Lover,

Maybe it is a wise move but what are the EU countries doing?? Below is what I found on Sunday. Of course it might be just disinformation or the intelligence officers have not had time to pass the information to the French authorities.

“Samraj currently manages some 200 service stations worldwide that are owned by the LTTE as well as a number of supermarkets in Thailand and England in addition to a stainless steel manufacturing plant in the Ivory Coast. His recent activities have been traced to funding youth events and demonstrations in Jaffna.”

      http://www.sundayobserver.lk/2015/03/29/sec03.asp

The LTTE Sea Tiger suspect Bhageerathy Murugesu alias Mila, 42, was apprehended by Terrorism Investigation Department officers at the BIA on March 2, while she was about to catch a flight to return to France. Her daughter, Phagalvi was with her at the time and during the ten days of interrogation by the TID officers, Phagalvi was allowed to be with her mother.
      Consular assistance

The French Embassy provided consular assistance to her since the child is a French national by her birthright. Senior Counsel Thavarasha said French Embassy officials have fielded concern about her education during the extent of the hearing since the child is conversant only in French.

Bhageerathy has said she is unable to find accommodation in Colombo, where French medium schools are found.

Bhageerathy who was granted conditional bail by the Colombo Additional Magistrate Aruni Artigala recently, claimed she was no longer married to her husband, a member of the top-rung leadership of the LTTE’s international financial wing, known by the nom-de-guerre Samraj.

The duo had married in 2005 with the backing of the LTTE and proceeded to France to function as LTTE international wing operatives, the Terrorism Investigation Department offices informed Court when the case was taken up on March 13.
      Divorce claim

It was not clear if her divorce claim was corroborated by documentary proof. The lawyer looking into her interests, Senior Counsel K.V.Thavarasha said the Attorney General’s Department consented to her release on conditional bail.

Bhageerathy’s husband or ex-husband Sivasubramaniam Jayaganesh as she claims was a top LTTE financier who is wanted by Sri Lanka.

As per the three conditions of Bhageerathy’s bail, she is required to report to a police station every fortnight between 9 am to 12 noon, her passport was impounded and she is not allowed to leave the country until the case is over.

She was imposed a surety bail of Rs.200,000 which was paid by her brother.

The woman was arrested by the police at the BIA on March 2 under the Terrorism Prevention Act of 1979.
      Residing

She had been residing in France since 2005 and the purpose of her visit to Sri Lanka beginning from February 9 with her eight- year- old daughter, was to see her mother who is a cancer patient and is in Kilinochchi, Thavarasha said.

He said sleuths have questioned her in Kilinochchi at her mother’s residence, days prior to her departure, but no attempt was made to arrest her then.

According to the B report submitted by the TID, the suspect woman had joined the LTTE in 1991 and received weapons training.

She had worked as a communications officer for four years before her elevation to the naval wing of the Tigers in 1996.

When she married Samraj and migrated to France in 2005, with the blessings of their superiors in the LTTE to take over a section of its international operations, she was serving as a leader of the sea tiger women’s wing.

Samraj currently manages some 200 service stations worldwide that are owned by the LTTE as well as a number of supermarkets in Thailand and England in addition to a stainless steel manufacturing plant in the Ivory Coast, the investigation officers said. An intelligence source said, the objective of Samraj’s dispatch to France was to build up an arms procurement network for the LTTE.

He was a close aide of Castro. “The man was sent off and expected to report to Castro, as Castro did not trust KP in handling the finances alone.”

Samraj had allegedly worked with Nediyavan who managed LTTE overseas branches with diaspora Tamils.

While Nediyavan based in Oslo, raised funds all over the world by numerous unscrupulous means, Samraj had spent money buying weapons.

He worked with international arms dealers and purchased arms to be sent to Sri Lanka. His tasks included investing money overseas in safe places to generate more funds.

After the LTTE’s defeat, the finances controlled by Samraj remained with him, KP was not allowed access to them.
      Revive

Subsequently his role swapped and he began working with Nediyawan to revive the LTTE.

His recent activities have been traced to funding youth events and demonstrations in Jaffna.

According to a 2013 report sourced to the Defence Ministry Samraj is part of the Combatants and Criminal faction of the LTTE’s international wing which is responsible for fundraising for the outfit via criminal and illegal activities such as money laundering, arms and drug dealing and human smuggling.

The activities of this group have begun in early 2010s. His team members are Vinayagam, a senior intelligence cadre who managed to escape during the last stages of the military operations which wiped out LTTE in Sri Lanka, as well as Achchudan and Shankar.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled on May 19.

Ban on LTTE extended for five years
      Updated: May 15, 2014 20:27 IST
      DEVESH K. PANDEY
      )
The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday issued a fresh notification extending ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in India for five years.

“The Government of India, under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, has proscribed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as an ‘Unlawful Association’. The declaration of LTTE as an ‘Unlawful Association’ has been extended for a further period of five years with effect from May 14, 2014,” said an MHA notification made public on Thursday.

LTTE was banned in India after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. The ban on the outfit was extended the last time in May 2012. The gazette notification then noted that LTTE was an association based in Sri Lanka, but having its supporters, sympathizers and agents in India; and that its objective for a separate homeland (Tamil Eelam) for all Tamils threatened the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India for the Union and thus, fell within the ambit of an unlawful activity.

“The LTTE, even after its military defeat in May 2009 in Sri Lanka, has not abandoned the concept of ‘Eelam’ and has been clandestinely working towards the ‘Eelam’ cause by undertaking fund raising and propaganda activities in Europe. The remnant LTTE leaders or cadres have also initiated efforts to regroup the scattered activists and resurrect the outfit locally and internationally,” read the 2012 notification, adding that the Tamil chauvinist groups and pro-LTTE groups continued to foster a separatist tendency amongst the masses and enhance the support base for LTTE in India and particularly in Tamil Nadu.

The notification also mentioned that the Diaspora continued to spread through articles in the Internet portals, anti-India feeling amongst the Sri Lankan Tamils by holding the top Indian political leaders and bureaucrats responsible for the defeat of the LTTE. “Such propaganda through Internet, which remains continued, is likely to impact VVIP security adversely in India,” it said.

The MHA justified the extension of ban in 2012 stating that the Central Government had “information that the activities of the LTTE remnant cadres, dropouts, sympathisers, supporters who have been traced out recently in the State of Tamil Nadu suggest that the cadres sent to Tamil Nadu would ultimately be utilised by the LTTE for unlawful activities”.

It is a big stupidity to waste srilankan officers time and tax payers money to persuade EU to ban a non existing group LTTE. Srilankan government can fool Singhalese by banning LTTE but actually no diaspora Tamil will be affected. If srilankan government have at least a bit brain, they will not waste time on this issue. All the diaspora spending time under the name of non existing LTTE which EU knows are purely for publicity and pass time – this jokers in the srilankan government are fooling singhala modias – when they visit Europ they move friendly with diaspora past timers who have money but retired and looking for pass time. In reality , thee will not be another freedom fighter movement in the near future and if there is one it will not be called LTTE – 3rd world idiots are exhibiting them as jokers in fron of westerners – bloody sham to call my self srilankan. Please grow up.

Just like postponing issuance of the UN report on genocide by several months, banning of LTTE by the EU will be for few months only, more precisely until the parliamentary elections are over and done with. Only then the true colours of RW-CBK-MS sinful alliance, which has surrendered Sri Lanka’s sovereignty to the West and LTTE proxies will come to light. Much too late for the foolish voters among us.

Not a single day passes without this novice, wet behind the years Ajith Perera issuing a press communique. I wonder whether he has time to do anything but pose for photos and give statements that are untrue. Ranil as leader of opposition in November 2014 would gave had no say and little clout to influence the EU in this matter. If at all it would have been GL Perirs in his capacity as foreign minister. It will be recalled that the time the ban was lifted, GLP went on record stating the EU did not seek the govt of SL’s input.

It is time These new puppies like Ajith, defense deputy wijewardene, wildlife minister ruwen Senanayake et al grow up, show maturity and do something substantial more than playing to the gallery and taking credit for things that they were not involved with.

Has a single day passed without Ajith issuing a statement?

papa the could never influence that from his Oxford beginnings.

The UNHCR vote was run by Cambridge club of Indians (outside of India because of shill within) and they stayed away from Commonwealth but not Singapore.
RAW is not Oxford but Cambridge dominated when dealing with deccan matters.

  • 3
    1

What is Ajith the Great trying to say?

    (1) Had the lifting of the ban continued, frozen wealth and assets would be invested and deployed to revive LTTE.

    (2) Fresh ban imposed by the EU on LTTE is a blow against attempts made by top leaders of the Rajapakse regime to acquire wealth amassed by LTTE in EU.

I can understand the first sentence. Possibly it may not be the LTTE per-se but the ruthless mafia-so network that taxes the diaspora.

The second sentence requires clarifications. Ajith must explain as to how the Rajapakses (or Jarapasses) can get hold of the LTTE funds had they been unfrozen. If a clear connection can be established then that itself need be investigated and action must be taken against the Jarapasses. Ajith’s revelation only establishes that Jarapasses can still do a lot of unwanted activities even if they are out of power.

KP is believed to have handed over the LTTE funds abroad, to Gotabaya who gave him protection and a job of sorts.

Whilst applauding EU’s decision, I cannot help thinking that EU policy on LTTE & terrorism, and US led UN policy on HR violations are nothing but political tools to force others to do what they want. If the facts leading to these policies are true and unchanged then why should the policy be see-sawing, one day the policy is ON and the next day OFF, ON/OFF, ON/OFF ………. and what about RW, one day he was peddling in the West one set of advice, and the next day another.
