  1. That the regime has not resorted to beating of war drums in preparation for UNHRC this coming Feb/March is indicative they
acknowledge the chandikama of the past in the UN works against them.
If Weerawansa is in record of calling the visiting trio of Washington aenior officials as “spies” the US is unlikely to take this lightly.
India is the only hope of mitigation for the Rajapakses and this
quid pro quo speculated here might lighten matters. Navi Pillay too has clout within the UN mechanism and any tasteless attack on her will be sternly met. Minister Samarasinghe’s guarded comments suggest he agrees the utterly inept letter from Khenuka S will do us more harm than good.

If the Geneve meeting goes without censure the regime will claim credit for its diplomacy. If it goes the other way, it will used to tell the nation – using the usual lapdogs Weerawansa, Kudu Mervin,
Ranawake et al in their characteristic truculence the West/the UN are at them because of the Rajapakses defeating the LTTE in 2009 – the staple diet that is normally met without debate by a conditioned populace.

  2. The caravan limps on with its numerous hiccups and presidential flatulence. The impunity of the rulers is matched by the impotence of the opposition and the indifference of the public. Anything goes in this wonder of asia and we expect the world to be the same.

If true, it is outrageous that India is prepared to do a deal over the rights of the Tamils in exchange for Sampur. If that is the case the indian govt can expect some fallout in TN and Tamil diaspora. The indian govt would be foolish to once more trust MR and fall into his trap.

The visit by three UDS indicates a more working type arrangement in preparation for the new geneva resolution. That it is timed well in advance for the March meeting of UNHRC indicates that the resolution will be prepared in joint concurrence with regional partners and will deal with the key issues on the ground.

  3. Dharshika’s revelation of sacrificing Champika Ranawaka in exchange for India’s limited support at the UNHRC, should another resolution from Washington materialize there, and appointing Pavitra Wanniarachchi is very interesting. It appears to be closing a chapter in Mahinda Chintanaya, which was authored by Champika Ranawaka, who is a well read man.

  4. US sponsored and India supported resolutions in Geneva at the UNHRC are useless and counter-productive as far as Sri Lanka is concerned since the Rajapakse regime uses such resolutions to whip up Sinhala Buddhist nationalist sentiment against the minorities by talking about international/diaspora conspiracies as does Wimal Weerawansa the clown.

What the US should do to put pressure on the Rajapakse dictatorship is ask India and the Commonwealth’s Kamalesh Sharma to NOT support the Rajapakse regime and WITHDRAW CHOGM 2013 from the regime.
The Rajapakse regime uses the Commonwealth organization (which is an irrelevant organization that supports third world dictators and the ONLY international organization that has supported the Rajapakse dictatorship repeatedly), to boost its image in Sri Lanka while attacking the international community – the usual double speak. The new name of the Commonwealth of Nations in Lanka today is: “Commonwealth of Clowns” – an organization that has NO legitimacy

  6. “It is only God who knows” said by former Attorney General Mohan Pieris is nothing to do with his own conscious but taught, forced, directed and guided by an ever uneducated, uncultured and an uncivilised Villege thug President Mahinda Rajapakse who manupulate each and everyone under his wings.

The ever corrupt crook swolen with false pride ruined every honesty, pride, goodwill and reputation that Sri Lanka built all these years both locally and among International community, now ruined everything that was left in Sri Lanka.

This Moron does not listen to anybody and in the following Derana interview ex.CJ Sarath N. Silva tells about MR’s character.

    http://www.derana.lk/index.php?route=programs/programs/programdetails&pid=85&vid=5582&page=4

When you see the video interview Sarath Silva says that MARA not only does not listen to anybody’s advise…but only trying to show his false wisdom to force others to say what he wants and implement projects with nobody’s advise or approvel and as a result wasting both Sri Lanka’s good name and Billions of Dollers. Jailing Gen.Fonseka, CJ impeachment, implement LLRC and 13th Amendment, CB hedging deal, hambantota harbor, airport and stadium are few of them.

How MARA appointed fake cabinet ministers yesterday costing additional 400 million rupees a month is another MARA showing his dictator rule to the country, while all the Govt.ministries run at billions of rupees loss every month.

Also MARA suddenly again added export tax of 10 rupees per kilo of tea yesterday, which was increased six months ago. Without even the knowledge of Plantation Minister and the tea exporters association MARA imposed export tax even for the tea containers that were about to ship in the harbour and the exporters are finding difficult to meet this extra cost.

Remember how MARA increased import tax on cars by one million rupees each when they were already in the Harbour for clearance and others for others who have already opened their LC’s.

MARA syatematically destroying private enterpreneurs in Sri Lanka while saying he is helping them. While all the Corporations under Govt. ministers loosing Billions of rupees every month, MR is bankruptcing the little left over private sector businesses to acquire them under MARA dictator control, while everybody looking helpless to carry on their businesses and trying to survive. This is the way crook MARA destroying Middle and upper class business community.

While MARA son Gon hara…ka Namal got the highest marks ever of Sri Lanka history of 98 marks at the Law exam……today two students from…… Rajapakse Central College….. in Presidents home town of Weereketiya topped GCE AL in Both Math and Biology subjects in whole of Sri Lanka.

This is another mystrey in Sri lanka’s history where two students from same school taking the best results in two major categories out of whole Sri Lanka.

Please read the following news web.

    http://www.dailymirror.lk/news/25391-al-resultsstudents-from-rajapaksa-college-topped.html

These are the biggest mysteries happening in the Rajapakse Lunatic Government to show public how his Hambanthota Clan doing business and to employ his villege goons to top Govt. positions in the near future.

I WILL TAKE A CHALLENGE WITH ANYBODY FOR ONE MILLION RUPEES ….TO SHOW THAT THESE TWO RESULTS ARE FAKE AND DOCTORED BY MARA GOONS, IF THEY COULD SHOW THESE TWO STUDENTS TEST PAPERS FOR PUBLIC SCRUTINY.

After installing over six hundred family goons to top Govt. positions, now MARA plans to destroy the rest of the future generations by appointing his Weeraketiya villege goons by doctoring their results and by recruiting them for future Govt. jobs and positions while destroying private sector companies and enterprises to acquire them under his regime.

This is MARA dictator plan to take the whole country under his control.

Therefore all country loving patriots, opposition parties, trade unions, professional bodies and the clergy should help USA to bring a change to our country by toppling MARA Dictator…..

I hope ever invalid UNP opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe will help in this struggle, since he never helped in both instances when Gen Sarath Fonseks was jailed and when CJ Shirani Bandaranayake was impeached.

I hope and pray that Ranil is no more a MARA goon and to help Sri lankans to seek justice through UN.

  7. Jayantha, no offence meant, this is exactly what Ranil is doing without a big ha ho. He is only wise and steady. Unfortunately although the majority wants it done immediately, not allowing MR to be fully exposed will leave room for MR to wriggle out and blame the West. Mark my word MR will be nailed and nailed for good without escape in the not too distant future. Patience is a virtue only the Intelligent has.

      1) Why did RW approve Gen SF as the common candidate?
      2) Why did RW discard Gen SF after his release?
      3) Why there is no visible 2 nd level leadership?
      4) Why descent is not allowed in UNP?
      5) is our parliament supreme ?
      6) will you take Anura B’s decision as final ?
      7) When RW was in hot water , Why did MR suddenly order to carpet the Sirikotha Road ?
      8) Why did MR appoint Shan Wicramasingha’s (TNL) son- in -law as Italy’s SL ambassador ?
      9) Why do all the UNP supporters staying away from grand old party ?
10 ) do you think all of those who disapprove RW , are fools ?

      • Sri Lal,

        1. This whole episode of MR being elected as the President with VP’s help and the defeat of the LTTE itself involves a lot of intrigue which the average will never know possibly. In this drama SF was also an actor. He knows the truth but is unable to come out as he will be ridiculed now. The truth is SF is no angel and his desire to ride the high horse was evident when once MR’s security was changed when MR was overseas. From there on the rift developed and the Rajapaksas were adament to have SF out and SF was no easy person to be moved, after SF had built up popularity of the so called war of defeating the LTTE. When it was known to RW what the Rajapaksas were planning to do at the last Presidential Election, there was no better option than allowing SF to battle it out. Had RW contested instead of SF, RW will be history today.
        2. True SF being the former Army Commander he has a backing with the sympathy of many for the treatment meted to him by MR. But as for someone to Lead a country politically with intelligence is nil. Further SF will be more a liability than an asset to any political party.
        3. I hope you understand for a political party to succeed like any other organisation there has to be discipline and decorum. There has to be one leadership. The need of the hour is not to replace MR with another MR type from the UNP. For that matter although MR is the President, his Cabinet is full of UNP stalwarts who have sold their souls. Under such a scenario it is not RW’s fault when some of the second level leadership remaining in the UNP is rocking the UNP boat to capture power at whose behest all know. If you look at the new entrants to the UNP the majority are educated, disciplined and better behaved compared to the Chandi Mallis and other Gorakayas.
        4. If some one dissent to the accepted norms established in the UNP, that person is free not to join the UNP or join MR as many other UNPers who are there as Ministers in the MR regime.
        5. Parliament is definitely Supreme, provided the right type of members represent same. Unfrotunately not the present Legislature that had willfully committed blunder reference the CJ issue with a heavy price the country has to pay now.
        6. As for AB’s ruling was accepted as prudent under the circumstances prevailing.
        7. RW can not do anything for what MR does to show that he is supporting MR to mislead the masses as you tend to believe. The truth is MR has been hell bent to remove RW from day one but without success, plotting and planning as you see. This is what made RW to extend the Leadership of the UNP for six years, as MR was fiddling when it was up for election every year.
        8. As for the appointment of Asitha Perera it is yet another ruse of MR to to get at RW, but MR will never succeed.
        9. If a truely free and fair election is held the public would know the truth whether the true UNP supporters have left the party or not. So brace for the next election and if proved RW will step down.
        10. Well not all who disapprove RW are not all fools as some are waiting to grab position with the new set up, as they will not stand a chance with RW at the helm. So the yearning for those who want RW out is not because they love the country, but they love themselves more.

        • gamini,

I think Ranil missed the best opportunity to humiliate MR would have been to side with CJ Shirani Bandaranayke and mobilised pary supporters for mass protests.

Also RW would have allowed to the two PSC members to attend appeals court hearing and to give press conferences.,,,,which he stopped them.

Ranil was more into talking Parliament supremecy than to criticise the illegal motion the 117 who signed on a blind papar.

Ranjan Ramanayake described about the suprimecy of parliament in Boston Lanka news interview.

Ranil should know that the best offence is the best defense.

MARA is trapped in the sacking of CJ Shirani Bandaranayake……and this could lead to his down fall very soon.

      • One more question, I would like to add to this list – Gamini may respond to that please.

Ranjan Ramanayake has assured to have declared his assets lately. To many, this is exemplary act – right at this critical state of the most corrupted state we ever experienced since the independence.

Ranjan Ramanayaka resounds it to mawbima:

        [Edited out]

        My question:
But how many of UNP senior politicos incl. RW have done this sofar ? Dont you think if RW could have done that long back now, people would have realized RW is not at all corrupt minded – So, the people will finally become aware, and he could win the lost hearts and minds of people easily.

I also believe that as you added to Srilal^s:

          Quoted from yours:

  8. If Minister Wimal Weerawansa conducts himself in his accustomed asinine fashion it is hardly surprising. But the fact is that as a responsible minister in the administration he will not be able to do so unless the President approves of such conduct or at best in prepared to overlook it. Weerawansa brings the country no credit. His ill considered fast sometime ago (or should one say ‘farce’) may well have made him a hero to his constituency – although one must seriously doubt even that – but most sane people will have seen it as just a cheap and meaningless stunt. Sadly, in another sense, it was more than a stunt. It hurt the international image of the country. And that is a serious matter. These clowns don’t seem to appreciate that.

But while we may dismiss Weerawansa as a clown what are we make of Minister GL Pieris? Here is an apparently intelligent man, a former professor of law, a Rhodes scholar, no less. There he was again railing against the international community – the West especially – of applying double standards in the way it judges Sri Lanka. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander may well be a useful debating point at high school level but it is not an effective way with which to deal with charges made against the country. In making such a plea – that what is sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander – you do not refute the charges against you; by implication you accept the charges but say you are no different from the other person. This surely is not the way to deal with the charges. If the country is being unjustly or unfairly accused of things, we should counter those allegations with compelling and persuasive facts.

A good External Affairs minister does not make public statements attacking international organisations or leaders. He would be judicious in what he says in public and work quietly behind the scenes to obtain the best possible outcome for his country. But our GL it seems shows no such restraint. Does he feel compelled to make brave statements to demonstarate his toughness?

The President is reported to have said at some function recently of how when a problem arose with one of their appointees in some organisation, they managed to ‘shape’ it up. This remark probably provides an insight to the prevailing thinking – never mind, we can somehow ‘shape’ things up. Well, you cannot keep doing that indefinitely.

The writer had referred to the apparent failure of those individuals who “could insert a degree of sanity to the bull-in-a-china-shop approach Sri Lanka has taken in her engagement with the UN and the Western world”, to “ make their case before the powers”. Perhaps they realise that where ignorance is bliss, it is folly to be wise.
