“We are losing credibility on terrorism financing issues with the GSL, which takes our GWOT-related financial concerns very seriously. As we suggested a year ago, there needs to be an interagency USG look into possible LTTE fundraising in the US. A review of TRO/USA records and procedures might be the place to start. We realize there may be USG investigative efforts underway of which Embassy Colombo is not aware. If that is the case, perhaps the Department could forward a summary of USG efforts to date. Moreover, we would appreciate information on where to send suspected US-hosted Tiger-related website information for further investigation as well.” the US Embassy Colombo informed Washington.
The Colombo Telegraph found the related classified diplomatic cable from WikiLeaks database, which details LTTE fundraising activities. The “Confidential” cable is classified by then ECONCHIEF US Embassy Colombo Dean R. Thompson on December 19, 2005.
The Embassy Colombo wrote “In the wake of reports of increased LTTE fundraising activities in Canada, France, UK and Australia, local papers have been reporting increased law enforcement activity, particularly in Australia, against such fundraising. The fundraising is sometimes via legal entities, such as the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), which has 501(c)(3) status in the US, as well as comparable status in other countries. In the last twelve months, we have received confirmation from the UK that they have withdrawn charity status for the TRO (though it was reconstituted under a different name) and that Australia has actively sought to interdict illegal fundraising activities. The Bank of Tamil Eelam (the LTTE’s banking structure) continues to expand in Tiger held areas and appears to provide an effective mechanism through which the LTTE can operate its financial activities. Moreover, at least one LTTE financial website appears to be based in the US. As Post first proposed a year ago (reftel), it is time for a serious, coordinated interagency investigation of possible LTTE fundraising in the US. We are losing credibility on this issue with the GSL.”

If we had a honest Leader and a Government that serve the public, the LTTE funds would have been used to develop the Country. Unfortunately we had a corrupt Leader surrounded by a set of Jokers, equally corrupt. They robbed the money, any one standing on their way either ended up in Jail or Dead. In 2007 the very first Chinese investment in the US of $100Billion at Morgan and they in turn dumped it with Freddy May and Co. 3 months later it all went bust. As per Chinese law they can take out only 100billion in an year so they are reluctant to invest and are doing so in Germany this year a staggering 1.3 trillion.
This has overall effect on the world economy and the war/peace.

Shrub and bLiar are gone they made several errors by not trying to understand cultures and being cocky(FBI & SY) and neither the US nor UK have been able to have a look at them. Heard the Murdoch Police and defense sec scandals- they are all in it. What Wullanggu says is right. The entire world is run by a Syndicate very powerful and well organised. They are responsible for the Market management of funds and also for election of Govts and Leaders in most countries including ours. Absolutely correct. GoSL’s performance in this regard has been so pathetic, incompetent and just plain stupid, it’s been painful to watch.
In the UK at least, they’re now firmly part of the political map, as they can to deliver bloc votes to whichever political party promises them the most. Fortunately, after VP’s demise, the Brits being even more untrustworthy than Sinhala modayas, are just using their votes without really doing anything concrete. Lots of warm words, gestures of concern but that’s about it.

The wiretaps were challenged almost immediately by lawyers for Rajaratnam and other defendants.
Judge Richard Howell,(he made the initial ruling of 11years) said the government’s application for a wiretap had “omitted and misstated important information regarding the credibility of a key government informant.” The court didn’t immediately rule. Watch the space.
FBI sting operation: The key witness was a woman jailbird for inside trading setup by FBI to work for Raj on sympathy grounds. I’m sure that Basil (Mr 15%) got his share of whatever KP could siphon off from accounts he controlled. But you can be sure that as soon as KP was captured, his buddies in the overseas LTTE would’ve changed bank account password, log-ins etc and moved the cash hoard to other accounts.
At least KP is now doing some good in the North & East with his NERDO project., which is more than can be said for the overseas LTTErs who are now engaged in their own internecine struggle over the remaining LTTE treasure chest.
According to DBS, there are two factions, one led by Nediyavan Donkey Master and the other by Vinayagam Donkey Master.. Matheenthiran, the LTTE chief in France, was killed by one of these factions.

Is any western government monitoring LTTE fund raising activities that have been resumed since of late? LTTE front organisations are now collecting funds in the guise of helping the war affected Tamils in North East Sri Lanka.
As DBS Jeyaraj wrote yesterday in the Daily Mirror the LTTE front organisations in the western countries are now “The LTTE”. They are active again and the LTTE hardcore members who escaped after May 2009 and arrived safely in various western countries have strengthened these organisations. Jeyaraj says two separate groups claim to be the successor to LTTE; one based in Oslo and headed by Nediyavan and the other based in France/Germany headed by Vinayagam. Maveer Day, Pongu Tamil Day and such other LTTE events are back again in western countries. The only difference is that the war is now waged not within Sri Lanka but from abroad. The diaspora Tamils will again fill LTTE coffers. And Rajapakse government by its actions and inactions is only helping the “The LTTE” now based in Oslo and France/Germany.
