A Presidential Aspirant – The ‘VIP’, Whose Bodyguards Attacked A Van – Colombo Crimes Division Initiates Probe

A video of a group of ‘VIP bodyguards’ attacking a driver went viral on social media a few days back. It has now been revealed that among the two ‘VIPs’ involved in the incident is a 2020 Presidential aspirant named Dinesh Nuwan Amaratunga. The other individual is identified as Sampath Bandara Amaratuga.

The incident occurred on July 16, in Kalagedihena along the Colombo-Kandy route. CCTV footage showed several individuals dressed as bodyguards springing into action, jumping out of a white defender and prado, to attack a van behind them and the driver inside it. It appears they were irked about not being allowed to overtake the van.

The footage revealed the vehicle registration numbers; the white prado registered under WP CAG 0550 and the white defender registered under WP CAD 8850. The owner of the white Prado is registered as Dinesh Nuwan Amaratunga from Ingiriya.

Dinesh’s social media profiles reveal he is a 2020 Presidential aspirant and is a jack-of-all-trades. He also seems to be a prolific media personality – hosting a program named Classroom teaching mathematics to children every Tuesday morning. His social media use also reveals he is a racist.

Acting IGP today ordered the Colombo Crimes Division to initiate a special probe into the attack launched by the maybe-President’s guards.

Police Spokesman at a media briefing this evening said a special Police team visited Ingiriya to arrest the individuals but they had already fled their homes.

Another highly educated (self acclaimed?) engineer, mathematician, etc etc but actually a yob at heart. Either his education is bogus or a disgrace to his education. It seems politics in SL brings out the best in yobs & thugs.

rbh, Sorry but your comment is so very funny, it made me chuckle. True, ‘He don’t have patients’ but that is because he is not a doctor, and sure, you don’t need ‘patients to run about in the road’. I believe you mean ‘patience’ and not ‘patient’. Another cracker is, the ‘run about in the road.’ The only thing anyone can do on a road is to drive on it, not run about in it. You don’t need patients to be a President to run Sri Lanka, but if it is to run Lanka Hospital, then yes, you are spot on. I don’t know how anyone can ‘run Sri Lanka through the world.’ Did you mean ‘represent Sri Lanka in world forums?’ But that is a strange way to say it. I mean I could go on and on. But to keep it real and in perspective, the English language is so demanding and precise, that if you slip or skid in using it, you are guilty of murdering the Queen, and that too, just literally. So never give up, keep trying.

Fully agree Themis. Dont be deterred by the response you have received.

To be honest, if it was not a joke then it is a regrettable post by rbh which clearly has escaped whetting by CT before publishing. That is even more regrettable for it contributes unn
ecessarily to the downward slide of CT’s own image.

        Themis,

In these tense and stressful times we need a bit of humor.

When you listen to Gnanasara or Rathana – you get the shivers!
So rbh is a welcome change – who is engaged in homicide in his own way – but that is an harmless assassination of Queens English! I am willing to live with it.

I missed though what he meant by “he has lost one of the treasure for president”.
I am sure there is a hidden gem in that statement as well.
If someone can decipher it – please ping me.

      rbh,

      Funny ! Funny ! Very funny !

You are either a “versatile poet” or a dumb ass. English is a funny language, it has many words that sound alike, spelled differently with contrasting meanings.

What you have done is to murder the Queen, that is if you know what I mean?

      rbh,

Irrespective of the way you have expressed yourself …….. I get what you have said about people “needing” to have patience if they aspire to high office ……. and that’s very important.

In spite of all our pretensions, English is an alien language to us …….. and one need not have a prefect command of it to express oneself in a Lankan forum ……

Don’t be discouraged; go on contributing ………… rest assured my English is not up to scratch either …….. I learned English from comic-books (not kidding) and picked up a few cuss words from language-perfect Native Veddah ……. and I’m in business …….. anyone can do it …

I see a fellow struggler lost among Lankan titans of the English language ……. so a helping-hand

How is it that PSD or MSD security officers come to escort persons who are not entitled to either?
Are the “Kapati Suits ” worn by ordinary citizen’s bodyguards too?
The claim that they are persons disguised as such, is a feeble and implausible excuse.

It is funny . In Lanka every mug shot of a leader is taken in Law Library (sort of), surrounded by loads of books, regardless wearing suits but behaving , like street thugs. One more leader for mother Lanka. Jeyawewa. This guy is already a VVIP. (just like the brats of our leaders)

Greedy social climbers like Dinesh Nuwan Amaratunga put a lot of effort into scripting their profiles by manipulating the social media. But the whole thing will come crashing down unravelling who they really are when an unscripted incident goes viral.

The driver of the van does not know the Lankan Road Code. Though not written in the Code, everyone knows that ‘Important Looking Vehicle Entourage’ have the right of way. Always the way out: ‘If in doubt, give way’.
The new IGP is doing what he must i.e. Order a high level probe. He is waiting to be told what to do next.
    Who is the ‘Sir’?
Not anyone in GoSL. It is the one to whom the Lankan Armed Services are loyal.
    .
But…..but….but. Gnanasara Thera has outwitted the bloody lot!

These are the politicians and wannabees who want to rule the country. Why should we have VIP vehicles and such permits. If the public appointed politicians cannot act like public whats the point in having them governing us? Its time to cancel all security persons support to politicians and VIPs. Let them face the public the same way we all face each other.

What can the guy or their boss do if his body guards went out of control, especially when the guy is not around them? On the other side, usually the Sri Lankan drivers are rude on roads (except most of the “car” drivers who seem to be decent among other vehicle drivers). So this van driver might have acted rude, and the body-guards were extra rude because they were thinking they work for future president – either way, it is a typical Sri Lankan attitude against a typical Sri Lankan attitude.

Mother Lanka is never short of such goons. There was another Sir Goon who played out to the tune of a billions from innocent people and was only released recently from prison. This guy, a maths Sir, going about with body guards in defender vehicles. There is radically something wrong in this country. Article says he is publicity seeking moron like that balu dosthara Jayasumana and also seems a racist. Obviously for these buggers to become popular and to hoodwink the gullible masses they have to be utterly racists. That is the way to progress in Dukka Deepa. If you are fair and honest, no chance at all. Just see how Weeramonkey Beraya, Gamon-Pulle, Gnanasara, survive, simply on naked, rabid racism. That is the only way to climb up the ladder. So this gang sir, is a potential presidential candidate? I am sure he ought to be a Buddist too, because Lord Buddha when attained Nirvana at Budh Gaya, he also said that only a “Sinhala Buddhist” can become the leader of Dhamma Deepa. So Maths Sir, you are going along the right path to eternal bliss.

Some say educated person should be the president and says no to those who did not pass at least ol.
We need an intelligent Practical person with or without education not educated arrogant mental cases of this nature.
I think considering the number of jokers trying to become next president, it would be safe to pick someone from mainstream politics that has worked and proved they are cable of running a country. If someone is going to contest, should defenitly look at what they have achieved as minister or secatery.

Body guard means not four trying to assault one on the road but one handles
many anywhere ! The incident is a clean showpiece of Monkeys off the tree
and running amok on the street . Why monkeys off the tree ? The rogues are
said to be the men of a tutor ! On the path of rogue politicians ! This is just
another display of what people want to do with money in the country , to
show who they are ! The victims don’t have to be Muslims or Tamils and
there is a lesson for Muslims here to understand the life in the country ,
sorry sorry , in the paradise .

Why is the journalists stooping down to low levels to call these goons as VIP’s. Is it because this stupid pig headed guy declared himself as a Presidential aspirant. Journalists can do a better job to the community by investigating these self acclaimed VIP’s in the country and inform the people if these goons are employing thugs as bodyguards and going around with defenders. Time to stop the defender mania of all politicians .

Nosey, I dont want to disappoint you man. But why dont to worry about more mundane issues? What is there to worry about Buddhism. That is what you guys have ruined whole sale in the name of “Sinhala Buddhism”.A nosey guy like you yet unable to find out who ruined Buddhsim? Do you really think that non-buddhists ruined buddhism in SL? If you cant understand this simple truth then no point my wasting time with you Nosey. In SL, you guys protect Buddhism alright but sadly dont practice, I mean a significant number. Why your heroes run to Indian Hindu kovils to worship if they have any faith in Buddha? Why your Monks go to hindu kovils and crack coconuts and perform pooja? Why you guys yet, despite your belief in hindu deiyos, yet destroy hindu kovils and build pansala over it? Dont you Nosey think that this buddhism of yours is just politics and nothing to do with religion or Buddha. why you guys are scared of other religions if you understand the real concept of Buddhsim? Nosey, wake up man.

      Nathan (?)
If the majority people of this country were fearful of other religions, we would have gone the way of Indonesia , Malaysia, Maldives etc . It is because of the broad mindedness and tolerance of the very people you denigrate at every opportunity that there has been religious harmony in SL for centuries. There is a happy co existence among Buddhists , Hindus and Christians who sometimes find solace in one another’s places of worship . Your incessant comments vilifying Buddhists is a reflection on your upbringing or the lack of it .

Julampitye Amare! Even using a nom de plume like Julampitiye Amare cannot be accepted with the ideas you appear to express. This type of things came to the arena with Mahinda Rajapaksa. This could be eliminated only by getting Aiyo Sirisena to get the rope that he intends using on Kuddas on Mahinda Mama..

    Dear rbh!.

Don’t worry too much about the criticism you received. Don’t try to justify your mistake. However, don’t be shy to put your comments across. English is not our native language. Your mother tongue may either be Tamil or Sinhala , but your level of English is adequately enough (like mine) to convey the message. You did it. Proud to be yourself.

Nosey, thanks for your opinion but that does not mean you are right. Finding solace in one another is one thing and trying to destroy one another’s faith, culture and traditions is another thing. How can Buddhsim be against hinduism in Lanka because it is even today a blend of Buddhsim and Hinduism and not pure Buddhsim as preached by Buddha. Can you quote a single instance where Hindus have ever destroyed a buddhist or Muslim places of worship. But it is always by Buddhists and Muslims. “Ganey deiyo nanda giya” is a famous saying when sinhala thugs threw the Ganesha deity into a tank in 1977. Do you know what is hapening in Kanniya and Neeraviyadi in Mullaithivu district? If not first read about it and then you will know who is tolerant and who is not. Nosey you are trying to pretend as a fair minded person but it is all a pretension. Just go to Dondara and see what had happened to ancient Shiva temple there that existed even before Buddha. My “incessant comments”, as I have assured you already is towards the concept of “Sinhala Buddhists” that is an invention by racists to undermine other citizen of Lanka under the cover of Buddhism. Not only that there is a vicious attempt at encroaching into other’s faiths forcibly using political and military power. So Nosey your bogus assurance of co-existence is mere eye wash like the government’s reconciliation. can any of you guys strop the racists and rabid Buddhist clergy from their utmost, unholy, unbuddhist hatred towards other community and how they get away using their robes and Sinhala Buddhist card. Come on Nosey, do you really believe that there is peaceful co-existence? Do you really mean broad minded, may be it was there earlier but not today and get that clear my dear Nosy friend.
