….disbursements of weapons ( & its use outside the camps during boring peacetime) …..isn’t it not only making a comeback of the ‘Cowboy’ culture in the ‘Land like no other’
but meant to keep the population growth in check ?…..

This incident should not reflect on the whole Sri Lankan army, but on an individual per se. These types of violence, (individuals who have lost themselves, to a point of no return), happen in all levels of society, including almost all armed services of the world, mainly due to stress levels. Jilted lovers, depression, psychotic (inner voices keep egging them), impulsiveness (often related to drugs), philosophical desire (usually due to terminal illness), are just some of the reasons for this abnormal uncontrolled behaviour. The wounds such behavior leaves in the lives of those left behind by it, are often deep and long lasting.

After the brutal violence since 1971, there was a Gun culture during the entire period.
So, people should expect mos of the things happening.
IT takes a few decades to settle it, probably never as the country changes.
