By Vishwamithra –
“Consciousness is only possible through change; change is only possible through movement.” ~ Aldous Huxley
No Sri Lankan political leader has done what Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power (NPP), has accomplished in the past few months. Having undertaken an international tour of speechmaking, he entered an enclave in which only the daring and creative dwell. There’s no doubt that in Sri Lanka today AKD is considered the best Sinhala speaker. Within or outside the walls of the Parliamentary Chambers, he has no match. When he takes the floor in Parliament, other than an insipid few who resort to usual heckling and catcalling, those who matter and are serious in politics and governance pay attention. For apart from AKD’s proficiency in the vernacular, contextualizing and relating the core of a somber issue and or argument, remains his forte. A very few have had that rare quality of an able and excellent orator.
AKD built his reputation as a remarkable orator over the last two decades with his own inherent ability to be always empathetic and lucid at the same time. Now he has chosen to use (or abuse) that capability and skill in the international arena amongst the Diaspora. A crusade, he has undertaken and with what objectives in mind, one does not know. Yet one could assume that it is to raise funds for the cause of the National People’s Power, the political Party AKD leads. But lucrative fundraising would not result from a ‘worldwind’ tour with such as one undertaken by AKD. It’s not going to happen.
To fight an election campaign, especially in the corrupting circumstances prevailing in Sri Lanka, one needs money, a lot of it. Petrol and diesel requirements for transport coupled with advertising, specifically on television and printing alone would consume more than eighty percent (80%) of an election budget. A campaign strapped by dearth of hard cash resulting in measly spending would not succeed and if it does, would be a miracle. AKD is not yet in that sublime category of ‘miracle-maker’.
If the NPP and its leader set out to raise money on this tour with that as a sole or one of the main objectives and are not successful in securing a substantial amounts of funds needed for their future campaigns, can we still call this venture a failure? The answer is Yes and NO. It would be a failure if they did not raise money at least to finance the tour expenses, including airline tickets, hotel expenses etc. If on the other hand, despite failure to raise substantial funds, should AKD manage to inspire the Diaspora and galvanize a movement back in Sri Lanka aided and abetted by a motivated segment of the Diaspora, then it would definitely be at least a partial success.
The feedback from Los Angeles, the first stop of AKD’s tour is hugely positive. There may not have been the so-called elite class of the Sri Lankan diaspora in attendance, yet the organization and management of the event, barring a very few shortcomings, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka, exposed the class difference between this so-called elite and the commoners in Southern California. It had been a microcosm of the despicable local lifecycle that is being played out over and over. Whether AKD was advised accordingly and if he was, whether he attuned himself accordingly, one does not know. But the presentation he had made and the response from the audience and the ripples it created in Sri Lanka, especially amongst AKD’s political peers, cannot be ignored. Arguments about AKD deliberately flirting with the Mecca of Capitalism while pontificating socialistic economic policies is an anachronistic argument which would not have any life on its own. NPP and its leadership have come a long way from Rohana Wijeweera’s parochial philosophy and his JVP. In fact AKD being able to accommodate some aspects of American system’s policies and principles does, in fact, speaks volumes for their development as a political entity with an open mindset to coexist with the rest of the world. Those who find fault with such an approach are indeed lacking sociopolitical insight and fundamental human empathy.
Aside from the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, USA and Canada are the countries that have a sizeable number of Sri Lankan migrants. Some of those members of this collective diaspora may have voting power in Sri Lanka. AKD and NPP are not canvassing their votes. It would be absurd to incur such large sums of money just to canvas a few thousand votes. However, the very optics of such a tour does matter. AKD’s impact on the current political situation and his attempts to shape and define the core of the political discourse in Sri Lanka will be felt and those who get buried by that impact are the ones who should be worried. If any other political leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sajith Premadasa or any member of the Rajapaksa family engaged in a similar tour, they would have been the recipients of jeers and catcalls. The pressures applied by the strategic actions and equally tactical rhetoric by AKD and the NPP may be too heavy a weight for them to carry.
The cumulative effect of seventy five years of wastage, inefficiencies, incompetence and blatant corruption amongst our past and present politicians is being exposed; Aragalaya-22 saw to it that a complete change from that rotten status quo is an absolute must. A new political system and a governance method need to be crafted and put into an actionable philosophy. A system that produced, one election cycle after another, men and women of corrupt minds and corrupting modus operandi cannot be trusted any longer; weight of sustenance and perpetuation of such a nauseatingly stinking methodology of a political operation may be borne by our people but lifespan of that weight-carrying will end with the next election, be it Presidential or Parliamentary. A system that has to grow from bottom up instead of top downwards needs to be introduced albeit its delay in coming to fruition.
Whether Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his comrades-in-arms succeed in the next election is a totally different proposition. A serious yet non-violent attempt at the change may be overdue. Farmers in the dry zone, boutique owners at every culvert junction in the rural hinterland and laborer in the big cities or middleclass junior executive in the private sector or every school teacher and hospital nurse, men and women who undergo most severe hardships in the Middle-East to send whatever they earn to feed a family back home in all parts of the country may have been dreaming of that day to dawn. Not because they are angry or feeling vengeful about the politicians who have successively deceived them over the last seven to eight decades, but solely because they are motivated to bring forth a meaningful better tomorrow for their children and grandchildren.
AKD and his cohorts may not have been tested and tried early; they may have evaded that unholy landmark that too is due to lack of votes they had received in the past elections. But declaration of bankruptcy and openly practiced corrupt deals led the country to fall from international grace; it opened many a blind eye; not only the current and immediate-past leaders, the whole set of leaders since Independence came into question. Their plusses and minuses were dissected and analyzed and what emerged was not agreeable to the present generation.
The gulf between the haves and have-nots, between the privileged and underprivileged and between the elites and the commoners kept growing. Social media exposed the lifestyle differences; it uncovered the social demeanors of the so-called top-notch socialites in compromising postures. Social media today has become a thorn for those who have more to hide than be authentic and open. As much as the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Rohana Wijeweera are outdated, the hurling of stones of envy-ridden slanders at the NPP too has become things more related to the past than the present and time yet to come. The progression of a people’s movement can be halted for a while but it cannot be permanently stopped; its relentless movement towards its chosen goals may be slowed down, its eventual climax cannot be shunned.
Realization on the part of the greater majority of the people for whose cause a movement has been born is fast becoming a reality. That reality must be pursued at all costs. The responsibility and the burden placed on a political group such as National People’s Power could be unbearably heavy; the very weight of such a burden could breakdown an ordinary man or woman. But leaders of people’s movements are no ordinary men and women. When the landscape becomes curvy and dangerous even to behold, when the cries and tears have run their terminal course, when lips are parched and cheeks are wrinkled, real leaders choose to tread along irrespective of what awaits them at the next bend or next climb. The journey becomes more significant and more defining, not only of the movement but also of the journeymen.
AKD and his determined bedfellows deserve every ounce of support we can offer them. For they are the only ones who have not been tarred by the same brush.

The tone and manner of the Vishwamithra rhetoric puts him on par with a fanatical supporter of AKD. AKD is JVP first; NPP next.

Vishwamithra seems to have forgotten AKD’s involvement as a youth in the ’88 ’89 debacle of Violence. He also conveniently forgets that AKD led a main role in ’94 to elect Chandrika as President and was in her Cabinet and their 1000 at first and later increased to 10,000 Tank restoration programme just to keep the rank and file of the JVP employed to earn their living. Then Viswamithra also forget that AKD was greatly instrumental in electing Mahinda as President, even after Mahinda got exposed embezzling Tsunami Funds. AKD cannot escape blame for the excesses committed by both Chandrika and Mahinda and setting the stage for the JVP to turn up as the Saviours now, to hoodwink the masses.

AKD was perhaps a very young man at the time not a policy maker at that stage.
The role played by him since Somawansa’s departure is serious business for which he is more answerable.

Sinhala_Man / November 10, 2023
Dear Gamini,
.
Much of what you have said is untrue.
.
AKD was NOT guilty of ” involvement as a youth in the ’88 ’89 debacle of Violence.”
.
Please let’s get our facts right. In places what you say exaggerates the culpability of certain compromises that he may have made in day to day politics.
.
Politics is the art of the possible; I don’t think that he’s “hoodwink(ing) the masses”.
.
Please don’t expect easy solutions.
.
Why don’t you turn to Nagananda Kodituwakku? He’s as honest as AKD, but he’s stubborn, and – and, well, – unintelligent.
.
It is almost probable that AKD will be our next National Leader, and within a year. Even if the 68-year-old vegan, Nagananda, doubles his age he will not be elected to any position. That’s a pity, because he will be an honest and fearless Minister of Justice, if only he were to throw in his lot with the NPP.
/
Douglas / November 11, 2023
Dear S-M: Nagananda to be the Minister of Justice? My foot. Listen to him in videos on YouTube. He is a man with an unquenching thirst for executing his “EGO” and putting on a show of “I am the man. No one can play with this Nagananda”. He also time and again said: ” I will make all the present Judges resign and re-appoint who are suitable”. “SUITABLE” to whom? Who will appoint the Judges? Are the people going to appoint them as he says “Janathawage Paramadhipathya”? This man is a “DANGER” to a civic society. He needs to be rehabilitated to teach him how to present himself to the public. Please don’t fall for these types of quackery.

“It is almost probable that AKD will be our next National Leader, and within a year.”
–
It is too early to make such predictions. Undoubtedly, it will be the strongest opposition..
Both the ruling party and the opposition are very important in a democracy.
–
Only then will they be able to pass the new laws and the amendments to the prevailing ones in the parliament.
.
Most recently, I had to clolsely compare A HUGE PORTION of comments added to Sinhala-YouTube-videos by commenters representing a cross-section of society. It became more clear to me that whopple of Rajapakse ghosts still dominate their minds.
–
It is my hope that learned professionals will break the long silence soon and come forward because the only way is to educate the public as much as they can. People in our country are unique and their thinking style is not broad enough. However, the AWARENESS-workshops can break the ice, which will pave the way for real change through a new kind of politics from the end of next year.

87-89 violence cannot be discussed without 83., when old JR ,Paul Perera, Cyril Mathew, RW, JSS union, unleashed violence on Colombo Tamils. JR’s totally immoral referendum was just before that.
When the 1983 violence went out of control they blamed the JVP, LSSP, Vasu,CP etc and proscribed them ! That is how unfair this UNP was then.
The JVP went underground and unleashed a regime of terror.
They had lost respect for the State institutions.
All these things can be traced to the criminally sick mind of JR.Those days JR would crack jokes on the stage and his cheer squad led by RW would laugh in a vulgar way !
They had heard that laughter was healthy and gave them a long life !

AKD’s violence in 1988/89 is not a matter of concern now. But what is his political stand on the Tamil Issue? Has he got the capacity to convince himself and the Sinhala masses that Sinhalese and Tamils have to live together in Sri Lanka as equals? This is only possible under a Federal setup similar to siblings moving out of their parental home and living in separate homes with no love lost. As long as there is no fear of each other the Sinhalese and Tamils can live together happily facing good times and bad times including bankruptcy. Well, our downfall is due to misunderstandings created by politicians. Tamil’s understanding of AKD is he is not capable of bringing the two communities together because his mind is preoccupied with seeking power at any cost. He is silent on colonization, building viharas, and the ‘Malayaha’ Tamils’ future welfare after 200 years. Of course, Thondamans and their clans are partly responsible for their present plight due to their selfishness, openly displayed during the 200-year celebration.

Looking at the current Sri Lankan Politics AKD (NPP) is the only political personality who can address the Sri Lankan expatriate in the first world. They have seen politicians have been interviewed in foreign countries with facts and it is difficult to corrupt tainted politicians like Ranil, Mahinda and Maithree to survive on these forums. I mentioned those three names because they can be hero’s in giving talks to Sri Lankan audience with some boisterousness and blowing up there own person.
What AKD has done is he has proven that they are honest and committed to bring the country to correct path without considering the race and religion.
people looking those clips in Sri Lanka is likely to flock around NPP and it can lead to their winning streak.

Raj-UK / November 10, 2023
No doubt AKD is a good orator & is above the usual riffraff that account for the majority of current politicians but he is also a typical politician as he is able to bypass crucial questions about the NPP’s much hyped strategy, yet, his charisma has won him many admirers, just as MR.
This is the digital age with social media & the internet, in fact, many of us have the ‘hybrid’ option of working from home. US born Buddhist monk, Ajhan Sumedho has a worldwide following from Alaska to Australia & is in touch with his followers on the Internet. If the NPP is cash trapped, AKD could have communicated on the internet without his actual presence being required abroad. I watched him speak in Los Angeles but he seem to deflect questions, such as, naming his important cabinet ministers. He mentioned a few names but was not specific about their roles, instead, said that experts from the civil society will also be considered. Maybe he meant not cronies as experts, the usual way of running Ministries, but that does not answer the question. His funding seems to be from recovering looted public funds & is confident that in the absence of corruption, economy will grow automatically. His only assurance is that all NPP members are patriotic service minded people who will work honestly & diligently. Sorry AKD, I need more convincing.

The opposition Labour party in UK has a ‘shadow’ cabinet which holds serving Ministers accountable & if Labour wins the next elections, they are already in gear. In the meantime, voters can ask specific questions from the shadow cabinet. If the NPP is so capable, why not follow the UK system?
A question I would like to ask AKD is why he continues to be the leader of the JVP if the JVP is defunct? Isn’t being the leader of the JVP & the NPP is a conflict of interest as, obviously, each party has its own objectives, if not, why have 2 different names?
/
Douglas / November 9, 2023
Who is “AKD” and what he stands for?
To me, AKD is only a TEAM LEADER who is TASKED to carry out a set of “POLICIES” and “ACTION PLANS” set up by a “TEAM” who promises and pledges to run the Governing functions of the country.
If at any time this “AKD” the people try to magnify as “THE MAN”, that concept must be defeated at any cost. This AKD is in no measure a “MIRACLE” (to be precise in local terminology “Diyasena”) to present a “Panacea” to solve all the economic, political, and social problems of the country. If at any time “NPP” assumes power to run a Government and in such an event “AKD” does not perform in accordance with the policies and plans, I am certain that NPP will not hesitate to KICK him OUT. That “DISCIPLINE” control has been re-iterated by no lesser person than AKD and he knows it well.
So by all means, we must not portray AKD as a “Macho” except that he is a “Leader” to lead and coordinate a TEAM EFFORT. If he FAILS, he should be replaced.
/
Professor ANI Ekanayaka / November 9, 2023
When he goes on these foreign tours does AKD speak in English or Sinhala ? Does he speak English at all ?. Personally I have not heard him say a word in English ! Surely in the modern world, to be at least bilingual and competent in the use of the English language is a criterion of education. To be purely monolingual is indicative of a narrow education and raises questions about fitness to be President in Sri Lanka.
/
Jack / November 10, 2023
This writing is shameful. Ability speak English is useful but not essential. Majority of Sri Lankan’s are not fluent in English,
It may be about 80% or more people who will not understand English.
Person representing them as a president should be more fluent in the language they speak than English.
This is remnant of slavish mind descending after been governed by British empire.

Dear S-M: AKD had meetings in Los Angeles, Texas (Housten), Boston, and New York. There was a “One-to-One” interview in Boston plus the public meeting. All that was according to the schedule arranged by the S/L community.
Raj-UK is lamenting that AKD failed to name the “Cabinet”. What rubbish is that? Is AKD authorized to name a “Cabinet” in a public meeting? That will be a matter for the NPP Executive Committee, after considering the members who have been “Elected” by the people. What if NPP fails to win a majority in Parliament to form a Government? What, if AKD also failed to win an election? Will he be in the “Cabinet”.?Next, he talks of a “Shadow Cabinet”. Can NPP name a “Shadow Cabinet” with only three MPs in Parliament? That is a matter for the main Opposition (SJB) which has the next largest number of MPs next to SLPP. Enough was told at those meetings in the USA in answer to questions from the audience as regards the Economy, Political Culture, and Recovery Attempts.
/
Raj-UK / November 10, 2023
Douglas
I am not ‘lamenting’, just pointing out why I am not impressed with AKD’s oratory because there is not much substance. You seem to have no idea of a shadow cabinet. Mainstream opposition political parties in UK have their own key members shadowing the ministers in power. They have their own strategy & able to answer questions from the public as to how they would govern, with details, such as, sources of funding etc. If able to form a govt,. they are ready to take over immediately unlike a political party waiting to win the election to appoints its ministers & formulating a strategy.
Apart from recovering looted public funds to finance the economy & hoping that by eliminating corruption, the economy will improve, I didn’t get ‘enough’ information about NPP strategy. AKD need not go around the world personally spreading their gospel, the detailed strategy & action plan on the internet would be adequate for a sceptic like me.
/
Douglas / November 11, 2023
Raj-UK: Thanks. One opinion I expressed as regards that “Shadow Cabinet” has been edited out. Here it is:
I said we cannot have “Cut & Paste” systems available in the UK or any other country to S/L. Look at our MPs. Are they capable and ready for such advanced systems? We have MPs who raise their hands (I won’t say here what other things they raise) to any type of Resolution and amendment without even not knowing what those are for. You saw how they voted for amendments such as 18A; 19A;20A; 22A. With such “Low Quality” (education, experience, comprehension, behavior, etc.) you want them to comply with advanced systems available in other developed countries? So let us first CLEAN this mess. I have stated in another comment why NPP has sent AKD to Europe, Australia, and the USA. Pl. read that comment. You will better understand the use and meaning of those foreign visits.
/

A majority of our politicians are dumb & self serving which is why we need to elect capable people with integrity. If the NPP fills that criteria, then they can show the way by shadowing the current ministers & having them accountable, for which, they need not be in the Parliament. As official spokespeople for the party, they can do so with press conferences. As for AKD’s world tour, it is of no significance to me. I touched on the subject as Vishvermitra was implying it may be a fund raising attempt & whether he was able to cover his costs. In this digital age, physical presence is not always necessary .

Raj-UK: You are far away from what is happening in S/L. Did you notice the number of Seminars (not rallies) held by the NPP at District, Electoral, and “Kottasa” (Village) levels? Of course, not much mainstream “Media” gives publicity to these Seminars by the NPP. That may be the reason for missing it.
Now that has become a continuous process irrespective of whether an election is held or not. The people now know what NPP stands for and what can be expected building confidence in its delivery. In practice, NPP has overhauled all the Cooperative societies recently voted to their hands. An outstanding performance of the AI/IT Institute (providing FREE training to 400 students) NPP that has been established in a remote village called Ridimahaliyadda with funds from the MPs’ salaries and foreign donors has brought supportive responses at village levels. Just for your info.

It is said that the Vienna Philharmonic was a [white] men’s club and no women played in it. It cannot happen today and I don’t know when this custom changed. Still, the number of women playing in this concert is far from as many as men. Actually, I can only see one in the first violin section. But what a performance and what an orchestra!”

And the music that they here brilliantly prostitute: I hope that some readers will read up the history of Beethoven’s Eroica.

Prof AE,
Do all successful leaders in EU speak English? Answer is big no 👎 .
Language is not the issue, we should finally have a good leader to this country.
IS NT THAT SO?

AKD recently toured the world for their promotional round robin tour. According to my source, he has reached out to Sri Lankan expatriates in the US and Korea who are seeking real change in their home country, which has been destroyed by the Rajapaksas and their henchmen. The responses that I have been looking for for a long time are coming in the form of feedback.
I still doubt how a new party can do wonders in today’s crisis. The fall of the country takes many forms. So, the newbie NPP is challenging it, it is beyond my hope. However, there are no other options either.
This nation deserves a better government than the youth who dream of a better life.
There are various speculations now about the ICC’s new ban against the Sri Lankan cricket membership. I believe it is due to a script of Rajakases as in the April 2019 Easter Sunday disaster. Rajapkasas are unpredictable and merciless. The average of the country are miles away to realize the truths.

Gota who had no experience of previous parliament or Executive Presidential administration who is not fluent in English ran away to USA and gave away his Sri Lankan citizenship later became the President with the massive support of Sinhalese votes only. It is now strongly believed that he played a major role in executing the Easter bombing. Finally he and his team made the country into bankruptcy. In other words, in our history, this island never reached such a low in terms economy, instability, poverty, peace less, and corruption. So, there is nothing worse can happen giving a chance or an opportunity to AKD or NPP.

‘Surely in the modern world, to be at least bilingual and competent in the use of the English language is a criterion of education. “
What a slavish mentality!

ANI is wrong about it. But it is also true that in multi-ethnic societies, being able to communicate in a link language like English can help a leader attract more support from all communities. Not to fit some Western standard of English, but to be acceptable to the average person in/from Sri Lanka who doesn’t know the Sinhala language.

Then for what the hell were you sent to England? You didn’t know there were two countries, the USSR & Red Army State China? I leave aside Japan, Germany, Chandrika’s France….. Do you deny that you learned better communism in English in England than you could have learned in Russia in Russian or in China in Chinese? Or is it because it was only Badiudeen’s free scholarship?
Why is the defect in you preventing you from open heartfelt, discussion, but only these clownish satirical utterances?

ANI Eknayaka ,
Who invented ‘ KAPUTAS ‘ ? Basil from the U S . Safely more than
80 % of those migrated to English Speaking Countries do not speak
English or at least acceptable standard of English . It is only their
children now speak after attending English schools , the next
generation who will never come to live in Srilanka . As you said ,
English speaking is not a criterion of education , instead it is a
symbol of a class but our 2500 years old INTELLIGENT guys found
all Pants wearers MAHATTAYAS . For them , you speak English and
run a grocery , you are Another’ MUDALALI ‘ . AKD speaks perfect
Sinhala and the question is who can match his Sinhala Proficiency
among today’s leaders ? I have seen only one man excelling in
languages today in parliament and outside , Rasamanikkam . Make
him the next leader of the country.

Anura Kumara D appears to be the most impressive politician at present. But, he has issues. He has no administrative experience to be a head of state and obviously cannot get any unless he becomes part of a government. He has not announced a policy on ethnic and religious issues as he fears a backlash from the Sinhala-Buddhist cliques. It is to his credit that he does not run to the Mahanayakes as other Sinhala moronic politicians do. We do not know how the international community would react to him. We cannot get out of the rut we are in without the support of foreign states. Though it may be that the past misdeeds of the JVP are forgotten, the large numbers that turn out to hear Anura speak are not reflected at the polls. That may be an indication that the admiration for him as a politician does not attach to the party he leads. Yet, it is best to take a punt on him rather than have the tired old corrupt system with half-baked politicians running it. He may well bring welcome changes.

“ AKD and his determined bedfellows deserve every ounce of support we can offer them……….”
Vishwamithra, before we consider supporting them please say what is AKD and his party’s position with regard to the Tamils national question. Will they implement 13th amendment fully or not? Can they stop building more and more Buddhist temples in the areas where there is no Buddhist live ? Will they stop Forest Dept acquiring by force more and more lands owned by Tamils in the North andEast , just like Israel captures and occupies Palestinian’s lands. Do they have the courage to stand up against politicians and Buddhist monks expressing extreme views? Where do they stand on economic reforms ? What is the guarantee that NPP politicians wouldn’t become corrupt ?

I’m a DC resident who attended AKD’s Washington DC event as an observer, not as a diehard supporter. As the article suggested I didn’t see any desperate attempt at fundraising and AKD didn’t ask anybody to personally come and vote for him either. But my understanding was that they had identified the diaspora as a very strong influence group. His was an attempt to win the hearts and minds of the expats who could project a strong influence on their kith and kin in SL. And I believe he was very successful in doing so. I’m not familiar with California but in DC we have a very diverse group of Sri Lankans ranging from hourly wage earners to NASA scientists and the attendance was higher than what we see when a popular group of artists visit the city and it was a proportional representation of all sectors of DC Sri Lankans. And many of them seemed to be impressed with the guy too.

Indunil: Thanks for giving us an EYE WITNESS report on that meeting you attended.
From what I heard (from my contacts in LA & Boston) NPP has an agenda to attract “Foreign Investments” from those S/L expatriates who have the funds and the know-how to bring in capital and expertise to participate in their “Small & Medium” Entrepreneurial projects to be established in Districts outside Colombo (Western Province) so that the economy could be expanded to bring benefits to rural underdeveloped places using the available resources in those areas.
I heard that AKD explained this and also requested the expatriates to consider this proposal. Did you hear that at the meeting you attended? Thank you again.

It was funded by the Maastricht Treaty, allowing for Germany’s economic recovery after World War II. Without such financial support. Rising from the depths of the fallen will not be a reality with Sri Lankans. If such an institution supports a new government representing uncorrupted Sri Lankans with a new vision, Sri Lankans will soon be a developed country. Not unattainable.
–
I like some of AKD’s arguments in meetings in the US that we as a nation should no longer isolate ourselves in order to achieve our economic goals for a prosperous Sri Lanka.
My biggest concern, however, is what guarantee do we have that our brainwashed common folk will irrevocably change their attitudes by then and pick up the pen to answer next year’s ballot papers? If all the good people join hands with the NPP in the next few months, it will no doubt be the future government from the end of next year.

My Dear LM: A little while ago I penned a few comments to Raj-UK informing him what NPP is doing in S/L at the moment. You will be surprised by the way the NPP is managing all the cooperative societies that have been voted into their hands. A good example is the Akuressa Co-op. Another is the AI/IT Institute established in a very poor/remote village called Ridimahaliyadda. This offers FREE learning to 400 children. Well equipped with the latest equipment and managed by University Teachers who work FREE. It has a three-level building put up on land (worth millions) donated by a retired principal. Funds are from the MPs’ salaries and donors from abroad (Australia)
This is what NPP is doing and showing what they would do. For your info.

Dear Douglas,
.
There are two main social groups in the Sri Lankan population whose thoughts and minds are now captured by social media more than mainstream media news.
As we know social media is where marketers promote their “fake news” for their dollar profit (Sepal, Apple Store Navon, Sudathilakasiri and many more you know, to me these men and their jobs are similar to pimps in red light (sex industry) areas of Hamburg, London, Zurich or New york city corners).
In comparison, when I was in Sri Lanka (until late 80ties), people of all walks of life in that country had a smelly but delicate dish called “Jadi Karawala”. The demand for these “stinky by-product” was very high from all various walks of life down there.
–
Likewise, Sri Lanka’s SINHALA kunu harupa slang-laden trash in form of headline news, sells easily in the nation of 22 million. So, the facts get away from the focus, as tsunami hit the physical structures in December 2004.
–
For dessert these vicious news spreaders usually add something through “Sinhala Buddhism and Jata Katha Vyabhara”. Sinhala Buddhism, Astrology, Sorcery and Cricket play a greater role in srilanken day today life. These are highly sensitive fileds for them. The “pinguttaras” who supported Gotabhaya’s election campaign are now doing the same with the ICC cricket ban.

A DOMINANT portion of the island’s population does not use their brains, but their emotions.
–
They don’t use it also in their day today life. These men and women are mostly not illiterate, some of them are university educated and others work in such institutions. However, their psyche is constantly controlled by their emotions based on Jataka Katha myths and mysticism. dont you agree with me ?
–
The other group, though not so much in number or percentage, they can easily understand strategies and political games, but their apathy will sweep them under the carpet. Many of them are educated in various ways and their close relationships are nurtured through contact with their educated children. Much of the JVP-NPP thinking now revolves around those small sections and floating voters.

davidthegood: That “SAITM” is “Black History”. Do I have to explain here how that “Rouge” Dr. Fernando started it with the backing of another “Rouge” Minister Rajitha, in violation of all Rules and Regulations established under the UGC and other Authoritative Limbs pertaining to to Medical Studies? So let us get on with the march towards a winning CHANGE.

There are many a pros and cons when, particularly in politics new thinking and initiatives gain popularity among the long affected people. But there is no doubt that AKD and NPP mean business and they are at it. They will be there on the job at the next elections, be it Presidential or general. As for the issue of the Tamil people continuing to talk of the undefined national question, which is nothing other than a political gimmick of the Tamil politicians, will not take the community anywhere. The NPP has a clear proposal for a new constitution which would solve all the issues of all the communities.
/
Sugandh / November 11, 2023
Apparently AKD and NPP cater to those who dismiss the Tamil People’s national question. Is NPP even remotely interested in Truth, accountability, and reconciliation?
–
A new constitution is dependent on favourable outcome from a referendum. That outcome is not in NPP’s control.
–
NPP maybe form the next government but there’s no guarantee that the electorate will support a new constitution, particularly if NPP plans to put all ethnic and religious groups on equal footing to which AKD is supposedly committed.
–
The SB Nationalists are utterly afraid of the 13A. Isn’t it then a sure bet that the majority electorate will reject the possibility of a new constitution which proffers equal rights to the minorities?

Dear Readers,
.
Estranged Youtuber Sepal has the balls to publicly criticize Sajith over the “ICC ban on Sri Lanka Cricket membership”. , he deliberately avoids criticizing AKD. It is ironic that the arguments exchanged in Parliament yesterday regarding the misdeeds of both Sajith and Anura, Chairman of the Cricket Board, Shammi Silva, and their views were united. How can this happen?
–
-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBTlxzWY6A4
–
The ICC’s point of view was correct because if the court of the country rejects the action taken by the current sports minister against the cricket governing body, it will be considered true. However, the Sri Lankan gallery, total idiots, the dominant section believes that the ICC ban was personally set up by the ICC President. The whole world knows that the ICC is handled by the UK, regardless of the influences heard about Indians. India cannot take decisions unanimously. Despite the revelations, Sri Lankan buddies, AKD, Sajith are delighting their local cricket fans. Why on earth are these people away from FACTs?
