Aluthgama Matter Cannot Rest There

By R. Sampanthan –

R Sampanthan MP

R Sampanthan MP

Mr. Deputy Chairman of Committees, before I conclude, you will permit me, Sir – that is also a matter concerning human rights – to refer to the incidents that occurred in Aluthgama, Beruwala and Dharga Town recently.  Something happened on Thursday. The persons concerned were arrested and they were remanded. With that the matter ended. I have seen the video of a speech made by a Venerable Monk. It was a very vitriolic speech, a very violent speech; a speech urging the people to take to violence, insulting members of a particular community and saying that the police forces and the armed forces of this country are Sinhala. Consequent to that speech where the people were set up, there was a loud applause from the people. There was a procession and when the procession was taking place, shops were attacked, houses were attacked, mosques were attacked, people were attacked and a large number of people were injured; two people have died and immense damage has been caused to Muslim civilians.

Why were the law enforcement authorities quiet? Why were they silent? Why did they not act? After all, you stop processions of workers demanding trade union rights or demanding wages or demanding salaries. You stop university students’ strikes when they protested with regard to their grievances in the universities. Then, why was this procession not stopped? Was it a Government decision that that procession should not be stopped? Was it that the law enforcement authorities slackened in the performance of their duty; did not perform their duty and permitted these people to go on this outrage? I think, Sir, we must have answers to these questions. The Hon. Leader of the Opposition made a statement this afternoon. But, I think this matter cannot rest there. We are very concerned because this surely should not happen to any citizen in this country, irrespective of whether he is a Sinhalese, a Muslim, a Tamil, a Burgher, a Malay or whatever.

Is it that as far as law enforcement is concerned, there is one method of enforcement of the law against certain people in this country and a different method of enforcement of the law against other citizens in this country; that certain people are above the law; that certain people do not have to obey the law; that certain people can disregard the law with impunity in the belief that this Government will protect them?  In my view, the law enforcement authorities would have acted if they had the confidence that this Government will be supportive of the action they take.  If the law enforcement authorities did not take action as required by them under the law, I think it was for the reason that they feared that they might become culpable in the assessment of this Government in regard to their taking such action.

Sir, we need a very clear and definite position from the Government in regard to where this country is going as far as law enforcement is concerned and as far as the protection of the citizens of this country is concerned, irrespective of which ethnicity they belong to.

I thank you.

*The Tamil National Alliance’s leader, R. Sampanthan MP, made the statement above in Parliament on 17th June 2014 concerning violence against Muslims in Aluthgama, Beruwala and Dharga Town.

People who seek destruction and mayhem would rather keep quiet than expose their complicity.

Power hunger will split the nation into bits and pieces.

Why is it that Tamils like Sampanthan, Bishop Rayappu Joseph and Tamil Net have condemned the violence against Muslims in Aluthgama while the Muslim and Sinhalese political leadership in cabinet is mute? Surely, is this a Tamil issue? Shouldn’t the Muslims take the lead in looking after their own security?

        3

Basically, this is a humanitarian issue. What happened to the Tamils yesterday is happening to the Muslims today. That fact is as clear as crystal. Are you blind not to see that?

When most needed Tamil voices were on mute mode. Now is the time to catch up with their moral lapses.

This is not a matter just for Muslims or Sinhalese, a duty to raise their voice whenever and wherever injustice done to fellow human being.

It is perhaps the best time to summon their moral courage and tell the racist where to get off.

You should join Sampanthan, Bishop Rayappu Joseph and Tamil Net in condemning what is happening in this island.

People with conscience speak against evil and injustice. Perks and Power keeps the most leaders ‘MUTE’. This whole messy affair is about ‘have nots’ jealousy against the ‘haves’. These radical Bhikkus believe that destruction brings in prosperity. Who are we to judge their belief system.

The Islamic concept of belief is that no one loses that which s/he earns lawfully. There is a day of compensation / reckoning.

Hakeem and other so called Muslim leaders where are you? why dont you follow Sampanthan and stand up and be counted at the hour of the need? Perhaps you dont want to lose your ministerial luxury cars and life style.

      Rajash,

May be Hakeem and his ilk are rapacious, I do not know. However, during the early 80s, JRJ threatened TULF with riots if they did not toe the line. Amirthalingham was put in a quandary and caved in to save many innocent lives. Similarly, I will not put it past MR; he is far worse than JRJ!

Mr Sambandan asks a rhetorical question “Why were the law enforcement authorities quiet?”

    [Edited out]

We are sad to reveal nevertheless, so far none of the perpetrators of these crimes have been arrested. As of now Gnanasara and his drunken goons are roaming free inciting hatred and unleashing violence. Although the law compels their arrest, ironically it is seven Muslim victims who are now in police custody.

Out of the nine Muslims killed, two were shot to death by BBS goons in Dharga Town on the 15th. There is no investigation how these murderers obtained fire arms. There has been no magisterial enquiry.

It is well known that Medamulana MaRa started the terrorist organizations BBS and Sihala Ravaya. He nurtured and fattened them with the Government’s Secret Security Fund. The Buddhist terrorists (oxymoron? Ha, ha!!) are now wreaking havoc.

Prior to his departure for Bolivia, the Mara instructed his criminal brother Gota to use Gnanasara to create pandemonium among the Muslim community. And while his brother was faithfully carrying out “orders” he babahukumly tweeted from Bolivia “everyone please, exercise restraint”.

Upon returning to the country, the first thing that this “concerned” President did was tour the devasted Aluthgama and Beruwala to inspect and admire the handiwork of his loyal brother. They hugged and embraced each other just like in that salivating photo readers have seen so many times on these pages and puked. Gota says to Mara “Aiye, hereafter no Sinhala Buddhist will ever vote for anyone but you”. Mara says “Sadhu, sadhu, father will be very proud”.

And now the wesigeputha is challenging the people to produce evidence.

Did the Hon Member Mr Sambandan make a speech in Parliament , addressing the speaker, why the Government didn’t take any action when 300 Muslim Worshippers were gunned down when they were on their knees in the Kathankaddy Mosque?.

If he did , can someone please post a copy here….

When LTTE’s government was doing that Sampbanthar was not a member of the LTTE government. So he could not ask about it there.

Now, when the Lanka’s Royal government is doing that, as he is a member of the Royal Government, he is raising the question at the parliament.

As you could see nobody from the BBS’s parliament also asking the same question.

I want ask you a question K.A Sumanasekera. Who is paying for you to write that stupid comments here? Before you come here, did your bosses told you that LTTE was rebel organization? Against whom the Defense department and its’ branch oofice BBS are rebelling? Muslims?

Didn’t Karuna say that Gotabhaya Rajapkse himself handed him that diplomatic passport to go to UK as a government representative?

    Old chap asks:

“Why were the law enforcement authorities quiet? Why were they silent? Why did they not act?”

From his long political career he should have known that the law (?)enforcement authorities were either actively protecting the rioters or they themselves were participating in the riot.

It should not have surprised this politician at all.

SambaDan, the silly [Edited out] should know that Sri lanka is a polarised nation he helped to create. He too was quiet when LTTE went about killing Sinhalas and Muslims indiscriminately. Learn to shut up and put up; things will get better in due course. Until such time, be the spectator you have been all these years. Like that other dude Chelva, SambaDan will achieve nothing for the Tamils.

Hi Lal, why are you shouting at babies. They never ever doing any thing wrong. I mean Tamils and Muslimes some time even cristian.

They are babies. Not doing any thin wrong.

I love this website, they are so brave go against to violent, stupid, toooooooooooooo dangerous and murderous buddhist sinhalese.

Dont you know, LTTE never kill even a mosquito. They are harm less like mad dogs. They were always use sword and knife for the surgical works to cure the people.
They burnt some human made things (some people wrongly say sinhalese and muslims houses) to avoid spreading deceases.

Muslims are not doing any thing wrong. They help us when SLS not working properly by giving halal certificate. They were even introduced a way of killing animal not having pain (see what are the sunnies doing with siat in Irque). So innocents.

They are not cutting trees in wilpaththu and making houses for their followers. They are not misusing sinhalese for their own benefits.

I love this website, it is so kind to all other terrorist. And they are good in producing the TRUTH but not reporting the truth.

I love them so much. Fantastic work.

Hakeem is part and parcel of this attack. Mano Ganesan predicted this three years ago. PM has said that Friday he received information of riots being organized in Badulla for Aluthgama incident and he went and stopped it. Many appear to have tried to stop BBS meeting in Aluthgama with IGP level. Hakeem must have had all information. If he could not have moved IGP, he should have placed some of his SLMC official observes at Aluthgama during the meeting. He should have produced his videos. Now the question is who threw the stones into the marchers? Is that BBS organizers or is it Hakeem’s peoples? Nobody knows. Does Hakeem have answer for that?

He stayed out of parliament not to protest against Aluthgama. There was a resolution going in the parliament to stop OHCHR inquiry. It is about minority rights violation. So Hakeem should have stayed in and voted against it. This dishonest person saw a dilemma here. Voting against is opposing his master. Voting with Royal government at this type of the time is detrimental for election within Muslims voters. So staying out is the best option for him. So Aluthgama was used get out of this problem which was affecting his personal prospects.

When he is not honest in his action, then who is going to boycott the parliament in behalf of Hakeem?

The time has come for TNA,SLMC and JVP to join hands and create a new party and contest all over Sri Lanka. After following Anurakumara Dissanayake’s speeches I am convinced he is not the old JVP member. JVP should shed its old skin and have a new branding so that Tamils, Muslims, Christians, Hindus and peace loving Sinhalese can vote for one party to throw Rjapakse out of the Presidential seat and to kick the butt of the Rajapakse regime parliamentarians and racists out of the parliament.

Its also time for diaspora to support this alliance.

Mr Sambnadan, and his” Cabinet” whose nomination papers had to be signed off by their late Leader Mr Prabakaran has been the chief architect of the current social and political malaise.

Every effort of the Govt to bring all the races together, to live as equals and improve their common well being as a one nation has been not only thwarted , but being twisted and turned into a vicious campaign to destabilize the country and destroy the current peace and freedom.

    The aim is twofold.

First to get what their late Leader wanted. That is eventual Eelaam in Lanka.

Second, to force out the Govt. Put away Rajapaksas for a lengthy period. So that the Elite can keep the UNP in govt without much Opposition.

First aim can be achieved only by implementing the second.

And the second is the first priority of the Western backers of the UNP.

US sponsored Inquisition ,Pillai Police, and anti Muslim agitations are part and parcel of the parcel of the package.

BBS may be brain dead, but they are not stupid to make trouble against the other minorities, because they either know or have been warned that it will be instant invasion.

And there won’t be not only no mercy for them but also there won’t be a Nagadeepa to visit in their free time.

“But then, my Elders tell me there was a Vellala Politician once, who wanted to make slippers from Sinhala Buddhist skins. Not sure whether the current Vellala outfit got anything to do with him. “

My elders told me once there was Govigama man named Suman K.A. made slippers out of the skin of Hindu Brahmin, whom the Govigama tied poured molten tar on him in 1958.

This is for our fellow reader K.A Sumanasekera:
There was another man named Richard Gotabhaya (R.G.) Senanayake(a half baked Buddhist- like all other Lanka political leaders), he was only one ever talked about making slipper out of Human (Tamils) Skin ever in the world. He is such a horrible beast. There is nobody ever did it other than him. Please tell your elders stop hear saying stories. Because history properly written somewhere. As all “False or True” questions will be answered tested at OHCHR inquiry, tell your elders to come to the inquiry with their proof. Otherwise they are fooling themselves, exactly the same way you are doing for to you.. Sorry for them!

Not only a single Muslim Politician has stood up but not even a single response from our Muslim brothers here. Hakeem and the SLMC are the aiders and abetters for the sorry state of affairs in this country.Remember after the Puttalam Mosque incident it was the Federal Party that protested on behalf of the Muslims. SLMC is eying for two more
    deputy Ministers post.
Hakeem and his party supported 18A.Hakeem supports the government in every
Interview.Hakeem supported -Divineguma-Bill,however before the Elections he criticises the government to the hilt and again joins the govt. SLMC leader in the EPC, Mohd.Jameel wants to bring a resolution against the govt. on Aluthgama incidents but his party being a coalition partner in the central govt. is also responsible for such incidents to take place. They are prepared to allow NAJEEB majeed from SLFP to continue as the CM of EPC. One can’t understand these shameful characters.GLP and the rest who hop from party to party are no better. Only TNA seems to be the party with any principles and members with gut to speak out.Latheef Farook, why don’t you form a party and contest in the next election? A party that will fight only for the Muslims and against Zionism. Not against Rajapakses or Premadasas or Wikremasinghes.

Whats so disgusting on most of the above comments is the extent of racism by most people. If we all have to stand under a common identity as “Sri lankan’s” or civilised human being throwing stones at good and wise comments by politicians will not take this country anywhere.

Irrespective of race, religion, creed, gender or color, we must give due credit where and when it needs to be given. This will be the way we can evolve a civilised political system that will benefit the people of the country.

I must today state that Minister Badhiutheen spoke bravely and for all Sri Lankan at the cabinet meeting where the president had not conducted himself in a manner a president should conduct. (Read: http://dbsjeyaraj.com/dbsj/archives/30889 ).

Why do people be so loyal to a political party, as if they are family members. Politician in this country have robbed all ethnicity’s. People must show politicians that they better do the right, else they will be changed. Instead people take sides on very narrow agenda.

Until the people change their mentality the politicians will continue to “divide and rule”. By the way let us now not anymore blame the British anymore of divide-and-rule and our government is now doing it.

Te world is moving so fast and sad to see Sri Lanka moving to such dark era’s.

    • 1
      0

      Muhunthan,

You are right. One can be loyal to a political party, a politician and his community, but should be more loyal to truth. The worst is to draw historical parallels to justify the unjustifiable. We as humans should learn from history not to repeat past history.

Sambanthan feels safe enough today to point out what is wrong. This he was definitely unable to do when the LTTE had the capacity to play the role of Yama- decide who should live and die. New Yamas have replaced the LTTE, but fortunately Sambanthan need not fear them now, as the real Yama is not very far from him, considering his age. May he live long to become the conscience of a Sri Lanka and give dignity to our parliament through his sensible eloquence- a breeze of fresh air in a dreary desert!

      Dr. Rajasingham Narendran

If you want Tamils to be Sri Lankan then you must accept that there are Tamils in Sri Lanka and that Sri Lanka belongs to these Tamils. If you want Muslims to be Sri Lankan then you must accept that there are Muslims in Sri Lanka and that Sri Lanka belongs to these Muslims. If you want Christians to be Sri Lankan then you must accept that there are Christians in Sri Lanka and that Sri Lanka belongs to these Christians. You cannot expect Tamils, Muslims and Christians and Burghers and Malays and everyone to become Sri Lankan unless you accept that they are in Sri Lanka and that Sri Lanka belongs to them. How many of you RASCISTS are willing to accept that Sri Lanka belongs to ALL of them???
