In a shocking case showcasing gross abuse of ministerial powers, Lanka Sathosa Chief Engineer K Ariyawansha, whose services was terminated over a multi-million rupee fraud has been re-appointed to a top-post in the Industry and Commerce ministry by minister in charge of the subject Rishard Bathiudeen.

Lanka Sathosa too comes under the same ministry. Ariyawansha has been appointed as a senior consultant to the ministry.
The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC), which investigated the scam of over Rs 20, 000 million in Lanka Sathosa ordered Ariyawansha to be sacked and also to keep him out of employment from any state institution in the future.
Despite this order he has been recalled to duty by Industry and Commerce Minister Rishard Bathiudeen and Ministry Secretary T N Tennakoon. He has been appointed to a top post in the ministry.
A group of Sathosa employees last night petitioned the PRECIFAC against the minister’s decision to recall Ariyawansha.
Auditors and senior officers of Sathosa in a petition to the commission stated that Ariyawansha had been involved in several financial frauds at Lanka Sathosa which was proved during presidential commission’s investigation.
Instead of filing action against Ariywansha who was under an affiliated institution under the Industry and Commerce Ministry, Bathiudeen has re-appointed him directly to the ministry staff.
Sathosa officials now say that Ariyawansha is resorting to threats against Sathosa officers who gave evidence before the commission in connection with the case.
Sathosa officers in their petition further state that billionaire businessman Sathasivam Rajan is also involved in these frauds. Sathosa officer say that Aryawansha and colleagues are trying to sweep related frauds under the carpet with the help of Bathiudeen.
Meanwhile, PRECIFAC Secretary Lacille De Silva has warned that the commission will take strict action against anyone who violates their orders or recommendations.
He has promised the Sathosa employees a comprehensive probe.

CT, Thanks for highlighting another abuse of power of/and irregular unethical appointment.
If PRECIFAC’s recommendation that a state officer found guilty of financial fraud should not be employed by the state, is flouted by a minister, this should be reported to the president.
That Bathiudeen has made such an appointment, shows the disdain & contempt he has for PRECIFAC.
Maybe the president is unable to prevent such appointments because he himself has made unethical appointments.
So, where is this government going?
This is not Good Governance – so-called Yahapalanaya.

The fact is that PRECIFAC is a totally useless organizations and a massive waste of tax payers monies. If this guy is corrupt he should be tried in court, put behind bars and the funds recovered. PREFAC has not done any of this and seems to be totally lacking in any strategic action plan to bring even a single corrupt politician to book.

Are these stories true or are we dreaming or has CT suddenly turned anti Govt. The president started the rot in nepotism by appointing
his brother as SLT chief and ministers Ravi , Arjuna and Rishard
followed suit by appointing family members or past racketeers for senior govt. positions and mind you without adequate qualifications as if Sri Lanka does not have enough educated and qualified men and women to fill these positions. Now this is followed by every Dick,Tom and Harry in the Govt. These relatives become greedy and embarrass these ministers asking for 3 fold increase in salaries and perks, not concerned with public out cry over the financial state of the country and they think in terms of “appe Aanduwa” and not about the country’s financial status. If I remember right, President, in his propaganda meetings prior to the general election, categorically stated that none of his relatives will contest parliamentary seats but today, they are full of them in govt. services. People wonder as to what forces the President to accept past culprits to the govt. service against his promises,while the educated remain jobless. Both the President and the PM are paving the way for a ‘one time’ positions by making the people disgusted and go for a change of Govt., which will make it easier for MR to stage a come back which was thought to be non existence on formation of this govt. and in such a short time in office, they are repeating what MR did during his period by these anti people actions.
TNA , SLMP & upcountry Tamils brought this govt. to power and none of
their problems are solved amicably so far nor negotiations started to
