Boozing Moral Policeman Sirisena Moves To Bar Women From Bars

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed officials to abolish the Gazette notification which amended a 1955 law prohibiting women from purchasing alcohol or working in an establishment that sells alcohol.

The President, who himself consumes alcohol, made this announcement addressing a meeting in Agalawatte.

“I expressed my view on the recent revision to the regulations on alcohol control to Prime Minister and Finance Minister, and the positive outcomes of my intervention will soon be seen,” he tweeted a short-while ago.

Earlier, Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera had announced that the 62 year old law, which was not always strictly enforced, would be done away with.

Samaraweera was praised for this ‘positive initiative towards gender equality’ in social media, BBC and the New York post reported.

if a 65 year old law cannot be repealed and a fresh law brought about to reflect the times, then that means we are still in the era of 65 years ago.The stupid assumption has been made by the president that the environment in srilanka and the people of sri lanka have not changed at all in the last 65 years. The correct thing for him to have done is to bring in a new law modifying the earlier one after consultation with women groups.Does he not understand that women constitute 50% of voters.

We want to drink filtered water because of impurities in our tap water and it’s not good for your health. But, we don’t mind alcohol!

Ban Alcohol whether it’s for men or women or children.

    Stop the hypocrisy.

This Prez is a cry baby and a Misogynist at the same time;. The PM hides the truth willfully but continues to remain in power; no problem. The F M gets his marching orders from the P M and is in a dilemma. What, a functioning democracy? Is Seventy Years insufficient to mature into a form of democratic governance.?
The ordinary people of the country are having a rough and tough life.
There seems to be no practical solution to the political dilemma of the country.

Why are men allowed to buy a bottle but not women?
Maybe in Anuradhapura it’s the women who get boozed up and beat up their husbands.
Maybe it’s schoolgirls not rowdy boys who get pissed and brawl on big match days.
Maybe the SLFP is a party of drunken strumpets while the men are paragons of virtue.
