Channa Jayasumana’s Revenge: Shani Transferred Back To Welikada 24 Hours After Heart Surgery

Two days after Podujana Peramuna conspiracy theorist in chief and Viyathmaga ‘professional’ Professor Channa Jayasumana was appointed acting minister of health, SSP Shani Abeysekera who just underwent cardiac surgery was unceremoniously transferred from the Colombo National Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Shani Abeysekara

Abeysekera was taken in for surgery for the insertion of a cardiac stent on Thursday, February 18th.

He was transferred back to the Welikada Prison Hospital by 7PM on Friday, February 19th on the explicit orders of Acting Health Minister Channa Jayasumana, Colombo Telegraph learns.

Prison sources said that Abeysekera was in the hospital but admitted that the facility was not equipped to deal with a cardiac patient straight after surgery. The issue was compounded by the fact that Covid-19 was spreading through overcrowded prisons like wildfire and SSP Abeysekera was particularly vulnerable to infection after his recent surgery.

It was an act of pure revenge, sources told Colombo Telegraph because Shani Abeysekera’s team at the CID had investigated and exposed the fake sterilization scandal at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital that resulted in the prolonged incarceration of the Muslim surgeon Dr Shafi.

Jayasumana was the chief architect of the conspiracy theory that drove the entire Shafi family out of their hometown of Kurunegala.

SSP Shani Abeysekera’s men uncovered the plot and exposed the conspirators, including a DIG and SSP of Kurunegala, the Director of the Hospital Dr Weerabandara, the editor of the Divaina and a Kurunegala hospital anaesthetist whose husband was the magistrate overseeing the case. Jayasumana’s crew who included Dr Weerabandara and the nationalist monk Aturaliye Rathana openly threatened Shani Abeysekera and his investigators after the CID exposed the conspiracy and exonerated Dr Shafi. The CID’s work on Dr Shafi’s case has been vindicated repeatedly, as several women who complained that the Muslim doctor had forcibly sterilized them had given birth within the year.

Jayasumana is a professor of pharmacology at the Rajarata University and while he has been widely discredited on several scientific issues, he has wielded considerable political influence due to his proximity to political players like NFF Leader Wimal Weerawansa.

SSP Abeysekera suffered a massive heart attack en route to an army treatment facility in Polonnaruwa after he contracted the corona virus at the Mahara Prison where he has been remanded since August 2020.

The former CID Director who has been subjected to a massive witch-hunt by the Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration was transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital after an intervention by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka in November.

Senior Physician at the IDH Dr Ananda Wijewickrema told the Gampaha High Court in a report that Abeysekera had suffered a heart attack during the travel. Judges have repeatedly refused to grant Abeysekera bail, despite his severe medical condition. His family has also been refused access to the senior cop, even before he was due to go in for cardiac surgery.

Social media lit up with anger about the treatment meted out to Abeysekera, a cop who relentlessly pursued justice for heinous crimes the United Nations has called ‘emblematic cases’ of impunity in Sri Lanka. Abeysekera’s transfer to prison comes as the UN Human Rights Council is set to meet in Geneva on Monday (22) to consider Sri Lanka’s human rights record, and rights advocates grow increasingly insistent that the country was on a dangerous path towards authoritarianism and a crackdown on dissent. Human Rights Watchdogs have specifically pointed to SSP Abeysekera’s case, to demonstrate how the Nandasena Administration has actively persecuted and harassed those who sought justice for their past crimes. I remember Jayasumana expounded the virtues of the Dhammika pannier saying that unobservable phenomena help in curing covid-19 when the pannier is taken as the mason baas recommended. He, a western-medicine qualified teacher of a medical subject (pharmacology) displayed his true colours when he subscribed to voodoo and mumbo-jumbo and promoted a magic potion developed by a con-artist who made his lifetime killing in one shot promoting a useless syrup that could very well harm more than help anyone. While these confidence tricksters go unpunished, those who aided and abetted the scam hold high positions of political power. Meanwhile, conscientious sleuths like Abeysekera languish in jail at great peril to their lives at the mercy of tribalist opportunists and fraudsters..

Lasamtha Pethiyagoda: Why you name only”Dhammika Peniya Bas” a “Con Artist”? Isn’t this “Prof. Jayasumana” now an “Actg. Minister a “CON ARTIST”? This is not the only occasion he has “PROVED” to be a “Con Artist”. Do you remember the campaign he carried out against that Dr. Shafi on the allegation of “Conspired Abortion” on Sinhala women? There are so many “Con Artists” who are holding “High Positions” under the Government of Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapakse, who himself is a “CON ARTIST” to have escaped “35 Court Cases” (according to Minister of Justice Ali Sabri) using a Provision in the Constitution.

        Dear Simon,
        .
You are dead right – who is not ” CON ARTIST” today when they are close to Rajapakshes mafia net work ?
        .
Dr Shafi ‘s intertility drama is was fabricated to mislead the punnakku eating masses and grab the universal franchise for their comeback.

This should not happen to a man who truly believed in doing an honest day’s work if what that appears is correct. He may have been lead up the path by his legal counsel from what I could guess.

Shani Abeysekera is obviously a thorn on GR’s bum & what better way for his demise than by ‘natural causes’? It is outrageous that the few remaining honest, competent officers are being hounded for doing their job while thugs & convicted criminals, including murders, are exonerated. The public & media outcry over this injustice & deteriorating legal system is woefully inadequate. The forthcoming UNHRC gathering is a good opportunity to highlight the human rights abuses in SL, past & present, yet, nobody dares to do anything, fearing reprisals. Welcome to the new oppressive state of SL.

Reminds me of a saying by a German citizen during Hitler’s regime, which can be related in the SL context: ‘First they came for the terrorists, I was glad
Then they came for the ethnic & religious minorities but I was silent because I
    was not one of them
Now they are rounding up those who are standing up for justice & law but I won’t say
anything because I am not one of them
Will they next come for me next?’

The allegations against Prof. Jayasumana levelled here is profoundly serious. Firstly, his direction to transfer a heart patient immediately back to a hospital where there is no after care facility. Secondly, the animosity arises because the then CID exposed the fake scandal at Kurunegala hospital where the chief architect of the conspiracy was Prof. Jayasumana. Thirdly, he has been discredited on scientific issues though he may be the professor of pharmacology. I may not agree with the thinking of the Professor, but he too deserves justice and fair play and as such substantiation of such allegation, particularly the first, is paramount. He may be a Professor of Medicine and even the acting Minister of Health but if the allegation is true then he deserves to be struck of the roll. A good doctor would not do that even to one’s worst enemy.

When is this ever going to stop? Sad state of affiars!!! It all makes sense now to me, all the good cops have either run away from the country or in jail, that explains why there are so many criminals out and about, mainly in the President and PM’s seats.

In the normal practice, after a “Major Surgery” (e.g. a heart) the patient is kept in an “ICU” for a few days and transferred to a normal ward to be kept under watch for few more days. Next, the Medical Officer has to certify that the patient is fit to be discharged. Has this “Procedure” been followed? If not, “WHO” in that “Medical Team” “DISCHARGED” this patient, Mr. Shany Abesekera, to be kept in an outside “Facility” that cannot take “Proper Care” of him? Perhaps, the GMOA could “educate” the people, besides the “Medical Professionals” who did the surgery. The PEOPLE have a right to know because this “Prisoner” is taken “CARE” of by the PEOPLE. If any “Unforeseen” disaster (e.g.loss of life) takes place, the Government represented by its “Agents” (e.g. Medical Team who takes care of him) must be held “Accountable” and “Responsible”. So it is left to that “Medical Team” to “CLEAR” the air before any “Unforeseen” events take place. The GMOA could speak on behalf of them.

Simon – It appears that Mr. Abesekera had undergone Angioplasty
and as far as my personal experience, the hospital rest is only 24
hours from the time of operation – this treatment being with the
use of entry via hip or forearm. 2 days of home rest is recommended
      in European countries.
BTW the largest number of stents record is 35, a ward worker in USA.
As a Policeman, he is blessed physically and in God’s hands.

        Dear Punchinilame:
A relative underwent the same procedure and was in the coronary care unit for 4 days.
        +
The hospitalization period is dependent on the patient’s disease state, age etc and the need for post procedure monitoring.
        +
In any case, discharge to a prison is not ideal. Shani Abeyesekera too should not have been discharged so quickly and taken back to prison. It was simply thuggery on the part of this government. Just as they removed Sumanthiran’s security details following P2P. Just as they had Ranjan Ramanayake sentenced 4 years of RI. Etc., etc., etc.

What Lankawe trying is to feed Russian Plutonium Coffee to Shani. If Sinhalese have live peacefully and Law and Order had to be maintained in the country, UNHRC has to take a positive decision on Lankawe. All these time UNHRC was much needed to Tamils. Now that is what can save Muslims and Sinhalese.

No argument that the SSP or any other patient must be given the best treatments that is available in Sri Lanka. May be due to lack of ICU facilities, sometimes, the patients who must be in the ICU are sent to normal ward. Some say the ICU beds are reserved for high profile persons.
    /
There is no way that dr Sapi is an innocent bunny. His case has obviously been bungled up due to pressure from Muslim politicians. So, it’s not the fault of the SSP.

Pure abuse of power and criminal offense. His name should be struck off medical register.

Dare we hope that Shani Abeyesekera survives this regime to tell all! Let’s hope UNHRC and other human rights advocacy groups continue their close scrutiny and keep exposing the lawlessness of the Gota Rajapaksa regime.

Speaking of Heart Operations, I must take the opportunity to reveal the latest –
The use of EECP Machine, in Pune India, introduced by Indian Medical AIIMS Doctor. It is now approved by US FDA and TN Govt. It is called NATURAL BYPASS _ the patient is given about 20 bottles of IV fluids in which certain medicaments are injected. The medicine cleans the system and removes all blockages from the heart and arteries. The number of bottles may depend on age-factor and health and costs approx. IRs. 2000 per bot.

Only a few Doctors in India specialize. Known mobile Nos. 09500037040, 07200648296. This information was circulated by the Whatsapp Group WFO (We For Ourselves) under USA Medical Scientist Dr. Anuram. (Retired)

      Dear Punchinilame:
EECP is not an alternative treatment to those requiring a bypass surgery, angioplasty, or stenting. It is typically a treatment for those experiencing persistent angina pain perhaps even after any invasive procedure.
      +
Also, this is total misinformation that “the patient is given about 20 bottles of IV fluids in which certain medicaments are injected. The medicine cleans the system and removes all blockages from the heart and arteries.” Not so. Not so. I can’t even imagine that such a thing is possible given the delicate nature of human vasculature… to say the least. EECP is a completely non-invasive therapy.

Viyathmaga ‘professional’ Professor Channa Jayasumana who cooked up the whole story of the Muslim doctor Shafi in the Kurunegala hospital administering forced sterilizations to Sinhalese women is nothing but a vicious cruel thug. These are the types of people left among the Sinhela population in Sri Lanka without any credibility. These are the types of people who will stoop to any low to undermine any civilized government. These are the types of people that need to be expunged and jailed but the failure to do so is now manifesting itself in this manner. This idiot also promoted the pannya for COVID. If there are any more Viyathmaga professionals remaining then they all must be similar nasty cruel conmen. No self respecting professionals with genuine credentials can hold their nose against the stink of this goon squad and call them selves Viyathmaga ‘professionals’.

What is really left to comment , scanning through the often written same one track minded comments of our CT readers.

I for one ,can only choose to Sing .
There is a hole in the bucket by Harry Belafonte.

A hole Harry could never fix.

It is the same situation , with the mindset of many Sri Lankans..
Who want to hug unto hate and revenge, will always make sure we can never fix that hole since 70 Years .

Until The holes in the minds are fixed ,
It’s useless trying to do anything with the country .
The change must begin from within us .
No point blaming politics or politicians,

They just feed our hate and prejudice , with no choice , because each of us have some kind of sickness in our hearts( minds) and no cure, unless we are Willing to let go and embrace the change.
