The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is to question Parliamentarians Dinesh Gunawardena and Wimal Weerawansa over the recent discovery of a suicide jacket along with other explosives in Chavakachcheri.
The decision comes after the CID grilled former minister G. L. Periris for over three hours over his statement that the suicide jacket was to be transported to Wellawatte.
The CID will question Gunawardena and Weerawansa to ascertain whether they have similar information as disclosed by Peiris, and after Peiris told the CID that it was Gunawardena and Weerawansa who had in fact informed him that the suicide jacket was to be transported to Wellawatte.
Meanwhile, initial investigations have found that the suicide jacket was manufactured in 2008. The cache of explosives has been sent to the government analyst, and the report is expected to be released by mid this week.
