Death Of Tamil Political Prisoner: Political And Civil Society Leaders Demand An impartial enquiry

By Colombo Telegraph –

A group of political and civil society leaders and activists,  assembled today in Colombo  have unanimously  decided to request an impartial enquiry  by an independent forensic analyst and a credible postmortem report  in respect of the cause of the death of Tamil political prisoner Ganesan Nimalaruban.  We below produce their demanding letter to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A LTTE suspect, who was transferred from the Vavuniya prison to the Mahara prison following the turmoil at the Vavuniya prison, has died yesterday.

HE Mahinda Rajapaksa

President

Presidential Secretariat

Colombo

Your Excellency,

Death of Tamil political prisoner Ganesan Nimalaruban at the Mahara remand prison

We the undersigned, political and civil society leaders and activists,  assembled today in Colombo carefully analyzed the grave situation that has developed immediately after the death of the above named prisoner early yesterday, have unanimously decided to forward following demands to Your Excellency’s immediate attention and anticipate positive response to ease the crisis:

·        The parents of deceased Ganesan Nimalaruban who had been brought to Colombo from Vavuniya by the police, should be freed from the police custody and allowed to have access to the lawyers they have retained

·        An impartial enquiry must be held by an independent forensic analyst and a credible postmortem report must be presented in respect of the cause of the death of Ganesan Nimalaruban

·        The parents and family members should be allowed conduct a decent and religious burial for the dead prisoner at Nelungkulam, Vavuniya, the village of Ganesan Nimalaruban

Your Excellency, we have been informed by the eye witnesses on the inhuman merciless attacks the deceased and his colleagues received in remand custody during the days following the Vavuniya incident on June, 29th. We also wish to bring to your notice that there are more inmates who have received serious injuries.

Under these circumstances, we consider that the realization of above demands in the case of Ganesan Nimalaruban will help to ease the crisis situation which has arisen today and also grant little justice to the voiceless parents who have lost their only son.

Yours truly,

The case of Welikade inquiry did not find anyone in authority guilty.
The commander at the prison at the time of rioting protected the perpetrators.
He is the one in charge of the armed forces in the North and the lives of “unprotected” civilians.
What can the political prisoners expect?

    another massacre?

They had been threatened several times with “Kuttimani & Thangathurai treatment” by prison guards.
Even the fellow-prisoners at magazine threatened the political prisoners for not joining the riots few weeks back in Magazine.

Conditional bail would be the way to go in the direction of reconciliation.
When rehab is offered for the eligible political prisoners, everyone jumped at the offer but no action have taken in that direction.

      Udugampola

Do you really want the truth to come out?

DIG Udugampola’s activities during Premada’s presidency were recorded in reports by 3 commissions appointed by Chandrika. These reports were never published nor the perpetrators of human rights were ever brought to justice.

      You are joking aren’t you?

The Family that rules this country will not do anything about this horrendous HR violations but this case will influence the international community to demand for independent international investigation into the HR violations/war crime in Sri Lanka at the next UNHCR session.

Will His Excellency first order the interdiction of those prison officers allegedly involved, and then institute an inquiry into the incident.
This will be a test of his being a just head of state.

DAS this so called MR Chinthanaya rests on the Corrupt, the Drug Peddlars, Fund Embezzlers, Paedophiles, Rapists, Murderers, Sychophants and a Section of the Naive Sinhala Buddhist Mutts. If one is removed the whole system will collapse.

What exactly is the problem then, you and the rest of the LTTE diaspora should fit right in.

This is nothing but political revenge against Tamil people. No two words about it. It is like shut up or put up for these voiceless people. It’s very dirty and anti human. Someone has to answer for these crimes.

It is now reported that the parents have been denied their right of burying Nimalaruban’s body in Vavunia where they live.
A magistrate has refused their plea on grounds of “nationa security”.
How the burial of a murdered man’s body in his home town affects national security in inexplicable.
The parents refused to sign a statement proffered by the police before release of the body.
Now the state decrees where bodies of citizens who died of intended trauma should be buried, the manner of burial, rites before burial, the route of the funeral procession, orations by relatives & friends before burial, the number allowed to be present at the funeral house etc. etc.
This has already happened in many instances.
Are we living in a ‘police’ or a ‘military’ state ?

Recently a GOSL minister warned the Tamils saying that if you do not shut up there will be 100s of Mullivaikal. This Prison death is a warning to say shut up. Do what I tell you. If not you will face the same fate as Nimalaruban. This shows that there is no democracy in Srilanka. There is no hope of reconciliation with Tamils. The Srilanka like Iraq & Libya is moving towards a bloody state. Both Tamils, Sinhalese & Muslims are going to be killed in thousands. May GOD save Srilanka.
