Defend The Right Of NPC To Pass Genocide Resolution

United Socialist Party (CWI-Sri Lanka) unequivocally defends the right of the Northern Provincial council in its attempt to bring the focus of the world on the Brutal war that killed 100’s of thousands of innocent Tamils in the North & the East of this country. Especially this resolution was passed by the NPC in the circumstance where the new Maithri government is pressurising the human right council in Geneva not to present the report in March and postpone the their sub- committee report till next September.

While the Governments of Mahinda and the present one led by Maithripala wants to hide this terrible sitiation under carpet, but it is a fact that humongous acts of War Crimes did happen, especially during the last weeks of war in 2009 and even after people who surrendered. The continuation of Military domination of the North and the terrifying reality with which the Tamil people “live” in this country urgently needs an independent inquiry at least.

We defend the democratic right of the elected body of the Tamil people to represent the interests of Tamil people and the pass the resolution for an International Inquiry in to the war. Most of established Tamil political leaders have used to look upon India and west for short cut solutions but we think it is erroneous & futile exercise on their part to expect the Capitalist Governments of the West and the regional powers like India to do justice to their cause. It is these International forces Capital who were solidly behind the regime in Sri Lanka which conducted a brutal war. Appealing to the forces to investigate the war crimes and expect justice is like believing in a Chimera.

USP has always stood for An independent war crimes investigation: For a people’s tribunal consisting of representatives accountable to working class and poor people from all communities, chosen by them and observed by international trade union and human rights organisations. Only such a body could be truly free of the influence of the Sri Lankan government and their international collaborator.

The defeated Sinhala communal extremist forces in the south have begun to utilised this situation in a subtle attempt to gain upper hand in the southern polity. At present they do not have any other way to whip up communalism. It is the duty of the trade unions working class and the real left forces to raise their voice against this attempt revive the communalism.

This is a sensitive issue which has to be handled very cautiously. Investigations will have to be held and at least the key culprits should be brought to book.
An entirely local tribunal will not be sufficient. At least, it has to be a hybrid one with at least half the panel consisting of international judges of repute.
Justice should not only be done, it should also appear to be done.

There is a precedent for a panel consisting of international judges to be appointed to investigate war crimes by the SLG and it’s armed forces.
A panel of judges consisting mainly from Commonwealth countries was appointed to investigate the muder of SWRD.Bandaranaike by his wife when she became PM of the country in the sixties.
But the Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma may put a spanner in the spoke for that precedent to work considering his record on the CJ’s impeachment issue.
In such circumstances there has to be UN involvement.

I have no problem with the RIGHT of the NPC to pass this resolution; actually I have not seen anything in English denying the NPC’s RIGHT to pass this or any other resolution. The more important issue is the allegation of genocide CORRECT? Siri leaves this question unanswered. I will discuss this next week – 1 March.

Another important question is why was Siri or another USP representative not present at the 22 February LSSP-Left groups convention?

Kumar David asks the stupid question (for which he is famous): “why was Siri or another USP representative not present at the 22 February LSSP-Left groups convention?”

David should have looked in to the results of the January presidential election to find the answer.

Our hero Siritunga ended up getting all of 8,840 votes, or an abysmal 0.07% of the vote! Our Siri would have been wallowing in the glory that he polled 5000 votes more than Baththaramulle Seelarathana Thero. That is the reason.

But our hero Siri goes on to declare in a victorious tone that “The defeated Sinhala communal extremist forces in the south have begun to utilise this situation in a subtle attempt to gain upper hand in the southern polity.” Ha… ha…

The problem with our democracy at the moment is that those who were unabke to participate in democratic elections due to lack of a voter base(Ranil W and the JVP) and other insignificant characters like Siritunga are making the most noise.

They also seem to have great trouble with a man who polled 5.7 million votes laying a legitimate claim to stay in politics.

How long will this perversion of democracy last? Not too long hopefully.

“At present they do not have any other way to whip up communalism.”

This is not true Siturunga. They now have Dayan Jayatilleke the professional war crimes denier to help them out.

      Simon:
That is only half the story because the other half of that duo of which DJ was part is IN THE GOVERNMENT of Sirisena/Ranil: Rajiva Wijesinha. If anything he is more “bold-faced” than even Dayan Jatatilleke, if performance is anything to go by!

Obedience is a sin .disobedience is a virtue and being disobedience makes us human ! :GUILLERMO DEL TORO. Eelam genocide this horrifying images tells how Mahinda rajapakse and his allies won the war.eelam was a blood river and thousands of people were killed over rascistic ethnic conflict.when the war at its peak srilankan mainstream had been so curious to see the climax of that brutal war.after the defeat of LTTE and the killing of Eelam people entire srilanka celebrated the war victory and all of us ate Kiribath over thousands of death bodies in order to show our patriotism.how a human being could celebrate a horrible death of fellow human? What went wrong ?we all forgot to think about one thing which is it was a civil war a internal conflict Sinhala majoritarianism defeated it’s own people and that fascist regime wrote its own history .blood still remains in the the pages of history.what shall the history books read ? Most probably history would read it from the point of view of Sinhala majority and those thousands of death would be considered as some insurgents tried to destroy the sovereignty of this holy Buddhist land.race is the very baddest disease of this country it’s been working on different forms since independent.majority’s insecure obsession is working very hardly on every sector.this race divided Eelam society those who shared the dinner table ,those who shared the bed ,those who shared the class room they turned against each other and chopped one another’s head and finally their resistance was hollowed out and they were lost in that valley of darkness.who made those people desperate ?What are they gonna tell to the next generation of that society ?answers lies without being answered . i think it will take another hundred years to come over this fascistic disorder of majority community .our selfish asses has to come down on streets to talk about this carnage.those people who carried this barbaric war have to be punished. That will be the right answer to those who lost their lives on this blood bath.

What on earth is this fellow on about? Isn’t this a classic case of ‘koheda yanne, malle pol’? The Resolution of the NPC, as far as I am aware, calls for an enquiry into the alleged genocide of the Tamils from the time of Independence in 1948 until now but this fellow is writing about the alleged human rights violations during the war with the LTTE.

Jim Softly asks whether this man lives in SL or abroad. Maybe, he is on another planet!

It looks like the Tamils are NOT willing to let things reconcile and get over….

So I think the best option is a PARTITION into North-East and South-West Sri Lanka.

There will have to be a population transfer agreement between the two parties. Sinhala ethnics will be move from present N-E region to S-W region. And the Tamils in S-W will have to move into the N-E region.

This would be the best for the Sinhalese who will have the right to exercise their freedom without the shackles of Tamils. (Vice versa for Tamls) …

Perhaps India will take an interest in the newly formed N-E region. Let it be so as this will be non of our concern.

Perhaps certain regions in the Amparai district will have to be given to the Eastern province and the rest given to Southern and Central provinces as Sinhala areas.

LOGIC here is that if there is a TAMIL area in the N+E then there should and will be a region for the Sinhalese in the S-W of Sri Lanka.

Yes ! go ahead and pass any resolution.

It is unfortunate that 30,000 personnel had to go to work and not return in their duty to the Sri Lankan state. But that we have to bear as loss..and move on.

It is a pity that people like you are a rare commodity in Sinhala Lanka. Even MS was once a part of the Evil Empire. Mangala Samaraweera despite all the pretences is Globe Trotting trying to save MR from being taken to the HAGUE. Now the World can see as to why an internal investigation will never get to the bottom of what really happened.
Even Karuna is trying to buy favour with the new look GOSL by saying that it was the LTTE who killed 600 surrendering Sinhala soldiers and he goes on to say that the Army never committed any War Crime. Karuna single handedly killed more than 2000 Soldiers.
