Tamils of Eelam need non-partisan political solution: D.Raja
The Indian delegation to Sri Lanka was in essence an attempt to mollify the hurt sentiments of Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Geneva resolution, said D.Raja, Rajya Sabha member, Communist Party of India, here on Friday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a party event here, the CPI leader said that there was no space for independent inquiry by the delegation led by the leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj.
The scope of the visit was regimented by Sri Lankan authorities, and displaced Tamils in refugee camps were tutored not to utter uncomfortable truths, the CPI leader alleged, speaking on the sidelines of a party event here.
According to Mr.Raja, a non-partisan political solution was what the Tamils of the Eelam needed.
On the state of the nation at the Centre, a Left-led democratic political path was the only alternative politics that was available for people. This was borne out of a necessity in the absence of a credible political front, Mr.Raja said.
The Congress-led UPA was clinging on to power not out of the strength of its policies. There was an increasing corporatisation in governance, which was evident in the fall of government subsidies for fertilizers and food.
The budget continued to dole out concessions for big corporations, while the common person continued to be burdened by taxes. The hands-off approach of the government on oil companies threat to hike prices was just a pointer to the government’s pro-market tilt.
The BJP was under an illusion of capturing power over the downfall of the Congress. However, both parties were identical in their neoliberal policies, offering no respite to people.
Mr.Raja also alleged that home affairs under P.Chidambaram was riddled with internal disturbances posing a threat to the federal scheme between the Centre and the States.
Critiquing the rumoured faultlines between the Army and the government, the CPI leader said that there was an evident breakdown of communication between the two institutions, which did not augur well for the security of the country as a whole.
