Economic Misery & Majoritarian Tyranny

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

The 2022 Independence Day would be celebrated in an environment of a unique economic crisis never experienced by any previous government since 1948. To millions of people in this country even one meal a day has become a luxury. Economic misery rules and the rulers are scapegoating the pandemic for causing it. That the pandemic exacerbated the misery is never questioned, but the damage done to the economy by two years of faulty economic policies coupled with a gross underestimation of the real cost of the ethnic civil war that ended over a decade ago in bringing about the current crisis need to be acknowledged. Over all, the prevailing economic disaster is the cumulative effect of Sri Lanka’s majoritarian democracy, which failed to incorporate the synergy of the nation’s ethnic and cultural heterogeneity in the struggle for economic growth, a factor sadly ignored by local economic experts and development advisers. In other words, the tyranny of majoritarianism has sapped the economic vitality of this nation like an undetected cancerous growth.

Sri Lanka’s Sinhala Buddhist majoritarianism is the product of political Buddhism, a strange phenomenon in the context of Buddha’s principles and philosophy on state governance. This was clearly spelt out in a recent televised dialogue between two eminent scholar monks, Ven. Galkande Dhammananda and Ven. Uduhavara Ananda, from the Kelaniya and Colombo universities respectively. Had the Sangha advised the post-independence rulers on the true nature of Buddhist governance as the two scholars implied, Sri Lanka would have checkmated the growth of majoritarian tyranny. Needless to emphasize that it was such virtuous advice from the Sangha in the past that made Sri Lanka’s pre-colonial Buddhist monarchs the architects of a peaceful, prosperous and resplendent island. In contrast, the so-called virtuosity injected by the monks surrounding President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has produced a republic of chaos.

Historically, the seeds of majoritarianism as an outgrowth of political Buddhism were sown in the late 19th century in the thick of a Buddhist nationalist wave started by that Buddhist zealot and national hero Anagarika Dharmapala, who ironically wished to be reborn not in Buddhist Sri Lanka but in a Brahmin family in Hindu India – a less known fact among his living disciples. Although political Buddhism in the immediate aftermath of independence arose as a legitimate response to nearly 450 years of political and cultural subjugation of Buddhists by three Western Christian powers, it blossomed thereafter and metamorphosed into an aggressive ethno-religious ideology aiming not only to claim total ownership of the country but also to deny equal citizenship to members of local minority communities. Today’s authoritarian GR regime, brought to power by a coalition of Sinhala-Buddhist supremacists, represents the epitome of that ideology, which has made other ethnic and religious minorities composing nearly thirty per cent of the country’s population disconnected to the regime’s so called development efforts.

From the 1948 disenfranchisement of Indian Tamils through to the 1956 Sinhala Only Bill, the 1972 constitution elevating Buddhism alone to the foremost place followed by series of state initiated pro-majoritarian policies under different governments on education, public administration and land distribution, and right down to the current agenda of legal homogenization under a controversial One Country One Law task force headed by a militant Buddhist monk, has left the ethnic and religious minorities experience the tyranny of Sinhala-Buddhist majoritarianism. It is in understanding this tyrannous impact of majoritarian democracy on a big chunk of the nation’s population and in taking measures to reconnect the disconnected with the struggle for economic growth that the country could be ridden of its prevailing misery.

The current regime is incapable of doing it, because the ruling Rajapaksa dynasty with its Viyathmaga power cartel is wedded to Sinhala-Buddhist majoritarianism. From the day when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa took his oath of allegiance in the precincts of Ruwanvelisaya in 2020 to the day when he was ennobled by a team of Buddhist monks as Lankaeeswara Padmavibushana in 2022, his presidency and government have vowed to protect and promote Buddhism alone and govern primarily in the interest of the Sinhala Buddhist majority. The cry of the minorities for justice and equal rights have fallen on deaf years. The struggle over the 13th Amendment by Tamils and the Catholic Cardinal’s crusade for justice to victims of that Easter infamy are just two episodes among many where the regime has shown callous disregard to minority demands. This is why they are forced to seek assistance from external powers and that in turn has economic implications.

Regrettably, none of the opposition parties except perhaps JVP/NPP is prepared to speak out openly against majoritarian tyranny. Even within JVP/NPP different leaders are speaking in different tones when touching on this thorny issue. Opposition’s sensitivity to the Buddhist vote bank is the main reason for this weakness. However, like manna from heaven the severity of the current economic crisis seems to teach the Buddhist masses that they too have been hoodwinked by majoritarianism. With civil societies working closely with a political party like JVP/NPP the majoritarian tyrannous nut could be broken. In the end, it does not matter how it happens but unless that tyranny ends there is no hope for sustainable economic revival. There is nothing more valuable as productive assets than a country’s people. The larger is their participation greater will be the gross national product and per capita income. It is not development that would remove evils of majoritarian tyranny as GR mistakenly assumes, but it is the removal of that tyranny that would guaranty development and prosperity.

I agree with and appreciate everything the writer says, but no member of the Rajapaksa dynasty and none of the members of the Viyathmaga power bloc read the Colombo Telegraph. All of them believe they can achieve Prosperity and Splendour by means of an exclusively Sinhala-Buddhist driven economy.

Can you elaborate your question please.
My desire is to see a separate Homeland for Tamil speaking people so that at least 90% of them will enjoy the benefits of self determination or whatever the solution the Tamil political class is proposing.
I am opposed to HOLIDAY RESORT MODEL OF TAMIL EALAM.

              You made a suggestion.
I only explored the implications of “Tamils (all Tamil speaking people) who are presently occupying Sinhala majority provinces should be educated on the eventual possibility of relocation.”
              *
Countries have created autonomous regions to address the national question, but not exclusively for any community.
You should think through your proposals considering that there are Tamil speaking groups resident outside N&E for centuries

“Tamils (all Tamil speaking people) who are presently occupying Sinhala majority provinces should be educated on the eventual possibility of relocation.”

The best way forward is for both Sinhala speaking and Tamil speaking people to determine a period of transition, and eventual relocation to their ancestral homeland, South India.

Will you now commence educating both people as to why they should go back to Tamil Nadu for their own good?
Hope you will set an example, inspire both people, go back.

What is the plan envisaged in that respect?
If not it will end up liken to the Organic Fertiliser syndrome!!!
No plan, in-depth study by eminent professionals!!!
I do hope you bear in mind, how, why, and when these employees, 150+ years ago translocated (lock, stock and barrel) from South India to become residents/citizens (later) mainly in the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa north western and to a lesser extent Southern provinces in the Tea, Rubber and coconut plantations.
That was the primary reason them becoming citizens of Lanka to be in this island!! Not to distort the demography, I suppose!!!!!!!
The Colonial governments (Mainly Britain) did it as believe from historical records, because the Natives could not attend the predawn ‘Call of Muster’ in view of the harsh conditions (Cold/Fog/Mist) in the elevated areas of these plantations!!
Perhaps they may have become more agile to meet these demands!!
Then that is a good sign.
Otherwise, it will end up like the sawbhakiya Dekma and Organic Agriculture/Food security!!!
You mention “Tamil Speaking People” in your appeal to relocate.
Then that will include (Incha Allah) our Brethren who are the masters of trade

          Soma,
“Tamils (all Tamil speaking people) who are presently occupying Sinhala majority provinces should be educated on the eventual possibility of relocation.”
That is sounding so genuine and like the ‘new wake’ of the Gospel reinvented!!
There should be a “contra plan” too, in my belief, supported by the little knowledge, about the economy of Sri Lanka
The main Foreign Exchange (FE) earners for the country are:
          1. Middle East remittances of mostly unskilled labour with a little spattering of professionals.
          2. Export of Tea
          3. Export of branded garments for worldwide consumption
          4. Miscellaneous exports, Rubber, gems, spices and coconut products
If your plan to work, which I am sure you have planned well, we need to address (2) above and the 1+ million employed in this industry, which is a grueling task oriented with hard work, ethics and Time schedules!!!
If they (1+ million estate employees – Kankanis downwards to tea pluckers and Thalaivars – are not there when your plan is implemented, how do you expect the industry to cope and continue to earn the valuable FE?

“his presidency and government have vowed to protect and promote Buddhism alone and govern primarily in the interest of the Sinhala Buddhist majority.”
I don’t think there is nothing wrong in promoting Buddhism or Buddhist principles as taught by Lord Buddha. But Rajapaksas are not doing that but they are cheating people using the Buddhism to protect them from all the crimes they committed against Buddhist teachings. Whatever the words that come out from their mouth are full of lies and violent nature.

      .
In other words they are using Buddhism as the opium of the people.
      .
Rajapaksasa have forgotten to take one thing into account, many of our people operate on primal instincts, and hunger is one of the main primal instincts that drive us. Play with our stomach, all sorts of other primal instincts will surface.
      .
There will be no turning back, till the people satisfy their animalistic desire. They will massacre the entire Rajapaksa family like how Nicolae Ceaușescu was killed in Romania in 1989.
      .
As anti-government protesters demonstrated in Timișoara in December 1989, he perceived the demonstrations as a political threat and ordered military forces to open fire on 17 December, causing many deaths and injuries.
      .
The people were able to overcome this with numbers and succeeded in overthrowing the government.
      .
Ceaușescu and his wife Elena fled the capital in a helicopter, but they were captured by the military after the armed forces defected.
      .
After being tried and convicted of economic sabotage and genocide, both were sentenced to death, and they were immediately executed by firing squad on 25 December.
      .
I hope you guys are seeing the writing on the wall. This situation is imminent in Sri Lanka.

Ameer Ali, Rajapaksas with help of Sangha have turned crime and corruption as SB culture. Just see what Namal said about MR’s recent surgery. He denied any by saying he and his father were in hospital visiting a friend, but soon after Chamal in public admitted that MR is recovering from surgery. Namal also denies any embezzlement by ex personal secretary of MR saying “only sons steal money from their father’s account and never an outsider”. Does it mean it’s normal for him to steal his dad’s money which in turn was stolen from public ??

      .
Fundamentally the entire Rajapaksa family and their ass licking hanger-on’s are sociopaths, many are psychopaths also.
      .
Lying and stealing amongst other things come easily to them.
Going against norms, scruples, rules, etiquette, laws, cheating, deceiving, misleading, stealing, killing, etc is their main skill set. (Bread and Butter so to speak).
Most of all, they have no shame or dignity. A beggar on the street will have dignity.
      .
They have replaced dignity with false egos.
      .
A family friend stealing, stolen money from them is a simple thing…..
      .
No big deal, after all it was from an account that was untouched since 2005.
Besides, the amount involved is also peanuts in comparison to what the Mara clan themselves have stolen.
      .
      Their end is near.
We have to worry about the guys who will replace these bastards.
At least this time let us all think like human beings and select people who will lead us out of this catastrophe.

One persons’ attempt failed this week. Believe it is only a temporary setback although initiated as a conciliatory process.
All will be well come February for him, which is welcome too as it is almost 20 months of incarceration, perceived as “trumped up charges”.
So the denial is thought, was to avoid further discussion and delving into the issue as the public would have become aware of goings on.
In all this the I feel sorry as a human being for the PM, though London would have been preferred location, may not have wanted to risk going to London after the events during his last visit to old Blighty and consequent exit with General Gallage, in tow!
So operation was done at the “New World”, Colombo, the surgeon visiting to assess the suitability and septic conditions of the institution and the patient.
Word around is that another senior Sri Lankan Orthopaedic surgeon, now retired from active practice too helped do the assessment process, but this could not be independently verified!!

      CHIV,
Has anyone elicited the underlying reason for the denial.
I assure you that will be very interesting to read!
Is it a matter of “simple forgetfulness”?
No. Certainly not in my belief!!!
The news story also claimed that the family has been in contact very closely with the surgeon concerned for weeks and he has made 2 previous visits to SL in that time, even with his busy schedule in England as a senior surgeon in NHS Harley St Centre, London.
Recommend study of issues happened and happening commencing early/mid December 2021, circa ‘Thirupathy Thevasthanam’ visit in chartered flight by PM???!!!
The concerned eminent surgeon is an old boy of a leading school in the vicinity of Colombo and so is 2 others that is in the news all-of a sudden during this period of 6-7 weeks.
No reasons adduced for AG;s change of heart and mind??!
No credible reasons have been adduced for the sudden change in the direction of what has been happening since 2018/19 in 1 case, which was controversial and death fast too in NWP!!!

          Morning
“Do you think that kind of a busy and leading surgeon would make number of visits to SL if he is not paid truckloads of $$$?? And the cost of visiting Thirupathy in their own private jet?”
The answer is NO. Certainly not, even by stretch of any imaginative process!!!
That’s what I wish to point out and the reason the ‘future PM’ wants to “smother” by firstly denying any such event, so detailed discussion does not occur.
However, the lord willed otherwise and the uncle “spelt or spilled” the beans!!!!
          Poor fellow Namal!!!!!!!!
The plane and Thirupathy visit would have been in excess of US $ 350000, including storage charges in CMB, and flight cost from Kampala to CMB amongst others!!!
That is more than 60% of what he would have earned as wages last 10 years.
PM must have lived on ‘APPA’ feeds participated by Maru Sira, not one day but all the time!!!

Word has it that ex-queen sensing that ex-king’s time is nigh, did a trawl of his accounts, spotted this bank account and withdrawals therefrom, and identified son of late ex-PM as the culprit.

Culprit, as it turns out, was allegedly and under authority, doling out monies from this slush-fund to various monarchical comfort ladies (we used to call them concubines). Needless to say, culprit will be protected until “something” happens to ex-king and will thereafter be made a public scapegoat. [If he has any sense, said culprit will sequester himself somewhere safe and then spill the beans – what fun that will be!].

Why is young king-in-waiting denying the whole thing? Could it be perchance that the said slush fund has been set up in perpetuity; some say like a trust fund, to cover covert activity of this kind for heir apparent too?

Mahila, if true makes sense why a private jet is needed for travel due to inability sitting or travel in a posture causing least amount of pain/discomfort. Usually this is a chronic condition where obesity plays a major role. In few turns acute when the spinal cord gets compressed by internal bulging where immediate decompression is needed. Thirupathy must be a pre-surgery visit to get blessings avoiding untoward results. A true SB indeed.

I beg your pardon, SB majoritarianism was in place far before what we call political Buddhism came into practice.

For most of us, ‘trust in god’ is indicative of a honourable person, which as been politicised in different ways, such as, ‘god save the queen (or king)’, ‘God save America’ or ‘in god we trust’. Therefore, even if one does not believe in the rhetoric, it is expected, particularly, the politicians, from Presidents & PM to Royalty, to keep up the appearances. In SL, we have gone overboard with Buddhism, as, for the average village peasant or man on the street, whether religiously inclined or not, the temple is the hub of life. Over the years, Buddhism in SL has been interpreted to suit our needs, & today, even the Bodhi tree is worshipped & drowned in water as a ritual. In the absence of an all mighty god to ask favours from, some Buddhist temples even accommodate Hindu gods. Our leaders are known to visit Hindu temples, not only in SL but in India as well, probably, even seeking blessings from Christian saints & the pope as well, but more discreetly.

If one has solace in a faith, it is a personal matter, & certainly, a country may be governed by religious principals but when blind faith in divine powers becomes an obsession, the question is whether it is to convince the gullible or the rulers themselves are unable of rational thinking, Religious sentiment is the trump card for politicians which overrides their hypocrisy & incompetence.

Dynasty rule in Sri Lanka must be stopped. It’s sad to note that people act like slaves and send the same crooks to Parliament over and over again. This needs educating the voters. All the major parties, including JVP until now have never knocked on doors, on a consistent basis, to campaign during, before, and after elections. This is a practice that has shown very good results in developed democracies. This has to be done in Sri Lanka so the slave mentality of the voters is changed.

More than two decades ago, a Western Diplomat told a small gathering, in a hush-hush voice, that the Buddhist Monks – ‘The Yellow Robes’ in her words – will never let the Sri Lankan government solve the crisis in the country, even if the Sinhala politicians want to!
She would have corrected herself, today. Not just the Buddhist monks even the Sinhala politicians will not let the government solve it.

      HT,
This shows that people are slowly realising what happened to their franchise.
Little too late, but nevertheless good.
If you ask me, whether the people have learnt a lesson and not repeat the same mistake, I would hesitate to answer ‘YES’
BECAUSE, the people at large are basing their voting pattern, on the misnomer, who gives them better than, “¼ bottle of Gal Arrack and Chicken Biryani Bath Parcel for lunch on Election Day”?
This is a mal practice, which should be stopped at all cost! If you’re banned from providing transport to polling booth to your Neighbour friend down your same road and is an election fraud, prohibited by law, why not this graft of “¼ BOTTLE OF GAL ARRACK AND CHICKEN BIRYANI BATH PARCEL FOR LUNCH ON ELECTION DAY”
THIS IS OUTRIGHT BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION OF THE VOTER TO GAIN VOTES.
Election commission is sleeping or dumb, but enforce the transport law!!!! MP’s same attitude!!!
Why, because that aids absentee voters on Election Day, facilitating impersonation of voters!!!
More thugs a party has it is a better option, if they can’t inspire voters!!!!!

          SJ,
I cannot agree with you more.
My point is that, just because there is someone doing it elsewhere, we do not need to replicate that folly.
We are and independent, intelligent country of reasonably well educated people
          If so, importantly, why should:
          1. Law preventing voter transport to the polling booth on Election Day
          2. That believe on the premise, it leads bribing voter (‘bought over’) by facilitator
          3. Doesn’t the provision of Food and drinks also aid facilitator to influence the voter?
          4. I would wager that the possibility is existent but not 100% on both 2 and 3 above
          5. However, in respect of item 1 above, there exists further negative outcome as implemented:
          a. In remote areas, lack of reliable Public Transport makes voter vulnerable/non-attendance!
          b. This vulnerability causes voters franchise being stolen/misused
          c. Thugs and Political representatives use to cast ‘Hora’ voting – Impersonation!
          d. The outcome of the election is “Skewed”
          6. My point is, as progressive nation we should deplore both as 3 above is clearly GRAFT
I hope I have explained the basis of my thinking on this.
Politicians BRIBE the voter and the voter permits Corruption of politicians whilst in office

Dr. Ameer Ali like Tisaranee always writes brilliantly, but what is the point. The majority on this island are racist as well as religious bigots, who believe in a fairy tale story that they are the by-products of a lion mating with a woman somewhere in the jungles in North East India and the chosen people and another lot of opportunistic religious fanatics, who do not acknowledge their own culture and heritage, will even destroy it but worship another and claim it as their own, in the name of religion as well as for political or economic opportunism. The politicians belonging to both these groups, deliberately use this for their own benefit to win power and to amass immense wealth at the expense of the country and the ordinary people. Nothing will improve. Look at what has happened on the island in the name of majoritarian race/religion, religious fanaticism, and the blind worshipping of an alien culture in the name of religion or whatever.

Whatever happening in India or elsewhere is no excuse for state-sponsored racist terror religious fanaticism and worshipping of some alien culture in the name of religion here. I am not discussing India and whatever is nothing to what is happening here. Comparing what is happening in China to the Muslim Uighurs and the Buddhist Tibetans is more apt but you will never. SJ,
                Good morning.
Your ref, “It may be good to go for a long walk occasionally.”
Thank the Lord, you gave my heart a respite, by your chose walk instead of “MARCH”
Mao Tse Dung did many things well, but it seems the present lot of his followers are not!
In case you are wondering, what rubbish I am talking, see below comment by Minister of Agriculture
“Now demands US$ 750 per a metric ton of fertilizer, despite the fact that we have agreed to pay only US$ 345 under the initial agreement”.
That is MORE than DOUBLE the amount agreed as per tender.
Million $ question to minister is,
“”What were other suppliers’ tender rate?” Was it more than $ 750 per ton?
If not why not choose other suppliers of those international tender participants?
It seems, Sri Lanka is being dealt with a ‘SUCKER PUNCH’ by Qingdao Seawin Biotech Company (QSBC) of China for rejecting initial supply?”
Alternatively, this manoeuvre is to include commission payment! Subtle move Robber BARRONS!!

Some claim all sorts of bigotry.
Well each and every one of them has an inalienable right to their own opinion and express in this free world.
We as liberal minded ‘bigots or otherwise’ must exercise importantly, sufficient maturity of thought to accept, understand and embrace others’ thoughts as humans.
I would conclude by repeating the words of Prince Siddhartha, Gautama the Buddha, the most enlightened, for the benefit of all concerned, which I hold in very high esteem,

“Why look elsewhere for sewage and garbage when you have enough of it in your backyard?”

SJ hates India and his own Tamil people, or you can call him a self hating Tamil.
He loves China, he never compares this island with China or complains about it.
He is not alone, I am told there are many people like SJ.

He only observes what Hindians are doing in their country as well as in this island. China could do no wrong, hence he does not see, hear, read, speak about China’s (Communist Party) corruption.
(https://www.transparency.org/en/countries/china – This is another western ploy to undermine China)

He practices selective principles of three wise monkeys, namely Mizaru, Kikazaru,, Iwazaru, see no evil of China, hear no evil of China, speak no evil of China, …. He does not see Chinese intentions in port city, harbour projects, Hambantota project, Lakvijaya Power Station (Which barely operational a few days in a month), Matale airpor warehouse, ……………….

You just mention Mao’s name he gets up from his seat and bows his head.

One does not need crystal ball if one wants to see things as they are if one stops sitting on their brain. In some cases some people hallucinate merely hearing the words China and Mao, or Sirimao.

        SJ,
Why replicate India? Why not some other western country??

        • 1
          4

          M
I am not suggesting replication of anything. Mine was a response to a piece of bigotry which I had cited.
As for parliamentary elections, I have scant faith in them.
Regardless of country, elections make a substitute for democracy which only people with means can afford.

          • 3
            1

            (Part I)
            SJ,
            Good Morning.
“Regardless of country, elections make a substitute for democracy which only people with means can afford”
At the outset, let me congratulate you on the excellent espoused affordability of electioneering that is precluded to those righteous men and women of Sri Lanka even after 100 years of Universal Franchise (UF) in the country!
That was very important and my thanks to you in no small measure. Really, I mean it and greatly indebted for the opportunity created.
Whom do you hold responsible for that malaise?
Do you think this is done at the initiative of politicians or voters?
I would dare to wager and say it is the politicians!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ban this by amending the election law as the banning of transport!!
The means, includes the funds for, graft and bribing of voters with:
            1. SL Rupees 1000 notes 1 or 2 sometimes and areas may be up to 5
            2. ¼ bottle least of Liquor Gal arrack or Kassiya (god knows what?) until someone dies
            3. Parcel of Chicken Biryani bath for Lunch
            Approximate cost (average per electorate) = SL Rs (2000 + 250 + 350) X 16 Million/175
            = SL Rs. 36,400,000,000.00/175

            • 1
              2

              M
I only stated my point of view on the parliamentary electoral system.
I blame none for its malaise.
It is a system that has consistently failed the people be it the richest ‘democracy’ or the poorest.

          • 3
            1

            (Part II)
= SL Rs. 208,000.000.00 per electorate
Assumed that there are no duplicated gifts/grafts by opposing sides!
If they do not have this the cost of electioneering would drastically come down and affordable even for you and all to be contesting and look forward to be elected.
Additional saving incidentally, the common repetitive comment by MP’s selling their tax payer FREE permits is to meet forthcoming election cost or the one past!!!
These figures are astronomical to say the least and this happens with every new parliament and totally you could save billions if these MP’s are forced to use the official vehicle for 10 years at least.
            US $ 50,000 per piece and 225 would be US $ 11,500.000.00.
You can proudly tell Gota this saving and I am sure he would be very happy indeed with that!
That is the “possible” option, because we did in the 1960’s, and the entirety of the 70’s average life of vehicles in use was 25 to 20 years +, so why not for 10 years. Save hundreds of Billions of Rupees in foreign exchange and local taxes for the cars.
MP’s would have no excuse for this robbing illegality

          • 3
            1

            Part III
The voter maturity after almost a century is wanting, if you want ‘nice’ words to embrace!
Otherwise, do you think these so called enlightened with ‘Free education up to tertiary level’ would resort – sorry for wrong terminology – it should read as ‘accept’ it?
            The Bribe?
Then reciprocally encourage/atone reverse bribe taking by parliamentarians?!
If these citizenry, we perceive and so are they very upright and their integrity is unquestionable.
Could we not have someone educate them (Blame the government and private teachers not doing their job in making these people knowledgeable in making them to adhere to rectitude)
It is not too late, some one should put their foot down, and stop it!
You have 2/3 majority, then do not hesitate to legislate, “Just as the 20th Amendment and the other one”!
            If not why not??
That would establish maturity and rectitude in the first and primary instant for elected to replicate!!!

          Mahila

What SJ means is he is not suggesting replication of anything but wants the people of this island to build this country according to what Mao’s Red-book prescribes.
Follow (Chinese) Communist party hierarchy, do as what you are told to do, bring your own party flag, freeze all thought process, stop creative thinking, the leader will do it for you, …. don’t question corruption, nepotism, mistakes, ….. and don’t trust western media, …

Only solution is to split the island into 3 mono ethnic nations and relocation of people.

Until then the same misery will continue.

            SJ,
My experience in pulling strings has taught me that when you do that the silent vultures start to salivate and demand 15 to 25% as ‘Santhosam’ and as we have many in that calibre now awaiting the opportunity, I would desist. Nevertheless Thanks for your offer, whilst valuable, not enticed!!!!!!!!!!!!

              _
It does not stop there with Santhosam, but continues, when you are in a position you will be compel to favour the person who did a favour for you for a santhosam. Pulling strings does not stop there.

I pointed a way to surmount it.

You have proved what I stated about a certain group who arrived on the island a few centuries ago from South India, now in the name of religion, as well for perceived political, economic benefits disowning their own culture and heritage and claiming to be something else.

Poor little sole is quoting three clearly demarked states in comparison to 90% of the Rapist Army occupying North East. There trouble are communism, which is 100% failed in Langkang unlike these states. It is the Pakistan’s infiltration brought the fate to current Kashmir. Lankawe throne a Hitler for the whole country staging a fake Jihadi war. Indian constitution recognize existence the three states. Anywhere Saddampie goes, only something wrong wrong get into his hands. He doesn’t know the existence of Tamils Nadu. He doesn’t want to talk about Tamil Nadu comparing with Tamil Eelam. Because he knows Deva doesn’t go there for the one murder he committed there but after 100s of murders accused on him, he is minister in Hitler Aanduwa.

The author is turning a blind eye to some of the key factors for this supremacy as he calls it.. This supremacy is a result of many other supremacies that was before, which was Christian supremacy that derived Buddhism from its due place.. Even today the Christian fundamentalists of some sects are trying to undermine the foundation of both Buddhism and Hinduism of this country using subtle and vicious means which most Hindu and Buddhist are aware of.. Whenever these groups get their upper hand they will unleash their full power and go all out.. Then the Islamic extremists, that everyone know of.. These fellows have invaded key positions of the country and would unleash their power when the opportunity gets to them.. Hindus and Buddhists united in their efforts to stand up to these invasive, evangelist desert religions for a long time, which was undermined by the political divisions between the communities.. So in reality, if you want to simmer the sinhala Buddhist agitation for survival you have to remove the extremists from the minorities and allow them to integrate better with the majority.. In fact in 90s the Buddhist supremacy was much less compared to today, because Islamic integration to mainstream culture was better.. Even USA and Europe have been driven to supremacy ideals due to the Islamic extremism..

      Hi Sandman,
      Your reference,
“So in reality, if you want to simmer the Sinhala Buddhist agitation for survival you have to remove the extremists from the minorities and allow them to integrate better with the majority”
I have a few questions to clarify and understand.
      1. Simmer means, SEETHE, FESTER, BOIL etc.
      Why make it so?
Instead of resolving the issues and cooling down than evolve into a crisis?
      2. Allow the minorities to integrate with the majority!!!
Why not the other way around?
Majority extending a welcome hand and finding middle ground?
This attitude of “Minority integrating with the majority” and not vice versa is the reason this issue has snowballed to such an extreme of Himalayan proportions!!!!!!!!
Their should be reciprocity and not Majoritarian attitude of looking down on others!!!!!!!!!!!

So it is the Christians and Muslims that are at the centre of all trouble!

      Sandaman.

You appear to be an original thinker.
So,you are on a project to merge the Sinhala Buddhist with the Tamil Hindu eh? Of-course this has and had been happening over the centuries. But to do this you have to remove the bad eggs from both sides, not just from one side alone.

      By the way; Why did Dr.Colvin.R. de Silva give the foremost place to Buddhism in his masterpiece -The Republican Constitution of 1972;
Is it because he was simmering living down Abdul Gafoor Mawatha at Colpetty?

Good question though it is too late in the day for an answer, because Comrade Colvin is no more amongst us to validate.

“There is nothing more valuable as productive assets than a country’s people. The larger is their participation greater will be the gross national product and per capita income. It is not development that would remove evils of majoritarian tyranny as GR mistakenly assumes, but it is the removal of that tyranny that would guaranty development and prosperity. “

I wish Dr. Amir had expanded on this for at least two or more paragraphs. About 1.5M of high productive age permanently settled in the West as refuges of the tyranny. Another 600 to 800 temporarily hanging in ME as slaves. In Japan, Korea and Singapore another chunk is employed as low skill workers. The Rapist Army’s narcotic market has converted a large number of North East criminal Aavakuzhu and Paramilitary rowdies. It is not now that the majority of this local force cannot do any constructive production by lack of useful education & experience, they are sheer impediment for the rest. A classic example of this is: Yesterday a SLFP politician called a Northern Hospital Doctor and asked if she was that big to interfere into his illegal medical trade. The political party SLFP is going to defend that criminal but will not sack him.
