Elam Or Elaam: A Case For Promoting Nonviolent Chaos

By S. Ratnajeevan H. Hoole

Prof S. Ratnajeevan H. Hoole

Elaam: Everything, a little now, more later

As an undergraduate in the early 1970s, the call for Elam grew from the student movement against standardization. At the time an engineering professor caricatured this cry for securing all our lost rights as our asking for Elaam – meaning everything; a little now, more later.

Elaam is Projection of the Sinhalese State’s own Plans

Over the next 50 years now after the Eelam struggle of the students began, it should be apparent to all except the truly dense-minded, that this Elaam caricature is what psychologists call projection – projection on to others exactly what they intend and do.

The Sinhalese state is on the threshold of achieving Elaam. The Sinhalese language and Buddhism are down our throats. South Batticaloa, now called Amparai, is gone, dispossessed of Tamils. It occupies 4500 acres while the remainder of Batticaloa has only 2500 acres, according to Shanakiyan Rasmanickam, MP. Negombo to Puttalam is gone. Trinco is almost gone. Between 1827 and 1921 the Sinhalese made up less that 5% of the population. But now, Sinhalese have gone up in the period 1921 to 2012 from 10% to almost 30%, while Tamils have come down from 70% to just under 50%. Although the constitution declares that Tamil is the court language in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, a senior lawyer practising in Trinco says a Tamil judge currying favours from the communalist state, now entertains Petitions in Sinhalese and serves interim orders to Tamils in Sinhalese for not obeying which he would presumably dock them for contempt. The Trinco culture is now increasingly majoritarian Sinhalese. Tamil officials speak in Sinhalese to Tamil employees. Even at petrol sheds and Food City out of caution Tamils address us first in Sinhalese.

A good part of Vavuniya is gone. The Vavuniya Security Forces Commander got the Election Commission to transfer Tamil officers so that the elections could be rigged. Early this morning after church in Jaffna I saw a large tourist bus with Sinhalese parked where it is not allowed with loud and rude Sinhalese flaunting their money. Jaffna also will soon be part of Elaam.

The Police Assaulting those demonstrating for their confiscated lands

The most egregious flaunting of state power is through the Mahaweli scheme. In the 1980s, the army lined up Tamil villages in and around Mullaitivu, and shot many while the remaining ran away. Their lands have been fed Mahaveli  waters and given to the dregs of Sinhalese society. In all of the Northern province, 34,200 acres have been taken over. Mullaitivu District, says former Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, has a soldier for every 2 civilians. Of the Sri Lankan Army’s 7 regional headquarters, 5 are in the Northern Province, says Anuraddha Mittal, Executive Director of Oakland Institute, California. Twenty-three thousand Tamils from Jaffna alone still await resettlement, almost 14 years after the war.

Fourteen-thousand families were evicted by the army from Manal Aaru. Twenty-five-thousand acres were expropriated to settle Sinhalese to create the Sinhalese divisional Secretariat now called Weli Oya. It was the strategic link connecting the Tamils of the Northern and Eastern Provinces. That link is now broken.

K.S. Ratnavel, a Senior Attorney and Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Development says laws have been misapplied to pounce on Tamil villagers cultivating their lands for generations to grab their lands in the name of the Wildlife and Forest Departments claiming them to be reservations. State officials evict them and the poor villagers simply comply because resisting would lead to incarceration without bail! The villagers are terrorized. In Mullaitivu District alone, the Forest Department has expropriated 32,110 acres. The Wildlife Department expropriated 23,515 acres.

The Archaeological Department took over 202 acres. The government departments and army together have grabbed 100,000 acres in Mullaitivu whose total land amounts to 621,917 acres.

Justice Navaneethem Pillai, the former head of UNHCR, confirms that state and private lands have been expropriated. She expresses great concern over the Presidential Taskforce for Archaeological Heritage, its unapologetic Sinhalese Buddhist leanings and militarized tone, and its  being chaired by the defence secretary. She calls the Taskforce a new manifestation of a pre-existing strategy, that of using archaeology and historic preservation as guises for political agendas. The Department of Archaeology has recently intensified the process of expropriating land and intensified efforts to set up Buddhist temples in the North  and East under the guise of research and the preservation of ancient places. These are often close to or even next to Saivite temples says Anuraddha Mittal who gives the example of Kurunthoor Temple where with great fanfare, politicians and the army, constructed a Buddhist temple.

The participants were in masks, perhaps fearing that newly proposed hate-speech laws and the denigration of Buddhism through their acts might get them into trouble. Attorney Ratnavale is explicit that the Buddhist monks who took over thousands of acres of land containing Hindu places of worship like Kanniya are acting unabashedly and against the law, violating all norms of culture and tradition. When I visited the place near Trinco, I was aghast to see a young Sinhalese woman in white petticoat and blouse, washing herself in public at the hot water springs with her breasts spilling out of her blouse. I wanted to see if any of the worshippers would be attracted but my wife grabbed my arm and took me away. These people are a disgrace to Buddhism!

Army Competing with Impoverished Tamils

The army has more lands under its control than does the entire public in Mullaitivu, the most militarized district in Sri lanka. The army has 33 camps in areas around Mullaitivu.

According to Mr. Thurairajah Raviharan, a former member of the Northern Provincial Council, the army is into all kinds of business from running holiday resorts and restaurants to gardening on private lands to selling building stones, to running shopping complexes, to offering haircuts in barber saloons to making and selling curds and yoghurt.

Impoverished civilians cannot compete when the soldiers’ salaries come from the public purse and the lands used by the army are grabbed land. The Tamil people have no means of expanding their livelihoods in this unfair-competition environment where they need to buy land and hire labour.  They have no free labour. They cannot take other people’s land. The Tamil people are locked into poverty.

Raviharan adds that the many Tamil heritage sites like Hindu temples are taken over and Buddhist Temples built under the protection of the Army. He mentions Gnanasara Thero in particular for violating even court orders in doing do. Attorney Ratnavel, and Kandeepan Thangarajah, another Attorney, affirm this.

Mr. Sampanthan has testified as to how the police assist the rogues in saffron in defying the court order. I too have reported a Magistrate’s orders being trampled on and defied in the matter of the temple at Chemmalai where a Hindu temple was taken over by Gannasara Thero and friends to build a Buddhist Temple. The police did not serve the magisterial order even after I informed the IGP through the Election Commission on the eve of elections that trouble was bruing and likely to disrupt the elections. The IGP, promised to intervene, did nothing and is still the IGP, unlawfully punishing SSP Shani Abeysekere and Director Preventive Customs Ranjan Kanagasabai.

The Mahaweli Scheme is a big culprit in taking Tamil lands for the use of Sinhalese, says Mr. Sampanthan who acknowledgedly is the leader of the Ceylon Tamils. Statistics from Rasamanickam, who is mentioned often as a suitable future leader of the TNA, says of those settled under Mahaweli, that 103,630 (96.2%) are Sinhalese while in contrast, 1,825 families (1.4%) are Tamils and 3,068 families (2.4%) are Muslims.

The southern press has a lot of the blame to take. For example, consider the massive protest march against the Mahaweli Scheme in Aug. 2018. Although a regular reader of reputable newspapers, I do not recall any report on the march except in Colombo Telegraph. The press, it seems, is in league with Sinhalese racism, and will not expose any of this. It is my experience that when I write on excesses of the state like corruption, some newspapers are eager to publish. However, when I write on Sinhalese excesses against Tamils, the editors plead lack of space.

The Army: The Biggest Enemy

It should be obvious to many that the Army is the biggest enemy of the people of Sri Lanka, and is responsible for many massacres in our midst, whether of Sinhalese youth or Tamil youth. Those in power are reluctant to bring the army down a peg or two as they deserve. This undermines democracy when the government acts in fear of the armed forces. Yet, the armed forces received the biggest chunk of the 2023 budget. The TNA did not vote against the budget giving so much to the true enemy of the Tamil people and indeed of all Sri Lankans.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M. A. Sumanthiran explained that  though his party was critical of the budget, it chose not to vote against it since President Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed willingness to resolve the political question of Tamils (Daily Mirror, 23.11.2022).

Then Ranil Wickremesinghe did his about turn putting a knife in the Tamil belly. As the Daily Mirror reported (30.11.2022) “he is ready to reintroduce District Development Councils in place of Provincial Councils.” As always, we were cheated. The District Councils are something that JR and his UNP Goons gave us in 1981 and then their gory thug-MPs came to Jaffna and tried to rig the election, unleashing much violence.

As the Sinhalese State pursues Elaam, a little today and a little tomorrow, every delay means reduced options for the Tamils. JR once was ready to give us the Jaffna Peninsula. Since then we have lost Article 29 of the Donoughmore Constitution. We also seem to have effectively lost the 13th Amendment. Today it is attractive compared to the trash we have in the present constitution. Chandrika’s 2000 Constitution which many of us were against, now seems a dream-come-true if we got it. Now the TNA has again been fooled. No Tamil except for the stooges who are already with the government would accept District Councils. But time is against us.

No Rule of Law

With no rule of law in Sri Lanka, Tamils will get nothing. So what Nagananda Kodutuwakku says of the state of the law in his mail to me is true: “When the Rule of law fails, everything else is bound to fail.”

He says, “In any democracy the supreme authority is the people who enjoy sovereignty over all organs of the government. And there is a bounden duty cast on the judiciary that exercises the people’s judicial power purely on trust strictly according to law, being a faithful and fearless watchdog of the people.” This however cannot  be realised if the judges are dishonest and deliberately do not record all court proceedings.” But court records are incomplete and even locked up in chambers he says.

Promoting Nonviolent Chaos

In these circumstances, Tamils will get nothing. The Sinhalese state wants Elaam.

Days after the Ranil’s bomb under the TNA chair, Mr. Sampanthan in an interview with Frontline’s R.K. Radhakrishnan, says “We cannot go on like this.” He adds that “as far as Sinhala politicians are concerned, whichever political party they belong to, they are primarily concerned about gaining the support of the Sinhala people on the basis of an anti-Tamil stand. (Reproduced in The Island, 03.12.2022).

If we cannot go on like this, and I agree, why go on like this? Why go to Parliament? We do enjoy the braver members of ours making exposes in parliament. We cheer and say great job. In glee we pass around their speeches. But these speeches take us nowhere.

This is a time when the state is in penury. Whether they get the IMF loan and renewed GSP-Plus will depend a lot on how the government addresses the human rights issues. The best time the Tamils’ voice was heard was the time of the Satyagraha. This is again the time for noncooperation.

Our MPs must give up their seats. No more MPs. A few quislings will contest and get into parliament with 10 votes (or more without the LTTE) like they did before. But they will not be our  true representatives. The MPs can make a token presence but not participate in government. Let public servants go to work and draw their salaries. But the public can keep away from government offices.

Let there be nonviolent chaos. It will force the government and the lenders to resolve the issues. Talking to the government only helps the government say untruthfully that they are trying to solve the issue with no intention of giving up on “Elaam a little by little.”

Acknowledgement: I have used material from the documentary Thaainilam: Land Grabbing – the Real Pandemic for the Tamils in Sri Lanka by Someetharan, after verifying the data there from my own documents and sources that work closely with me. I recommend the almost hour-long movie as a must watch, especially for good-hearted Sinhalese.

If RW really talked about reintroducing the DDCs, it is really outrageous. The time is ripe for non-violent agitation and to raise hell.

      Dear Prof. Hoole,
      .
In fact, most of them are not real public representatives. This is common to all MPs. They are elected by the fraudulent culture promoted by the fraudulent media networks.

Media is the main cancer of this nation.
      .
The people of this country are making eternal fools to get those evil politicians elected by hook or by crook.

      A rather complex proposition though!

    Ratnajeevan, reading this, I despair.
There is no hope for this country. We seem to be going deeper & deeper into the mire. No wonder the young & talented are fleeing. But what of those who cant? Where can they turn?

“After the Budget, after the Budget,” says Ranil. For god’s sake, man, show some real concern about the issues laid out in a report like this! Just keeping the lid on things by piling on the Army isnt going to work for ever. Sooner or later, another civil war seems inevitable.

      MF,
It sounds promising, but how many times has it been discussed in Parliament since then?
CBK’s days federal proposals were discussed the most. However, the parliament did not allow anything to be passed due to the dominance of the mlechcha people.

The truth is that the majority of the nation is full of born criminals. Races, religions, whatever, they are not serious enough either.
      :
Today’s news makers and news planters choose only the “ideal tag line” to get their “likes” through social media. Sepal Amarasinghe, Apple Kade Nuwan, Suda Creation have made them wealthy in between…. DUKA is being promoted as LTTErs promoted ” the civil war” to achieve their selfish gains.

Then it causes the ignorant average to easily mislead the nation.

This is how stupidity crept into India by their fuhrer ” MODI”. . “Mahindrajapakshasim and Vimalveeravanism” did the same in our hell, but God made it like a miracle for the Europeans.

Thank you Prof Hoole for the accurate and well-written article. I sincerely hope that the TNA and other Tamil political parties insist on full federalism for the northeast, with full land and police power, with the Sinhalese occupying military reduced to a minimum and confined to the barracks, with all confiscated lands returned to the Tamils, and do not agree to village and district development councils, the Sinhalese politicians and this president is trying to reintroduce, which in effect is not to grant the Tamils anything but just to fool the world, IMF and the UN. The vast majority of the Sinhalese will not want to give any rights to the island’s Tamils unless they are forced to, despite the fact that their racist Sinhalese Buddhist Fascist policies from the time of independence, have ruined and bankrupted the country. They tried to and still are trying to have Elaam ( everything) using the state’s resources and the armed forces and deny the island’s Tamils even their own existence as a people, their lands, history and language but in pursuit of this have not only impoverished the once prosperous Tamils but themselves too. Reading what you wrote made me despair.

A few days after inviting the Tamil parties for talks on the problems affecting the Tamils of Sri Lanka, President Ranil Wickremasinghe announced that the parties should not impose any preconditions to attend the talks. Right away it struck me that he was getting ready to offer nothing more than the same old wine (District Development Councils) in a new bottle! Just around this time, ex-president Maithripala Sirisena also suggested that introduction of the DDCs would be an effective way to find a solution.

One thing is very clear. No Sinhalese leader, whether semiliterate or highly educated, is prepared to offer anything more than the ineffective District Development Councils as a means of sharing power with the Tamils. Therefore, the only option available to the suffering Tamils is to withhold cooperation in all spheres and drag the whole country down so that everyone will suffer equally!

“Therefore, the only option available to the suffering Tamils is to withhold cooperation in all spheres and drag the whole country down so that everyone will suffer equally!”

Isn’t the effective way of causing heightened level of paranoia among the 6.9 million?
Even JVP and FSA do not understand the idea of Federalism.
Ranil understands it but unable or unwilling to do something about it.

Do we have any treatment or cure for paranoia?

You should ask leader of doomsayers, the weeping Weerasekera, the prince of darknes, ….. the meaning of Federalism, let us see if he understood the idea of federalism.

When will these largely racist Sinhalese, realize, that by trying to drag the Tamil people down and destroy them, steal their lands, and history and deny them everything, what have they achieved? The answer is they have destroyed themselves and made the country a basket case. Still, they persist want to deny the Tamils their rights and their homeland but try to fool the world, as usual pretending to reconcile but look, at what they want to offer useless village-level councils and some toothless district development councils, basically nothing, so that they can fool the world whilst destroying the Tamils. All Tamil leaders and parties now at least should unite and demand full federalism to the combined north and east, the ancient Tamil homeland, that has been existing for the past 2000 years. Nothing less. Tamils and Saivaism have a far older history on the island, than Sinhalese and Buddhism and had their homeland and kingdoms, until the British amalgamated our homelands with the Sinhalese areas in 1833 and made the Tamils who were a 100% majority in their own areas a minority on the island and the Sinhalese who were confined to the south a majority on the whole island and gave power to them in 1948.

Tamils deserve far better and are entitled to self-rule and self-determination, not structural genocide, being victims of war crimes and destruction by the Sinhalese-only Buddhist state. If the racist Sinhalese people and their equally racist leaders do not want to grant this, and justice to the Tamils, their leaders and their parties should not cooperate at all and bring down the whole country, so that everyone should suffer, the Sinhalese and the opportunistic fake Arab South Indian Tamil origin Sri Lankan Muslims. Ultimately no one other than China and other human rights-abusing countries may only help this racist human rights-abusing bankrupt state and make it a vassal state. Tamils are going to go down and let them take these racists and opportunists down with them in the sinking ship, that started to sink because of these racists and opportunists. Either give federalism and just rights to the Tamils, respect merit and human rights to all and prosper or continue with your opportunistic racist Sinhalese Buddhist-only Fascist policies and human rights abuses, trying to fool the world and sink. Decide what you want.

Thamizh people did not sacrifice, suffer so much and face structural genocide, and war crimes and still are facing these at the hands of the Sri Lankan state, the Chingkallams and Thullkans, where more than 300000 of them were deliberately killed largely by the Sri Lankan state, their population almost halved from the time of independence, by making one-half stateless, soon after independence and chasing around 40% of the indigenous Thamizh out of the island. We endured and suffered a 30-year-old war, all because of state-sponsored Chingkalla Buddhist racism and then suffered so much after 2009, not be granted some stupid toothless district development councils, that were rejected over 30 years ago by all Thamizh parties.

  • 11
    2

We want full federalism for the north and east where we want to decide our fate and want this racist occupying Chingkalla armed forces, that is there only to torment and suppress the Thamizh in these areas and to help Chingkalla Buddhist extremists to seal our lands. Proves 99% of the Chingkallams and their racist elite, leaders and clergy have not learnt anything and are still racist to the core, not wanting to grant the Thamizh any sort of justice or rights but only pretend to further suppress and destroy them, which has been their aim from independence, even if the country goes to the dogs and they suffer too.

Not only sinhala racists but also tamil racists should br made accountable for not being able to build up consents on this long extending issue in this country.
But I have a hope when thinking about honorable Mp Sumanthiran. In the same time the mischievous Shan Rasaputhram could destroy all what Mr Sumanthiran is making.

Correct, however, Tamil racists or hardliners have never been in power and have not ruled or are unable to make any decisions. They can only shout and their shouting has not affected anyone. On the other hand from the time of independence, it is the Sinhalese racists, hardliners, opportunists and Fascists, who have been ruling the island, making decisions, laws and influencing the majority community opinion and this has adversely affected all Tamil speakers, especially the indigenous Tamils from the north and east. Tamil racists or hardliners have not caused large-scale hardship, ethnic cleansing or structural genocide and war crimes on the Sinhalese but the Sinhalese state, racists, Fascists, hardliners and politicians have done this, as they are able to do so and create enormous havoc not only on the lives of the Tamils but also on everyone else, which they have done. Lastly, Tamil racism and hardline came as a by-product of state-sponsored Sinhalese racism. The other major difference no Tamil racist or hardliner advocates the destruction of the Sinhalese people, large-scale killing of Sinhalese their language, and culture or taking over their lands. On the other hand, all Sinhalese racists and hardliners do and this is dangerous, as most of them are government ministers, have been presidents, members of the armed forces/police very high up and even in government taking decisions.

Probably the Ghosts of S J V Chelvanayakam and others who died demanding Federal State since 1956.

“Are you now the self-appointed sole representative of the Tamil speaking people?”

Will you deal only with sole representative of the Tamil speaking people?
Well you know it is impossible to expect Velupillali Prabaharan to be reborn to represent the Tamil speaking people.

Request for Federalism is nothing new. It was SJV Chelvanayakam rightly demanded a federal Constitution in 1949 to safeguard the Tamil language, Land and prevent state-aided Colonization of the Tamil Homeland with the Sinhalese to change the texture of the population. If the request was adhered to, today, Srilanka will not be in this unfortunate plight. Better late than never. It should not be too little too late as Jinnah said when Pakistan was divided. In December 1947 Jawaharlal Nehru wrote to one of his State Ministers -‘I have some knowledge of the way the Nazi movement developed in Germany. It attracted by its superficial trappings and strict discipline considerable numbers of lower middle class young men and women who are normally not too intelligent and for whom life appeared to offer little to attract them. And so they drifted towards the Nazi party because its policy and programme, such as they were, were simple, negative and did not require an active effort of the mind. The Nazi party brought Germany to ruin and I have little doubt that if these tendencies are allowed to spread and increase in India, they would do enormous injury to India. No doubt India would survive. But she would be grievously wounded and would take a long time to recover.’
    .
Just replace the Nazi party with the Tamil LTTE. The Tamil leaders will bring more ruination to the Tamil people than the LTTE did. They tried their best but it wasn’t enough.

Oh, give it a rest, we all know your views and anti-Tamil hatred, from all your previous postings. Has a fake Scandinavian name, and has run away to some western land for the good life and all the opportunities offered but want racism, structural genocide and the destruction of the island’s Tamils back home. Constantly posts anti-Tamil garbage and propaganda. The only racist Nazis who ruled the island are the Sinhalese leaders and politicians, led by a most un Buddhist clergy. Gotler was the worst but I presume you are his hero. Their doctrine is a racist Ethno-centric ideology Sinhala Buddhism( not actual Buddhism) and their bible is the Mahavama, which is a mixture of fairy tales, and historical narrative of what happened in the south of the island and full of anti-Tamil bias and hatred but even this book admits that the north and east of the island is Tamil land, but modern Sinhalese Buddhist Fascists deny this truth and fact and want to convert the entire island to a Sinhalese Buddhist ghetto.

Nationalism is a sick ideology, be it Tamil or Sinhalese.

Even as we fight the backtracking on the 13th amendment, which is already part of the law, and the stated commitment to India and the Co-Chairs to go beyond the 13th, there are other issues that need some focus as well.

A relative who lives in Colombo is involved in the Brahma Kumari sect of Hinduism. She is fluent in all 3 languages and goes to the sect’s meditation centers in Galle, Kurunegala, etc., to give speeches on meditation, etc. She says she meets many Tamils from these areas who feel pressured to suppress their Tamil identity and speak only in Sinhala. This will require an adequate, survivable ecosystem for Tamil speakers to retain their identity outside the North-East. This might mean fighting for sufficient resources for Tamil medium schools, local temples or community centers, collaboration with the Tamil-speaking Muslim population, etc. Many of the problems are easily solvable if the Sinhalese politicians have the will to do so, and the Tamil politicians show some creativity and broader focus.

So the answer is with the BKs.
Is not the BK system anti-sex as well?

Sorry A, so it is your BK relative lady who has the answers.
Will she choose the council of experts you have in mind?

Any more perils of wisdom from that quarter?
Tell me why you sound so senile despite your apparent youth (compared to good ol’ me)?

This piece exposes the diabolical plot executed by successive Sinhalese governments, after independence in 1948, to colonize the east to effect a sea change in the demographics of both the North and the East.
As rightly pointed out today, Tamils in the Amparai district have been reduced to minority status (17%) through the Gal Oya colonization launched by D S Senanayake the first prime minister of independent Ceylon. As for Trincomalee, the Tamils have been relegated to second place through systemic planned Sinhala colonization. Tamils in Trincomalee Tamils have been reduced to a minority. Out of a total population of 378.182 (2012), Tamils constitute 122,080 (32.29%), Muslims 152,854 (40.42%) and Sinhalese 101,991 (26.97%).
In 1881 the figures were Tamils 14,304 (64.44%) Muslims 5,746 (25.89%) and Sinhalese 935 (4.21%) respectively. There is a dramatic increase in the Sinhalese population from 4.21 % to 26.97% thanks to the Sinhalese colonization of Allai – Kantalai, Pathavia and numerous other colonization schemes throughout the district. Planned colonization resulted in drastic changes to demography a well-planned cultural genocide. It is similar to the annexation of Palestinian lands to build housing settlements for Jewish people.
Out of 22 Army divisions, 16 are stationed in the North and 2 in the East. The occupation of Sinhala – the Buddhist army humiliates hapless Tamils by constructing Viharas and planting Buddhist statues of Buddha all over, At the latest count, the figure is over 100 viharas/statues.

Why could not the FP encourage the landless predominantly Dalit Tamils to settle in the East?

In the current budget President Wickremesinghe, who is also the defence minister, allocated 539 billion rupees for both defence and public security while allocating 322 billion rupees for health and 232 billion for education. The Army has become the elephant in the room, that is, a very large issue that everyone is acutely aware of, but nobody wants to do anything about it.
The army constitutes over 210,000 personnel in a country with 21 million people and no enemy in sight, in addition to 86,000 Police and the 5,850 Special Task Force (STF) that operates under the police. Despite the presence of overwhelming presence of security forces, the North has become a hub for drug smuggling and drug use. Obviously, there is a nexus between the drug smugglers and the army. No wonder the army’s top brasses have become billionaires because of corruption at all levels.
The burning of homes, shops and places of worship belonging to Tamils by Sinhala thugs and hooligans in 1956, 1958, 1977, 1979, 1981 and 1983 riots destroyed their economy along with the country’s economy. The ordinary Sinhalese people have been brainwashed to believe, that their prosperity depends on destroying Tamils’ economy.
