Every Sri Lankan Should Be A Jihadi

By Muhammed Fazl

Muhammed Fazl

Be they political leaders or men in robes, if a non-believer understands it as a concept of terror, then it would only expose their ignorance and fear of the fastest growing religion in the world. Considering the recent events, my attitude arising from my steadfastness in my Islamic faith would be far more harmless compared to the lethal tactics of the ruling class and their politicized armed forces using monks in suppressing my right to practice my faith in this isle where I was born!

To begin with, it was NEVER an issue of a clash of religions in this country. In the past, losing Buddhist adherents to other faiths never created any problems to any community nor did Lord Buddha prohibit his disciples from believing in another scripture in any of his teachings. And it makes me wonder why the present day ‘flag bearers’ of Buddhism force the noble teachings on people and admonish them when they become non-believers. With no spiritual or divine figure to hold its adherents accountable for their actions, I question the authority of existing high priests and the validity of their judgments when they themselves are held hostage by a gang of thieving and a murderous kind. My observation originates from the deafening silence of the Maha Sangha on the present state of affairs of this country when it is seen as all but right even by a blind man.

Muslim JWhile it is no secret that high priests do enjoy a cushy and luxurious lifestyle, the blind followers need to do a lot of soul searching when the ‘most venerable’ of Buddhism are allowed to act on the contrary to the basic teachings of Lord Buddha. In this context, one should be able to question the decisions of misguided Buddhist monks seeking leadership positions amongst the ignorant faithful. Failure to do so would erode centuries old noble practices and possibly the faith itself may face a gradual extinction as well.

Taking into account the current murder rates, rape cases, hatred levels, extortion, theft, alcoholism, lawlessness and intolerance among others, bitter pill it may be to some, but the failure of Buddhism as a state religion in this country can no longer be ignored. And so an irony it becomes when men in saffron-colored robes interfere with the teaching of other faiths and its followers, especially that of Islam and Muslims.

Being a Muslim and living in a country where a state religion exists only by name, I seriously question the compromising attitudes of leaders of minority religions when they try appeasing ‘suited-for-times sentiments’ of the majority community. Also when worship of idols, trees and ritualistic/pagan practices are construed as religiousness as against following and living by the beautiful teachings of Lord Buddha, one need not be surprised with the turn of events in the last century in the history of Sri Lanka.

Considering the present mentality and the ignorance of the majority community, it is my firm belief that Muslims in Sri Lanka should not deviate from their centuries-old practice and beliefs and should stay steadfast so as to be exemplary to the misguided lot. Hence, the call for every Muslims to take up the cause of a jihadi. As for the definition of the Arabic word, it can be interpreted as an exertion of our best efforts in our inner struggle for what is right and to fight evil and injustice. Talking of injustice and living under a despotic political culture, the Sinhalese Buddhist majority embracing the Jihadi concept might also just be the need of the hour!

Aratai, you have to ask him about this fastest growing terror group called Islam if he can dispute the following. I have given the Quran number for anyone to refer.

And slay them wherever ye catch them..” (2:191).

But if they turn away, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks.” (4:89).

      • Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them(2:191)

      • Make war on the infidels living in your neighboorhood (9:123)

      • When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them (9:5)

      • Kill the Jews and the Christians if they do not convert to Islam or refuse to pay Jizya tax (9:29)

      • Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable (3:85)

      • The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them (9:30)

      • Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticise Islam. (5:33)

      • The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque (9:28)

      • Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies (22:19)

      • Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them (47:4)

      • The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them (8:65)

      • Muslims must not take the infidels as friends (3:28)

      • Terrorise and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an (8:12)

      • Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorise the infidels (8:60)

Many like Fazl have claimed that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. As proof, they usually present unverifiable claims and baseless media quotes. So let’s take a look at facts and figures:

        Africa
Muslims previously outnumbered Christians in sub-Saharan Africa. However, a study published in April 2010 by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life has found that Christians now outnumber Muslims by 2 to 1 making Islam a minority belief.
The number of adherents to Christianity in sub-Saharan Africa grew from fewer than 9 million in 1910 to 516 million today, a 60-fold increase eclipsing the growth of Islam.

        America
Contrary to what is often claimed, Islam is not the fastest growing religion in the United States Here are the available facts:
The ARIS polls 1990 and 2000 show that the percent of change for Islam was +109%. The percent of change for Nonreligious/Secular (+110%), Native American Religion (+119%), Buddhism (+170%), Baha’i (+200%), Hinduism (+237%), New Age (+240%), Sikhism (+338%) and Deism (+717%) were all higher.
The American Religious Identification Survey gave Non-Religious groups the largest gain in terms of absolute numbers – 14,300,000 (8.4% of the population) to 29,400,000 (14.1% of the population) for the period 1990 to 2001 in the USA. Also, Americans with no religion were the fastest growing segment from 2001 to 2008.

According to the Cultural Orientation Resource Center, 60% of all refugees admitted into the United States are from Muslim-majority countries. Likewise, a Pew report published in January 2011 found that “About two-thirds of the Muslims in the U.S. today (64.5%) are first-generation immigrants (foreign-born)”. Contrary to the often-quoted figures provided by CAIR and in spite of the massive influx of Muslim refugees, a Pew survey carried-out in October 2009 found the estimate for the total Muslim population of the U.S to be at only 2.454 million.[15] Percentage-wise, Islam represents only 0.8 percent of the United States’ religious make-up. About a third of what had previously been claimed and widely accepted by many apoligists and media outlets.According to research carried out by the respected Pakistani-born American Muslim Dr. Ilyas Ba-Yunus (1932 – 2007), 75% of new Muslim converts in the US leave Islam within a few years.
According to Ahmed Nassef, the co-founder and editor in chief of MuslimWakeUp.com, less than 7 percent of American Muslims attend mosque regularly, compared with 38 percent of American Christians who attend church weekly.

        China
Islam and Christianity both entered China during the 7th century, and unreferenced claims have been made of around 100 million Muslims in China. However, most reliable estimates put the figures at 20 to 30 million Muslims (1.5% to 2% of the population).
Similarly, some Christian organizations have claimed up to 130 million Christians in China. However, most reliable estimates range from 40 million (3% of the total population) to 54 million (4%),meaning the growth of Christianity in China is almost double that of Islam.

        Europe
A United Nations’ survey showed that between 1989 and 1998, Europe’s Muslim population grew by more than 100 percent, due mainly to the effects of immigration from Muslim countries. Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance have an unsourced claim of 2.9 percent per year. And according to a Pew report published in January 2011, the future growth of Islam in Europe will be “driven primarily by continued migration.
According to data from the extensive 2010 European Social Survey (ESS), Muslims immigrants who have lived less than a year in Europe regularly go to the mosque. But after they have lived more than a year in their new homeland, the figure drops to 48.8%. More than half rarely or never go to the mosque to pray.
In the Netherlands, mosque attendance is actually dropping faster than church attendance. In 1998, 47 percent of Muslims would attend mosque at least once a month. This figure fell by 12 percent in 2008 to only 35 percent. Whilst church attendance for Catholics fell by only 8 percent, and church attendance amongst Protestants showed no change, remaining at 63 percent.
        United Kingdom
It has been estimated that during 2001 – 2011, about 100,000 people converted to Islam in the United Kingdom but 75 percent of these converts quickly left Islam, during this period. On the whole, there are about 200,000 apostates from Islam living in the UK, doubling the number that have converted.
Similarly to the rest of Europe, the growth of Islam in the UK is primarily due to higher birthrates among Muslims (27 percent of Muslim families have three or more dependent children, compared with 14 percent of Sikh, 8 percent of Hindu, and 7 percent of Christian families)[32] and immigration (54 percent of all UK Muslims are foreign born).
A NOP poll of British Muslims commissioned by Channel 4 also found that 48% of Muslims never attend a mosque, with another 6% only attending for special occasions.

        Russia
There is a wide spread belief that there are around 20 million Russian Muslims and that vast amounts of Russians are converting to Islam. However, there are only about 7 to 9 million Muslims in Russia, and less than 3,000 ethnic Russians have converted to Islam within the last fifteen years.
For the same period almost 2 million ethnic Muslims have become Orthodox Christians. Over 400 Russian Orthodox clergy belong to traditionally Muslim ethnic groups, 20 percent of Tatars are Christian, and 70 percent of interfaith marriages result in the Muslim spouse conversion to Christianity.

ISLAM IS NOT THE FASTEST GROWING RELIGION IN THE WOLD BUT THE MOST DETESTED AND SCORNED JOKE PLAYED BY MUSLIMS ON MUSLIMS.

With all due respect to your cooked-up statistics prepared by vested interests… I sure wish I had the time to dispute the above figures. But let me just tell you that Muslims and Jews are more true to their religion as a whole compared to Buddhists, Christians and Hindus… Besides it is not just the numbers game. It is also the level of piousness and righteousness… something which I rarely see amongst the majority community in Sri Lanka.

A good summary of the Moslem mind. The Lankan Sinhalese should take note. Virtually every Lankan Moslem is a Jihadi in waiting, so use the most lethal and annihilating firepower the moment they start raising their ugly Jihadi heads and wipe them off the face of the island.

    Dear Muhammed Fazl –

RE: Every Sri Lankan Should Be A Jihadi?

Jihad means “to struggle in the way of Allah”, God.

Every Sri Lankan Should Be A Barbarian!

Many Sri Lankan Sinhala Buddhists are Barbarians! They have no shame, and they lie.

Why?. Because if there were no Muslims, the Para-Sinhala Buddhists would pick on Hindu Tamils,Tamil Buddhists, Hindu Christians, Sinhala Christians and Hindu Sinhala, if you can find any. So, the problem is NBOT with the Muslims, It is with the para-Sinhala Buddhists who believe in the lies and imaginations of Para-monk Mahanama. Test their DNA,

Let’s see what the Facts are.

” then it would only expose their ignorance and fear of the fastest growing religion in the world. “

Some scholars maintain non-violent ways to struggle against the enemies of Islam. An example of this is written debate, often characterized as “jihad of the pen”.[15]

    Q. What was the Original Meaning of Jihad?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jihad

Jihad (English pronunciation: /dʒɪˈhɑːd/; Arabic: جهاد‎ ǧihād [dʒiˈhæːd]), an Islamic term, is a religious duty of Muslims. In Arabic, the word jihād translates as a noun meaning “struggle”. The word jihad appears in 23 Quranic verses.[1] Within the context of the classical Islam, particularly the Shiahs beliefs, it refers to struggle against those who do not believe in the Abrahamic God (Allah).[2] However, the word has even wider implications.

Jihad means “to struggle in the way of Allah”. Jihad appears 41 times in the Quran and frequently in the idiomatic expression “striving in the way of God (al-jihad fi sabil Allah)”.[3][4][5] A person engaged in jihad is called a mujahid; the plural is mujahideen. Jihad is an important religious duty for Muslims. A minority among the Sunni scholars sometimes refer to this duty as the sixth pillar of Islam, though it occupies no such official status.[6] In Twelver Shi’a Islam, however, Jihad is one of the 10 Practices of the Religion. Ahmadi Muslims consider only defensive jihad to be permissible while rejecting offensive jihad.

There are two commonly accepted meanings of jihad: an inner spiritual struggle and an outer physical struggle.[3] The “greater jihad” is the inner struggle by a believer to fulfill his religious duties.[3][7] This non-violent meaning is stressed by both Muslim[8] and non-Muslim[9] authors. However, there is consensus amongst Islamic scholars that the concept of jihad will always include armed struggle against persecution and oppression.[10]

The “lesser jihad” is the physical struggle against the enemies of Islam.[3] This physical struggle can take a violent form or a non-violent form. The proponents of the violent form translate jihad as “holy war”,[11][12] although some Islamic studies scholars disagree.[13] The Dictionary of Islam[3] and British-American orientalist Bernard Lewis both argue jihad has a military meaning in the large majority of cases.[14] Some scholars maintain non-violent ways to struggle against the enemies of Islam. An example of this is written debate, often characterized as “jihad of the pen”.[15]

According to the BBC, a third meaning of jihad is the struggle to build a good society.[7] In a commentary of the hadith Sahih Muslim, entitled al-Minhaj, the medieval Islamic scholar Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi stated that “one of the collective duties of the community as a whole (fard kifaya) is to lodge a valid protest, to solve problems of religion, to have knowledge of Divine Law, to command what is right and forbid wrong conduct”.[16]

Well, for one the fastest growing religion Christianity. Islam is the second fastest and I not sure if Im up for any kind of Jihad.

There are many flaws among alleged followers of Buddhism. Although thankfully its something Buddhists themselves acknowledge and trying to find a redress.

The deafening silence of the Maha Sanga is indeed strange. Although I would be surprised if machinations are taking place without much fanfare.

The flaws exist after a 30 year conflict which any other comparable country would have perhaps Balkanised and failed many times over.

Although despite the flaws, its economically the best performing state in the region. It scores high in education and health indicators compared to India, Pakistan etc so one needs to look at the half full glass.

Buddhism is identified as a religion of peace, tolerance and compassion. It does not seek to convert others. It has always maintained a good name throughout history for these features. Since the mid-1950s local Buddhism showed signs of violence when some of its adherents left the Noble Path and moved towards political power. Similar instances were seen in Thailand, Burma, Vietnam and Korea from the 1960s onwards. In recent times Lankan Buddhism earned for itself an unenviable reputation as violent, politically-inclined and power hungry. The response of the Buddhists is they are reacting to the dangers of other religions that are out to subvert Buddhism by now well known insidious means.

I agree. This applies to the Muslim community as well where almost all of them are peaceful and against extremists within them. It is up to the Sinhala people and the Govt to re-assure
Muslims all over the country they are safe and will be protected
24×7 by the Police and the armed forces. Muslims today live in great fear, which is a slur on all of us. We must hold ourselves responsible for this and ensure our Muslim brethren regain their peace and confidence.

With no spiritual or divine figure to ….hold its adherents accountable for their actions,
So is the divine figure asleep when all this carnage is going on in the middle east, with so called Muslims killing each other in the name of this divine figure?

You have to grow up and take responsibility for your actions, rather than leave it to the divine figure. The “Mahanayakas” are NOT mullahs or Ayatollahs who control people. Each Buddhist, or Buddhist monk, bears his own responsibility and acts according to his own volition and understanding. Buddhism is not a control religion like Islam. Even the
control religion has failed very badly to exercise control over its adherents in the middle-east who are behaving like thugs and brutalizing each other, and also keeping women like slaves, and treating their camels much better.

The Divine figure is said to have created this world, and what a mess he has made of it. If he created it, he should take the blame for it and we need to recognize that there is nothing divine about him – he is a devil

“According to Wikipedia, the fastest growing religion in the world is Islam. I would have thought it was Christianity. Alas it is not so.”

It is not Islam. But if you look at the major religions,Islam has the highest growth rate. Why? The people are uneducated, have large families, and the Mullah want to keep it that way. Probably close to 35% of those who follow Islam are illiterate, courtesy the Mullahs and Ulema.

Fazl, you must excuse free thinking people for having their judgments of religion clouded by those extremists of every religion who hijack noble principles for devious designs. We are creatures of circumstance and most people adopt the religion they were born into – most haven’t a bloody clue as to the true principles of the faiths they profess and just follow blindly. The most vulnerable and impressionable are preyed upon by extremists, with their crusades, their jihads, their missions, their zions, et al. These extremist leaders just piss people off. They are simply looking for avenues to power. A world full of mono religious fanatics would be hell on earth. I wouldn’t be surprised if the God’s that be are fed up of way the religions they created have been hijacked by warped minds with ulterior motives.

      Spring Koha,

      Excellent summary.

“Religion is the opium of the masses”- Karl Marx.

“To make good people to do bad things, it takes religion”- Steven Weinberg, Nobel Physics.

Atheists and Agnostics do not go and attack Mosques the way Sinhala Buddhists in Sri Lanka do, Churches the way Sinhala Buddhists in Sri Lanka do, Shio Mosques and Sufi Mosques the way Wahhabis do, etc, Mosques the way Christians do, etc.

So, the religious people are Barbarians. Sinhala Buddhists, Wahhabi, Christian fundamentalists and Hindu Fundamentalists.

Agnostics, Atheists and Animists are civilized people.

[As for the definition of the Arabic word, it can be interpreted as an exertion of our best efforts in our inner struggle for what is right and to fight evil and injustice.]

This is indeed a cause for concern. Trouble is the inner struggle is allowed to release into outward aggression in Islam, and that include killing, if it need be.

Fazl, don’t interpret that inner struggle you and your people have with the Sinhala people merely within the closed illusion of the 10% of your people in Sri Lanka. Your people are living in an ancient nation with a long and strong historical heritage and religion. You should be intermingling and blending in with the 80% majority race, and contributing love towards their welfare. You cannot be zooming ahead with your oil money, closing yourselves in, and yet outwardly showing yourselves to be so vastly different from the struggling masses. Then, instead of understanding this poor majority, you will preach jihad to make sure they will dare not interfere with your cozy lifestyle.

‘You should be intermingling and blending in with the 80% majority race, and contributing love towards their welfare’. Yes, that was what was happening all along, and thus have survived together for so long, until BBS goons came along and muddied the pit. Why don’t you in the same breath condemn that dastard act? It only took a matter a few hours of madness on 15th Jun. to destroy a century of harmony and peaceful co-existence.

Muslims of Sri Lanka are not zooming ahead with oil money as you suggest, but rather, our country Sri Lanka as a whole is managing to keep its head above water through Arab oil money, supporting a massive labor force from this country to stake a share in its new found oil wealth.

By and large, Muslim children in our country are not considered very bright may be due to various reasons, such as the poor standards of discipline and education dished out by the authorities, and there are many drop-outs in the process. However, in their struggle to survive in this challenging environment, they have turned out to be excellent businessmen. This is what has been their single most successful achievement to their meteoric rise in fame and fortune. This was truly a God given gift. It is their own hard earned money, blood sweat and tears that went up in flames in the South West of the country, which bordered on hatred and jealousy on their success. And here you complain about them ‘being so vastly different from the struggling masses’. Hey Ramona, the only thing I can say to you is ‘your slip is showing’.

      • 6
        7

The BBS didn’t muddy the pit. They set fire to it. It was already muddied since about 20 years ago, with Arabic countries pumping money in especially to fulfill their religion in other people’s lands.

Sri Lanka keeps its head above water by working very hard indeed, in these Arabic lands. The money earned is just and proper. However, the money pumped in for Muslims to zoom ahead, is an unfair one, and Gosl should curb this phenomenon. That’s where the SB’s should be fighting for, and not shamefully having BBS to do this kind of dirty work.

Yes, many Muslims are excellent businessmen, and they interacted splendidly with the majority race before they got this special influx of Arab money to zoom ahead exponentially. No wonder the the SB’s are miserable. SB’s have to work as servants in the Arab countries for sustenance, while your business people have vast sums at their disposal in Sri Lanka to gambol about with. Again it is the fault of the Gosl for allowing this and especially for not e.g. taxing appropriately, and the certain SB’s overlooking all of this for their own gain.

          @ Ramona,

Arab money?? Well, I sure like to lay my hands on some of it. Every religion and places of worship gets donations… so why should it be a problem if Muslim houses of prayers gets it? And please don’t talk about this ‘Muslim extremism’ ‘cos they don’t exist and nor would you come up with any proof of their existence. So before you make a fool of yourself, i suggest you make a case only if there is one and not for the sake of it.

As for the sorry-ass sections of the Sinhala Buddhist community living a pathetic life, who’s fault is that? Go tell that to your own so-called ‘Sinhala leaders’ who were shafting you right through out you life and saddest part is, you did not even know it. Please pardon my language.

Controversial book behind clashes in Kattankudy
            By Asif Fuard
The recent Kattankudy clashes which resulted in over 200 houses of Sufi followers being burned down by the mainstream Sunni Muslims was reportedly due to a book published by a Sufi leader which was considered controversial and un-Islamic.

The author of the book M.S.M. Abdullah alias Pailwan had founded the Sufi group – All Ceylon Tharikathul Mufliheen – 35 years ago. The book, written in Tamil published in 1989 was subject to criticism by the Sunni group – All Ceylon Jammiyyathul Ulama – which said the book contained remarks derogatory of Islam.

The Sunni group had distributed handbills in the area condemning the book and the author. Mr. Abdullah had consequently filed a defamation case in the Colombo District Court against the All Ceylon Jammiyyathul Ulama.

After seven years of court battles, the Jammiyyathul Ulama agreed to a settlement on June 11, 1996 to withdraw the “fatwa” (religious decree) and declare the “fatwa” be deemed not to have been given. All Ceylon Tharikathul Mufliheen secretary A.L.M. Kaleel told The Sunday Times damage due to the clashes has been estimated at around Rs. 400 million.

“The Sunni’s first destroyed our computer lab which is used by many poor children in the villages. The mob had also stolen valuables in houses and then burnt the houses while the police just watched”, he said.

“The Sunni’s actions are an insult to the District Court. The mob had entered our mosque and destroyed so many ziharams (tombs) as well,” he said. At the moment the leader of the other Sufi group – All Ceylon Spiritual Movement – had fled to India due to the unrest in Kattankudy. Leader of the movement Abdul Rauf is said to be an understudy of the Jammiyyathul Mufliheen leader Abdullah. The clashes had erupted on October 31 when moves were underway to bury the ailing Sufi leader Abdullah in a tomb in a Muslim burial ground, when he dies. The mainstream Sunni’s had opposed this and when a bomb had exploded in a mosque injuring several people the clashes had begun. A total of five shrines have been destroyed in Kattankudy.

At the moment several Sunni’s in the area are homeless and have left Kattankudy. Deputy Minister A.M. Hisbullah is engaged in an effort to find an amicable settlement.

Congratulations on knowing a bit of English, which has somehow given you the illusion that you are articulating a coherent thesis on Buddhism and its adherents. You are nothing but a delusional, hypocrite, who is so blinded by your own extremism that you don’t see the miserable existence of your own people, who run around like a bunch of jackals trying to curry favor from a mythical figure. Got to give it you guys for the incredible hypocrisy and ballast that you show on a daily basis. Insularity does breed contempt. The extinction of Buddhism, dream on there buddy.

Fazl, you’ve demonstrated to be a true follower of the Quran and have reacted to a woman’s response with utter contempt and rudeness as your doctrine dictates it. Now go and tell your mom and your sisters that you’ve told a woman that Sinhala leaders were “shafting” her right through out her life and try to get their response.

It’s also probable that they will not be surprised, as they are used to be treated life long as 2nd class human beings by the males.

apology accepted………….thought it was of more abstract meaning at first…..

Great job, however of showing the differences between Islam purity and present Buddhist degeneracy. Your call for Jihad in exerting your best efforts in your inner struggle will work very well if the monetary implications in it all is realized. The close knit bonding that the Muslims possesses presently solidified by the sense of relief in the assurance that all will be well in the Sharia sharing and caring of Arab money, should also be shared with the Sinahla-Buddhist people.

After all the hedonic lifestlyes of the rich and famous of all religions (and in Sri Lanka, too many Buddhist priests “it-sims,” seem to be living like that), these religious social structures are then there for the moor and marginalized. Christians have their very rich churches to succor them. Likewise with the Muslims. Buddhists however, do not have that physical structure from rich outside sources to care for their poor.

Therefore as all these monies come from outside organizations into a predominantly Buddhist culture, they should be taxed. Not a huge tax to cripple the structure, but an agreed upon one by religious groups and Gosl (if it is done already, then more should be given- UN can monitor). For example, the call for BBS is a correct one in asking the Pope to rebuild temples European invaders destroyed.

Then, the Muslim call to prayer, wafting down from high minarets will be a beautiful peaceful one, acceptable even by the Buddhists temples, and the women in black will look so very holy and a blue-print to uphold present day decency in women (though we hope the Muslim men will be converted by the Buddhist precept of one wife per husband).

      ramona therese FERNANDO

Just because your ancestors who came from Thoothukuddy (South India) during the Portuguese period intermingled and blended in with the majority race of the Southern Sri Lanka, changed their names to Portuguese (FERNANDO) to hide their original identity and later got converted to Sinhala Buddhists/Christians, please do not expect others (Muslims were there in Sri Lanka much before you Fernandos) to do the same.

      • 2
        2

I wonder about Fernandos being entirely from Thootukudai. Like all other Lankan surnames (except for the Thamils who either killed or banished any mixtures in accordance to Paleolithic tribalism), part of their ancestry would have probably come from south of India, which would have greatly enhanced the Sinhala gene-pool.

However, the largest percentage came from Lion-race themselves. Many changed their names to the high-ranking Portuguese Fernando, at that time, to impress the Portuguese hierarchy who colonized Sri Lanka. Another number got converted to Catholicism, and took on the surname of their converters, out of deep appreciation and admiration of the divine-looking priests who baptized them (although some would have done so out of the fear of being decapitated or burned at the stake).

Yet another number of Portuguese settled in Sri Lanka and produced part-Portuguese offspring with the local people, and also with the later colonial rulers, the Dutch and British. Hence the elite Portuguese name of Fernando endured to this day. Persons from South America are in awe my Portuguese surname (my married name), for they are more used to the surname Fernandez, as the Fernando surname, according to them, is one of great aristocratic nature.

“However, the largest percentage came from Lion-race themselves.”

          It is interesting.

The ancestors of this lion race must have been highly advanced in science and psychology, considering their contribution to genetic engineering, cross breeding woman with beast, some 2500 years ago.

It was a marvellous piece of invention except that those pioneering geneticists forgot to replace the lion brain with a human one. Failure to genetically modify man/beast brain cells continues to cause immense misery to people of this island since Vijaya was born.

Man/Beast brain is located in the wrong side of the body.

      Dear Ma’am,

Agree with you on the blending part, but Muslims need not be no Santa to no majority community. Sure wish you acknowledge every individual’s right to live their own life as long as it doesn’t directly affect another. As for religions and races, everyone of ’em is foreign and just ‘cos 2/3rds of them have Sinhala names does not make this country a Buddhist one. It need to governed by Buddhist teaching to be called such. Will address this issue in a future article. God Bless.

        2

Very troubling indeed to read. Ok I agree that most of the Arab money is only for religious purposes, and it is unfair to say that the hard-working Muslims got their money from this pool. Probably they got it from Gosl itself, in the Gosl’s bid for entrepreneurship, But still, there has to be some affinity with the average SB, surely.

80% of Sinhalese and 70% SB’s certainly should have “Bumiputra-ship”. See Malaysia- good people; not racist at all. All their government said was Malays are Muslims and Bumiputras (the first and foremost race, with specific laws in place to uphold this phenomenon)! There was hardly and dissension- indeed none at all. We need to get Mahathir to solve our problems (forget about South Africa). In fact, it will be a very good thing if a Lankan Muslim himself, who understand the interactions of communities, and cares for the Sinhalese majority (and is clever, unlike our Sinhalese mutts), to come up with a good pattern.

          • 4
            3

It is a fundamental and universal principle for the majority people to be master-race (sorry that you were over-taken 2,500 years ago, NV)! It is true for every country in the world, including the countries of the New World. However, if SB’s can’t get their act together, Lanka will be the disgrace it has been since 1948. Therefore like USA, it is advisable for Sri Lanka to get a minority person to balance out things.

ps. don’t overexcite yourself with paranoia NV.

This master-race(as all master-races are), is only master in numbers. It is therefore justifiable and legal for their rights to be upheld first and foremost. No romantic delusions for me about them…..if so, I would be praising their intellect and upholding BBS et al.I am a Pragmatist! It is especially painful to see the imbalances this master-race has to endure. No fault of the minorities, of course; fault lies with the master-race’s stupid governing bodies. But the present Gosl is becoming more aware, it is hoped.

          ramona therese fernando,

          Master-race???

You definitely know how and when they became large in numbers to be called the “master-race”.

When all the kutti-thambis, sinna-thambis, peria-thambis, nalla-thambis and so on from South India (thoothukudi) were brought by the Portuguese for fishing & pearl diving, cinnamon planting & peeling, coconut planting & plucking & toddy tapping, they intermingled and blended in with the Sinhala race of the Southern Sri Lanka, changed their names to Portuguese (FERNANDOs, de SILVAS,and so on) to hide their original identity and later got converted to Sinhala Buddhists/Christians. An exponential increase in numbers to become a “master-race”.

Arab money coming to the Muslims???
          Where is the proof?

BTW, are you sure you are alright?

As Native Vedda said, all what you are writing/hallucinating in a public forum may be due to extreme illness. It is called schizophrenia, where one of the symptoms is hallucinations. Mohammed Fazl,

The word ‘Jihad’ conjures up a lot of unsavoury visions in many people in the world. Buddhism in Sri Lanka is a tool of violence used and abused at the behest of unsavoury elements, be thay politicians or those in robes. The idea of ‘Jihad’ in the hands of Muslims is not far behind.

In Iraq today the Sunnis are engaged in Jihad against the Shias and the Shias are engaged in Jihad against the Sunnis. Go back to the beginnings of Islam. Read about the first battle between Muslims where about 10,000 lost their lives,’the Battle of the Camels(Jamal)’ the ‘First Fitna’. And Jihad in all forms against all percieved enemies, even against fellow Muslims has been the order of the day since that time. No Muslim has become more civilized or a country more peaceful by waging ‘Jihad’.

So Fazl we all need to find a better way than ‘an eye for an eye’.

No doubt Buddhism in its purest form is a wonderful philosophy. I still have not met a single Sri Lankan who claims to be a Buddhist, a real Buddhist at heart.

“. . . (I)t is my firm belief that Muslims in Sri Lanka should not deviate from their centuries-old practice and beliefs and should stay steadfast so as to be exemplary . . . “

This is close to Gandiji’s Satyagraha concept (struggle for truth; to be exemplary). This kind of jihadism is a legitimate right of any Muslim who wish to strive for it.

Exactly… I don’t see why any followers of any religion should compromise their core values and practices to suit another kind… If it harmful on a humanitarian point of view, it can be discussed… but imposing one’s agenda on another faith should be a big NO!

Dear Writer, rigt at the moment we the people have no other choice than just let it go, since we ourselves let it become this appalling levels. If fearless writers like you and the few could transmogrify the situation is a doubt to me.
Let s just take alone the last few months, how many of the numberous high crime level incidents occured in the island that stay yet to be investigated properly.
    A) heavy loads of heroine – hard drugs are imported to the country with the direct approval of the once in topleadership
    B) If the president himself is a genuine, he should bring the reports of those incidents to the public, has he ? No… not even any others seem to raise the questions in that regard either .

C)Aluthgama and Rathumalwila people were killed and injured and hurt as nobody else did it before, but have the wounds of the victimized are met with remedies ? NO no no.

    D) Muslims and other minorities are verbally attacked by all filthy langauges akin being used by street dwellers today – thanks go to the MR administration, because they are used to that uncultured conversations but the people are not yet. If this came from laypeople, we could consider it to some extent, but so called buddhist monks that have done all multi crimes sofar have been patronaged by MR adminstiration.
I believe people of this country should go to street today – asking justice for Aluthgama and Rathumaliwila incidients. Then the MR aministration will have to answers to the world – how they have improved HR issues even after the UN resolutions are CLEARLYY made against those rulers.

Firstly. Islam by itself can do nothing, it is only a religion. Its followers are called Muslims. Just follow the statistics provided on the internet to understand the truth where Muslims stand in terms of world population, second only to Christians. Muslims don’t ask for world dominance, but it is happening without they asking for it. It is a fulfillment of a prophecy started by a single person in the form of a Prophet named Muhammed (May peace and Allah’s blessings be upon him).

Just watch the new reverts on Youtube, popular figures in society, Buddhist monks, Christian Priests, singers, dancers, popular TV actors, showmen, news readers, anchormen and women, the list goes on and on. Discover how many Muslim Masjids have come up in Texas, New York and even around the world in non-Muslim countries. What were those same stats may be 5 or 10 years before. At the going rate, what will it be in another 10 years time from now. Plenty of videos of Muslims praying on the roads as the Masjids are full and cannot accommodate the crowds. Doesn’t this mean or say anything to you? (By the way don’t even whisper this to BBS goons, they will want to do something about it with immediate effect).

People attack Islam for all the wrong reasons and sheer ignorance, (incidents such as in the aftermath of 9/11 perpetrated purportedly by Muslims in the name Islam). But once they do their own research, come to understand and relate to the true teachings of the religion of Islam, they begin to like it. The Muslims in SL are truly peaceful and resilient in nature, and will like to get back to normalcy as soon as possible. But not the same spirit in many other parts of the world where poverty drives them towards seeking violence as a means to survive, and has nothing to do with the teachings of Islam.

      • 1
        0

Islam surreptitiously grows in non-Muslim societies using the latters accommodative spirit and their general ignorance of Islamic designs and intentions. They do not know, while they are tolerant to Muslims to allow places of Islamic worship and so on – in Arab lands and Muslim-majority countries places of worship or the freedom to practise other religions are not only disallowed but heavy punishment – including long prison terms – is the law.
While Arabs in the Middle East weakly deny this Lankans fear to take religious items in their baggage. You know it too well.

Lately – people in France, Germany, Britain, Holland, Australia and elsewhere have become wise to these harmful designs. People in those countries are showing their disapproval and are ready to fight the danger within. See what is happening in London and Manchester. Like what you see happening in Sri Lanka today, once the conspiracy is known, Muslims are advised to fall back – temporarily – and say they made mistakes. But they are advised to regroup and fight later. This strategy is also now far too well known in non-Islamic countries.

    Dear muhammed fazl ,

current junta regime is desperately looking for an excuse to unleash “official” terror on her citizens , if any one tries to match with some sort of terror as a response to junta’s terror tactics ,it would be a bonus for them , in the event of such a chaos scenario Junta will win the propaganda war both locally and internationally quite easily , therefor best advice would be never to resort to violence as a mean of reciprocation.just look at the Aluthgama Drama , aren’t they running out of silly excuses of justifying the mayhem ? hadn’t it been back fired on the junta ? UN, Muslim countries and all other civilized nations demand answers from the frogs in the well , don’t they ? had the muslim youths gone on a rampage looting & killing innocent Sinhalese , would there be a same response from the IC ?

please try to understand the mentality of the junta ,their one and only panacea of LTTE is long gone and there is no any valid justification for their long existence any more , Junta has been rewarded with systematic isolation from the civilized world and the UN war crime investigation , isn’t that an utter humiliation ? in light of these developments it is quite OK to junta to feel insecure and vulnerable , as direct result of those circumstances junta is getting paranoid by the day , aren’t junta running out of terror tactics ( grease yaka , Gobi Drama , BBS etc) ? if for some reason either Tamil, muslim or sinhalese groups tries to resort to violence as a protection mechanism , it would legitimize the existence of the junta regime, just think about it fazl !!!!!!!

Sinhala-Buddhists Rejoice – The Next Buddha has already arrived.

Gotama Buddha predicted the coming of next Maitreya Buddha but however the Sinhala-Buddhists always wanted a violent Barbaric Buddha as depicted in the Mahavamsa instead of a peaceful Maitreya Buddha as mentioned in the Tripitika. Now, in place of Maitreya Buddha, Gnanasara Buddha has arrived.

We have a very good news for the Sinhala-Buddhists, the Buddha that they dreamed of (always wanted), the Buddha as portrayed in the Mahavamsa, the true Sinhala-Buddhist Buddha, the Barbaric Buddha who can terrorize the non-Buddhists has already arrived in the form of GALAGODA ATTE GNANASARA. Saadu! Saadu! Saadu!

Gotama Buddha: Ahimsa (non-violence), Karuna (compassion), Metta (affection), and Maithriya (loving-kindness).

Gnanasara Buddha: Provocative hate speech and swearing in filth, attack them, loot them, rape them, sodomise them, burn them, kill them, and plunder/destroy their belonging.

For the Buddhists around the world, Gotama Budu Saranai and for the Sinhala-Buddhists of Sri Lanka Gnanasara Budu Aba Saranai.

Fazl, that was a bold call to Jihad. But I worry for your safety, since the message may be construed to mean rebellion against the State or opposing forces, when you correctly mean ‘exertion of our best efforts in our inner struggle for what is right and to fight evil and injustice’. We Muslims know what you mean, but those outside the Faith glancing through this article may not pick up the subtle missive, and may attack the messenger by not understanding the message.

Due to wrong connotations given to this Arabic word ‘Jihad’ by all and sundry, originating from Western media including those foreign so called ‘Muslim’ terror or hate groups, I am sure this will not hold in favor of many, who may think this as a call for an all out ‘Holy War’ or some kind of physical retaliatory attacks against opposition forces. There could be nothing further from the truth as you and I know it, to be a self purifying mechanism, as in the cas of fasting – fighting the urge to consume food and drink. Yes, that too is Jihad which incidentally has as many as 7 stages. The last of which is the ‘fight to the death’ stage when all else fails and the free practice of the religious observations becomes intolerable. But fortunately, we are far from that stage.

In this day and age when there is a dearth for truth, honesty, justice and fairplay, and these are flung out of the window and remain but mere words only, and in its place avalanches of daring lies, nasty innuendos arousing religious hatred, misinformation are the order of the day, we must expect a ‘mountain out of a molehill’ type of response, for your battle-cry call. So be prepared to ride the enormous waves and brace yourself for the worst. Insha Allah we will be there to stand by you to fight the good battle.

      Dear Marwan,

Safety should be sought from the God above… it is better to get beaten up than be enslaved or to seek mercy from the aggressor. The word ‘Jihad’ has been misused many times by enemies of Islam to victimize them…. My attempt here is to give a proper definition to the word and if it still does not hold no water with the enemy/authorities, to bring out of the closet every Muslim and to tag them as ‘jihadis’…

If every Muslim is a Jihadi, I am pretty sure the government or the hate-filled monks will need to look for another ‘enemy’ to wage war on or to seek alternate political means to survive!

Send me an email, as i am planning a broader campaign for accountability and justice. Salaamz

We have already had enough trouble without religious flashpoints like these to stir more discord among the other communities. Unfortunately, trying to ‘prove’ your individual point of view can be construed by the majority of non-muslims as rabble-rousing, no different from the BBS goons and that mad monk himself. We can certainly do without this mayhem. What is needed now is a soothing of the mindset and an effort towards reconciliation and damage control in the background of the Alutgama, Dharga Town and Beruwala carnages. So, please tone down your articles and if you still have the urge to write, choose something less controversial like for instance the cost of living in the country which is soaring to eagle-heights or the unfortunate plight of gays in Srilanka who are tormenting themselves with the inability to come out because of societys prudish attitude towards their sexuality. We know you are an outspoken and brave young man but do remember that discretion is the better part of valour. Good Luck.

Not the kind to pander to public opinion. What i say, i say it with conviction. BBS & Co. fire needs to be met with fire… The public can choose to adjust if they wish. Having lived for many years on planet earth, I have learned that none of us gets out alive.

What more satisfaction can we mortals have than meeting our maker after doing the right stuff while living…?

“What more satisfaction can we mortals have than meeting our maker after doing the right stuff while living…? “

…. and the prospect of having seven virgins and nubile young boys with ivory smooth skin all to yourself…The dream of every jihadist. Bloody FOOOOOOOOOOL!

Imran speaks wisely. There are millions of good Muslims in the country like him. Some in the community apparently have made some mistakes in the recent past but the entire community throughout the country should not be punished for this. It is appalling they are made to live in fear and anxiety, if we call ourselves a democratic and civilised government. It is good the President and the Defence Secretary have come out to the affected areas ensuring the return to calm and normalcy.

    To:Muhammed Fazl –
    1. “fear of the fastest growing religion in the world.”
Though Islam isn’t a philosophy like Buddhism it is fastest growing due uncontrolled births among Muslims community. In contrast with Islam, Buddhism is the fastest spreading philosophy by understanding.

    1. “fear of the fastest growing religion in the world.”
we fear of old stone age cult which is try to invade and destroy entire sri Lanka

“taking into account the current murder rates, rape cases, hatred levels, extortion, theft, alcoholism, lawlessness and intolerance among others, bitter pill it may be to some, but the failure of Buddhism”

    2. Islam failed since its inception.. what why followers of Islam started forcible conversion of people by invading countries mass murdering and rapes, I challenge you if can name a county which was accepted Islam peaceful manner… just Google and see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nalanda

    How Islam came peacefully

Also, rape cases, hatred levels, extortion, theft, alcoholism were dead hidden from Muslim community.. specially child abuse never reported as
it is well accepted by Islam allowing child mirages.. Nothing illegal who will report it ?? its obvious that Muslim community guilt on what they are doing past present and future… but all hide name of Islam

To see reality of Islam , please turn your eyes to Middle east.. there all of mass murderous groups are peaceful follower of Islam.. we call them as terrorist but your definition might be brotherhood, you might say I was mislead by western media…

you are writing in fantasy world, people dont hate Islam by do hate follower of Islam..

you cant compare Buddhism or Christianity as non of them out of your scope. it is clear that you are another blind follower of Islam and spread hate with out knowing core values of Buddhism ….

Finally, Jews will be decided when islam should stop.. till then you can tell us Baillaaa..

    Muhammed FAZL:

I like when you say that Islam is the fastest growing religion.

Because, once you come to the peak, do you think it will go up any more ?

do you think, that there will be a 100% Islamic world. Even Allahs don’t know that.

Anything in order to go down it has to peak first.

Why should one convert people? Convert is a term wrongly used by many because of the ignorance of the language or knowledge. When disbilievers/nonMuslims become a Muslim it is reverting and not converting. Because they are returning back to their original religion or previous state to which they belong.Yet when a Muslim change his religion we say convert because then he is changing his original religion (and going against his Creator). It is the duty of every Muslim to remind the disbelievers and non Muslims about reverting in order to help them not to go to hell by associationg partners for his Creator but unfortunately this is what most of the Muslims don’t do because of the prevailing situation (Our Creator knows best)but stricly speaking there is no compulsion in religion. If somebody does that it is the fault of the person who does that and it is his ignorance and you cannot blame the religion for that. If somebody choose to betray the Creator and harm himself by his own free will who can help him more than he himself.
It is said in the Holy Book Say: O disbelievers, I do not worship that which you worship nor do you worship the One whom I worship. And neither I am going to worship that which you worship nor will you worship the One whom I worship? For you is your faith and for me my faith. (If any one want to know in which situation this is revealed to whom and what etc.you can always find out).May our Creator guide all of us to the straight path!

Your thoughts coincides with those of the Nobel Laureate Sir V.S. Naipaul. In his best-seller “Beyond Belief: Islamic excursions among the converted peoples (1998)” a book that he wrote after visiting several non-Arab Muslim countries, there are several references in the book in line with your thoughts ALL MEN AND WOMEN IN THE WORLD ARE BORN MUSLIM. If they are not born into Muslim families and parents, Naipaul’s studies convince him, it is the duty of other Muslims to covert them into Islam. Thoughts similar to these were believed by the Catholics centuries ago. If you recall when the Portugese came here
they tried to convert “the local savages” so that they can become
      civilised Catholics.

I am afraid those in today’s non-Muslim world will not accept your line of thinking. This is one of the principal reasons of inter-religious conflict in the world. Today’s world is far more civilised, tolerant and plural except in respect of one or two religions that still live in medieval times and stone age customs, beliefs and attitudes.

This is enough evidence to get down Mossad to clean up SL, again.

A very good excuse to bring Mossad back. VERY FEW SLs will object!

More Muslims die on a daily basis due to violence than anyone else! :)

SL has a long way to go to increase the Muslim death rate to above Muslim birth rate.

We have to realize that the truth isnt what most people want to hear. Most muslims in sri lanka are blindly nationalistic not different to the Sinhala Buddhists who too are nationalistic in their own way. BBS is a product of that nationalism and because of the tendencies of exploitability by extremist buddhist, they tend to be sheep guided by wolves in Saffron robes…

The buddhists are like any other non muslim groups and if they learn Islam, they will surely know the truth. But such is their orientation to misguidance of a philosophy that one man came up with, they do not believe in Divine revelation. Either way, we as muslims respect what they believe and to expect the same is what we like to see. Most buddhists have no idea about Islamic beliefs and they tend to take pride in their ignorance which is very worrying…

Know that Islam is not the problem to Sri Lanka or the Sinhala Buddhists… It is the solution to all your issues of violence, ignorance, lawless tendencies and hypocrisy…

Just because it is fast growing, it does not mean that it is the best or the wholesome. For an instances germs are spreading very fast. Epidemics are spreading very fast. Even the weeds are spreading very fast!

So what ever spreading very fast are the things that are really worthless or useless. Some times these are very dangerous for human existence.

It looks like Muslim also comes under this category! Most uneducated, most uncivilized and most barbaric animals are Muslims!

Please understand that Buddhism is the only religion that is being respected by the intellectual and peace loving people in the world!

    Muhammed:

The literal meaning of Jihad is struggle or effort, and it means much more than holy war.

Muslims use the word Jihad to describe three different kinds of struggle:

•A believer’s internal struggle to live out the Muslim faith as well as possible
•The struggle to build a good Muslim society
•Holy war: the struggle to defend Islam, with force if necessary.

    In your words

***Also when worship of idols, trees and ritualistic/pagan practices are construed as religiousness as against following and living by the beautiful teachings of Lord Buddha, one need not be surprised with the turn of events in the last century in the history of Sri Lanka.

I have no problem with you defending your religion but I have a problem with the above when you either question or attack other religious beliefs.

    WHAT RIGHT DO YOU HAVE.

In that sesnse are you any different from Gotha and BBS.

      Dear Kali,

My apologies if I hurt your Buddhist sentiments…. But I believe I have the right to question. Even Buddha himself asked his disciples not to follow anyone or anything blindly… Besides, re-awakening the followers of the Lord Buddha need not be a bad idea after all… As much as I believe in my religion, I doubt anyone will be more happier than me if this country is governed by core teaching of Buddhism.

Though I did not intend to insult or attack Buddhism, I tender my apologies once again. God bless…

You should check out the latest HD productions coming out of Iraq to see what the present day ‘flag bearers’ of Islam have been getting up to :D

Maybe they also need a man in the sky to hold them accountable for their actions – oh wait :D

We feel extremely sorry for you. Enjoy all what your creator gave you and be ungrateful. When you are in the hell (if you die with this same thought and I wish you don’t and let the Almighty open your brain)I will wave at you being in the heaven God willing.
