Far Right Violence In The UK: Migrants Not The Key Issue; Islamophobia Is!

By Mohamed Harees –

Lukman Harees

The impact of the far-right riots seen across the UK could be felt for “months and years to come”, as the UK’s Justice Secretary warned. Far-right violence broke out in towns and cities across the UK in the wake of a stabbing attack that left three girls dead in Southport on Monday 29 July. False rumours were circulated online claiming the suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker who arrived in the UK by boat. This was found to be an outright lie ,which brought together the two tropes driving the modern far right: Islamophobic claims that Muslim men pose a threat to women and girls and manufactured outrage over “fighting age men” arriving in the UK on small boats to live off the taxpayer. Instead, the culprit was a British-born teenager Axel Rudakubana of Rwandan heritage and was since charged with murder and attempted murder. It was the Muslims, Britain’s largest religious minority who were singled out for attack by nativist rioters. This was evidenced by the decision to immediately target mosques. The British government took action to quell the riots and to bring key culprits to book, although belated. But the damage was done.

While the false claims about the Southport killings were specific to that incident, the disinformation being shared was built on years of far-right influencers engaged in rhetorical violence against primarily Muslim migrant people. When it was revealed that the individual charged with the Southport murders was a British born teenager, the far-right narrative shifted to maintain its Islamophobic focus. Far right outfit EDL’s co-founder and convicted criminal Tommy Robinson (real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) and others shared disinformation about Muslim men stabbing people in Stoke-on-Trent, giving a new inciting reason for the riots, despite Staffordshire Police confirming there have been no such stabbings. The claim that white Britain is under attack by Muslim men is then used to incite the far-right’s ultimate goal: a genocidal civil war, otherwise known as Day X. Fellow agitator Laurence Fox also tweeted saying “it’s war” and “for decades British girls have been raped by immigrant barbarians.” That one’s been viewed more than 3 million times.

The horrific deaths of the three children had nothing to do with the terrorising of asylum-seeking people and children in hotels, the destruction of black and brown people’s businesses, or the attacks on mosques. The street violence that has gripped much of England and Northern Ireland since 30 July instead tells a story of who the modern far right are, how they organise, what they believe, and the coalition of hard-right politicians, commentators and influencers who have empowered this hateful movement to inflict widespread violence against families fleeing fear.

Following the Southport riot, Reform UK MP Nigel Farage put out a video where he claimed the violence was a reaction to “fear, discomfort, to unease … I am worried, not just about the events in Southport, but about societal decline that is happening in our country … this prime minister does not have a clue … we need to start getting tough … Because what you’ve seen on the streets of Hartlepool, of London, of Southport, is nothing to what could happen over the next few weeks.” In his video, Farage hints to the far-right trope of Western decline – an offshoot of the Great Replacement theory. He argues that the government is failing to protect its people. More importantly, he suggests that if the government fails to get “a clue”, it will get worse. The violence, fear and disorder will increase. This is part of the modern far right’s strategy: if the state cannot protect us from inevitable violence, it says, the far-right strongman can. The desired outcome of this violence is to create insecurity, fear and anxiety in the general population, which in turn leads to a collapse in faith in democracy and society.

Ironically, in 2021, an infamous government-backed report, the Sewell Commission, claimed that the UK was “a model for other White-majority countries” on issues of race equality. Much to the consternation of many anti-racists, the report found that there was scant evidence of institutional racism in the UK. Only three years later, the credibility of this Report has been called into  question ,with the “model” country gaining international attention as far-right thugs began intimidating, harassing and attacking people of colour. The UK today is anything but a beacon of equality, with the scapegoating of migrants and people seeking asylum gaining full sponsorship by mainstream political elites and the media ,which pursued hostile environment immigration policies over decades to distract from economic and political failings.

Views on immigration and asylum also influenced many of the rioters, who, according to the Hope not Hate advocacy group, at times used the slogan “stop the boats” — which was adopted by the former Conservative government as it attempted to thwart small boat migration crossings in the Channel. However, angry, Islamophobic resentment that had long brewed across the U.K. came to the surface. According to U.K. government data from 2023, no religious group has faced more hate crimes linked to faith than Britain’s Muslims. In the year ending March 2023, more than 4 in 10 of all recorded religious hate crime offenses were targeted against Muslims. Today, Muslims and immigrants, particularly asylum seekers from the Middle East, are two sides of the same problem for the British far right. But this conflation of the two groups has not occurred in a vacuum. Much of the far-right rhetoric about Muslims and migrants has been replicated by at least some mainstream politicians. Just look at the similarities between the language used in the ongoing riots and the rhetoric used by politicians.

In this context, media coverage of the race riots in the UK in its usual double standards approach, need to be criticised for focusing on the actions of ‘protestors’ and ‘demonstrators’ in British towns and cities rather than labelling them as rioters. The violence on the streets were misrepresented by some sections of the biased Media as representing legitimate frustrations about the “dumping of millions of migrants from alien cultures” and “uncontrolled, mass immigration”. In fact in one of the talk shows Good Morning Britain, when Zarah Sultana MP, a Muslim politician went on  to talk about the Islamaphobic nature of these riots, she was treatment by presenters shabbily and was widely criticised as patronising, and belittling. It was disgusting that amid much profound anxiety, tension and pain faced by the communities of colour, every effort was being made by certain political and media elites to diminish, and sometimes demonise their concerns.

Politicians have shied away from calling it Islamophobia, instead describing the violence as “far-right thuggery” and “anti-immigration protests”. Islamophobia and anti-immigration sentiment have been par for the course for the British far right since the turn of the century. In his response to the unrest, Keir Starmer told Muslims: “I will take every step possible to keep you safe.” He continued: “Whatever the apparent motivation … we will not tolerate attacks on mosques or our Muslim communities.” Surely, the “apparent motivation” is Islamophobia?

As the police cracked down on the rioters, accusations of ‘two-tier policing’ – the false claim that thugs were being harshly treated because they were white – also began to take hold. In reality, it is ethnic minorities who are subject to racial disparities in the criminal justice system, some are victimised, and due to substantial cuts in legal aid, a number have no assurance of effective redress from authorities. Their playbook is to provoke black and brown communities into violence, which would be captured on film and manipulated as propaganda to falsely suggest that multiculturalism is failing. These images would inevitably make their way onto mainstream TV news, radio discussions, and newspaper columns, twisting the narrative to portray the aggressors as victims.  Elon Musk too himself has fanned the flames by insinuating that the UK is on the verge of civil war.

Is this just the end of the beginning? How can UK end the divisive political rhetoric that fuels intolerance? Is the UK government showing serious concern to address this issue? In this context, as anxieties among Muslim communities grow, it is really sad that the recently elected Labour government too (like its Tory predecessor) shows reluctance to meet with the largest body representing British Muslims and holds credibility among them, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB). There appears to be plans afoot to support the creation of a new Muslim group provisionally called the Muslim Leadership Council to act as the primary point of engagement between the government and Muslim communities.  In doing so, the new government is set to repeat the same mistakes as the previous Labour government in creating bodies that fail to truly represent British Muslims, leading to further distrust.

In the context of increasing Islamophobia and threats from the far-right, the Government needs to engage directly with Muslim communities and their representatives rather than creating a friendly vehicle for themselves. Perhaps both the previous Labour and Conservative governments heavily funded, and had close ties to, Quilliam Foundation, which was most distrusted by Muslim communities. In fact, Labour’s position on Gaza not only cost the party major seats to independents and slashed their majority in many constituencies but has highlighted the disconnect between the party and Muslim communities.

The vilification of Muslims and their communities has become normalised by both Labour and Conservative parties, as well as Ukip and Reform UK. Baroness Sayeeda Warsi spoke of Islamophobia having passed the “dinner table test”, where ordinary people would say things about Muslims in company with others that they would never say about other minority communities. This is partly the legacy of the Brexit Leave campaign’s toxic rhetoric on popular views about immigration that continued right up to the recent general election. Over the years, large sections of the public have become receptive to and accepting of Islamophobia (including far-right messages), and of the demonisation of migrants. Politicians of all stripes have enabled this by avoiding explicitly discussing Islamophobia.

In his response to the unrest, PM Starmer told Muslims: “I will take every step possible to keep you safe.” He continued: “Whatever the apparent motivation … we will not tolerate attacks on mosques or our Muslim communities.” Surely, the “apparent motivation” is Islamophobia? But, Starmer choosing not to use the “I-word” is far from surprising. Acknowledging that Islamophobia exists would mean having to do something about it. And as we know, this has never happened. The consequences of refusing to address (or even acknowledge) Islamophobia are now playing out in towns and cities across the country. The longer politicians pretend that Islamophobia doesn’t exist, the worse the problem will get, and the more permission the far right will feel they have to get away with violence.

As the HRW says, ‘The new Labour government inherits a country divided, in which the far right is a real and present danger. But to focus solely on the violent disorder is to treat the symptom of a much broader problem. To tackle the threat posed by the far right, the government needs not only to hold to account those spewing dehumanizing rhetoric and address ongoing structural racism and Islamophobia, but also begin to address the many and varied structural issues, including rising inequality and poverty, that are ripe for cynical exploitation to push a xenophobic agenda’.

The ‘mainstreaming’ effect of far-right discourse on key issues such as immigration in global politics, particularly by ‘mainstream’ centre right parties has important implications for the future of liberal democracy in global politics. Centre-right parties may have opened up a ‘Pandora’s box’ and brought the ideology of the far right into the political mainstream. This is a worrying trend that arguably serves to legitimise populist radical right parties by bringing their discourse into the mainstream and therefore making it publicly acceptable amongst voters. Apart from the UK, other recent examples of this ‘mainstreaming effect’ can be found in Hungary, Poland, the US and Brazil where democratic institutions have been eroded.

Violent Far-Right Movements aren’t however just a ‘Western Problem’. The stark rise of far-right violent extremism has correlated with a rise in populist narratives and challenges to pluralist democracies in many states, including the Global South for example India and even Sri Lanka. Histories of tension with minorities and colonial pasts have often been exploited for political gain and parties in power have had to reckon with established religious political parties in order to secure majority rule, thus risking the institutionalization of exclusionary ethno-nationalist religious narratives. It is time for the UN and other international institutions, including those dealing with terrorism and violent extremism, to recognize the global nature of the far-right threat and meaningfully address terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations,” translating that rhetoric so often used in resolutions and meetings into meaningful action.

When Brits or the white communities raise concerns over their cultural values being hampered by migrants fir example muslims it is referred to as Isalamophobia. But if Sinhalese were to demand equal access to North & East of Sri Lanka, which are partsbof their own country, it’s Sinhalisation. – Why is it?

Writer is silent on Islamic racism sweeping all over the world. Worst racism in Srilanka is Muslim claim to eastern province where their ancestors went as refugees, and to commit ethnic cleansing of Tamils and appropriating their lands. There was anti-Hindu riots in Bangladesh, where police did not take any action to protect lives and properties of Hindus, where government has not arrested any culprits or brought them to justice. Violence there stopped only when India threatened to send troops to quell the riots. No demonstration by Muslims against this terror on Hindus. In contrast in UK, police is protecting the Muslims, miscreants have been arrested and some jailed and massive protests by whites against this atrocity. By this it is clear that Muslims are worst racists than whites. Muslims start the problem and when others react to it, cry foul. Islamophobia is a reaction to Islamomania a form of Islamic madness, and it is used to cover up atrocities committed by Muslims.

Muslim behaviour emanates from the Koran which tells the followers to kill non believers and destroy their places of worship. Muslims are not following the age old golden advice of “When in Rome do what the Romans do”, and are bull dozing their views and practices on their hosts. I have lived in UK for sufficient amount of time, and never came across white racism. It is a thing of the past and this Islamic madness is reviving it. Look around the world, in Muslim countries they are creating trouble to non-Muslims and in non-Muslim countries they are creating trouble to non-Muslims. Muslims are suffering from Christophobia in western countries and Phillipines, Buddhaphobia in Thailand, Myanmar and Srilanka, Hinduphobia in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan and Judaeophobia in middle east and western countries. All religions are blasphemous to others, but we hear of punishment for blasphemy only in Muslim countries. Muslims have no sense of gratitude, they misuse the generosity and liberality of western countries and are creating trouble. Put a stop to this nonsense of dominating others and live like good beings.

      Hello Ruchira,
You don’t seem to understand Racism, Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia or any other discriminatory practices. I am against any Religions having any say in the running of a Secular State. They can by all means make their views heard, but they must not interfere in the State Institutions. I am also against any Discriminatory Actions against people because of their Race, Religion (or Lack of), Ethnicity or Sex (Male or Female).
When I was a teenager it was common in England to discriminate against the Irish, Indians, Pakistanis, West Indians and anyone else deemed “not English”
The Scots and Welsh felt an Affinity with the Irish so there was little discrimination against them in those Countries.
After the end of the 2nd World War the UK Male workforce was severely depleted and the Government embarked on a policy of Immigration from its former and current Colonies (e.g. the Windrush Generation). This was at a time of quite severe Austerity and the immigrants were blamed by many for the Poverty.

We are all Human with many different cultures, however in the West these cultures and beliefs are more and more questioned, especially by the Youth. I can see it slowly encroaching here in Sri Lanka.
They question many of the Superstitions of their Elder Generation and can see for themselves on Social Media the standard of living in other Countries
I have lived in Muslim Countries and never once been Proselytised. Yes, they had incentives for Conversion, but they never bothered us. And to be fair neither have the Buddhists or Hindus. I have been known to give contributions to both for the Upkeep of their Temples and Kovils. The Muslims have their own Contributions (Zakat) but it has a threshold below which no contributions are required.
Many people fear Islam because it is the fastest growing Religion in the world. Around 2050 it may be the biggest in the World. In my opinion it will go the way that Christianity did after the Reformation. It will be possible in the future to question the Tenets and its Historical correctness, without repercussions.
The discovery of Life on Exoplanets may accelerate this process in all Religions.

This is supposed to be some kind of “Aragalaya” by the “youth” in Bangladesh. Clearly the “youth” have been radicalized along religious lines.

This video is not particularly graphic. In Pakistan, there are blasphemy laws and Christians are often beaten or burned to death on bogus allegations of insulting the Quran. Even Shia Muslims are not safe.

“It will be possible in the future to question the Tenets and its Historical correctness, without repercussions.”

We should not forget that Islam is 600 years younger than Christianity. 600 years ago, Christians were as extremist as some Muslims are now.

          Hello Ruchira.
The U.S. Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.
“Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:–”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” So no the President does NOT have to swear upon the Bible.
Once upon a time in a UK Court you had to swear an Oath upon the Bible. Now you just have to give an Affirmation. It is the same for Politicians they can do either. The UK does not have a President only a Prime Minister who does not swear an Oath when elected.
On another subject most people would be flattered at being copied (but not plagiarised) whether it was true or not.

LS, Lester and his Siamese twin (psychopath with understated comments) are constantly attacking you, me, HT, OC and everyone else. This is disgusting.
I have been busy with my business trips all these days. Yesterday I passed by a Tamil grocery store and got a Maliban lemon puff which I really like. It made me think of you. I think Maliban biscuits are available in many places in Europe. Whenever I eat Mint Pies (Walker) I think of our good fellow citizen Manel Fonseka. And my friends (food technologists) who have given me loads of LINDT chocolate remind me of my college days. The favorite chocolate in SL is Milka. Suprisingly, They don’t like fancy Lindt chocolate.
            .
My trip yesterday was from Dusseldorf and Essen back home. Next week I will be in Northern Europe. I have to work for about 8 more years to allow me entering in pension. For sure, I will not reutrn to SL, if a JVP led govt would be elected. I am one of the few in CT that touched the JVP terror to my skin. That was the brutal days of 1989-92 insurgency.

              .
Sad to see Lester assumes you came to SL to enjoy the low cost of living instead of staying in the UK. Right now some of my English friends are complaining about not being able to live in the UK anymore.
. And some of my friends in Europe (German, Italian, French and Spanish) are academics, some of them moved to Bali, Thailand or Afghanistan after their parents died. Some have started working voluntarily under “doctors without boarders”. Some help poor schools in retirement.
              :
They are such sensitive people (ex surgeons, doctors and medical experts; former university teachers). They don’t mind living even in the Maasai dominated provinces of Kenya. To each his own. When will Lester or some such bastard finally open their eyes ????? These men are really primitive to my knowledge.

This moronic duo doesn’t seem to know that love and care rule this life. We will also return to the country in 5-8 years if political stability makes progress.
My parents are no longer there but I love some places in SL for my inner peace and serenity. Recently crazy Lester compared Indians (1.3 billion) with Sri Lankans (22 million). He based this on his favorite theme of defecating in any free PLACE. I also noticed that this still happens near Colombo (Bambalapiitya coast or Mountlavinia).

Some cannot be without CHAT GPT today while others cannot be without CT posts (eg clownish Sinhala Man and pervert RUCHIRA). For some reason CT admins avoid controlling their “person specific” insults in their comments.

Ironically, this kind of criticism comes from abusive men living on UK welfare (UK did not ask them to become part of the population and also rejects former Bangladeshi leader when he applies for asylum there). The other person is Deepthi Sliva. She is said to be a former doctor but never revealed anything about her qualifications. These kind of people are entwined with this mentality for no good reason.

They stay in the past forever. I have cousins (over 70 years old) who constantly see minorities as scum. Paradoxically, they live as minorities in Europe.——-these are beasts in human disguise—- Gosh, what crazy thinking? Hurtful expressions of Lester are similar to that of his mental patient; Ruchira. I am KOTIYA when I speak out against my own race dominated by this kind of real racists.

Lester or any lower level Sri Lankan behaving like this is a disgrace to our Sinhala race. I know quite a few professors, senior nurses and varied other experts (Bio medical Engineering/medicine) in many countries who get along with us in daily working life.
The loudest are the poorly educated like Lester.
Also, this mental patient, Ruchira should repay his debt to the Sri Lankan government. For what purpose is an idiot of this kind allowed to waste taxpayers’ money?

I am now fed up with a number of comments of Lester and Ruchira in the last few weeks. I am simply retarded. I always respect LS, HT, OC, NV, Chiv, MF, SJ and the few and their fellow citizens. I would rather have planned my vacation with my beloved wife in Northern Europe soon. What is the use to me when we constantly see that our people will never change their mindset. If a JVP led government would be elected, Sri Lanka would surely be in chaos. God help Sri Lanka!

Have you noticed when Lester has obviously lost the argument (or the thread of his thoughts) then Ruchira jumps in with some ad hominem attacks followed by Lester reiterating them. I don’t know if you saw my link to the James Whale Show (the UK’s answer to Beavis and Butthead) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-ts8qg_2nU
This is Ruchira and Lester, you can pick which one is which.
As for my reasons for living in Sri Lanka; I Designed and Drew up the Plans for our House here and then Project Managed it through to completion. It would be very difficult to do that in the UK. It is big enough for my Family in the UK to stay when they come here. Two of my sisters and their Grandchildren have been before, and some more are coming in September. When I visited the UK with my wife we both froze due to the Winter weather. Enough reasons.

                      Scot,

You’re the one who claimed that gravity is not a force of attraction and water pressure does not change with height. This is why I encourage young people to read real books, as stupid ideas become ingrained with the advancement of age.

“Gravity is not a force of attraction – “The smaller mass is not “attracted” to the larger mass by any force. “

                      LankaScot / July 26, 2024

No water does not accumulate pressure with height.

By the way, if you still think water pressure does not change with height, you could try, as an experiment, jumping off the Kinniya Bridge (36 m), as I suggested earlier. First consult with a physics teacher in your area who might knock some sense into you. If you still insist, make sure you’ve prepared a will in advance.

                Hello Lester,
Giving only half the quote again. Good Trick. Here is the complete quote – “The smaller mass is not “attracted” to the larger mass by any force. The smaller mass simply follows the structure of curved spacetime near the larger mass”
This is how Einstein explains Gravitation in his General Theory of Relativity.

“No water does not accumulate pressure with height” I then said “You fail to understand differential pressure. You are probably confusing Potential Energy with Pressure”. I then went on to explain your misunderstanding.
Stop digging and trying to twist the truth.
                Best regards

                  LS,
It’s pretty obvious that Lester is as loony as his sidekick, but in a different fashion.
He simply cannot believe that he can be wrong. In his universe, a water bottle at 35,000 feet has a pressure of 15000 psi.
Or, he’s bored to death and wants to waste your time.

                Hello Lester,
I mentioned the Piper Alpha Disaster before. Did I also mention that some Diver friends of mine survived the Explosion? These are names in the Public Record. One of the them an American Diver gave Evidence at the Cullen Inquiry. He was on duty in the Dive Shelter. https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/11917221.diver-twice-cheated-death-on-piper-alpha-platform/
Another one that was off shift went up to the Heli-deck and jumped off. He was one of a group that jumped off. It was nearly 200 ft above Sea Level. A Scaffolder that also jumped off gave his story to the Press – https://www.scotsman.com/arts-and-culture/piper-alpha-survivor-recalls-moment-he-jumped-for-his-life-277890
So your stupid idea of “jumping off the Kinniya Bridge (36 m)” would be no problem and nothing to do with Water Pressure. A bit of alliteration is quite apt “Lester the Lost it”
                Best regards

              Hello Leelagemalli,
I used to fly into Dusseldorf and visit Rheindahlen, Elmpt, Gütersloh, Bielefeld and Paderborn amongst others. I liked Paderborn as it had a Cathedral with Twin Spires like my Hometown. I loved to eat Currywurst and Kartoffelsalat from the Market Stalls. I even had Dosa and Dahl for Breakfast in a Danish Street Market. Most of Western Europe has benefited from the wide range of foods brought by Immigrants.

          Ruchira,

“I am against any Religions having any say in the running of a Secular State”

Good point. There is no such thing as a secular Islamic state. The literal meaning of “Islam” is “submission.” There can be Muslims who are progressive, but the State itself is not secular. Mr. Scot is an apologist for Islam, so he will not admit these basic facts.

“Probabbly have decided to live here as he couldn’t afford to live in the UK due to cost of living.”

I agree. Which foreigner would retire in some backward area of Kandy? Which non-native foreigner would retire in S. Lanka period, when there are food shortages, hospital shortages, etc. If you are that wealthy, Australia or Spain/Portugal are much better destinations with a low cost of living. UK is definitely ship. Too many people on benefits & now higher prices because of Brexit. Those wanting to live here the most are either migrants (because they get the benefits) or criminals from Russia who escaped with stolen loot.

“I asked him what his designations were when he refers to various work experiences of him and also his qualifications but I still did not see a reply.”

He is probably some technician. That’s different from an actual engineer. Engineer designs, technician does maintenance and set-up. Entirely different training, curriculum and licensing. The “Scot” character is not particularly good at higher maths. Though he can do some simple calculation. His knowledge of physics seems to come from the BBC.

Dr. of Reservation (DrV). JASI’s are good for entertainment. My friend told me a story. The friend went to a Chinese restaurant with a JASI. This JASI is not a fool (works at Intel). The Chinese restaurants give you fortune cookies with a paper inside. The JASI was unaware and nearly ate the paper.

It’s not racist, considering how Indians already discriminate themselves. Apparently Kamala Harris’ mother (a very smart lady btw) belongs to a Brahmin sect that fled India in droves after the DMK came to power.
As for Islam, there is nothing to say. The Quran itself says Allah turned the Jews into swine. You being an apologist will never condemn this. Similar to Al Lieszeera, which does recon for Hamas.

I don’t know about you, but if I was given a choice between employing:
1 A low IQ three wheeler driver
                  2 A Technician
3 A fake engineer who claims that a 1 volt battery can kill him.

This is the problem with stupid people. They think in binary and absolute terms. The BBC article I linked to before (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2804257.stm) says “Even if the current were insufficient to provide a genuine shock, it may have felt warm, a bizarre tingle to the touch of the unsuspecting finger.”

Remember, it’s you who went on a tangent with your personal information. As long Jester, is concerned we all know him well. He is the only guy gives tens of up-votes for utter filth. Ruchira makes a good point. It is ILLEGAL for unqualified people, such as “Chiv”, to dispense medical advice online. CT admin should take note of this, to avoid any potential liability. Those who have some medical ailment should consult a professional physician with proven credentials.

                  Hello Lester,
                  Complete Boll*cks,
How many so called Ayurvedic Charlatans and Mystics are doing this very thing every day not just here in Sri Lanka but in many other Countries. If you don’t have your bed facing in the right direction all sorts of ills will befall you. Pour this in the River and Covid will disappear. Lets have a look and see if Mars is in Aquarius and then you can safely go to Hospital for that Operation you need. Don’t have a shower if you have a Virus. Don’t open your shop unless the Juju man gives you an auspicious time. The list goes on forever. An opinion is not Medical Advice.
In my opinion this unbalanced behaviour by both of you is evidence of your detachment from reality and necessitates a visit by a professional wielding a straitjacket.
                  Best regards

                    Scot,

You seems you don’t understand the Asian culture that well. It’s not only in Sri Lanka that these practices occur. In S. Korea, they have their own traditional medicine. Ancestor worship is very common.

                    https://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/jmnet/koreajoongangdaily/_data/photo/2007/06/11014600.jpg

The food is meant to show respect to the ancestors.

The astrological chart is also there: https://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/South_Korea

Maybe these practices seem funny to you, being a Westerner.

“In my opinion this unbalanced behaviour by both of you….”

It is said that this female diplomat abused her housekeeper, keeping in her captivity, for 3 years without paying a reasonable salary. The Australian Government Court has ordered to pay Himal A more than 543,000 Australian dollars as punishment.
The biggest joke is that this diplomat is currently the Permanent Representative to some world affairs in Geneva. Such is our Sri Lankan figures in international arena as of today. They have qualified all over the world, but their human nature has been eroded. Scot,

“show me where I have written anything in support of Islam.”

You refuse to condemn the marriage of Muhammad and Aisha. You also referred to Muhammad using the acronym “PBUH.” Not very atheist of you. A true atheist of the likes of Bertrand Russel would condemn all religions as bollocks and label any “prophet” – Jesus/Muhammad/etc – as charlatans.

You mistook my comments on “Ravana.” Everything the Indians claim he built was built by some Sinhalese king. Tunnels, palace, pool, etc. Ramayana is just another story of yet another Indian invasion. Unfortunately Gotha was not around at the time to raise an army.

“and that includes your own “New Age Mysticism”

I don’t subscribe to any religion. But paranormal phenomena cannot be dismissed on the basis of empiricism alone, when empiricism itself is limited to sense perception.

“Everything the Indians claim he built was built by some Sinhalese king.”
So Ravana was not a Sinhalese king, but an Indian woman? I always suspected that, thanks for the info, Lester. You’ve finally done something useful.
You have also explained why there were no named ancient Sinhalese engineers. It was ancient Tamil contractors from Tamilnadu who did the work, and the Kings got themselves into the Mahavamsa, just as King MR did in Hambantota and Mattala.
And of course, funding was provided by followers of PBUH.

        Brantha,

They don’t want to answer. They come up with cute expressions like “Islamaphobia.” If someone has cancer, the solution is to terminate the cancer cells, rather than just managing symptoms with medications like sleeping pills. Sri Lanka went through the same thing. Trying to micromanage a democratic country in the South while fighting a civil war in parallel in the North. You cannot do that forever; eventually you will go bankrupt, as war drains the forex reserves. Israel is now in the same boat. It will have to eventually go to war with Iran (directly or indirectly), or face the possibility of bankruptcy.

        Brantha,

The tactful ones in 2004 were the LTTE and the JVP. I have no idea who were the biggest. JVPers have done much more damage to this nation than LTTEers in hindsight.
        .
LTTEers are mostly HINDUS. JVPers are Sinhala Buddhist barbarians (they are Buddhists only on paper). JVPers fed the injured close relatives of the families with the flesh and bones of their own sons… can you imagine the extent of barbaric acts practiced by LALKANTHA or similar fascists in 89-92?
        .
These two forces and their acts of terror killed thousands of innocent people. SUNIL HANDUNETTI and AKD come from poor backgrounds. Natural envy and jealousy are deeply rooted in their childhood.

I myself witnessed at Peradeniya University how JVPers and Peratugami led the brutal atrocities and made us all “naked” in front of so called senior fellow students. By what right do they possess such physical assaults on young and fresh students coming to university? THESE men should be hanged by strict enforcement of law and order. This is where the solution for a better Sri Lanka begins. That is what I feel having worked in civilized countries for the last 30 years.
        .
SRILANKA will soon become Nicaragua when the JVP leader (WEDA BARI TARZON) is elected next month. I dont have any sympathy to this nation any more. THey cut their neck by their own. Basta.
        :
Unfortunately this country is very prone to disasters.

        Hello Brantha,
        I will answer your question.
Depending on whether you take the USA proscribed list or the United Nations you will find that the majority are either ISIS/ISIL or Al Qaeda affiliates plus some Jihadi Groups. In Africa you will also find groups like the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) that are not connected with Islam. In the Philippines you will find the Communist Party also listed as a Terrorist Organisation.
Now obviously your question was to show the links between Islam and Terrorism. In the 20th Century groups like the Red Brigades, Baader-Meinhof Gang, ETA and the Shining Path had nothing to do with Islam. In the Balkans Muslim men and boys were massacred in the Srebrenica massacre. So what changed?
Who went to war against Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya etc? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_modern_conflicts_in_the_Middle_East
The US is involved one way or another in many of these conflicts. Right now they are financing and arming the Israeli Genocide in Gaza and the illegal encroachment/theft by Settlers into the West Bank.
Many people in the US are very worried that the Current Middle East situation could escalate into a larger Middle East War or worse. https://www.cato.org/commentary/us-barreling-toward-another-war-middle-east#

Migrants were always an issue and are still.
Despite Islamophobia being a core issue of hate politics, Islamic fundamentalism is still a weapon in the hands of imperialism to target secular and progressive forces.

Morality has gone out the window. People don’t know what’s right or wrong anymore. Literally kids are getting involved in violence.

As a whole, humanity is losing empathy. If freedom is the license to offend, antagonize, harm and oppress other people in the society even by speech, then it cannot be called freedom anymore – at least it is my standard.

The root of the problem is that people have no standard to differentiate what’s right from wrong. If the youth of a society think literally anything is permissible until caught, tried and sentenced/dismissed, then that society has much bigger problems.
In this regard, I think the whole world is already facing
problems due to the absence of morality in some way.

It all comes down to “what’s the right thing to do?”, at any given moment both as a collective and an individual sense.

    • 4
      0

      Ameen,
“the absence of morality in some way”
Freedom, the right to live on the born land, is top of any morality. Why those talks about morality keep the cattle and hens in their prison, kill and eat them, while they plead, beg, struggle to escape. In someone’s thoughts, if there are two legs, it deserves special treatment; some do not accept having two legs alone entitles them for special privileges (on grace or cruel side). In Sinhala Buddhism, Buddha’s teaching of all living things is equal is misunderstood, as “all are” pen’s hen, or farm’s cattle; rear them in cages the “all are equal things” and reap them, is the Sinhala Buddhists’ verdict. A religion was Never endorsed by any kind of referendum. No religions bind anybody in any circumstances. Religions have no jurisdictional authority, whether the country is a member who accepts the UN Charter or not. UN must obligate it to interfere in that country who fails to accept freedom of the living in their birthplaces. That part cannot be sublet to any religion to administer.
True religions insist not have any authority to interfere in any way of another’s life. In an organized society, their social contract prevails. This is the local government and international agreements.

Sinhala Buddhists didn’t have any explanation to deport the Tamils working in Ceylon’s Estates after they have signed the Soulbury Constitution which had S 29, the protection of minorities from being hurt by majority. Nobody other than Sinhala Buddhist put the signature in Kandyan accord to hand over the country without a referendum. When Britain was returning it Soulbury constitution was the deed on that. There were no provisions for the eventually added slavery provisions like deportation, Sinhala Only, standardization. Tamils have had every possible justification to oppose in all ways those who sent the armed rapist army and police to pull out the women and children out of their homes, strip all their passion, put then cargo boats and send them to unknown land. We will never accept the Tamils fight for freedom from Sinhala Buddhism was terrorism. We accept there could have been retaliatory excesses from Tamil side. But those not like rape and plant bombs in private parts or using cluster bombing or chemical bombing. But Tamils are always ready to come to any recognizable international place for the arbitration for that, outside of enemy’s oppressive juridical quarters. Britain always responsible for kidnapping indentured workers and leave them in hand of their enemies and wash off their hands.

    • 5
      0

Countries, which recognize humanity, must set up an organization to secure repatriation for the indentured workers abandoned by British entrepreneurs and government in an unsecured situation. Britain set a case against Prime minister Heath, long after the incident. In that line, they must set up a commission to find out what went wrong in Lord Soulbury’s actions in Ceylon.

Evil started his election campaign as “The IMF accord I drafted must be implemented as it is by those who win the election; otherwise, they will face serious consequences. “Come on, Dr. Evil, did you put your Kandyan Accord for referendum? You like it or not, this election is the referendum on that. Your victory or loss is the people’s ‘Yes or No’ for that referendum. Don’t expect your tear gas bombs and water cannon fire engines to come with you to the other world when you go there.”

Further, he says that the doctrine of “Sinhala Buddhism” is embedded and engraved in Junius Richard’s constitution, whoever comes to power must implement it. But it was Evil who set up his acolytes to file a case that the 19A was not put to referendum, so the 5-year term is not valid? If you have studied law, the Tamils’ culture, “Thesawalamai” has been binding law for centuries in Ceylon’s courts. Sinhala Buddhism is not an accepted code of law.

Islamophobia Is A False Alarm . It is true that Muslims are largely present in the
West and it is also True that It Is Politics of The West . Muslims are the next
largest religion in the world after Christianity . Muslims are religiously close to
the West and the richest society in the globe after the West . So , they are the
most preferred immigrants to them . When they , the Muslims come to the West
they not only bring talents and skills , Their Religion comes too in their package
and Mosques Are Built and Licenced to operate so that they feel comfortable and
happy to work and live . There’s too much into this to explain in detail but it is
benefitting all sides and it is a Wonderful Living Experience although a section of
Natives may look at these arrangements from a different angle . That is democracy
and the govt in UK did everything to bring the situation under control . People are
free to look at it from many angles and this is my take . UK people are generally
wonderful people and here , I am not talking about their centuries old history or
how they get themselves involved in global affairs . They look after their people
    including the immigrants .

      “Muslims are the next
largest religion in the world after Christianity .” – So…?
      .
“West and it is also True that It Is Politics of The West.” – Are you suggesting that Muslims do not have their own politics?
      .
      “Muslims are religiously close to
the West and the richest society in the globe after the West” – All this I thought it was China. In any case if you are referring to the Middle East, all that wealth, its mostly from Oil, isn’t it? And burning fossil fuel is the single most immediate problem we are faced with as a species and a planet. Hardly impressive track record imv. Its threatening the very existence of the human species, and sustainability of the planet.
      .
      “So , they are the
most preferred immigrants to them ” – I thought the riots are particularly because the muslims were unwelcomed.
      .
      “They look after their people
including the immigrants .” – thrn how do you explain the backlash against them?
      .

Thanks for your views and questions . For all your questions , my
simple answer is , it is their politics and I made it clear in my
comment . Anti Immigrant organisations exist for well over fifty
years in Europe . In 80s , Rome had on its walls ‘ Estranieri fuori ‘
meaning , Foreigners Out ! Marie Le pen works on the same goal
There are reasons Muslims are welcome and unwelcome but the
truth is , Rulers in Europe want them and generally majority public
get on with them . ” Are you suggesting that Muslims do not have
their own politics ? ” Very good question but needs detailed long
response . I recommend you read ‘ Muslim Golden Age ‘ to find that
kind of detail . Once upon a time , they had their own politics . You
find it in history books . Arabs in history by Bernard Lewis can tell
you a lot . Your last question , you talk only about the backlash ,
what about Anti riot protests and arrests in hundreds ? Far right is
now everywhere in Europe . They have their reason and the rulers
have their reasons . Every government has an immigration policy in
place in Europe . ” All this I thought it was China .” Of course you find
enough Chinese now everywhere on top of China enjoying enough
exports to Europe that provide Chinese opportunities to sit and work
        in their own environment.

          Hello whywhy,
It has been a bit longer than fifty years. Have you not seen the sketch when :Romanes eunt domus” is corrected by the Centurion (John Cleese) into “Romani ite domum” and instructed to write 100 times on the walls? “Life of Brian”.
On a different Historical note, most of the Visible Stars in the night sky have Arabic Names.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arabic_star_names
Many Centuries before the Renaissance the Arabs had a culture that celebrated knowledge. These were extant in the 9th and 10th Centuries. Algebra and Algorithm are derived from Arabic mathematician Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī https://www.newscientist.com/people/muhammad-ibn-musa-al-khwarizmi/
Don’t tell Lester but much of Greek Scientific knowledge was preserved (and improved upon) by Arabs as outlined in “Pathfinders: The Golden Age Of Arabic Science: Al-Khalili, Jim”

          Whywhy,

You are painting red for the leaves and green for the flowers for the vines you are drawing. All countries welcome citizens whom they can count as useful. The word “Muslims” doesn’t fit here. I have a nasty skepticism in the saying “It is beautiful to have a multi-ethnic community” because it is vulnerable to so much bigotry. Until recent AI, in cities like New York, where more than 150 languages are spoken, communicating with the New Yorkers is alone a separate problem. Won’t it benefit them to chase out Orange, Pink, Blue, Crimsons, Green and keep only Whites? Unfortunately, jobless Allah has created too many hues. If you don’t want another Hitler war or even a small one like the Tamils Eelam liberation war, the UN has to be strengthened. Humanity must be upheld. Opportunistically, because the Middle East has abundant oil dollars, crying “Muslims, Muslims” is not a true concern of the world. During the 4/21 Jihadi war, Sinhala Buddhists killed one Muslim. Hezbollah bent the 55 OIC countries, to issue warnings of economic sanction over Langkang. But what happened to 2000 deaths in 1958, more than 1500 deaths in 1977, more than 3500 deaths in 1983 and a whooping 165,000 deaths in 2009? Tamils’ case nobody has any fruit in discussing that, so no justice for Tamils. Nobody bothers when CJ Mokan Pieris effectually declares that Tamils have no fundamental rights.
          .

Arab countries need much more of the other countries’ labor forces, than the West needs Arab counties’ labor or investments. But you can go to the West wearing Burka, but you can’t to Arabian countries without at least Hijab. If Muslims believe that these headdresses are truly Muslims and cannot walk out in the West without them, forcing non-Muslims to take Muslim symbols is sheer insult.

Think of this complex issue. Because this is American election time, without describing in detail, you might have read or heard all the relevant facts in the media. Because American has been letting in a small count of undocumented workers, 60% majority white worm cannot have abortion even in rape or incest. How do you connect and explain this “Mottanthalai and Mulanthaal” (the bald head and the knee) dilemma with your “All are welcome” slogan? If the 60% of the white men and women keep out the undocumented workers, they will be able to achieve the style of the life they like, i.e. abortion of unwanted pregnancy. People think in a zigzag way and do not think straightforwardly, they cannot separate the ideals in each issue individually,

              Hello Mallaiyuran,
Not all Arabic Countries are the same. All my female Colleagues in Qatar went bare headed in normal Western Clothes. Even my Muslim Colleague from Morocco dressed like any European Woman. They observed the local customs by not wearing what would be considered provocative dress. In the Hotel Swimming Pools no-one had any problems wearing bikinis.
Saudi was totally different, back then there was the Muttawa (Religious Police) enforcing Women’s Dress Codes and behaviour.
You have to remember that America is in many ways quite Barbaric. They still have a Death Penalty and even use methods that would be considered as inhuman in other countries (or the UN). They also have a significant population of extreme Right Wing Christian Zionists that want to get rid of the Secular State and make the Christian Religion compulsory.
Apart from the indigenous peoples like the Shawnee, Cherokee, Mohicans and Apache etc. the rest are all Immigrants. The Native Americans have been there for at least 20,000 years. Many of these Immigrants (mostly from Europe since the 1500s) have short memories and forget that they escaped Poverty, Wars and Discrimination to get a new life in the Americas.
