Four More Monks Remanded In Homagama Unrest

Four more monks who had surrendered to the Homagama police were remanded today by the Homagama Magistrate till March 1, 2016.

The monks, Biyagama Suseema thero, Pitigala Dhamma Vineetha thero, Mathuwagala Dhammasiri thero and Kirama Dhevinda thero were involved in a demonstration against the court ruling delivered on January 26th where the magistrate ordered Bodu Bala Sena’s Galagoda Atte Gnanasara be remanded for contempt of court and for also threatening the wife of Sandya Ekneligoda, wife of Prageeth Ekneligoda.

On January 27th, the Homagama Magistrate ordered police to arrest and produce all those involved in the protest near the court premises. The group including monks had also blocked the roads near the court preventing the prison bus carrying Gnanasara from leaving courts.

Currently some 10 monks are in remand over the protest.
