Close ally of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Viyathmaga front-liner (retired) Major General Chagie Gallage has begun a social media campaign to attack civil society activists Dambara Amila Thera and Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara.
On October 11, Gallage on his Facebook profile posted a picture of Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara with a comment in Sinhala: හිතන්න … මොනවා හිතන්නද … මුව නරියාන්ට කන්න දානවා හ¿රෙන්න. (Think? What is there to think.. other than feeding the wretch to jackals). 
Prof. Thenuwara and along with fellow civil activist Gamini Viyangoda filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal challenging the dual citizenship of SLPP Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa which was dismissed last 4 October. The duo were compelled to lodge a complaint at the Police Headquarters last October 08 after they received several death threats in connection with the court case.
Again last October 13, Gallage posted a highly defamatory post against Dambara Amila Thera with a comment in Sinhala: මුගෙ’ දෙක මන්ගලගෙ’ කටට දාල හප’පවන්න පොන්නයෙක් ඉන්නවා නම් මගෙ’ ආචාරය … (My salutations to any eunuch who will put his (Thera’s) two (testicles) into Mangala’s mouth and make him bite).
In 2018, Major General CP Gallage was denied visitor visa by the Australian Government on the grounds that “59 Division troops, under Major General Gallage, were responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Australian decision is based on certain UN and Human Rights Watch Reports cited in the Australian Government Report.”
In 2016, during meeting of security force commanders and divisional commanders chaired by Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera who was in Jaffna to launch the United National Front Government’s website to seek public views on the proposed new Constitution, Gen. Gallage earned Samaraweera’s wrath by proposing that a military representative must be included in the Consultation Task Force for Reconciliation Mechanisms (CTFRM) appointed to enforce the Geneva UNHRC resolutions. Minister Samaraweera not only scoffed at Gallage but a few days later, the latter was transferred out of Jaffna and appointed Director General of Infantry at Army Headquarters.
During the heyday of the Rajapaksa regime, Gallage, was once in charge of the Presidential Guard for then President Mahinda Rajapaksa. It is surprising to note that Gallage hails from a traditionally UNP family with his mother – Daisy Rathnawalie Nananayakka, serving at the UNP Headquarters as an accountant when it was located on the Galle Road and the family was close friends with one-time Party Chairman N.G. Panditharatne.

I have always wondered the reason people would support MR politically not withstanding all his known misdeeds . To my mind , anyone with an iota of good sense and judgement will see through his true nature. I have concluded thus:
1) They have something to personally gain in having MR in power (mostly financial gain). MR has never taken any action against fraudsters and miscreants (examples are many) and he even acknowledged that publicly (‘I have files with me’). Therefore, such (rogue) individuals will support MR and prefer to have MR in power as they can carry on with their nefarious activities, unhindered and unfettered.
2) They are Nationalist minded and falsely think MR is a saviour of the Sinhala Buddhist majority
3) They falsely think it was MR who saved the country from the wrath of LTTE and was the architect of the war victory (only partly true) – no one person can take credit for that outcome as many (including FM SF) contributed. At the culmination of the efforts of many, it so happened MR was the Head of State. MR is capitalising on that for Political gain.
4) Like the saying goes ‘ birds of a feather flock together’ – those who support him are of the same (devious and corrupt) mind set and wave length as MR.
5) MR has been successful in marketing himself and convincing gullible individuals with falsehood, deception, dishonesty, distortion and fabrication.
Anyone who is decent, respects the rule of law and shuns criminal activities in all its forms will rarely support MR and wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole. One can observe the type of folk who are around MR and make an assessment and conclusion as to their nature. It is said, one can be judged by the company one keeps.
So one can only suspect the caliber and character of the person mentioned in this article.
