Mount Lavinia Magistrate Mohammed Sahabdeen today ordered the Army to hand over all information and other documents connected to the assassination of Sunday Leader founder editor Lasantha Wickrematunge to the CID.
The order was issued to the Army Commander, after the CID presented several facts during a hearing this morning.
Several documents in relation to the investigation is in the possession of the Army Intelligence Unit.
The CID complained that even though a similar order was issued earlier to this effect, the Army had failed to hand over the relevant documents to the CID.
Wickrematunge was assassinated on January 8, 2009.

still remained in the hands of the army even after a new govt. was formed in Jan,2015. and why the judiciary did not get hold of these documents all these days and months. Sure, by the army intelligence would have said in their report that there was no one by the name of Lasantha Wickrematunga, who became a victim of a political murder,
although the people knew as to who murdered him on Jan 08th, 2009.
Mark my words, all these cases(none solved up to date) of political murders, corruption and nepotism will be passed on to the next govt.
and all cases will be thrown out of the court windows due lack of evidence and this is what the current govt. expects too and people

10 years of Rajapakse corruption has penetrated all levels of the civil service. Even the best of civil servants relented and joined hands in corruption. It has affected the mindset deeply. It will take far more than 2 years to fix the problem.
The independent commissions are now kicking into effect. The courts and the police are starting to do their jobs. The leadership is fighting politics to make this happen. Once the ball starts rolling properly we will see all corrupt politicians behind bars.

The indiscipline from within the ranks to resist justice, inquiries and investigation as worrisome. There was a hue and cry made by the JNT.OP members of Parliament and Buddhist clergy that Mr. Sampanthan tress passed army camp. He will be last man to do such a thing as he is a veteran in politics and a lawyer, who knows the laws.
Its still a mystery for the Tamils as why the lands cannot be released

This court order is a joke. Other than documents to be given to the CID, this order should also give access to interrogate Army officers, CID access to camps, CID undercover operatives unlimited access to search and seizure inside of camps, authority to run wire taps under classified court orders, forensic audit and access to Army financial accounts, access to their communication equipment and vehicle logs. All these Army officers that are allegedly involved in the coverup of Lasantha’s murder or stalling CID investigations by heavy handed tactics have their regular paid assassins/mercenaries on speed dial. They have links with the PSD (Presidential Security Division) and links to those at Madamullna. These assassins are mainly deserters who now engage in taking on private contracts to the underworld, offer VIP security services to politicians, drug barrens and businessmen. One can imagine the extent of their criminal mindset. Those responsible behind this cowardly and gruesome murder of Lasantha should be brought to justice, denied paroled and hanged.
