The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, met with the Chief Minister and Governor of the Northern Province in Jaffna this morning. Following the meetings, High Commissioner visited the Nallur Kovil in Jaffna.

Justice – The UN reports say that more than 40,000 innocent civilians
killed during the last few days of the war by use of heavy artillery,
not supposed to use in civilian conflicts while others put it to over
100,000. Paranagama report states that 7 – 10 people got killed and UN claim is a myth and our own PM Ranil says not to take serious note of
this as death of civilians do occur during internal armed conflicts,
not realising that civilians were the target.
Some say that the civilians were deliberatively attacked while some say they got caught to cross fire. So, whom should we believe.? UN should give an answer and to get the answer,UN should hold an unbiased inquiry headed by international judges, who will be impartial in their judgement.

I believe PM Ranil mentioned that while the casualty figure are at somewhat at odds, nevertheless it is important to determine the figure and he did mention that “we are interested in finding out the actual number”. That I believe is a fair statement but, of course, whether he means what he says is another matter altogether.

UN is to probe all deaths and missing for years that is well over 100,000 as the 40,000 is the minimum estimated number. We want to see the Sri Lankan war criminals executed like in Bangladesh in the Sinhalese want reconciliation.

4,000 missing number is from a small village and not the entire Tamil population as CV Vigneswaran did not collect missing from Vanni. In total over 150,000 Tamils disappeared and a full scale international investigation is required to find the TRUTH.
No one can expect the TRUTH from the Sinhalese or Sinhalese investigation as they have been telling lies since independence and no miracle is going to happen now.
We learn today that 36344 war widows in Batticaloa and almost all rehabilitated people cannot work or do anything due to electric shocks, other cruel and so called terror psychological treatment by the regime that must be investigated by the International community.

U.N.High Commissioner for Human Rights has said in Jaffna that granting General Amnesty to Tamil political prisoners is not the right way and he has said so in Syria too and that they should go through the normal process of trial in Courts. What he has said may be correct in the normal circumstances. However in the case of Tamil political prisoners most of them have served many years, some even more than 15 years without having been indicted and hence no trial at all. In some cases they have already served a period which is equivalent to a period of ‘life sentence’.In certain cases trial has dragged on for years.In one case I remember trial was postponed date after date until an ASP before whom the so called ‘confession’ was taken returned from abroad where he was serving under the U.N.Therefore it is only fair that they be granted ,General amnesty. This was done in the case of JVP, EPRLF etc. earlier and some of them are MPS now.I wonder why CVW who knows about this did not explain it to the Commissioner. They think justice system in ‘Sri Lanka’ works like in the advanced countries. Rememberhow Justice Mohan.P.functioned!

The judges of Apartheid South Africa, were biased against the “blacks” and others because of; the “superiority” of whites talked by parents at home. taught by teachers at schools from chiildhood and racism repeated by the media.
So is the nurtured bias of the Sinhalese judges against Tamils in Sri Lanka(SL). The judges in topmost positions were the worst, also manipulated by Sinhala politicians to be unjust.
The Indo-Sri lanka agreement (ISA) of 1986 stipulated that;
a) The North and East provinces be combined as one
b) The people of the East, if wished, should separate, by a referendum, within one year of the ISA accord.
The referendum was never held but GOSL decided illegally, unilaterally and covertly to separate the East from the North, by appointing Sarath Silva, Chief Justice, to hear the trial and decide for the separation of N&E.
During the trial the obvious irregularities were;
a) The ISA was ignored
b) Submission by TNA was disallowed without reasons.
c) Ridiculous reason that Tamils had different cultures in the N&E was pronounced.
The UNHRC should ask, for a copy of the record of the proceedings of this trial, to see as to how the Sinhalese judges are biased against Tamils.

Dear All
If UNHRC wants the detained persons to face trials which will be dragged/postponed many a times for a long time by the courts, how can these poor people pay for lawyers, even a non famous attorney. Some detainees were dragged and imprisoned just because they did not give their daughters for the sexual pleasure of the army brutes.
The UNHRC should assign councils for defense. The hearing should be time bound.
