If You Want Elections, Come To Parliament And Present Motion: Ranil Tells UPFA

UNP Leader and ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today challenged the UPFA to present a motion in Parliament if they think a General Election is necessary.

Speaking to the media from Temple Trees, Wickremesinghe said they were ready to go for an election with the consent of all political parties in Parliament. “We have nothing against holding elections. If all political parties are in favour of an election, how can we oppose?  Wickremesinghe asked.

“However, before any election,” the UNP Leader said, “there has to be a legal government in the country.  It is the legislature that has the power to dissolve Parliament. The President only gets that power four and a half years after the Parliament’s first meeting. This is clearly stated in the constitution.”

“Those who are afraid of elections attempt to hold elections under illegal governments. They are scared to hold elections under a lawful government and a democratic framework,” he added.

“The President and all political parties are duty-bound to protect the Constitution. If someone finds it hard to protect the Constitution and adhere to its framework, they have no right to remain in office,” Wickremesinghe said.

“Even Hitler said he had the people’s support. He went on to change the Constitution based on the notion of his massive public support. Some dictators won elections and referendums with resounding majorities. But, what matters is whether your actions are in line with the law, not the popular support” Wickremesinghe explained.

“Those who talk about Kosovo, don’t even know where it is located. They don’t even know the difference between Kosovo and “Kos Gas,” Wickremesinghe said, responding to a statement issued by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, last Sunday.

“This game has to stop now. If they continue to violate the Consitution, we have to consider them the enemies of the Constitution,” Wickremesinghe said.

Machang Lapatiya, don’t you think Ranil is a Free Mason, perhaps an Illuminati, otherwise, why should the rest of the UNP fear him so much?

Bondscam Ranil must be impeached and the full Report of the PCOI into Bondscam at Central Bank of Sri Lanka released immediately.
It is Bond Ranil and his partner in crime, Mahinda Jarapassa, who RW protected for the past 3 years (in order to loot the people of Lanka), and asset strip and sell the country’s resources to his Trump land sovereign bond traders, who are responsible for the Culture of Impunity and immunity for corrupt politicians who commit financial crimes against the people of Sri Lanka.
Also, New York Times with its stringers who are curating WAR stories and Fake News never focus on geopolitics in the Indian Ocean, the US Peace Corps in Sri Lanka or Trumpland’s representative, Bondscam Ranil, the looting of Central Bank and the debt trap and crashing rupee as the source Lanka’s problems or the Peace Corps and US Economic Hit men including MCC an IMF who are drafting Bondscam Ranils policies.

He’s in a deception now that president’s kindness not to drag him out of the temple trees & some blood injected to the UNP in some indirect ways will carry him to victory.

Thanks for your “yes” for elections & get ready to pack your things @ temple trees.

      UPFA,

Yes. Put the motion for the dissolution of the parliament and get 2/3 majority, as it is not 4 and 1/2 years yet from the last election, per 19A.

Have Sri Lankan rulers strictly adhered to the rule of law since independence? I can quote several instances of violation. The current one is the latest, but may not be the last violation.

So mush for rulers of Sri Lanka upholding the laws and the constitutions.

“Appeh Aanduwa” has morphed into mage aanduwa!

No real democracy for 70 years. Let’s muddle through with regimes with scanty respect for the rule of law.

Exactly, if they think that the election is the only what people expect right at the mo,ment, we should go for it under a legitimate govt.

If Rajakshe’s Junta Regime appointed by TINPOT DICTATOR SIRISENA forces to go for election, we the ones behind the democracy must not commend it.

All we want is to resolve the crisis first and then go to elections under a legitimate govt.

Not only RAJAKASHE, but SIRISENA too has proved enough that they would never respect the constitution, nor law and order prevailing in the country. Alone, President to request ministry secretaries not to take serious the decisions made by supreme/appeal courts is beyond all ethics and morals.

Mahinda Rajapakse and his Pohottuwa cohorts are scared to death of an election under a legal government. If the go to an election under a legal government, they are definitely doomed to lose for they cannot misuse power and resources.

Now they want to stay in power under the fake government and hold an election so that they use state machinery and resources to distort the outcome of the election for their benefit.

    Give power to JVP .
Sri Lanka will be Singapore in 10 years time .

  • 7

    PART ONE
    .
What Ranil is saying here is correct. Mahendra Rajapaksa’s people ought to come to Parliament and make the request.
    .
I’m trying to look at this objectively, but that can only be done if I first acknowledge my subjective preferences. I would like to see National Reconciliation, leading to Economic Progress. MaRa achieved something important by defeating the LTTE, but he did so with uncalled for brutality, and by raising communal tensions.
    .
Both the UNP and the Rajapaksas looted the country. My3 is not in a fit state of mind to do anything, so elections may not be a bad thing, but it has to be done the proper way with a two-thirds majority.
    .
And the realpolitik may also work in favour of something like this. Many voters rally towards the party that appears to have the best chance of winning. This is so in any country. In this instance, there will be considerable pressure for the UNP to agree to elections if, in the interim period, there is time for all sides to properly prepare for elections. If they dodge too long, voters are likely to conclude that the UNP fears that it has little support.
    .
That elections must be held only in keeping with the Constitution, but if a party has no support it can’t govern effectively. How do you assess that position except by asking every citizen? However, can you go against what the Constitution prescribes merely because some vociferous people scream it out? It’s a dilemma. But the situation is getting dangerous now for us all.

  • 2
    0

    PART TWO
    .
To take up a position on this sort of problem, while pretending that one has no personal preferences is wrong. I have already indicated that I don’t think that the Rajapaksas can take us anywhere meaningful.
    .
The same applies to Ranil. My3 acted foolishly and he has to face up to that fact. His stubbornness can be understood; unfortunately we cannot allow him to get away with it. He is the President of the country. He must now act at a different level, forgetting his personal discomfitures. He did wrong in sacking Ranil in the way he did. Worse, he overlooked the fact that almost everyone who voted for him did so rejecting MaRa. He then had no right to impose MaRa on them.
    .
I would also like to see a younger, cleaner man than Ranil leading the UNP. Over the years people with bases only in Colombo have manipulated the UNP to lead the party by displaying huge majorities in the capital areas. I don’t have any clear idea as to who should lead the party, but it’s time for change. I have suggested names, but I realise that my own evaluations may not hold good.
    .
So, the only fair course of action for the various forces is to send the 225 M.P.s to the Parliament and see if two thirds of them will realise that they can’t go against the wishes of the public.
    .
Complicating this is the fact that a sizeable number of M.P.s want to hold on until they qualify for their pensions. What selfishness, and what corruption!

Can you blame them for holding on to their seats? This is not just in Srilanka alone. Until there is clear evidence that the country is heading in the right direction, one cannot expect true loyalty from the average mp.

Is there a calm being felt before the storm? Or is the storm has crawled in so naturally, so it looks like clam? News says New King consulted AG. Later news shows ministers’ responsibilities given to Permanent Secretaries. Our knowledge so far has indicated that AG’s professional legal advises was barely anything better than Sumanadasa Abeygunawardena’s readings. If this is another advice of AG, then God Damn it; it is another wreck on the path of democracy. This is practically the literal autocracy.
Appeal Court was aware that it was interdicting even the remaining shady government and it provided space for the authority to appoint new personnel for the position vacated by the judges. Judges had expressed the necessity of existence of a government, representing the people. That advice is basically for New King. But he rejected it and consulted the AG.
    New King:
1).As UPFA’s Chairman, irresponsibly repudiated the “unity government contract” one sided,
    2).Appointed a PM illegally,
3). Dismissed the functioning government and PM without reason,
4).Appointed criminals in government, improperly, while over them pending cases existed,
5). Followed additional unconstitutional action by unnecessary interference in the operation of Parliament and its Speakers affairs, while parliament was following the proper protocols,
    6). Refused to accept NCMs,
7). Refusing to accept a duly selected PM, who has parliamentary majority,
8). He is considering to appoint another UPFA minority members again, which is in the Appeal Court’s opinion is more damaging and it has put a halt to the earlier appointment.
Country is now a rudderless boat. Boatman has to pay attention to the situation and immediately rectify the deficiency of situation. Leave aside the imbecile consultations of the immature AG, time for New King to heed to the judges advice as the last warning before the disaster strike.

If normalcy is not restored immediately then as the short term consequence many precise human lives could be lost like in 1983 Black July anti-Tamil pogrom. But in the long term, country’s economic system will limp for years by sanction of shackles and ball clung to it. The EP’s narrow focus of running the ministries with PSs is showing his inability perceive the Island as part of the world community. His behaviors reflecting a sense of that he is still remaining as a Gamarala Thaththa, not a Janadhipathi Thaththa.

Some of his recent talks are unbelievably moronic for his status. He falsely confessed that he lied to voters that Old King was targeting to murder him during the last election. Everybody understands that there was a reasonably high risk he encounters during the last election and now he is lying about that only to have him liberated from the reporters who questioned of his illogical actions. His new lie didn’t offer any new prove for the logic reasoning for his recent actions but it made the whole Island to question his sanity. Emboldened by his initial fraudulent behaviors, he accused that Ranil, Ponny and RAW were plotting against him. This ended up him making a panic call to India to deny it, when the message reached PM Modi. Locally people are skeptical of either Ranil or Ponny is plotting to murder anyone. But that was not the case with Old King, in 2015. Yahapalanaya government has locally and internationally has earned a name of making white van as the past. Contrary to that believe, his accusation on his team is a serious damage to the path he & them came across.

He split from earlier president (2015) complaining that he could not work with him. Now he is telling that he cannot work with his PM. Based on his past experience, he should have foresight this is situation before he submitted him for EP candidature. Interesting latest his action is trying to grab somebody from UPFA to dress up as PM doll for his puppet show. But we show nobody from UNP was willing to sell them for him, clearly seeing what damage that would do to their political future. He might have agreed to CBK abandon his clan to travel on this lonely desert road. But how many out there that they don’t understand that democratic politics is about popular support.
The whole world is seeing that the problems are emancipating from the Presidential House; not from the Parliament. A parliamentary election is not solution here. The solution appears here to be he can call a presidential election or he could resign so the Speaker can take it over.
If these radical twists and turns are because of he is worried about the UN Electric Chair (UNHRC sitting on March 2019), time for him to become the witness for the justice. All along in his career, he has been the number one Judas for the country and clans he associated. He waiting for Dec,7th judgment & firing his next rocket against that verdicts is not going to save him from UNHRC.
Probably he is seeing the God sent angel is knocking at his door to help him wash his karma before he takes his final journey. Then our advice is: “take his hand & travel on the path he guides you. As a Buddhist, if you do it, the debit & the credits of the account your life in this world will be balanced. Your last journey will be burden free – light and enjoyable experience”.

The proposed Motion should not be passed in a hurry as it will set another bad precedent. The crisis should be resolved within the current circumstances themselves without going further.

Oh, I was not referring to this Motion. I was referring to the other Motion to be tabled by some UNP MPs at the request of the President. They should not pass it in a hurry as the President is not trustworthy.

The UPFA and the President were criticizing the No Confidence Motions claiming they were not carried out according to the prescribed procedure. They were finding fault with the way the NCMs were conducted. Now Ranil is inviting these same persons who want out of season elections to be held to follow the correct procedure if they want elections now. Let them also follow the correct procedure and present a motion in parliament to that effect. What is correct procedure for the goose is correct procedure for the gander.

In addition to the known fetishes, Ranil seems to be a masochist too!

Otherwise what sane man who has lost 29 elections challenge his opponents to bring another one on?

The man is not only lethargic and incompetent, also tactless.

The best thing Sirisena did for the country was ridding it of this kalakanniya.

Well, it’s a success story of the president Maithripala Sirisena to take the UNP for an election.

So our heartfelt thanks to the president for his efforts, starting from sacking the PM & consequent events.

It’s well known that UNP has never been ready for an election especially since tasting the humiliating defeat in the LG elections.

UNP & RW lost mandate when MS faction of the unsuccessful gg government withdrew from it as the mandate had only been given for president & PM to go together.

Since that day till he was sacked, RW had been a fake PM in a minority government propped by racially based parties, according to democratic thought of any wise.

As a matter of fact respecting the constitution is the duty of every citizen but Sri Lankans now know the consequences of casting blind eye to hurriedly &/or deceptively introduced amendments to the constitution without demanding a referendum.

The 78 constitution had paved the way for the president to dissolve the house after an year of commencement in the journey of 5/6 years.

How ridiculous it is to handcuff the president for 4 1/2 years in the journey of 5 years to dissolve the house; had better grab the total right of the president’ dissolving the house & enable the house to dissolve it in simple majority.

Nobody has violated the constitution except almost all the MPs in the house by introducing an evil amendment to the constitution called the 19th one.

I firmly believe this comment doesn’t amount to violation of constitution & probably it’s constructive view on behalf of the people of Sri Lanka.

    Dear Ranil Wickremasinghe,
Once again the Tamils and Muslims of North East Srilanka saved the country’s soverignity, democracy and judiciary from those fake patriotism and dictatorship of a family despite the majority of Sinhalese stood with the fake partiots and cheaters. You should understand that Tamils and Muslims are always strongly in support of a united Srilanka. They love this land as much as Sinhalese of this land. It is time for Sinhalese leadership to realise this truth and liberate the Sinhalese massess to come out from the dark under the influence of fake patriotism. There is no difference between UNP and SLFP influencing the masses with lies and fake patriotism.
Ranil you are a failure for long time and it is time for you to retire and hand over the UNP to some one who can get the trust of the people and lead the country for all the people, not for few people. I am sure you will do that before the next election and get respect from all the people.

I will accept calling for early elections if somebody gives me a meaningful answer to the following,,,

If UNF wins the next General elections and it is RW is their PM candidate then president will still not appoint him. In that case will have to go for another election until we get a PM whom he prefers ?

    • 0
      0

Regardless of election results the President must appoint a Prime Minister. It all depends on the courts decision on appointment of PM which should be settled by then.

No need for another election it is between the President and SC then. The SC cannot force the President to do anything, only rule if it is constitutional. The President might simply refuse to act. We have to wait then for elections

When it comes to Presidential and General elections I have always voted for the UNP, but when it comes to the Local Government elections I cast my vote to a known person since we need their assistance for our area development. Even this time my vote for an independent group.

Ranil Wicks is main man who behind violated and undermined Democratic Socialist Republic of that Constitution in many ways and means last three years and 8 months, since 2015 January 8th.

In spite of that RW- UNP is most politically corrupted leader in Island that is NOT accepts by that World Western Democracies…. ..
But that ruling classes of that UK, Canada, Australian New-Zealand and Indian including USA NOT that accepts naked corruptions of committed by UNP of RW.
In fact large scale financial crime committed by RW’s of UNP has been that looted of public of Funds of Central Bank of Bond scam been billions of Ruppes. But that bank robbery denied by Ruling classes of Western Nation.

The West concept of that criteria of and having different measurement, by saying corruptions of Ranil Wicks of UNP is not that. In according to West that RW one and only leader the RW is “most an eligible Democratic leader” in our soil. That is double stand of democracy of Western nations.

They wanted to cover-up this Central Bank scam of Ranil Wicks of UNP govt. While West want to focus of “majority Parliaments of members”, want cover-up issues of CB bond that billions money to misled of millions of voters in Island -wide .

West has paid millions of dollars to jepozided and crated that chaos in Sri Lankan that new games rules playing by speaker of the Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament run of jungle laws. By function of chamber that norms denied by UNP, TNA ,MC and JVP’s overrule by Speaker wanted to destabilization Parliaments.

The Speaker of house that duty is mainly role of played irresponsibility. That is Not accepting by Speaker of norms and standing order has been unusual practices in the Parliament.

Debates on elections is of secondary importance.
