The huge reduction of national flags on buildings this year must mean people no longer fear the uneducated filth and their white vans?

Amarsiri noticed that most of the men and women were obese, and some were fat. Interestingly, President Sirisena was one of the “normal” leanest guys. Even some of the children seem to be obese.

They are becoming fat, lazy and more diabetic by eating too much sugar, Sucrose, and drinking soda, with high fructose corn syrup, and getting insulin sensitivity, with too much fat in their livers and worsened by the lack of exercise and laziness.

      Rising diabetes in Sri Lanka

One in five adults has either diabetes or pre-diabetes and one-third of those with diabetes are undiagnosed, reveals one of the first nation-wide studies to be conducted in Sri Lanka. This has startling implications for the spread of the disease here.

Diabetes can adversely affect almost every organ in your body – from your brain cells to your liver. Responsible for a staggering number of amputations, diabetes has also been known to lead to impaired vision and heart attacks. It’s a frightening disease, made even more so by the fact that its incidence in Sri Lanka seems to be increasing.

      More women than men:

Some of the results of the study weren’t surprising says Dr. Katulanda: urban populations (16.4%) display a higher incidence over rural populations (8.7%). The switch from rural to urban living almost always includes an upgrade to bigger portions of fattier foods but often includes a steep drop in activity level – both recognized as major contributing causes to diabetes. Reflecting these findings, the Western Province had the highest rates of incidence while the Uva Province had the lowest. Also well known is the relatively low incidence of Type 1, insulin dependent diabetes (4.4% in Sri Lanka); but that more women (10.9%) have diabetes than men (9.8%) in Sri Lanka was something of a surprise.

    CT,

RE: Independence Day Celebration – Watch Live

Thanks for giving the link for the 69th Independence Celebrations of the Paras, who have been at each other’s throats in the Land of Native Veddah Aethho.

    1. Are the Paras maturing, and learning to live together as Paras with dignity for each other and recognizing each other in the Land? If so, this is a better beginning.

    2. Very good to see the National Anthem being sung in both Para-Sinhala at the beginning and concluding the ceremonies by singing the National Anthem in Para-Tamil, by the school children. Good Governance, Yahapalanaya, is certainly making progress towards reconciliation between the Paras. Quite a ways to go, but thee is Chinese saying that a journey of a thousand miles stats with the first step.

    3. Amarsiri noticed that most of the men and women were obese, and some were fat. Interestingly, President Sirisena was one of the “normal” leanest guys. Even some of the children seem to be obese.

    Why?

Because he was a former Gamarala, Farmer, who ate natural whole foods, and carried those habbits to the presidents office. (Mahinda Rahapakda was obese, and so was his wife, Shiranthi).

    4. They all need to give up sugar, high fructose corp syrup products, soda, coke etc. and need to exercise and do intermittent fasting. This will reduce their glucose levels, and their insulin levels and delay getting Type 2 diabetes that is becoming an epidemic worldwide, and the doctors, testing labs and pharmaceutical companies are making a killing.

Watch “The Skinny on Obesity” with Dr. Lustig: http://www.uctv.tv/skinny-on-obesity
Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin.
