ITAK To Take Disciplinary Action Against Sasitharan: Full Text Of Resolutions Passed By ITAK

Central Working Committee of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchi has yesterday decided to take disciplinary action against its Assistant Leader of the Women’s Wing, Ananthi Sasitharan over participating the protest which was conducted on February 21st in front of the bus depot in Jaffna and transporting Sumanthiran’s effigy to the location of the protest in her vehicle.

A resolution passed by the ITAK noted; “The Central Working Committee of the ITAK continues to observe the unwarranted and unacceptable steps being taken against its Senior Leader R. Sampanthan and Deputy General Secretary for International Affairs and ITAK Spokesman M. A. Sumanthiran in recent times within the Tamil homeland and in the diaspora.”

We publish below the two resolutions passed at the ITAK Central Working Committee;

Resolution 1

Ananthi Sasitharan

Ananthi Sasitharan

On this 1st of March 2015, the Central Working Committee of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchi considering the changed political environment prevailing after regime change in Sri Lanka, resolves to request the government to expedite action in respect of the following matters immediately, in accordance with the promises made at the Presidential elections:

The return of lands;

The release of political prisoners; and

Take steps in respect of the disappeared.

Further, we urge the government to resettle, in their own lands, those displaced by the war. Moreover, the Central Committee reiterates that the government must, without delay, commence appropriate measures in respect of an acceptable political solution to the ethnic conflict.

The Central Working Committee today endorses and accepts the steps taken by the leadership of the Tamil National Alliance in the changed political environment prevailing after the change of regime in Sri Lanka.

Resolution 2

The Central Working Committee of the ITAK continues to observe the unwarranted and unacceptable steps being taken against its Senior Leader R. Sampanthan and Deputy General Secretary for International Affairs and ITAK Spokesman M. A. Sumanthiran in recent times within the Tamil homeland and in the diaspora.

A protest was conducted on the 21 st day of February in front of the bus depot in Jaffna. The purpose of the protest was to demand truth in respect of the disappeared, the release of political prisoners and the release of the UN Report without delay. Hon. Suresh Premachandran MP of the Suresh Wing of the EPRLF which functions as a member of the TNA, and the Assistant Leader of the Women’s Wing of the ITAK Hon. Ananthi Sasitharan, participated at this event. On this occasion, an effigy burning of Hon. Sumanthiran MP took place, which was not envisaged and had no connection with the protest whatsoever. This effigy burning:

a) Rendered false the purpose for which people were mobilized and themselves mobilized to participate in the protest;

b) This incident which took place unexpectedly has falsely created the impression that those who eagerly participated in the protest were to blame for acting against Mr. Sumanthiran;

c) The collusion of TNA leaders in the above activities has brought into question the unity of the Tamil National Alliance.

It is of regret that Ms Ananthi Sasitharan transported the particular effigy to the location of the protest in her vehicle. It raises the question of her accountability to party discipline. The fact that the two individuals in question – Mr. Premachandran and Ms Ananthi Sasitharan – did not express regret over the incident suggests their willing involvement in it.

Further,Mr. Suresh Premachandran MP, has continued to criticize Mr. Sampanthan and Mr.Sumanthiran on many occasions. The Central Working Committee condemns these actions by Mr. Premachandran. This Committee must take disciplinary action against Ms. Ananthi Sasitharan who is herself a member. Mr. Premachandran has also acted irresponsibly in exercising the duties entrusted to him as Spokesman by the Parliamentary Group of the TNA. In this regard, the Central Committee calls on ITAK Members of Parliament to take action in respect of the abuse of his responsibilities.

The Central Working Committee also strongly condemns the burning of Mr. Sampanthan and Mr. Sumanthiran’s pictures outside the residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and in front of the American Embassy in London, during protests conducted by some members of the diaspora to seek support for a genocide inquiry against Sri Lanka. Moreover, the Central Working Committee condemns the actions of the former Deputy Chairman of the Valvettithurai Urban Council Sathees who set fire to the effigy of Mr. Sumanthiran in Jaffna.

    Is itak personal property of R.Sampanthan and back door entrant Sumanthiran who worried about their children’s welfare than that of the Tamil children in general. Where is the answer to Ananthi’s questions on the decision of supporting Maithiri officially by TNA. Is it personal decision of the Sampnthan-Sumanthiran duo or party resolution. Sampanthan and Sumanthiran are not indiviuals.They represent TNA. On whose decision they attended Independence day celebration. In sampanthans area Kanniya wells have become totally army dominated Sinhala area. Up to now has he done anything. Is TNA interested in its leaders or the people. Resolution 1 is camaflourge for resolution 2.
    If not for the diaspora eelam Tamils would have been forgotten by international community. I think TNA should chase Sampanthan Sumanthiran duo out and make Wigneswaran the leader

        TNA should reign in Sasitharan. TNA missed a Golden Opportunity to help the minorities of Lanka and indeed the whole country, when they turned down the offer of the Ministry for National Languages and Reconciliation post offered to Sumanthiran..

        Sasitharan is JEALOUS of Sumanthiran. There is a class/caste divide here. Tamils like Sasitharan who are ultra nationalist and don’t know how to get on with other communities are the worst enemies of the Tamil people.
        Sasitharn is an LTTE clone and narrow minded and JEALOUS.
        Sasithan and her types in the TNA are very jealous of Sumanthiran and the more enlightened leaders who have a national strategy to GENUINELY help Tamils gain their rights. Sasithan is represents the narrow minded and backward Tamil community which needs a MODERN EDUCATION and to learn to live with different communities including Muslims of Jaffna.

          Mandayan Kulu Suresh Premachandran tried to get power and make money by killing Tamils in late 80s. Ananthi Sasitharan married LTTE’s Elilan to achieve the same.
          Now Manayan Kulu and LTTE are gone, Suresh Premachandran’s and Ananthi Sasitharan’s last option is to burn R.Sampathan’s and M.Sumathiran’s photos to fool the Tamils and remain popular among their fellow Tamil idiots.
          Tamils should reject these 2 criminals in upcoming elections.

        Chanakyan: How dare are you to make such claim. Tamils should eternally be loyal to Tamil Eelam or those who fail to do so are traitors who would eventually be dealt with by the reincarnated glorious Tigers of Tamil Eelam. You should not forget how the great Thalaivar Velupillai Prabakaran maintained discipline among Tamils here and abroad. Traitors of Tamil Eelam should not take this temporary lapse as to their anti national, anti- Eelam misdeeds. KEEP THAT IN MIND. WE WILL BE BACK WITH VENGEANCE

          Lower the IQ, higher the probability of Making errors and being damaged or affected by the errors.

          In addition, the wealth of nations is somewhat co-related to IQ.

          There is some truth, but may not be whole truth.

      Sampanthan has acted in a dictatorial manner by attending the Independence celebrations without the approval of the party. Of Course Sumanthiran is a follower of Sampanthan whatever circumstances. Both are at fault in attending and should be taken up by the central committee. They should understand that they have broken a pledge taken by the former Tamil leaders and the people to boycott the celebrations since 1972. The Tamils have not got the freedom yet. There should be unity among the Tamils in Sri lanka or abroad. The voice shown for the Sri Lankan Tamils by some parties in South India is a matter of praise which the Sri Lankan Tamil leaders should look into.
      Taking action against Ananthy is utterly wrong. She may be having her own reasons like Sampanthan.

          Why only the Tamils? What about the Karawe fellows who came to catch fish from Kerala. What about the cinnamon peelers brought by the Portuguese? What about the Lion which came to bugger the mother bee of the Sinhalayas? What about the SL cricket team all of whom look so dark that they could be mistaken for West Indians and certainly are not Aryans. Don’t be stupid, Jim, old sod.

        Sella, Rather than scribbling on the wall, you should be prepared for the Eelam war 5. You can not help the glorious dream of Tamil Eelam by day dreaming and hallucinating. Get ready. Recruit kids. We need black Tigers. Without black tigers, tigers are toothless.

    ITAK and TNA taking first step to loose the people support and to loose in the forth coming election. They have forgotten the support
    Sasi brought to them. Otherwise another party would have garnered more votes. People won’t see what you talk but will what you do.

    I am not disputing that Ananthi’s good intension or genuine work of LTTE. Tamils in general supported their formation after fed-up with resist Sinhala governments – passing something and tear it after – killing Tamils to teach lessons for any one question them and so on. We have to accept that LTTE politically and diplomatically messed up things and due to that innocent people suffered a lot. All in all they are very weak in politics. You have to fight or go piece fully according to the ground situation. If Cv , Samb, Suman are doing something there may be some reason behind it. Why C.V refused to pass the resolution when MR was there and later agreed – that is politics. Ananthy is not experience enough to understand things like you and me (we are not professionals in that field). There is outside force trying to destroy tamil politics and we idiots should not help them like Karuna went behind ladies and destroyed us – think , like lord krisna says in mahabarath series

    The MP & the MPC are mere nobodies in the eyes of the Tamils resident and living abroad. When sacked by the TNA they cannot win even in a Pradeshiya Sabha election.

    In being tolerant and accommodative of anti party indiscipline for so long the TNA has erred on the side of mercy. Now the Party takes note of the people’s wrath.

    Prior to the July election 1960, even as the LSSP decided to extend support to the SLFP for the formation of the government, Robert Gunawardena got up in the meeting and opposed it violently. That day itself the Central Committee sacked him from the party.

    TNA has now to sack the two forthwith for their attempt to undermine the party and Tamil Unity.

    Hon.R.Sambandan and Hon.M.A Sumanthiran are travelling in the direction of Consensual Politics.The Tamils have been led up the garden path and left high and Dry by the Militant groups.Confrontational politics will not bring relief.What purpose does it serve to burn Effigies? As,reader AMARE has quite rightly remarked this is a war between Tamil Mootals and Tamils with common sense.

    Justice Wigneswaran, you gave in once to the LTTE Tiger Flag Diaspora demands by passing the Genocide Resolution. Once you have done it, the Diaspora is now remotely controlling Anandhi and Suresh, there is nothing to be surprised about it. You asked for it Justice. Now deal with it.

      Political baba Park,

      There was a bitter fight between Sumanthiran and Ananthi last year’s UNHRC meeting. Ananathi defied the TNA’s decision not to demonstrate on PM Cameron arrival. I could not agree with her on that. I had written somewhere else about it. It is not acceptable Ananathi taking part on anybody’s effigy burning. She is an elected member.

      Other than that she is the symbol of freedom fight in Federal Party. She went through innumerable harassment during NPC election. They entered into her house in the middle of the night with sinister motives. They printed Uthayan on her name. She did not relent like old FP leaders Naganathan, Vanniyasingham, Rayavarothayam, Rajamanikam, Ehamparam, Navaratnam… TNA should give her proper respect. She should maintain unity too.

    Indiscipline will destroy the TNA unless it takes strict action against the political puppy’s. While we respect the martyers we shall also point out the strategical blunders they made. If Tamils were allowed to participate in the 2005 Presidential election image the different political scenario that could have taken place. What is the point of Grumbling after giving the violent weapons to the beast. Who by stupidity created the opportunity for the 40,000 killings. At least now let us joint together with reasonable people and take decisions to strength our supporters to destroy PARAHASURANS. Let us not make the Parakasurans strong and weaken the good forces in action.

    The infighting within the TNA will only benefit the Sri Lankan state who want to minimise the political clout of the TNA. The TNA should maximise their seats in the Parliamentary elections and negotiate with the state from a position of strength. For this to happen, the TNA should be united and with all players being prepared to compromise. The TNA should not weaken an already weakened position of the Tamils.

    ANANTHI and suresh are dancing to the tune of diaspora.diaspora wants this problem to prolong so that they can benefit.for sixty years tamils had confrontational politics.what didd you get?lost the culture,80,000 widows,how many orphans.Tamils are very lucky to have Sampanthan and sumanthiran as leaders.Have you read what Indian leaders and American leaders say about them?one of the Singapore leaders said that you cannot move forward by looking back.now there is a new govt.and give them a chance to perform.They immediately changed the governor which is a good sign.minister Karu said that there will be equal allocation for all the provincial govt.you have to work thro.consensual politics after miserably failed with confrontational politics.the big poses are not coming to your rescue as they have a lot of problems on their own to resolve.TNA you made the right decision and go ahead and sack them if they don’t toe the line.Tamils deserve a change.there is no other way other than work with Sinhalese on a consensual politics and this is the best tine.

    Sorry I couldn’t not appreciate the consensual views of the readers. Plato sounds sensible and many others as well except the one or two who always enjoy their sadist pleasure. Why on earth the enterprising and civilized group of people not allowed to determine their democratic rights from their own home land. Ok diaspora is sympathetic to the tamil course. But should understand the ground realities. While people like Vasu, Tissa and few others are also still going behind the anti democratic and petty narrow ethnic nationalism what is the point of the Tamils who claim to have better IQ also behave like irrational blood thirst, greed, low grade, extremists while the cultured societies appreciate secular and democratic life. Tamils should show the world if they are of a civilized group that they will not be prepared to bite the animal as the animal did. South African, Gandian, and Luther King are still worth of betting. Nelson Mandella model is not out of fear or cowardice strategy. A safest way to protest and to live as humans.

    There are undemocratic individuals in the TNA, who have their past in their respective armed rebel groups. They must go back and look at the repercussions of their undemocratic actions such as boycotting elections in 1994 and 2005.

    In 1994 murderous EPDP got 8 MPs – won with three or 4 votes.

    In 2005 genocidal Rajapakse got elected as the president.

    Ananthi, Premachandran and Sivajilingam, to name a few, must come to accept the democratic principles and the benefits. For example, the west will not come to help the persecuted Tamils if we are abhorrent to democracy. The Diaspora shouldn’t either be under the illusion that their actions brought about the resolutions in Geneva, that resulted in international investigations carried out by UN HRC. Thank to Rajapakse brothers especially the youngest who contributed most towards it, during and after the war.

    There is a special reason why Ananthi is angry and hateful towards Singhala governments. Her husband was taken away in front of her eyes and either executed or hidden away. But she, too, must realise acting according to her feelings will result in more misery and we cannot single handedly achieve anything.

    There are many changes that are taking place for the better in Sri Lanka and specially in North-east. The big stumbling blocs to the functioning of NPC and EPC are gone, the ex-military viceroys, chief secretary and control of EPDP.

    Please take some time off and read ‘Long Walk to Freedom’ by Nelson Mandela whose prime life was wasted by his enemy but he won the freedom for himself and his people.

    Now the strong social fabric of Tamil community is openly displayed because there is no VP and his LTTE. Similar incident was seen in Kosgoda when supporters of present UNP lead government jeered UPFA MP Sajin and publicly stated that present opposition leader UPFA MP NS De S is welcome because he is from Balapitiya. It reminds me of a passage from K Jayathilika’s novel “Delowata Nethi aya”. It says when socialist parties split it is not only on ideological differences but also on caste lines.

    having different ideas about thing other than mainstream party people is not punishable like that . what ever say there is much internal politics and individual domination within ITAK BECAUSE IT IS NOT A PARTY but a coalition.at the same time there are some interested parties like selfish indian intelligence agency try to suppress voices like ANANTHY who have a past rebel and tamil diaspora support. but nowadays it’s became apparent that they are trying to establish dummy political party with Mr.Vithiatharan who was a journalist with Tamil psudonational identity to make a break in tamil vote bank .Infact they want to use srilanka tamils . Srilankans be aware of this Jackals .

    Stuff up continues, and it is nothing but a curse for Tamils.

    Ananthy was one of the queens when VP was in control and became a drama queen when VP is no longer with us. Her husband was one of the front line brave leaders who handed the capsule which decorated his neck for a long time. Unfortunately, those children who he conscripted had to swallow it, abiding the rule of LTTE. Ananthy doesn’t seem to have any shadow of sorrow for loosing her husband, seemingly his demise was a blessing in disguise to build a political career for herself. Unlike those who lost their husbands, she has got a vehicle and she uses it to transport effigy of Sumanthiran, thanks for our diaspora Tamils. She thrives on their remittance. Selva, Amir, VP tried, couldn’t, now the fate of Tamils is rest with our Ananthy, VP didn’t survive to see this happening.

    Those fools who burnt effigies of Sumanthiran and Sampanthan are none other than those who made head lines for their effort sending a ship of dry food items at the height of the war, thus helping to take the focus out of the victims but on the ship. When given the marching order by SL Navy upon approaching the SL water, the crew of the ship pleading every port in the vicinity to let them to dock the ship in desperation to respond to the nature call. That was how their forth sight was. Some of the worst stupid lots some how have made it to the UK. I doubt even these guys can touch the shadow of those two true gentlemen, who strive to find a workable solution to those who live here.

    My worries is neither pot Suresh or drama queen can help find a solution at a time when something seems possible, but they can effectively spoil such efforts. Tamils in general should feel proud to be represented by these two in the absence of Tamilselvam. After all when we have people like Wimal Weeraya, Gnanasera, Mervyn and Sanjin on one side there should be a match on the other. She might join hands with Horse Kaje and the other to form an alliance, but people will give a proper send off to her as they did for Kaje duos.

    First of all Sambanthan , Sumanthiran etc. have to stop alienating others at least until all our urgent needs are fulfilled. It is our custom and curse, we always fight among us. If one party or group become famous or powerful, all others have to support or go home. Gajenthirakumar have to join with TNA and TNA have to tolerate them and act together. In the west even if some one is clever, employer only look for people with team building sprite. We 3rd world people do not have team work-we all wanted to be boss. We do not want any other party other than TNA at the moment, if they are wrong, we have to resolve with them. Are these politicians contesting to get our loses or they wanted to make money. Once all reinstate our lost land and employment and our culture, many parties can form and fight to make money, until then we need only one party, that is TNA at the moment. We wanted politicians with good knowledge and diplomacy, not Jaffna Chadian-that you should have showed to Gotha Army not now. We do not want polititians only from Colombo like before, we need a mix and inexperienced uneducated ones should corporate. Ordinary voter’s duty is not to encourage many stupid parties – teach lesson.

    Some commentators have come up with some stupid arguments. It is really frightening that some English educated persons could behave irrationally. . For example one commentator said that Sampanthan and Sumanthiran broke the 72 years old convention when they attended the Independence Day. So what? The 1976 Vaddukkoddai resolution was also dumped following the 6the amendment enacted in 1983. We should look for paniyaram and not silusiluppai. Ananthi has squandered all the sympathy shown to her as a war victim by her excentric and boorish behaviour. Some mistakenly think she was an ex-LTTE cadre. Nothing of that sort. She was a government employee till she won PC elections in 2013. Ironically it was Sumanthiran who helped her with her retirement. Ananthi is not the only woman who lost her husband. There are hundreds of others, who lost their husbands not in battle but after surrendering to the army at Vadduvaakal on 18th May, 2009. They were taken in army vehicles by the army who told their spouses/relatives that they are taking them for inquiry and they will be released soon. . Since then nothing has been heard about their fate. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says there are no secret army camps. If this is a fact, then the surrendees have been summarily executed by the army. It is the army not anyone else who killed the senior LTTE cadres. Ananthi is exploiting her husband’s name to climb the political and social ladder. She would have been nobody if she was denied nomination. It is the Diaspora that is behind this woman and cheering all the way. Suresh ‘Premachchandran’, Gajendrakumar are exploiting Ananthi’s weakness for fame and publicity. These are the same elements that opposed US resolution moved in the UNHRC in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Gajendrakumar and the BTF burned the draft resolution which made US to wonder why the Thamils and the Sri Lankan government are both opposing it. The presidential elections proved that Gajendrakumar, Ananthi, Suresh Premachandran and BTF/TGTE have no influence with Thamil voters. The world has moved since May 18, 2009. The LTTE lost the war because they did not listen to the international community, notably US. After 9/11 all countries the rule changed who is a terrorist and who is not. After 9/11 all are terrorists. There are no good and bad terrorists like during the cold war. The last election has changed the political landscape. The demonstrations and rallies in the North are symptoms of that change. People are enjoying relative political freedom. The people are able to breath freely without the army and police looking over their shoulders. Reconciliation is not a one way journey; it is a two way journey. Let us strengthen the hands of president Sirisena, Ranil Wickremesinghe and other progressive forces among the Sinhalese. If the Thamils make a mistake, one cannot rule out Rajapaksa staging a come back. He is a wounded animal who is repeatedly blaming the Thamil vote banks in the North, East and Hill for his defeat at the polls. Yet he says he want accept the defeat because he won majority vote of Sinhalese. The government must move quickly otherwise the hardliners and rabble rousers will take over the leadership of the Thamil people. If Sarath Fonseka could be reinstated in his office, given all the medals back, pay his arrears of pension and restore his civil rights with lightening speed why not the same speed is not applied to Thamil IDPs who lost their lands to the army, the political prisoners languishing in jails for years and years and rehabilitation of war widows? These are legitimate concerns which the government must redress without further delay. The government should not take the support of the Thamil people for granted. Over to President Maithripala Sirisena!
