In a country like Sri Lanka these “Parades” are essential. The reason been, those in “Authority” and those who lost “Authority” in equal vigor and comprehension “THINK” that they both have the capacity and the “KNACK” to DECEIVE and make the PEOPLE slaves. A “MESSAGE” of some sort has to be conveyed to them and say, no you are WRONG. All therefore depend on the “Ground Realities”. This assertion, I made when one TV presenter asked the Leader of JVP: “What have you and you party done to wake up the people and why have you gone silent. Even I don’t know what I can get and what you are capable of. Where is your message” Doesn’t that “Question” show the low mentality at “Media” levels and the “Expectations” of the people. Like an “Old” car the Leaders have to “PUSH” and “KICK” start the vehicles; if not, the vehicle (People) remain “Dormant” to be “DRAG” by the “Power Hungry”. That is what has happened for decades. These “Parades” are in the “GENES” of the political out fits, because the PEOPLE do not know their “POWER” and do not know to make INTELLIGENT decisions.

There is meaning of talking about media simply for two reasons: 1. They are doing what is good for themselves; and 2. there is a market for their crap. Therefore, there is nothing much can be done against media unless there is a plan to change either of the above. As for the JVP, if this behavior is described as “Cold” borne out of “Fire”, may be they should be given “Panadol” in order prevent from catching flu! Vijeweera called this kind of political activities including labor strikes “Kenda koppa satan”. May be JVP is now trying to prove how wrong his founder was by insisting on armed revolution right off the bat. Perhaps the current JVP is the civilized version of 71 & 88. However, they are not saying whether the Marxism is still their guiding principle. I think that this is an important question to ask b’cos their new slogans don’t sound to have Marxist flavor. For example, slogans such as “stop selling national properties to foreigners” sound more like nationalism than Marxism which stood for rights of workers of the whole world. May be they are stuck in between Wimal Weerawansa’s racism & the FSP’s pure Marxism.
In any case, considering the amount of time, labor & money – not to mention the several thousand deaths of unsuspecting followers – they have wasted since the inception of the JVP, I can’t help but ask whether it would have been much more productive to the nation if they spend their labor to clear paddy fields & tea states from weeds. That would, at least, help to resolve the thorny issue of Glyphosate use & its possible impact on KDu!
