Nomination of Kamala Harris, whether viewed as the first Black woman or the first Asian woman for the presidency in the United States, represents a historic moment in American politics. After Obama, her nomination marks one of the most consequential events in the nation’s political landscape. If she is elected, it will be a monumental step forward in the ongoing and often arduous journey toward a more perfect union. This moment invites the world to admire America for her growing inclusiveness, while America herself may look inward, reflecting on how far she has come and how unimaginable this journey once seemed.
Is this the same country that Alexis de Tocqueville once condemned as morally depraved after witnessing the sale of Black children by the very slave masters who had fathered them? One might wonder. During his tour of America, Charles Dickens found little to admire, documenting a nation steeped in social injustice and hypocrisy. While Dickens was more ambivalent about slavery than Tocqueville, both men foresaw that such a practice would inevitably lead to civil war.
After the civil war, Abraham Lincoln, despite signing the Emancipation Proclamation, remained unconvinced of the intellectual equality of Black people, even with Frederick Douglass—a formerly enslaved man who had taught himself to read and become a brilliant orator—present in his midst. Many white Northerners believed that after the abolition of slavery, Black people should be expatriated, with Liberia chosen as the destination to enforce this principle.
To challenge white America’s assumptions, the Reconstruction era witnessed a remarkable rise in Black intelligence and self-determination. However, this progress was tragically short-lived, crushed by the imposition of Jim Crow laws and the betrayal of Reconstruction’s promises. It took the Civil Rights Movement to reclaim the rights of Black Americans, a pivotal moment that also coincided with a significant influx of Indian immigrants.
Until 1965, immigration from India was severely restricted, but when the doors finally opened, professionals and those with means flocked to the United States. These immigrants, often from India’s so-called upper classes, arrived with a condescending attitude towards Black Americans, frequently boasting, “I came to this country with a mere hundred dollars in my pocket, and if I can make it, why can’t others?” This sentiment, however, overlooked the harsh realities faced by inner-city Black families, who were burdened by systemic discrimination and fractured social structures.
What these Indian immigrants often failed to recognize was that they did not represent the struggling rickshaw drivers or laborers in India—figures whose hardships were romanticized in Bollywood films but seldom uplifted in any meaningful way. Instead, they hailed from affluent families with sought-after degrees, making them well-equipped to succeed in American universities, hospitals, and the hospitality industry. Kamala Harris is the product of this intellectual immigration from both African Caribbean and South Indian communities, a possibility made real by the hard-fought liberties won by African Americans.
Now, using an old trick, some critics question Kamala Harris’s intelligence, arguing that she came through the back door because she was not originally elected as the presidential nominee. However, she didn’t just appear on the political scene without credentials, as some would have you believe. She served as the Attorney General of California, the most populous state in the U.S., before being elected as a senator and eventually becoming the vice president.
Speaking of intelligence, throughout history, the narrative around intelligence and capability has often been skewed by racial biases. There was a time when white-dominated sports were considered out of reach for people of African descent. However, when these barriers were finally breached, athletes of African descent not only proved themselves but also elevated their sports to unprecedented levels. Icons like Sir Garfield Sobers in cricket, Jackie Robinson in baseball, the Williams sisters in tennis, and Tiger Woods in golf were once seen as exceptions. Yet, they went on to redefine their sports, setting new standards of excellence.
In 1950, the NBA broke racial barriers by allowing its first Black basketball player to take the court. Fast forward to the 2024 Olympics, where an all-Black basketball team claimed the gold medal, demonstrating how far the sport has evolved. This transformative impact extends beyond sports. In the music industry, Black artists have not just participated but have been the architects of entirely new genres that have spread across the globe like wildfire, influencing culture and mannerisms worldwide. The difference between simply imitating what exists and creating something revolutionary highlights the profound intelligence and creativity.
Today, America’s universities have become crucibles of diversity, where mixed-race populations are among the fastest-growing demographics. For the current generation, the racial politics that once dominated are increasingly seen as relics of the past. In this evolving landscape, no single race holds a permanent claim to dominance in any field. Instead, it is the opportunities, exposure, and life circumstances that drive individuals to work hard and achieve excellence.
Sadly, not everything in America is moving toward the ideal. The nation’s involvement in foreign affairs, particularly its wars and alliances, often reveals troubling contradictions. On one hand, the U.S. stands firmly against the despotism of Russia, positioning itself as a defender of democracy and human rights. Yet, on the other hand, it turns a blind eye to the policies of Israel’s leadership, whose actions have devastating consequences for the children of Gaza. This inconsistency is not just hypocritical—it’s morally indefensible.
Supporting one cause while ignoring the suffering in another region exposes a deep flaw in American foreign policy. The ongoing carnage in Gaza, exacerbated by misguided leadership on all sides, demands more than passive acknowledgment; it calls for a ceasefire and meaningful negotiations to secure the release of hostages and bring peace to a region in desperate need of it.
I’m not here to defend or criticize Kamala Harris’s policies or politics; I’m simply an admirer of the possibility of electing the first woman president in the United States. As a South Asian, and as someone deeply familiar with the name Kamala—so common among my friends and family in Sri Lanka—I can’t help but reflect on the significance of this name. In Sri Lanka, being part of a minority community that has existed for many millennia, this name comes with its challenges. Yet, it’s awe-inspiring to see that, within just one generation, someone with this very name is on the brink of holding the most powerful position in the world.

Ariaratnam Gobikrishna MD,……You write so well and to the point on these current issues. I especially like your comparison between Ukraine and Gaza and the US hypocrisy on the matter.

Yes, the Indians who came/come to this country came/come with more than $100. Someone has to sponsor their education and livelihoods over here. Initial startups come from the common low-caste worker money. Kamala Harris probably had a large monetary support from her Tamil Nadu political relatives to supply her divorced mother and their educational pursuits. Also, Indians are also another kind of black or colored race.
–
Yet, there is some pride that a half Tamil lady is running for the most powerful presidency in the world (nice to think that I might be related to her). Her liberal policies are a bit off-putting (people can’t be forced to accept policies that are too liberal). I might support Trump in this case. I like her going after the “price gougers” (another term for going after the amassing billionaires). So many factors to consider till November.

Dear LS and other rational thinkers,
.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris, also known as the current Democratic POTUS candidate, is now supported by many in the swing states of the USA.This is a greater achievement.
–
Race clearly favors Kamala over the clown Trump. I work with various Europeans (20 or more European colleagues for my current job), I know what they feel about Trump. All or any European is against Trump.
–
Transatlantic relations turned out to be no longer the same under the Trump administration.
–
My American colleagues (whites), stay away and don’t talk about anti-Trump rhetoric. If I can read their minds, they are still anti-Trump.
–
Most of them in the pharmaceutical industry are against Trump, considering how Trump’s policies worsened the health care status during the COVID crisis (Deaths:
1,219,487). Without Biden, the number of COVID deaths in the USA would have doubled. Some have told me about remote hospitals in the USA when the hospitals did not have basic care at the time the crisis broke out. Ventilators were donated to them by Germans and other Europeans.

About meat eating in developed world@
Meat eaters consume more protein than vegetarians. There are good athletes in both categories. India and Africa, which do not eat meat like some western countries, are also good/leading at some sports.
What is important is the density of sports people. All Eastern European countries had a good way of promoting their sport. I am in contact with some Eastern Europeans who are champions of athletics (Georgia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovak, Azerbaijani, Romanian, Lithuanian, Serbian, Croatian, etc.).
Genes make everyone do something. Black and white still dominates the world today in high-performance sports. In Germany, every local football club has at least 2-3 black Africans as team members imported from black Africa. Some speak only English. It is about winning their league when playing football within the country and Europe.

Can you explain why you would support a Misogynistic, Fraudulent, Racist, convicted Felon and Instigator of an Attempt to subvert a Democratic Election? He is also, like Joe Biden, on the edge of Neurological Degeneration and tells lies every time he opens his mouth.
I don’t like Kamala Harris’ silence on the Israeli Genocide. She may be biding her time (as some people think) to do something constructive after Biden is out of the way. Unless something goes drastically wrong, she will be elected as the next President. There are forces inside the USA that do not want this to happen.

Hello Leelagemalli,
I read Robert Knox’s book about 10 years ago. I just read it again a few days ago. Sri Lanka hasn’t changed that much. He built a house in Eladetta about 5 or 6 Kilometres from our house here. Some of his Captive crew-mates married local girls and had children. There is a small Hotel where his house stood and the Paddy fields are still there. Economically it is not much different, we occasionally cook with the same Traditional clay wood stoves and eat Rice and Vegetable Curries most days. Chicken and Fish (except Dried Fish) are pretty much Luxuries round here.
Apart from the inevitable Funeral Celebrations, Buddhism doesn’t intrude much into Village Life. The people here still hold the same beliefs that they did in Robert Knox’s days. They still pay the same taxes to the King (sorry, Government now) and get ripped off by the Middle-men. The Politicians still behave like they are the King’s (President’s) men and here to enforce his Rule. Until Election time and they promise to magically transform Sri Lanka into Singapore.
Best regards

Poverty is acute in those areas. But the politicians buried the facts on the grievances of the helpless. Rajapaksa’s politics did more damage to the nation. They boasted of having done a lot, but there are enough 30% or more in srilanka that live under poverty levels. Media worked for the political goons, not revealing the truths about the people’s truths.
–
There are many untold stories about the poverty levels of people in UVA and some other remote areas. People are also born lazy and they wait for all the subsidies to be given to them. I have a feeling Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, people work harder than Sri Lanka.

Hello SJ,
Yes Netanyahu runs the Country, however there are many in the US that don’t like this. Many, especially the younger generation, support Palestinian Statehood and believe Israel is committing Genocide, But they are not the Generation that runs the Government or the Military.
One of my friends in Qatar (A French Military Trainer) who was awarded the Légion d’Honneur (Legion of Honour Medal) told me about his times fighting alongside American Troops. He reckoned that they were extremely “gung ho” and never considered the consequences for Civilians. He also thought it went from top to bottom. They, like the Israelis thought that they had Impunity, no matter what they did, by virtue of their Military strength. But if the youth of America stopped the Vietnam War maybe there is light on the Horizon.

RTF has always been a stupid Trump supporter, starting back in 2016. I don’t engage Trump supporters because their arguments are utterly irrational.
As for KH’s silence on the genocide of Palestinians, the D’s are as beholden to the pro-Israel lobbies as the R’s. Winning a Presidential election in the U.S. requires fundraising of at least a billion dollars. Maybe half of that can come from small donations from the grassroots, but the other half has to come from wealthy donors.
But that is just one of several reasons why a majority of American society remains unsympathetic to Palestinian suffering.

Sports: It’s all genetics. White people, Africans, Chinese have all eaten meat for thousands of years…..from raw beef to elephants to reptiles to amphibians. Our South Asians in the other hand have been vegetarians for thousands of years.

So, need we spend the money of our suffering people on all these stadiums and sports, and then scold and push them to be like these meat eating races that got their muscular-skeletal bodies from the eating of animals? We are going in the wrong direction and suffering and shaming ourselves too much. Of course sports is important, but we should go only regionally and not attempt to compete globally.

We have brains, and that’s what we have to spend our money on….but that too should be brains unique to our environment and genetics. And ours is quite profound according to our Buddhist-Hindu philosophies, psychologies, sciences, mathematics, and religions.

Anyway, your link is Reddit…..so we can’t take that as being a comprehensive analysis.

Hello Ramona,
The relationship between Meat eating and Children’s Growth is not so straightforward. It depends on how they obtain their nutritional supply of Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorous (P). This is a Paper from Nature (not Reddit) https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-17880-3
“Averaged over entire populations, men born in richer, higher-income countries had higher intake of animal than of vegetal products, had higher N, P and N:P intake, and were taller than men born in poorer countries”.
Also in Nature is a study of Hindu and Muslim Men https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-54637-1?fromPaywallRec=false
“Muslim men in the present study were, on average, taller and heavier than Hindu men”
“Child and adult mortality was also significantly lower in Muslim than Hindu communities”.
This difference is not due to economic issues as the Report says “In contrast and perhaps somewhat unexpectedly, economic indicators in India have favored Hindus”.
Being brought up in a Fishing Port we had good access to Fish in our Diet. We also ate Chicken, Rabbit, Hare, Duck and plenty of Vegetable Soups and Potatoes. Our consumption of Red Meats was rare (NOT Rare Beef Steaks), apart from Minced Beef (cheaper), we were Working Class on limited income.
Best regards

LS…….I rest my case. those who have been eating meat for 1,000’s of years are more athletic and also more dexterous. OC, please take note.

LankaScot / August 26, 2024
Hello Ramona,
Did you read the Report on the Role of Nitrogen and Phosphorous? ATP (Adenosine Tri Phosphate) is a molecule used by Mitochondria to power the cell’s biochemical reactions. Meat may contain a bit more but it is also available from a Vegetarian Diet. The Feudal System lasted for a long time and the vast majority of people were Peasants. In Medieval Times “The poor were semi-vegetarians who simply could not afford meat and social status. Wealth is very much associated with diet.”
Meat eating was pretty much the preserve of the Rich so where were these Countries where the bulk of the population had been eating meat for 1000’s of years? Even in India there were Hunter Gatherers for Thousands of years before the introduction of Agriculture. The SAN peoples are an ancient people with a history that goes back more than 40,000 years. They are Hunter Gatherers that have a rich meat diet and average height for men is about 5 feet. By your reckoning they should be the Tallest people on Earth. Life is never simple.

Hello LS,
I totally agree with you. Thanks for adding it here.

Going back to human evolution (not human evolution in Sri Lanka that we are far behind) man ate meat from the beginning. Ramona and Sinnhala_Man may have her /his own interesting stories, but the facts must be respected.

Today, when it comes to cancer, it is more closely related to meat consumption (among several other factors, of course) than to fish and vegetarian diets. Again, cancer types vary from geographic location to location.
–
Carnivore champions are found in North Americans and other wealthy countries. I know Germans (older Germans from the boomer generation) cant live their meals without their steak (imported from Argentina). My good bike buddy who is 15 years older than me loves to eat meat around the clock. Even if he hears facts from me, he is addicted to it. Unfortunately, he is also diagnosed with a cancer lately. ..

Most of meat eaters eat less vegetables, but their medical history confirms that they are at higher risk of heart, intestinal and vascular diseases.
Most hit Diseases of the German nation are stomach cancer.
That’s why anyone over the age of 50 is closely advised to get prescreened by their internists.
Previously, people thought that Greenland’s Enuits had the least heart disease. Now it has been found in Japan, South Korea and France.
It is believed that the main reason behind the healthy state of life is based on consumption of fish in their eating culture.
The French and their drinking culture based on red wine is the other factor.
It is clear that eating too much meat is associated with cancer in the human body.

In Germany, North Germans are said to be happier than the rest of the country. Every time, when I go to Kiel in Hamburg, I see that people in Bavaria and similar areas are far from happy. Now one might ask the question, why then Octoberfest and similar national festivals come from Bavaria?

You should read some Archaeological Reports about Medieval Diets. I lived not far from the Roman City of Wroxeter and used to visit quite regularly. They had Under-Floor Heating a huge Basilica and Baths Complex. People were not savages 2000 years ago https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/wroxeter-roman-city/history/
The Romans also had huge Granaries like these in Usk https://museum.wales/articles/1319/Roman-fortress-discovered-underneath-town-centre/
My Gt Grandfather used to store many Vegetables (Potatoes, Turnips, Carrots etc.) in an Outhouse for use in the Winter Time. There were also many Winter Crops https://www.fwi.co.uk/arable/year-round-vegetables-scotland
The Cows were kept for Milk and their Winter Fodder was also stored.

I taught a few of my Indian friends and one Sri Lankan in Doha how to swim (not easy). They all had the same problem – their legs would sink. If I lie on my back in the Pool my whole body floats horizontally, including my legs. South Asians have great difficulty with this.

Swimming as a sport was weak if not absent even in some leading schools of Colombo.
As late as the 1970s Royal College did not have a swimming pool. Swimmers had to go to the St Joseph’s pool by prior arrangement.
Forget about the provinces.
Sea swimming was popular along the coast, but that is a different game.

“When did it begin to shine?”
From 1815, when Sinhala Buddhist Modayas voluntarily signed the Kandyan accord, they gracefully took the land and showed Magnanimous mercy (it is mentioned in the accord ‘for your land we show grace for you”) for Modaya instead of carrying out a 2009, Like Modayas did to the Tamils in their Tamil land.

That is telling a message for the rogues who go to the UK to study Mechanics and study Marxism & communism and hang around there and sow revolution and murders. That is why some smarties ran away in time, to be adopted by Siri Ma O and blamed the refugees who could not come back, but stuck and facing the riots there, as ”Diasporic Recasts.” How is that you can see only UK riots, while the Deva Paramilitaries submitted their body and souls in exchange for wealth and power, to the Sinhala Buddhist Appe Aanduwas and manned the civil war.
Why worry about the riots in the UK while the Sinhala Buddhist Rapist Army manning the North by 2:1 and protecting its planted elements without even a hair fall from the acolytes bodies?

When a cross-community child is born, parents do not care that its name should bear both communities’ identity. So, in VP Kamala’s first name, the Jamaican part is dormant. This gave a chance to a few Republicans to attempt to separate her from the rest of the blacks. The short-sighted issue creators fail to recognize that she is a proud American, same like them. While she lived under the influence of the closeness of her Tamil mother, she acquainted herself with the other side, the black community, very thoroughly. Practically, she is more of a Black American, than a Tamil. In fact, her Tamils’ vocabulary was reported by the media as limited to a handful of few words. Tamil is the oldest spoken language. Tamil is the oldest living language. Tamil is the oldest classical language. This makes Tamil to excel any other living languages in its antiquity, while standing equal to all other modern Languages in law, science and commerce. I doubt if this august position of Tamil would invoke any relevance to VP Kamala. Though she claimed her compassionate relationship with her Chithies, she was never known to have claimed that she is a proud member of a community that speaks the glorious language, Tamil.

Hello Mallaiyuran,
Greek is older. The first Greek writing in Linear B is from 1450 BCE in Knossos, Crete. Linear B was deciphered by Michael Ventris and John Chadwick in 1952. Please show me any Manuscript from this period written in Tamil. There are even Latin Documents from the 7th Century BCE. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_first_written_account
Apart from all that being the first is not very important. Most Linguists are interested in the Development, Structure and Cladistics of Languages. There are no extant examples of PIE (Proto Indo European) and I haven’t seen any examples of Proto Tamil. Modern Humans evolved in Africa and had common Ancestors with Chimpanzees, Gorillas and other Apes. It is not a Linear process, there has been interbreeding with other Hominids and extinctions of Species that have given us some DNA (e.g. Neanderthals). Languages do not arise spontaneously fully formed, they all have a historical development.

LankaScot,
You seem to believe that a language came into existence when it had a writing form. Then the conclusion would be that Sanskrit never existed, because they resisted writing, because they considered it as a holy language, letting it on earthly materials would degrade its purity. To put forward the fourth claim of Tamil being the oldest written language, the Harappan Language has to be deciphered.
Wikipedia:
One hypothesis places it within or near the Dravidian languages, perhaps identical with Proto-Dravidian itself. Proposed by Henry Heras in the 1950s,[5] the hypothesis has gained some plausibility and is endorsed by Kamil Zvelebil, Asko Parpola and Iravatham Mahadevan.[6][7] A 2021 research paper published in Nature argues that Proto-Dravidian was spoken in Indus Valley based on the ultraconserved Dravidian tooth-word and genetics.[8]
Other than that, there is evidence that 2500–3000 years ago Tamils and Greeks were trading and both Languages picked up loan words from each other. Whatever the case may be, Tamil is still living, and the Old Greek ceased. You bring anything that was written in Tamil at any time in history, any Tamil can understand and tell the meaning.
/
LankaScot / August 25, 2024
Hello Mallaiyuran,
“Proto-Dravidian was spoken in Indus Valley based on the ultraconserved Dravidian tooth-word and genetics”.
The Indus Valley Script has NOT been deciphered. Genetics cannot prove what language a person spoke. Writing is concrete evidence of the presence of a Language in a particular context at a particular time. I have Pictish, Breton French, Norwegian Viking and R1b-M269 Bell Beaker DNA (from the Steppe Yamnaya) so what language should I speak from my DNA. There is a Bell Beaker Settlement about 200m from one of my Gt Grandfathers’ House near Loch Kinord in Aberdeenshire. Here is an example (Bell Beaker) of the type of report that you should be doing for Tamil DNA History https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5973796/
Old Greek did not cease it developed into Modern Greek just like Old Tamil developed into Modern Tamil “Old Tamil (300 BC – AD 700), Middle Tamil (700–1600) and Modern Tamil (1600–present)”. When you say “You bring anything that was written in Tamil at any time in history, any Tamil can understand and tell the meaning” you have no evidence (nitpicking I know but, who can read Brahmi Script?). Even Scots from other areas cannot understand my Doric Dialect.

It is so imbecilic that you are not a linguist but trying to teach, like world’s dominant Madhavan, how to write the heading for his essay. Please, he knows that he was referring only to Language genetics. (Greek was not the oldest, Tamil is the oldest. It is the Harappan language. Sorry, I can only go with a dictionary meaning for my English writing. I never thought there is a way to interpret when I quote the reading of “Tamil writing” you are allowed to interpret it as deciphering Brahmi. That is nothing but a lousy job. Your interpretation of English here are many times extremely biased rather than narrow nit picking. There are mainly two ways languages are born. One group started their own language from an early start. Another Language gets corrupted by external influences and accepts a new ID. Read extensively about Dravidian Language, (as per Madhavan Robert Caldwell the Tamil,). Then you will find out that it or its mother language is the mother language of all Asian-European languages. That is how Telegu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Sinhala were born from Tamil. You can do any somersault, it will not change, Tamil will prove its earth is round globe, not the European’s medieval people wanted. The uncorrupted original form is still developing in India as Tamil from the time it landed in India. Internal growth never can be categorized as the birth of a new Language, without establishing fundamental change. That is why Tamil grammar has explicitly excluded any foreign word interposed or injected into it as “Thisai Sol”. That is the definition Tholhapiyar wrote 2100 years ago, in the first Tamil grammar book. So, any word borrowed from Geek is “Thisai Sol” allowed to be used in Tamil, but even after two millennia they remain are only Thisai Sol not Tamil Sol. I did not hear another language that keeps its borrowed words as outcasts. (Greek was not the oldest, Tamil is the oldest. It is the Harappan language)

Telugu and Kannada have retained words that Tamil had abandoned long ago. Kannada is closer to Tamil than Telugu I think.
Sanskritization of the vocabulary under Hindu influence was a source of confusion of the origins of these languages.
Caldwell was, however, right to assert that Tamil was not an offshoot of Sanskrit.
BTW
Is R.N. Ravi a linguist of any repute? I have serious doubt. He has strong BJP leanings I suspect.
/
Mallaiyuran / August 27, 2024
” Why are you quoting from a 19th Century fake linguist “
Because I know you will bring from Wikipedia without understanding the topic; you will quote from Anti-Tamil Brahminical Ram’s Hindu.. The Old Rowdy King crowned Ram as Lanka Ratna for helping him from TN to carry out the anti-Tamil Propaganda. Same caselike Subramanian Swamy. I know also, you have no idea who this Ravi is and will bring his preach here.
I did not come to know of the occasion of Caldwell saying Tamil is much younger than Telugu. But a linguist dating Tamil Telugu and Kannada as same time languages is no offense. Telugu & Kannada are nothing but Tamil, corrupted by Sanskrit and have taken different IDs. The Speakers of those languages don’t like to be called Tamil, so they want to be called by different names. Ravi in Tamil Nadu, because BJP wants him to control TN. PMS Charles, Karuna’s party secretary, the current UNP-SLFP Northern governor, much more tolerant of Tamil than of Telugu Ravi’ or Sadampi or Sinhala Buddhists. Sad part is, you do not understand what you read. Sorry about that..

I don’t accept your Old Tamil- New Tamil definition that you copied from Wiki, without any clue of it.. Extensive Tamil Brahmi writing of 3 CE was found in Ceylon. Some are even from Tissamaharama. There many found Kilinochi and other areas too. Now, do you get what your Old Tamil is? It was simply the extensive use of Brahmi. Language is not an alphabet. In Australia, Canada, and the US there are many languages recognized as aboriginal’s languages, but none of them had written format until Spanish and English came. There is somebody feeding you to stand-off against Tamil that the Tamil never existed until you copied from Wikipedia and posted in CT. But unfortunately for you, the Florida Lab which brought Portuguese 600 years ago to Langkang for the need of Yahapalanaya government, by dating Mannar Mass burial, It dated (within a month) for TN Government the Keeladi (Tamil Nadu) artifacts were showing that Tamil Brahmi was in use at that site from 7th CE until 3rd CE. When Kanada, Telugu were separated from Tamil by the high corruption of Sanskrit, the remaining country was recognized as Tamil Land with three divisions, Chera, Chola & Pandya.
There was no factor present in India for the original Dravidian dialect to fundamentally change and to become many different languages until the Aryan invasion occurred.
/
LankaScot / August 27, 2024
Hello Mallaiyuran,
In all the above you have not provided a single Reference.. As I explained before there were no Professional Archaeologists involved in the Mannar Mass Grave excavations. It is quite possible that the Mass Grave of Civil War Age was on the site of a 500 year old burial. However what is more likely is that the samples sent were known Human Remains of that age previously excavated by the Sri Lankan Archaeological Departments. There was no Stratigraphic Analysis whatsoever with the Report. “The JMO took the six samples from a cross section of the mass grave in the presence of Mannar Magistrate T Saravanarajah”. How the samples were transported, and what precautions taken to prevent tampering, is not reported. This was the result “the remains belong to between 1499 and 1719 AD”.
I downloaded the Report and there is a huge discrepancy in Dates of the Samples. Some are 1404 AD to 1450 AD with 95% Certainty. Others are in the Upper Range 1477 AD to 1642 AD with 95% Certainty.
The well-known massacre of around 600 Tamil Catholics in Mannar in 1544 AD does not fit the early dates.
I found this recently https://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=79&artid=39379

Later, It shrank as Chola and Pandya when Cheram was split from the classical Tamil Land.
Based on Malayalam separation, nobody can argue that it was only 200 years ago the southern land separated into two languages,, i.e. the East Was Tamil and We was Malayalam. Malayalam separation did not fundamentally change Tamil. It was in intact structure for an unknown time period.
This is a quote from Tara Pushvani, a linguist:
“ A friend asked me what’s so special about Basque, and here is what I said:
Basque happens to be the #1 most interesting language to linguists because it’s a “language isolate,” meaning that it is related to no other language, now or ever. They call this a genetic relationship within language families, just like we refer to humans in families.

What is special for you and me about Basque (Spain) is that some people believe that when Original Dravidian Languages’ genetics were recognized, some thought it was something descended or genetically related to Basque (I do not support that). But Robert Caldwell used the “Dravidian” as the name of the language he observed existing only in India, but a flourishing one. He picked the Dravidian from Sanskrit; he did know Sanskrit meant Tamil by it. Eventually other major three languages wanted their own identity, not Tamils identity, so the Dravidian Language took a different meaning, not under the Tamil umbrella. But whatever it is, that was Caldwell’s observation, and he named it so. That is what happened when Tamil was classified as a classical Language, they too wanted it. Sanskrit calls Tamil as the Dravidian Nisha Pasha. When Sanskrit started to descend it did not recognize the Telugu, Kanada like languages as independent of Tamil. The point is Sanskrit was needed to create them from Tamil! Alas! Of course, Sanskrit did not go to list Brahui (Iran) or Malto (Bangladesh) which are far West and far East as Nisha Pasha.
/
Mallaiyuran / August 27, 2024
Old Greek and modern Greek’s differences is many times higher than the difference with in the southern Dravidian Languages. In Greece, to minimize this trouble, Old Greek is taught in high school. There was a style of writing popular in Tamil called Manipravalam”. If the work is done in that style, Malayalam, Telugus, Sanskrit readers can understand that though these languages went apart many centuries ago. That is the nature of the Dravidian Languages. Other specialty in Tamils is the Centamil. This feature throughout the history reaming same. Wikipedia Pundits have no clue that Centamil is not changing. In contrary, Kudumtamil will be changing even village to village and century to century. But writing is done only in Centamil. So, the works period is irrelevant. Wikipedia Pundits have no knowledge of this little public secret in Tamils. Thirukural is a book that has no matching for its standard in any other languages. 100% pure philosophy, written in three parts. All poets and writers show their punditry and language proficiency on the staring chapter, pages and the passages. So, you expect the composer of Thirukural also do similar to this. Here is the First couplet:
“அகர முதல எழுத்தெல்லாம் ஆதி பகவன் முதற்றே உலகு “ Lets parse this, 2100 years old two lines.
1.) எழுத்தெல்லாம் : All Letters
2.) அகர முதல : “A” (amber sound) the start
3.) உலகு : The world.
4.) முதற்றே :having in front
5.) ஆதி பகவன் :The ancient Lord
/
Mallaiyuran / August 27, 2024
“All the letters take A (amber) as the first; (the same way it is understood) The world having front the Lord.” Ask any Tamil commentator what part of this poetic grammar or words they feel outdated and inconsistent. Remember, If anyone has started the letter A (amber) that means he/she had some knowledge of Centamil. So, you can ask any Tamil commentator who accepts that he has learned to read and write Tamil, if he has a problem with this couplet and then what it was. Leave the Sadampi (the loony who writes his name as Savam) alone, because he did not study Tamils, so he is good only to hide under your Munthanai.
First, you need to understand what is meant by “Language”. Is that words’ sound? Are those words’ letters? Is that the meaning of words? Is that the grammar? Is that the spoken language? Is that the written Centamil? Without understanding those issues, If you just do wholesale of Wikipedia, you are making fun of yourself. You need to clearly define why Tamils have to be classified as Old Tamil, Middle Tamil and Modern Tamil? What is the scale you used? Further, you need to tell if you are applying those classifications to Centamil or Kodumtamil or independently for both. Spoken Jaffna Tamil is said to be the oldest Kodumtamil because it closely resembles the Centamil.
/
Mallaiyuran / August 27, 2024
The other feature that resists changes in Tamil is its characteristic called Virginity:” Kanni Tamil”. That means unmolested form, from the time it was composed by the original masters. Pundits are very conscious about this character of Tamil. So, when they need to introduce compulsory changes, they make sure the fundamentals of the languages are not changed. Even with all the protection, there is a form of literature available in Tamil called gobbledegook. That is purposeful composing that resists readers understanding the meaning. Nowadays, it is not much used because the poets do not carry that big vocabulary in Tamil. Now Tamil Nadu pays attention to that language. So, the writer’s vocabulary might increase. But no chance of Gobbledygook coming back. Nowadays, book writing is big business. So, to sell the book, the language should be plain and simple in those books. So, the modern Tamils is lighter, it doesn’t mean it has deviated from any of its characters.
Please don’t tell me that you are the first one to Old, Middle, Modern Tamil on Wikipedia.

Hello Mallaiyuran,
I have never asserted (or wished) that anyone should be banned from Commenting on CT. Nor do I or anyone else have the right to ask for this. It is up to the Admin Team of CT whether a person’s Comments breach their policy.
I can disagree with someone’s point of view and respond to it, but I try not to make ad hominem attacks on them. We are not all angels and sometimes make remarks that we may regret. I have definitely made a few.
I have been criticised for engaging with Lester and DTG even when it is obvious I am “flogging a dead horse”. But I don’t appeal to any “Gods” for help. You might as well ask the Juju men for a Potion to cure Cancer.
You have the same rights as anyone else to carry on a discussion. I am well aware that we think differently. I am fairly new to Sri Lanka and CT so I am still trying to figure out the “lie of the land”. There are posts that you have made that I agree with and probably vice versa.
Carry on writing.
Best regards

Hello OC,
Swamped by unsupported opinion. Not a single Professional Reference in any of his above posts. As I said I am not a Linguist, but I could understand their reasoning. How you can tell if a language has changed in the past without Documents from that period is beyond me. Like I said before if you look at the English of Beowulf to most English speakers it is incomprehensible and that’s from 1000 years ago. Do we have any transliterations (phonetic spellings) of Ancient Tamil into other languages from more than 2000 years ago?
On the question of Balance he knows perfectly well my opinion on the Civil War Crimes carried out by the Sri Lankan Forces. He also knows my opinion on LTTE suicide bombings of Civilians. War Crimes committed by anyone should be investigated and prosecuted.
Best regards

“How you can tell if a language has changed in the past without Documents from that period is beyond me “ Lots of professional reference but what comes out of this is extreme Sinhala Buddhism.
Read the main book mentioned here. “Panniru Thiru Murai” (Twelve Part Holy Hymns) is not one book. But a compendium of four sages’ compositions, developed before 1500 years, (before Mahavamsa) The author is establishing each and every event, place time, people involved, occasions and all detail by relating parallel events they mentioned somewhere else. Extensive reading in all Old Tamil works involved while understanding them clearly is needed. Don’t keep blindly saying they were never written. They have all in Palm leaf books.
Did you read the sample I quoted from Thiruvalluvar? Do you understand the Strict Centamil format structure, which is not available in other languages, which all changes their fundamentals as and when a new word appears? Do you deny you were just adamant of everything you were holding so connects Mathavan’s heading of his as he was talking biology not linguistics? Can you, at this point, write an apology at least for that? All your problem is Mathavan is not Sinhala Buddhist, but a Dasa language speaking Dasu! So, you decided to rebut, irrelevant if you don’t know a word of Tamil. That was the exact reason Clad also named The Dravidian Language, (Dasus’ language).

You cannot dream what all Caldwell understood when he named what he thought a Tamil as “Dravidian” … He meant it is all about the “The Pariahs and their filth.”
If something is beyond you, why are you stuck on that. Doesn’t it openly expose you that you are inclined to establish some mischievous things like the medieval religious authorities or contemporary Langkang Ayatollahs? When you accept that you don’t know that but are still standing off on proving that 100% correct explanations are wrong only because they are not in the books you want to read, how this behavior is different from the elite authorities who brutally suppress the true knowledge. Other day also I tried to make you understand a lot of things, including a point that the main part of a science’s invention is only how much everybody understanding that, not coming out with a laboratory proof, especially in Cosmology, where many European scientists faced death even though they were able to show some mathematical explanation for their talks. But you kept coming out with your nitpicking, twisting, dodging. So, I said to your “Cheers” and quit, so you could be content that you have beaten every truth available. (If you want to know what that is, we can go back there too, but I guarantee that you will grasp nothing out anything)

“I said before if you look at the English of Beowulf to most English speakers it is incomprehensible and that’s from 1000 years ago It is the funniest, jokiest talk ever cracked by any person. That is an extremely inconsistent metaphor when Tamil is concerned. It is like when somebody asks you how an elephant looks, you bring a cat and say, “like this animal it has four less, one tail, one mouth. ……”
English is a powerful modern language, but still, it cannot carry the hair of Tamils in its antiquity. I am not going to answer for the LTTE part because when you are not seeing any new openings to bluff, you are trying to take a leapfrog jump to start new dupes.
I feel sorry for your desperate tricks while repeatedly accepting that you were wrong, or you didn’t know that but keep arguing!

Challenge the jokers who claim a 2500+ years history for Tamil by asking them to paraphrase any Tamil poem older than say 1500 years without assistance.
Tamil had been heavily influenced by northern languages by 600 AD.
*
Now, they do not speak anything that sounds like Tamil in Chennai. At times it is English with a Tamilish accent.

Mallaiyuran / August 28, 2024
Well, is that the language you used to interpret the Rapist Navy regulation? Savam didn’t read what I have written above extensively about Centamil and Kodum Tamil. Not only is there a puny brain in the head which cannot comprehend anything, but blind eyes too! Why a completely blind who cannot read anything getting into this and showing off the colors of a dead corpse, the Savam?

“In Sri Lanka, being part of a minority community that has existed for many millennia, this name comes with its challenges
This is the author’s claim, the Tamils antiquity and its present in Ceylon. The existence of the five Iswarms in Ceylon tells of its connection with the Harappan Pasupathi and their relationship with that language.

You should know when to give up.
Thankfully, the Tamil Lester has not jumped in.

Don’t cry baby. He is not going to stay in this tread too long away from you . Soon will be back with you to hold you the Munthanai.

You mean Tamil Lester. He is missing and so is his little niece.

As for munthanai, how long is it since your better half ditched you?

“how long is it since your better half ditched you”
Well beating LankaScot in coping from Wikipedia, still I answer: Your Munthanai, unlike your short Amude which couldn’t hide your shame, is giving you larger protection, which is longer than you need,

Hello Mallaiyuran
Direct from Iravatham Mahadevan’s Interview
“And to begin at the end, I may say that I realize that I have not deciphered the Indus script and if I may so, it is extremely unlikely that I may do so in the remaining years of my life”.
And again on the Tamil Harappan Theory “This is still a theory. We haven’t had final proof, we haven’t been able to crack the code”
As for Brahmi Script he says “But the idea of the Brahmi script comes from the alphabetic, Semitic script and I believe in Buehler’s theory. For these two reasons I do not agree with the scholars, most of them Indian, who believe that the Brahmi script is a remote descendant of the Indus script”.
He also says that “We do not have the horse in the Indus Civilization. There is no evidence for the wheeled chariot. There is no evidence for the spoked wheels”.
By the way when I was in the Museum of Islamic Arts in Doha I saw depictions of “Unicorns” that looked very like the IVC Unicorns. It turns out they were actually Oryx. I watched herds of Oryx near the Saudi Border. I also saw them very close up on Halul Island. When you see them side on they do look like “Unicorns:.
You should maybe read a bit more of what Iravatham Mahadevan actually writes before you quote him? https://www.harappa.com/content/iravatham-mahadevan-complete-interview

Come on Vapa, at least fall on Deva’s feet and beg him to prescribe better medicine for more intensive hallucination. Now your conditions seems to be worse than a dead Savam!

Mallaiyuran / August 28, 2024
You are a silly sally cuckoo, LankaScot. You asked me why I quoted Caldwell. What I quoted has no relevance to time, because whenever it was, it was Caldwell who created the word Dravidian out of Sanskrit word, “Dasus” the Pariahs.
But without reading what you are bringing very efficiently copycatting Wikipedia. “
“An Interview with Iravatham Mahadevan
A wide-ranging interview with Iravatham Mahadevan [1930-2018] home on January 17, 1998 with Omar Khan.” That is the heading of the interview. Mahadevan died in 2018 and gave an interview to BBC in 2024, revamping his earlier works on deciphering Harappan Language.
Couple of questions:
1). What is the trick behind not bringing the heading of the interview?
2). Did you read the interview?
3) How is this interview establishing to support you that the small cutting I brought from Wikipedia is nothing but fraud? Or is it telling that Mahadevan never said what was on Wikipedia?
4) Could you be here the same way you brought him, the Interview Mahadevan gave to BBC?

It is not Mahadevan, but there is no archaeological evidence that there were horses in India before Aryans’ arrival. But Mahadevan would have been a party to that invention too, but I am unconcerned about that. But I always wrote here in CT that unlike sage Valmigi said Aswametha yagna did not take place in Ramayana, because there were no horses in that time, Ram was a Dravidian, Ceylon Princess Sita died on the way to Ayodhya, so without queen to stimulate the horse, no Ashwametha Yagna took place. You might not have read it, but it is all over everywhere in my CT comments. So, it is your gimmick that without archaeological proof you would not accept anything, but now you are proving even Unicorn lived in India. Come on, man, wake up. This is the difference between a Dravidian and an Aryan. Not much racism in that.

“Indians are increasingly becoming global leaders, as seen with figures like Rishi Sunak in the UK and Kamala Harris in the USA. However, to further this trend, our own leadership at home must embrace new approaches, similar to the NPP’s vision. By fostering fresh leadership and modern governance, we can amplify India’s global influence and ensure that more Sri lankan leaders make their mark on the world stage. New “government that operates differently from traditional approaches.possibly inspired by the National People’s Party (NPP) or a similar concept. “With the NPP’s approach now recognized by India, we have an opportunity to embrace fresh leadership and modern governance with a forward-looking vision. This can pave the way for a future where Indian leaders have a stronger global influence and make a lasting impact on the world stage.”

Yes, her Saree wearing photos appeared in the media, but is she familiar with steaming Idly, the unique Tamils’ food which makes them stand out world over as one community? Yet, on the eve of her nomination to stand for the world’s most civilized-most influential nation’s presidency, her name the “Kamala”, though it is in Ceylon, India, Singapore, Malaysia like countries many different communities adopt it, is giving World Tamils’ an overwhelming excitement.
Kamaraj, Rajaji, Bhaktavatsalam, Chithamparam, Ramanathan, Arunasalam, SJV, Sampanthar like Tamils leaders had stood many levels above the candidates they were competing in their countries. They could not lead their countries only for one reason. Their countries, where the Tamil originated, no longer recognize the Tamils deserve to decorate any such prominent position. But for the last two and half centuries, Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy like leaders have softened and cultivated the conquistador-y minds of the European Colonialists to display indifference to other nationalities to lead them, when the candidates are suitable for the job.

Delusionary DNC Convention
.
1) Delusionary DNC Convention ignoring that Kamala Harris is the VP of the Biden/Harris administration fraudulently attempted to create the narrative that she as President will resolve the very problems created by that administration particularly on the economy and the Southern Border.
.
2) Harris since becoming the Presumptive Presidential Nominee of the Democratic Party almost a month ago has not held even one media interview and the mainstream media is giving her a free pass on everything and never fact-checks her. At the same time they ‘hound’ Donald Trump who is not without fault.
.
3) An article in the Wall Street Journal of 23 August 2024 inter alia states:
.
“The economy has lately been growing about half as fast as when Vice President Kamala Harris took office in January of 2021, while the annual inflation rate is about twice as high. She deserves more than her share of the blame for providing the crucial tie-breaking Senate votes for the spending schemes that fueled inflation and malinvestment. And now she’s promising to impose destructive new tax hikes on our slow-growth economy.”

Undemocratic Democratic Party
.
1) Even a biased person will agree that the acid test to gauge the integrity of an election is a person voting “in person on Election Day”. Facts prove that Trump was the CLEAR WINNER of the 2020 presidential election by this measure.
.
Given below is what the Pew Research Center asserted in this regard:
.
“Trump performed much better among voters who cast their ballots in person on Election Day (65% for Trump vs. 33% for Biden).”
.
https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/06/30/behind-bidens-2020-victory/
.
2) Is not Trump spot-on to reach the conclusion that the 2020 Presidential Election giving victory to the Biden/Harris team is UNLAWFUL/ FLAWED?
.
3) Another CANARD is that Trump instigated his supporters to protest VIOLENTLY on 6 January 2021 against the unlawful/flawed election. His detractors IGNORING his exhortation to protestors to “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard” have mischievously characterized the emotional protest that controversially went wrong as an ‘insurrection’. It is noteworthy that every single investigation eager to ‘nail’ Trump has also glaringly omitted this exhortation.

Undemocratic Democratic Party (continued from above)
.
4) On the weaponization of the US Justice system (DOJ) against Trump by the Biden/Harris White House and he being a “convicted felon”, well known CNN presenter Fareed Zakaria who is not a Trump fan is of the opinion:
.
“I doubt the New York indictment would have been brought against a defendant if his name was not Donald Trump”!!
.
https://youtu.be/ONsSsdDNRxI (3:38 onwards)
.
5) Is not the blatant ‘COVER-UP’ of Biden’s COGNITIVE DECLINE over the years by the mainstream media, Kamala Harris and Democratic Party leaders such as Obama, Clintons, Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and others the most damning ‘BIG LIE’ in present day US politics?
.
6) Under the circumstances, what credibility does the Democratic Party have to even pretend to be the standard bearer of Democracy in the US? Was not even their Primaries to choose a candidate for the presidency UNDEMOCRATIC?
.

Hello Amrit Muttukumaru,
I am not a fan of the American 2 Party System, however a Party has the right to select its Candidates by whatever means it decides. It is the Election that must be done fairly and democratically.
“I doubt the New York indictment would have been brought against a defendant if his name was not Donald Trump”!!
In most European Countries he would be in Jail.
Biden and Trump are both in Cognitive Decline, Biden further along (allegedly); it is difficult to tell if Trump is telling lies or is just deranged.
At the Hearings into Trump’s Behaviour “The committee presented evidence that it said showed Trump’s call for his supporters to march on the Capitol was not spontaneous but had been planned in advance.
The panel showed an unsent Twitter message about the rally, with a stamp showing Trump had seen it: “Please arrive early, massive crowds expected. March to the Capitol after. Stop the Steal!”
Trump knew what was likely to happen given the presence of the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys and the QAnon internet conspiracy movement. Trump said “If you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore”.
Best regards
