Lasantha Wickrematunge Murder Investigation: IGP Awaits Sirisena-Wickremesinghe Approval To Interrogate Gota And Fonseka

Amidst loads of criticism for postponing the Local Government Elections for citing different reasons, the Yahapalanaya government led by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe are both delaying in providing authority to question the former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaka and current Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka over the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge, Colombo Telegraph has learnt.fonseka_mahinda_gotabhaya

According to the sources close to IGP Pujith Jayasunadara, the preliminary investigation into the high profile murder has now been completed and requires questioning the hierarchy of the former Rajapaksa regime that was in power during the death of Wickrematunge.

However the secret unit established in between the decision makers and police preliminary investigators needs to decide if the political authorities requires to proceed and are now waiting for President Sirisena and Premier Wickremesinghe to authorize the questioning of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka prior to questioning Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Political commentators believe that while President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremeinghe are both attempting to take advantage of this situation for the sake of gaining political mileage over each other prior to the Local Government Elections.

Whilst Premier Wickremesinghe hopes that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party could be further destabilized as long as Gotabaya Rajapaksa is kept free, President Sirisena is also playing the political card to safeguard the SLFP by protecting war heroes in order to drum up support from his voter base prior to holding the Local Government Elections.

“A number of other similar high profile cases, also concluded at the preliminary stages are awaiting approval to proceed further” our source said. (Janaka Ranaweera)

Uh oh, Uh oh…..SF to be questioned ? was it not SF that S.Leader attacked 2 weeks before Lasantha was brutally executed by the “squad”? Was it not SF he exposed in his last writings? And also what happened to KN? we all know what SF’s unit did to KN right? GR SF were very tight; SF owed his extension and promotion to GR and they did a great job wiping out the LTTE despite tremendous political pressure. They fell out over ambition and greed. But hmmmmm will they point fingers at each other? How can SF be questioned when he is now a top UNPer having failed to even get 50,000 votes for his party? He is a cabinet minister and Field Marshal now….

SF is now above the law. Otherwise his old men will come after the government.

Time will show it clearly, SF will come out as winner CLEARING ALL THE DOUBTS::: he has no fears that he proved – while Rajapakshe men will go down – THAT IS INEVITABLE.

Sirisena will block the IGP to protect the Rajapaksas!?

“Game of Shape” (cover up) still in play!?

Don’t worry Rajapaksas we will protect you while pretending to come after you!?

“Don’t worry Rajapaksas we will protect you while pretending to come after you!?”

Probably MR is sitting on Sirisena’s files.

If SF had a hand in this grusome murder
he would have been tried and hung in MRs regime.

          0

That would not have happened as Gotabhaya is highly implicated and he had the evidence. SF Couldn’t produce them at the time without incriminating himself. Now that the case has been reopened, SF should become a witness for the prosecution and help convict at least Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

So called War victory from the point of view of Rajapakshes and lanken extremists have become the licence Rajapakshes to enjoy pure impunity. But how long this would stay as it is is the greater question.

And the local media that have long been used to dance to the tunes of Rajaakshes just because of his term put the end ot the relay race of the civil war held for the last 30 years, will have to see things being unbiased, else, lanken majoritiy will definitely stand against Sirasa, Hiru and Derana. The very same folks will never tolerate keeping them away from up ground realities.

Lanken Majority folks are palatable as no other folks. The reason have been a larger majority over 60% donot even earn 2 dollars a day. So, they are the easy targets of greedy politicians such as Rajpakshes.

        Yes, inthe post war scenario

        1) They the Rajaakshe and their kith and kin abused all most everything int his country. NO investigations of the like were heard during his days.
Chief justice was dismissed like a domestic animal was thrown away.
Alone those bone licking dogs like Weerawanse the wording used to attack Dr SB was beyond all ethics and morals

        2) Those men supported them MR days andeven today enjoyed impunity in MR days. Raththaran hora, is Rohitha Abegunawardhana became a wealthy man even if he was then a house driver shortly before entered to Rajaakshe politics.

        3) There seems to be law and order even if we are still no happy with that. But Rajapakshe intereprets it as political revenges. MR as a leader never respected law and order.
Thuggery, abusive defence tactics thorugh his brother Gota, he ran a country harming own folks. But through his lovely media institutions like DERANA, it ws telecasted as no second to the deeds of Zimbabwian Mugabe. Even today, Derana repeat even if Rajaakshe yawns or farts… Derana and Hiru exist to telecast all the highs of Maharaajno. Even Kills sender, SIrasa though faced all kind of tortures, from Rajaakshe regime, even today, no anti Rajaakshe.

This is how lanken situation is reached.

      Dear Salahuddin,

Who is KN? Don’t make it necessary for us to wrack our over-worked brains!

While we are on the subject, may I also request that you divide what you write in to paragraphs?

      my3,rnill,cbk, mr: all have blood in their hands: also all have looted the country: there will be unity so that the other will not left our or prosecuted because their crimes and corruption will be exposed. You cannot see any sign of arrest of any of the leaders or their relatives in the near future;
      The public are fooled again and again; Sri Lanka always goes on begging for aids from other countries and most of the aids received goes into politicians pocket;
poor sri lankans have tolive in poverty for another 100 generation to come out of this misery.

Rajaakshe is not yet interviewed on the issue why ?

I have no doubt Rajaakshes are behind the murders, Drug handlings or any other high profile frauds.

For crying out loud these are public servants in retirement they are not above the law. The President or PM does not have the authority to dictate to the police what crimes could be properly investigated and who they could question. I think the constitution only gives protection to the sitting President.

      • 15
        1

But Prez and PM are the ones to speed up if any deficiencies of the law and order processess are the case. Just let people stay as if nothing can help in terms of due serving the justice – taking faiths set on them away, is no means fine on long run :Today, all thugs, as Dr Senaratne further clarrifies stay roaming in the city.
I collected the news this week – Yoshita Rajapkshe is said to be travelling to a foreign country with the approval of the state, but what he did during his travel was, taking away 500 million from their deposits in Dubai banks… these are said to be facts. Govt has in between received the confirmation. All these sums, how they earned .. over the years should be clear to the nation. Then surely people will starts pelting the stones on Medamulana … Maligawa.
These men are number 01 criminals. Rajakashes real nature is no known to anyone. He is beyond all ethics and morals.

It was mentioned in my past comments on this matter, that where evidence hinted
as to who else had to be consulted to proceed, a stop was placed ad-hoc by the
hierarchy for sheer political reasons. This is very evident and now will be a
matter of importance in the need for hybrid courts recommended by the UN and refuted by MS/RW where judicial matters are concerned in Sri Lanka. Cases
where Murder is involved has a different yardstick because it happened under
Rajapakse Regime and the Justice Minister is so inclined, as otherwise he could
        do better?

    What a farce!

Why the hell do the President and PM need to give the authorities ‘permission’ to question those important to conclude the investigation and charge those who need to be charged?

When will this circus end and these clowns stop with their antics?

There is no shame in our pathetically self-serving leaders and the only reason that they are not thrown out is that there is no viable alternative!

pLEASE see it this way, in a country almost every 2 nd is corrupted. So what can you expect, to decide only for the lesser evil or not.. ? Also we had the chance to elect JVPrs, but they are not yet upto the level or NFF …. that have always been twisting the mindsets of the people.

Some believe these two grand parties have been like bitter enemies each other and now to have joined together for the sake of lanken future is a wonder .
Anyway, there Mr Sirisena and Unp LEADERS have paid a huge price.
May be that will guide the country to prosper..
We did not have any other choices.
Had the people reelected Mr Medamulana, we could have been isolated in the world today.
No investments, nothing but thugs LIKE THAT Chain Robbers, Drug kin Pins like Nimal Lanza, and other killers like Gota promoted men would have been on a rise.
Only problem of the day is that they have not caught allt he sharks yet.

People had the choice of two evils and they chose the lesser evil. You cannot blame the people when they did the best with the choices they received.

Sirisena is pandering to extremist way more than the RW just to keep the SLFP happy and in fear of MR. He is got to grow a back bone if the country is to get anywhere.

I wish I could appoint your parents to govern this country.
But I am not sure if they are clean and uncorrupted either…

Man, just to add the thoughts to CT and other forum is easy than actively take the decisions….. right in the current context, they have to be very caerful… that is what I notice in their symbiosis. sURE; some issues have become very delayed, but that may have their reasons.

It all boils down to Politics and the greed for power. We must never, ever think that the perpetrators of all those high profile murders and the lost billions during the Rajapakse regime will ever “come to light”, although the Country knows what has happened.

2 years have passed , 2016 had been most indecisive.

Political interference in Judiciary by you , your PM along with the vested interested individuals from your government should stop..
The country will have no future until decisive action is taken against your WAYWARD son to start with , Did he or Did he not involve in the Night club saga? Then the follow up begins with all the MEGA CROOKS , THIEVES AND MURDERERS.
You should have given a statement and come clean. You chose to stay silent which is wrong.
Action starts from your own household.

Enough of sharing Hoppers for B’Fast.

You gave enough time for the thieves to bury the LOOT.
WITH YOUR BLESSINGS IT ALL HAPPENED, PARDONED THEM , HAD HAD APPA FOR B’Fast , attended
Manamalayas, and you behaved ignorant as though you’re Brainless!!

Well!! What the hell inside the Brain I wonder.
      Whose side are you President??
We gave you the chance to clean up your house and the Parliament House.
We hoped you’re the best person to clean , what you and your PM has done Lying and Lying and Lying to the Public.

Was haette er machen koennen – what could tHE PRESIDENT do instead ? What alternatives he had then ? In a country … almost everyone is proxy corruption and abuses ? What would you have done if you were fallen in the same position ? Everyone of us can just pass our critic, since we ar enot the ones that take decisions. But JVPrs are theoretcal; JO men hve been waiting until the ship sinks. And this country you cant implement any civilized steps easily – this we got to see day before yesterday in Hambantota – Violent Pinguthathara Monk had been so abusive than their laymen. All in all, pelting stones only hurt the srilankens. I really dont think this nation will ever learn it to behave well.

          Rarity minds

You have picked up 2 important points of which I agree 100% , that’s the reason I drum up on my every comment to get the message home to those violent , illiterate hopeless buggers.

Quote1: you cannot implement any civilised steps!
Quote2: In Hambantota violent Pinguthathara Monk had been so abusive than the Laymen.!

Who made a mess of this country? Somebody had mentioned that it was not the fault of the Theros but the fault of the Journalists !!
Passing the buck is a lame excuse.
The deterioration occurred due to the combination of Tamil struggle , Ape Aanduwe Mantra trumpeted by the
Mahanayakes who were ready to accept any BRIBES , In the name of the Religion bad Practise of Religion were allowed to fester the Religion , resulting the behaviour of the likes of BBS and others. ( eg: Pinguththara Monk)
These So called Religious leaders encouraged the Thugs to burn any other Religious places , Use The worst kind of language by the so called Yellow Robes !! These are signs of deterioration of LAW AND ORDER AND THE RELIGIOUS PATH. NO SPIRITUAL DIRECTION. ARE THEY AT SLEEP?? Too old??
IF THE YELLOW ROBED MEN WHO SUPPOSE TO SPREAD LORD BUDDHAS SASSANA ARE GOING ROUND USING FILTHY LANGUAGE IN PUBLIC!!
Disgraceful for the Religion , Disgraceful for a country.
What about the so called Leaders. we elected to Rule our country!? Their mouths too
SIMILAR TO CESS PITS AS FILTH COMES OUT FROM EVERY ORIFICE OF THEIRS!
Srilanka is MOULDED INTO A ONE BIG CESSPIT.
BAD LANGUAGE, IMMORAL BEHAVIOURS AND ACTIVITIES , PUBLIC THIEVING. Etc, Etc,
Country is dependent on Foreign AIDS , Beg And Borrow.
So these Fundings when they’re received every one from the Top to middle Men gets their shares before the
Actual project or rebuilding the country.

We are seeing NO HOPE FOR SL HERE.
YOURE. VERY RIGHT. Rarityminds , I think too the same for my country and its Future.

RE:Lasantha Wickrematunge Murder Investigation: IGP Awaits Sirisena-Wickremesinghe Approval To Interrogate Gota And Fonseka

    1. “According to the sources close to IGP Pujith Jayasunadara, the preliminary investigation into the high profile murder has now been completed and requires questioning the hierarchy of the former Rajapaksa regime that was in power during the death of Wickrematunge.”

So President Sirisena transfers IGP Pujith Jayasunadara to Moneragala,Peacocock Rock, to watch over Peacocks!

    2. “However the secret unit established in between the decision makers and police preliminary investigators needs to decide if the political authorities requires to proceed and are now waiting for President Sirisena and Premier Wickremesinghe to authorize the questioning of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka prior to questioning Mahinda Rajapaksa.”

This is the Real Test for Yajapalanaya, Good Governance, and the Rule of Law.

Going by the history, what can we expect? Another whitewash.

Why do they need approval from politicians,if they are the suspect then arrest and usual police intoragation they may get more unresolved cases like Thanugadeen etc

After all He is just ordinary citizen though, what to do with Sarath Fonseka,Everyone knows who is behind all these.

But this prez priority is to safeguard the old kingdom,

We have seen how his son’s twice crimes being covered it up,and even the IGP’s “sir” businesses
We don’t stand up to it.gives free ride then blame these white barrel clowns.

We all have to stick together as Sri lankans regardless and make country prosper, but these crooks divide the people by religion and language.

Because it is Governance by the Politicians for the Politicians, and their welfare.

It is like the king and the lords, and the People are the Serfs; Serfs with voting power, and many votes are bought, with various Santhosams.

    Dear all,

“the preliminary investigation into the high profile murder has now been completed”

I guess that this is the good news.

And here comes the bad news.

  • 5

“Lasantha Wickrematunge Murder Investigation: IGP Awaits Sirisena-Wickremesinghe Approval To Interrogate Gota And Fonseka”.That will never ever happen, period.

If IGP believes that there were plausible grounds to investigate even a high profile figure, even if it were the President, he should be able to do so. Tony Blair investigated, so were Benjamin Netanyahu most recently. The two guys here being mentioned are not even heads of state but public officers when the alleged crime was committed. Unfortunately it is happening, even under the current Govt. which came to power making so much promises; one of them was to restore the law and order. If this case was to be shelved, all what had been spent on this far are waste, and going forward not to mention the risks that faced by the officers who actively worked on it to bring the culprits to the book. Forget justices sought by the victim family, it is time to please the extremists and get some votes. Looking back, these were the very issues, made public opinion swung against MR’s regime, and worked in favor of common candidate. The man doesn’t care about it, but now tries to keep the executive presidency for ever. All the clowns surrounded him now, will flee when the time is right.

  • 8

Whether it is Lasantha, Rajavir or the countless amount of media men that lost their life in the north there is one thing that is clear is that those who committed the crime did not have anything against these people and most probably did not even know them. They just carried out orders. The question is who in the last govt had the authority to give those orders.

IGP waiting for authorization is a joke only confirms even under Yahapalana the three arms of govt are not independent and Sri Lanka is a police state. By definition a police state is not that the police is controlling the state but the politicians taking control of the police.

None of these high profile cases are going to be resolved and justice served when politicians are controlling the police as we see here and what we saw in Rajvir case where the state in collusion with the judiciary manipulated the out come.

Among the Sinhalese the people who would have been upset were catholics and the verdict came out hours before Christmas.

It is poor journalism when you insert your own assumptions, readers with the lack of ability to think on their own and those who are bias will not be able to conclude their own assessment.

I believe journalists should consider concluding the article either by stating we report and you the public decide or if they do want to insert their assumption they should pen it in brackets asserting it is their own opinion or assumption.
I admit CT is a good local-based news and also in agreement it is a journalist’s right to be Candid, but being judicious in expressing their thoughts is utmost important lest the journalists become complicit in political spin.

A crime is a crime & so is aiding & abetting a crime. Nobody should be above the law, at least in a democratic country. Law enforcement & judiciary should be independent of all political interference. MS, being a ‘frog in the well’ with lack of international exposure & concerned only with cheap popularity at national level (judging by his apparent public statement that he will safeguard ‘war heroes’ of any war crimes) is unlikely to make waves but at least Ranil, with his broader international experience (who, unfortunately, has been a great disappointment so far), should take the lead to give independence to law enforcement if he expects to salvage any credibility he may have. This maybe his only saving grace.

“ONCE YOU REMOVE A SPIDER’S LEGS, IT GOES DEAF.” A developing story can be connected where our PM is concerned webbed as follows:
“Sirasa TV is planning a campaign for the political entry of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, ‘Sathhanda’ reports.
Under the plan, the television station will accompany Gotabhaya to the villages and discuss problems of the public, in order to portray him as a populist leader.
Also, it plans to campaign against prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and to sabotage the political plans by Gotabhaya’s brother Basil.
Basil’s becoming strong politically is seen as an obstacle to Gotabhaya’s entry into politics, with the latter not attending any of the political functions organized by the former.
Gotabhaya himself accompanied some academics under a programme titled ‘Viyath Maga’ and visited the villages.
The idea to promote Gotabhaya is said to be by Milinda Moragoda, chairman of the NGO Path Finder.
Reports say Path Finder is collaborating with China Institute of Contemporary International Relations in a plan to secure the SLFP’s presidential or prime ministerial candidature for Gotabhaya in 2020.”

This country seems to have lawyers or the like high professionals with backbone to stand against the injustice done to LW or any other victims that always stood against corrution and abuse of high grade.
If only those senior professionals could do the job, it woudl ahve been easy to isolate any kind of high profile murdererer regardless of their status in lanken politics.

Some people are privileged and thrust above the law. Where is the rule of law in this country. What is the use of the Police commission if Presidents /PMs permission is required to interrogate highs ups. Do they do it in all murder cases. Anyway the entire country knows that the previous regime was not investigating the murder. The perpetrators are living amongst us. Lasantha had parents wife and children relations. They don’t believe that Lasantha is dead. They are waiting till Lasantha comes home the way the parents wife and children and relations of the killers await their return. It must be a highly agonizing wait for the killers with the sword of Damocles hanging over them. According to KARMA the killers although may escape now but will pay for the crime for generations to come.

The mere statement that IGP is awaiting clearances to Question GR and SF clearly shows that he cannot act independently in practise. Indirectly it discredits the Counstitutional Council which selected him supposed to be on a non-political,independent footing based entirely on merit.

We recall that the process of having the CC to appoint persons to high public offices were most welcome with a view to de-politicise the public service and that includes the police.

    But what now?

Politicians in this country know to take the voters for a big ride, earn their bucks for seven generations and vanish.

Ranil & Sirisena should not interfere in any type of investigations ke its against anyone be it SF or Gota , let the law of the land take care of it. If they are guilty punish them and if not send them free

These yahapalana crooks will never punish MR, GR or any high profile crook / murderer from previous regime. When they themselves are at fault. Covering each others crime is inevitable. When you think of who would be the next president of the country, Sirisena is out due to his sinister plans and timidness. No body will vote for Ranil after the Central Bank Bond scam. As there isn’t a single electable person to contest next presidential election and the only person that I can think of is GR. By the end of this year people can have a rough guess of who might be the next president of this country.
