Let’s Be Clear, Prabhakaran Was No Hero But A Terrorist & The LTTE Was His Private Army

By Vishwamithra1984

The object of terrorism is terrorism. The object of oppression is oppression. The object of torture is torture. The object of murder is murder. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?” ~George Orwell, 1984

Prabakaran17 colombotelegraphMost men and women in Sri Lanka are ‘reasonable’ individuals. Whether they come from remote parts of the rural country or urban city centers, their foundation of values remains grounded on solid logic, powerful argument and fair judgment. Whether one’s education background is university or even higher, whether it’s elementary or secondary or even with no formal education whatsoever, a reasonable man or woman makes a very reasonable judgment on matters that concern them personally and individually. Yet when such matters become a combination (or a concoction) of issues with diverse means and ends, especially when such issues pertain to their DNA or identity, the collective judgment gets colored and shaded by the vagaries of intricate innuendos; they make a deliberate choice to ignore the ‘obvious’ or in a most convoluted way attempt to look beyond the ‘obvious’.

The collective mindset gets warped; its eruptions become explosive and judgments shaded and ostensibly justified. Emerging from this parade of issues, a less educated and an ill-disciplined mind gets warped in its own innate contradictions; instead of responding from a rational standpoint, man begins to rationalize a predetermined solution in search of a problem that does not exist.

Nevertheless, one simply cannot disregard the legitimate grievances of the Tamil population in Sri Lanka. Standing amongst those grievances as most significant and supreme is that they, Tamils in Sri Lanka, are treated consistently as second-class citizens. That is a very serious and profound complaint. And it ought to receive serious and profound attention from the majority Sinhalese and their elected leaders. Yet the very numbers, the reality of which I wrote about last week, have given the Sinhalese leaders and their subjects, a notion of legitimacy and strength, a belief of inevitability and fait accompli. Emanating from that cushion, the majority Sinhalese have willingly chosen to treat their Northern brethren as inconsequential at best and with disdain and scorn at worst. This maltreatment of a fellow human being could have extremely heart-wrenching and personally agonizing consequences when it is applied individually. And when it manifests itself in a collective body- Tamil minority as whole- the most obvious and instinctive reaction could be agitation leading all the way up to violence and mayhem.

When this festering wound was allowed to become gangrenous, one step followed its logical sequential path. The issues that were not addressed by the Sinhalese leaders from the beginning of the Twentieth Century all the way up to the signing of the JR-Gandhi Accord in 1987 coupled with the animosity and antagonisms of the majority Sinhalese Buddhists towards Tamils in general which were consistently reinforced by the explosive and vitriolic rhetoric by a few fringe groups led by Buddhist monks, became unmanageable in the latter half of the Twentieth Century.

Arguments pertaining to this ‘second-class-status’ plays a critical role in shaping the mindset, especially of the Tamil Diaspora, of all Sri Lankan Tamils. Whether it’s in government offices or private sector workplaces, whether it’s in the University campuses or overseas secondary schools where both ethnic groups have to share and lead mixed-lives under one roof, the attitudinal change that has to occur has not materialized. That attitudinal change is essentially and directly correlated to the physical changes in the structures, laws, by-laws and legislations that the Sinhalese leaders had to introduce and implement.

After failing to reach accord in the SWRD-Chelvanayakam and Dudley-Chelvanayakam Pacts, the solitary agreement that both parties, Sinhalese and Tamils, agreed to and endorsed was the JR-Gandhi Accord signed under the most trying conditions in 1987. Devolution of powers to a vast region so defined as a ‘Province’ consisting of five separate districts, Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Mannar, is real and could have been most productive had the implementation of all chapters and clauses of the Thirteenth Amendment been adhered to. But powers were withheld by the Central Government via its hold on the line-Ministries in the Central Cabinet of Ministers. Refusal on the part of the Center to devolve Land and Police powers to the Provinces was the Achilles’ heel and the price we paid as Sri Lankans in blood and flesh is unspeakable.

The gulf between the two ethnic groups got wider and the wounds so rotting have reached nauseating levels. The distrust and suspicions have gone beyond the normal margins. After four Elam Wars, the debate about the Tamil Question has been passed up to academics, intelligentsia and politicians.

Quite contrary to the accepted proposition of the Thirteenth Amendment, which was the core element of the JR-Gandhi Accord, Prabhakaran continued his murderous struggle, not much as a ‘freedom fighter’, but as a brutal terrorist leader whose arrogance and inability to settle for a compromise knew no frontiers. Instead of countering Prabhakaran’s violent thirst for glory and glamor by calling him a terrorist, the civilian Tamil leadership began to feed fodder into the Elam fire. What could have been contained within reasonable boundaries within their own camp was blown out of proportion and the Tamils started fantasizing about a super State of Elam.

The Sinhalese leadership that governed the country after the JR-Gandhi Accord, starting from Premadasa up to Mahinda Rajapaksa, instead of laying emphasis on the real and honest implementation of the Thirteenth Amendment, appointed select committees to look into the problems between the two communities. It was only the so-called ‘simpleton’ President Wijetunga who called the Northern Problem what it deserved to be called- a terrorist problem. After the Thirteenth Amendment was passed and partially implemented, with the Indian Peace Keeping Forces (IPKF) being greeted with open arms by the Tamil people in the North, it was Prabhakaran who unleashed the second, third and fourth Elam Wars and thereby singularly caused irreparable damage to his own people and their abiding commitment to peaceful living.

On the part of the Sinhalese leadership that arose after the JR-Gandhi Accord, Premadasa, Chandrika and Mahinda (although Mahinda deserves to be credited for the total annihilation of the LTTE and ending the military conflict), barring Wijetunga, tried to deal with the Tamil terrorists as apart from the Thirteenth Amendment.

In such a confusing scenario, while being caught up in a whirlpool of mutually destructive issues and problems, even a reasonable man or woman could be persuaded to adopt a bigoted stance in relation to the issues at hand. That persuasion would be essentially born of his primordial instinct and in order to safeguard his collective identity, man reacts primarily from that identity, either as an individual or collectively. What Prabhakaran preached in the Eighties, Nineties and the early part of this Century is being bolstered by new calls for Federalism by the TNA of today.

Premadasa, Chandrika and Mahinda may have been bright, intelligent and brainy ones, but I dare say they were not wise. Socrates said: “the only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing”. Wijetunga had that wisdom. Instead of raising false hopes by calling terrorism as it is, he accomplished at least one major feat. He identified the primary cause of the continuing conflict in the late Eighties as Prabhakaran and his private army which was the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE).

The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) as the TNA was called then was more than a willing endorser and assenter of the JR-Gandhi Accord. Why not ask the present Government for a meaningful discussion on the honest implementation of the Thirteenth Amendment? The ghosts of Mahinda Rajapaksa and his variety of chauvinism must be left in its proper place- political graveyard. The Tamil leadership should not be haunted by the Rajapaksa ghosts and Bodu Bala Sena thugs. The LTTE’s intransigence caused four wars but today no reasonable Sinhalese leader would deny devolution and parity of status.

Noam Chomsky, the celebrated American philosopher, historian and political activist said thus about terrorism: “Everybody’s worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there’s a really easy way: stop participating in it.” The modern day Tamil leadership must be careful when they give expression to their socio-political goals and beliefs. A bright and intelligent set of leaders should not repeat the historical mistakes of their forerunners. As much as the Republican Party in the United States is suffering the humiliation of having to go to bed with a megalomaniac such as Donald Trump, the Tamil leadership condoned and supported Prabhakaran when the going was good, hoping for ‘a place in sun’ in Elam. American right wing kept quiet when their extremists were questioning Obama’s place of birth. They refused to call a spade a spade and alas, the got Donald Trump.

Tales of human folly are many. Condoning violence and terrorism as a means to power is as old as man and his beginnings. But we become alarmed when we have to live our lives through those treacherous times and among those treacherous individuals. It is still not too late for the Tamil National Alliance and its leadership to adopt a wiser role.

“Let’s Be Clear, Prabhakaran Was No Hero But A Terrorist & The LTTE Was His Private Army”

VP was a psychopath and was not a hero. However, his service was sought after by many.

Hindians used him to destabilise this island then found it difficult to put the genie back into the bottle.

However when the going got tough Premadasa sought VP’s services. He paid VP to fight the Hindian IPKF. Don’t forget the impeachment fiasco, VP was ever ready to send Tamil MPs who were under his control to help RP. They had had a cordial issue based business relationship.

MR’s ascension to the throne was immensely facilitated by VP’s private army. There was no such thing as free lunch. For a handsome fee VP won the elections for MR.

Many in the state institutions and mudalalis in the private sector made money out of misery. Thanks to VP.

His private army fought the foreign army whilst the Sri Lankan army was hiding behind VP’s bum.

He was a very useful idiot and a psychopath.

There is no doubt that Pirabhaharan is a Hero. He is the one and only leader who stood against foregin invasion unlike those Sinhala Fundamentalist leaders who signed number of agreements and handed over soverignity to foregin invaders and foregin nations. It is Sinhala racists signed agreement with Portugese, Dutch & british invaders. It is the Sinhala leadership who signed agreement with India to expel thousands of people who shed their blood to develop this nation. It is the Sinhala leaders who signed agreement with India to bring Indian military to kill our own citizens. It is the Sinhala leadership who sold part of this island to China to massacre thousands of innocent civilians. It is the sinhala leadership who massacred thousandsof Sinhala people and covered with massgraves.

In fact he won two elections and a war for MR.

        Hero

A person, typically a man, who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

Not only Tamils but Sinhalese also admired his leadership. It is a fact. Under his leadership he had an armed force with descipline unlike the Sinhala army who used rape, food and medicine as a weapon. There was no corruption, no violence against women, there was no caste differences, no robberies and people were able to move around with out fear even in mid night. He is a man who saccrificed whole of his family unlike those families who robbed the nation.

              Native,
I am not a psychopath to reread my typing. In the context of Tamil Sinhala problem, it is irrelevant to analyse whether Pirabharan is a terrorist or hero. Pirabharan did not create the problem. He was a baby when the Tamil people were burnt in the streets of Colombo or attack Tamil parliamentarians in Colombo. Pirabharan was not the first one to assasinate political leadership or not the first one to use violence against military or people. “True psychopaths” try to put the blame on some one else but never honestly make an effort to resolve the problem. Now who is the pashopath putting the barrier to find a solution to the problem or to implement the Indo-Lanka accord?

His Private Army was considered a formidable foe by the Sri Lanka & Indian Army.

The Indian army routed the Pakistan Army in two weeks in Bangladesh and the Sri Lanka Army is now teaching the world counter strategy.

Only thing CLEAR is what that states.

Hero or Terrorist are secondary issues, particularly so when underdog or oppressor.

Better leave the labels out as the anti-Tamil riots unleashed by state leaders can also be labelled likewise.

The 8 day war to rescue Bangladesh by IAF was entirely different.Linked to Cold War- the Indian government decided to support the creation of a separate state for ethnic Bengalis by supporting the Mukti Bahini.
If the idea was the same 3 days to capture Lanka- IAF Air Marshall Mehta.

Jaffna Tamil psyche was known to India all along.
The war changed the geopolitical landscape of South Asia, with the emergence of Bangladesh as the seventh-most populous country in the world. Due to complex regional alliances, the war was a major episode in Cold War tensions involving the United States, the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China. The majority of member states in the United Nations recognised the Bangladeshi republic in 1972.

Try a second time JT’s would lose all its b**l carriers in the west.

Socrates started the mania for definitions in Europe. It was continued by Francis Bacon. Shakespeare, who had the most intimate feeling of life, certainly got along without trying to define anything, and for that reason , his words had a `body` which other writers lacked and his language was infused with that sense of human tragedy and grandeur that is often missing today.

Horace- 65 BC – Wisdom is not wisdom when it is derived from books alone.
Socrates- 470 BC Wisdom begins in Wonder

Bacon- 1561 AD – It is impossible to love and to be wise.

See where you are wrong about the idiotic leaders- you have a chip on your shoulder! love and want to be wise- better you go mad.

A leader has to be feared or he has to be loved.
The Belgian king is loved so he solved the problem of no government for 2 years.
The Emperor of Japan is adored.
Franco the Frog was feared. LKY was feared.
All Lankan leaders were an unintentional accident. – a fluke choice/chance and so were their deeds- nothing spectacular.

the proof of the pudding is its edibility- here we are 68 years on in a tug a war with Stone and folk want wool from it.

      Dear Native Veddha,
For your information, a British lawyer and travel author Mr. John Gimlett, who gave a lecture about Srilanka at the high commission in London, displayed LTTE flag to the audience during his talk, and none of the 100 odd people present objected to it. When LTTE flag was flown in Srilankan territory, why are these Sinhala racists jumping up and down about LTTE terrorism.

      • 12

When were these events? If it was when we were fighting a brutal war against the murderous LTTE, the ire of ALL SR LANKANS ought to have been roused against both actions.

Now that the war is over, I personally wouldn’t bother with the romanticisation of the brigand, provided people like Dr. Gnana Sankaralingam who used to specialise in being nasty have decided to reconsider what were racist views.

If, in practical terms, we are to re-build Sri Lanka (or Ceylon, or call it what you will), it must be after espousing a quite different vision for our country.

Dr G.S.: I’d like to think that you have done some re-thinking, and that you have now changed your views in certain respects. Human beings should be able to exercise their judgement and adjust to changing circumstances.

Dear Sinhala Man AKA Panini Edirisinghe

You are a confused person. I have always been a straight forward person calling a spade a spade whoever it may be. I also believe that justtice to be done equally for all whichever your birth or beliefs are. If expressing opinions based on those principles seem to be nasty to you, I feel sorry for your mentality. Please stop attacking me unreasonably without knowing facts.

You are a frog in the well with no internatinal exposure. In UK the government treats both Sinhalese and Tamils equal unlike in the racist Srilanka. For your information, a few years ago I had brought the Sinhala racists in UK to their knees, which I could not have achieved without non discriminatory laws in the country or without continued support of fair minded Sinhalese.

You are talking about espousing a quite a different vision for Srilanka to rebuild it. Could you kindly state this clearly. As I am concerned Srilanka needs unity in diversity, with Peace and reconciliation based on justice and truth. You cannot achieve it with discriminatory laws and practices intact, with no Sinhala dominated government showing willingness to dismantle.

In every period England was able to fight the right war, against the right enemy, with the right ally, on the right side, at the right time, and call it by a wrong name. England did not do it by logic, did they? They did it by their tentacles.

        Dr. Gnana Sankaralingam

Dr Vickramabahu was present at one of LTTE’s post war Mavirar day event in London, paid tribute to fallen LTTE cadres. Th event was telecast all over the world. And he came back to the island.

Gen Sepala Attygalle got the Sri Lankan High Commission in London to issue Mathivathani and her children passports.

What is special about waving LTTE flag inside the High Commission?

At the end of the day could you tell us what the psychopath had achieved in terms of tangible political, economic or social progress to Tamils, Muslims, Sinhalese, the country, the region, the world, …..

        Did he have any friends?
Was he able to save a single life under his leadership?
Was he able to lift ban on LTTE?
        …………
        ……….

The only good thing that happened to Tamils was the accumulation of unaccounted funds which was gobbled up a few.

I am not sure why Tamils and their Sinhalese brethren are so proud of their flags, represented by two horrible animals which never existed in this island. It should say something about their stupidity.

    Vishwamithra84,

Is Mahinda unambiguously a hero? Is Gota? Is SF? Was Bush a hero?

You are correct in that “The collective mindset gets warped; its eruptions become explosive and judgments shaded and ostensibly justified.”

That indeed was the case with Mahinda until the swindle of half the nation’s wealth got exposed. T

That was the case with Gota until SF detailed how the chicken-hearted 7-11 guy set-up acts to warp peoples mind (read the new expose by SF on who was behind the dramatic suicide attack on 10 years ago?). Who is is telling the truth, and who isn’t?

SF was no different, until his savings account in the name of his MIL got publicized.

Similar was the case with Bush until the Cheyney’s weapons of mass destruction scandal saw daylight.

The lesson learnt: don’t let you mind get warped, especially in a collective way and don’t allow your judgment to get shaded! You too Vishwamitra84.

      Kumar R. ,

“Similar was the case with Bush until the Cheyney’s weapons of mass destruction scandal saw daylight.”

      When Bush Sr. was President
Dick C stole $80 billion worth of Oil from Iraq via Kuwait using the shelving method released only recently for USA.
This incident alone created Gulf War 1. (I was there then with Belfast Company and we knew it all before hand via merchant banks; of course the work we had was £1 billion and fully insured which Maggie Paid in full with out fuss because the single vote later kept John Major in Power)

See how people can be systematically targeted until they feel they can barely trust their own sense of reality – what we call “gaslighting”

So when WMD came into being we were aware via merchant bank 60 days ahead of Gulf War 2 that the forces had moved in.”gaslighting” 2

Today when I walk the streets of London and see most folk carrying a cup of Coffee in one hand I smile because its the land of tea that has been taken over. Coffee if served at a pub is cheaper 6 times over. Its all in the media targetting like on ct newsroom- celebrity stars. I don’t see any tea rooms by Tamils or Sinhalese because you have not understood while I see Chinese Chai tea rooms that are always full.

    Mate,

You should tell this to the current Opposition Leader, who called Pirahaparan and his LTTE Terrorists “Our Boys” Yahapalana PM Batalanda Ranil, who alway had a spot for the LTTE and last but not least, “Federal Wiggy” who garlanded Pira as his first official duty, after getting the CM gig, courtesy of the Vellala Tamil TNA.

    And called Pira his Hero..

Wonder whether federal Wiggy has that portrait also in his Office..

At that time all Sri Lankans called them “our boys”

They did not chase out IPKF, it was RP who sent them away…and RP supported LTTE at that point because India tried to replace LTTE with a tamil military group subservient to them

          0

“it was RP who sent them away…”

he did not send the IPKF away the way any sensitive leader should have behaved as we see in the history of the new world.
He ordered the killing of dear Rajiv and kept denying.
That was the stupidity of the islanders- loku olu- went beyond a mandate.
So he met his fate as promised to Neville at Chanakpuriya – with 1 year the same fate.
Why does the idiot Passa have KP, Karuna, a standby force for another event.

You are born to confuse yourself.

Listen! The Sinhala Intellectuals have great history of changing most amiable and pleasant leaders Like SJV, Vanniya Singham, Rjavarodhyam, CV like people as real rebels against the Appe Royal Anduvas. These products are coming from a land which up to mid 1970s has been receiving the award for the most crime free area in the whole country. In an Indian TV CV said the Sinhalese and Tamils are husband wife. This is the man who has been turned into one of greatest admirer of Leader Prabhakaran by Appe Aandu by controlling his hand in every possible direction from running the NPC. Ranil even gave money to Suresh and Mavai instead of NPC to make them turn against CV. Every budget of NPC has been forced to be adjusted to the advantages of Appe Aandu instead of NPC and Tamils.

If you think I am wrong and you are right, can you present the clip CV garlanding Leader Prabhakaran as his duty?

I think his CM gig is really drawing him back. He needs a forward moving car to match the modern era to get help for Tamils. TNA has to think of it.

Stop spreading lies! The LTTE assassinated almost the entire Tamil polity and exerted control over it ever since. This is on record. They went further and intimidated and killed those who did not toe their line. This is also on record. So TNA survived as a political entity on egg shells! As soon as the LTTE was defeated, they wasted no to in renouncing violence and separate state. If you are genuine and reasonable, you will recognise this fact!

And shouldn’t they be infitely grateful to Sinhala security forces for liberating them?

My dear B.I., there is nothing to expose or hide about me. I do not believe in political solutions for there is no conceivable solution. Minorities are demographically distributed all across the island. In principle carving out autonomous political units along the lines of ethnicity or religion will only lead to further disunity, mutual animocity and eventual bloodshed. As far as I am concerned there are only two categories – Sinhala speaking people and Tamil speaking people. Addressing the difficulties of Tamil speaking people on accout of the language must take top priority. My only wish is to see a country where all citizens, irrespective of their ethnicity or religion, are absolutely equal in all respects before law and economic opportunity. Whatever happened it is possible achieve this. There is no other path we can travel together. Tamil political class should stop talking about political solutions. You must try to understand the Sinhala psyche. For them “political solution ” is a threat to subjugate them coming from 80 million Tamils. And federalism is just a steping stone to Ealam – I too believe in this.

“You must try to understand the Sinhala psyche. For them “political solution ” is a threat to subjugate them coming from 80 million Tamils. And federalism is just a steping stone to Ealam – I too believe in this.”

Even if I were to believe you that you are indeed sincere and a good Buddhist, there is absolutely no way that the the ruling class and the Sinhala masses are congruous with your line of thinking. No one can even predict as to the calibre of Sinhala leaders the Sinhala masses produce. We are simply at the mercy of the Sinhala who have repeatedly demonstrated that Sri Lanka is a Sinhala Buddhist state and the Tamil speaking people can live as guests and must toe their line. This has been demonstrably articulated both by the successive governments and Sinhala people alike.

You are worried about the 80 Million Tamils in Tamil Nadu! There is no evidence you can put forward that there is a danger of Sri Lanka will be sucked into Indian rule. There is absolutely no shred of evidence to support this fear. It is just a fear that has been expediently drummed into the psyche of the Sinhala for obvious reasons. But the fear of the Sri Lankan Tamils is real; they have reasons to fear the Sri Lankan government and the people alike as mops were organised and egged on by the Government and Buddhist clergy. The only place the Tamils could run to was the North! Hence, there must be a political solution on the basis of federal structure. The Tamils must have their say and maintain dignity. Should in the future a Sinhala leader in the mould of MR is elected and orchestrated violence against them, they will have a place to run to! You want the Tamils to understand the Sinhala psyche; that is charming indeed! How about you Sinhala understand as to what the Tamils want out of fear and marginalisation?

You need to first come to terms with the reality that the Sinhala people collectively are devoid of practicing equality and respecting diversity. This is a proven fact and you have no way of influencing to alter given that you are for egalitarianism! You had 25 years since the Tamil language was made available as one of the official language; what progresses have been made? You boast that the Tamils live in Colombo in numbers; take Wellavatte for example, how many police personnel can communicate in Tamil? Can the Tamils in Colombo conduct their civil needs in Tamil? There is no political will to accommodate the Tamil language and there will never be such determination! Save your breath soma; stop pretending that everything is rosy. The Tamils must achieve a viable political solution and they will.

            B.I.

Thanks. Permit me to respond to this in detail at a later date. Suffice it to say in respect of the Tamils (Tamil speaking people ) living outside North and East Tamil position is unadulterated hypocrisy. Let me get a list of resons from one political Tamil why those Tamils need not be accomodated in the Noth and east and a list of reasons why a separate political unit is necessary for Tamils from another political Tamil and I will show that one is completely contradictory to the other. I will convince a third party that all this propaganda of Sinhala discrimination is a smokescreen to cover up a bigger agenda. Only logically consistent position is to accept that Tamils(Tamil speaking people) should be physically relocated to North and East. I will elaborate on that later.

Firstly get your language straight. You stating that Sinhala security forces, tells me that you are another racist scum to walk this earth. This entire matter was created by you buggers who continually burnt, murdered and robbed the minorities of this once beautiful country. 80% of the population bullying the 20% of the minorities. You buggers create mayhem, murder, pillage, rape, burn all what we had and we cannot fight back. I am no supporter of the LTTE but the buggers indeed gave you southern buggers a solid whipping for 30 years. I only wish they wiped out the entire Parayapaksa family and his regime before going into oblivion. You should be ashamed of yourself to call yourself a Sinhalese. I have many Sinhala friends and none behave or talk like you. Disgusting fellow.

” refereed to as ‘civil war’ by Tamil writers?”

First appreciate that English is not your mother tongue nor are you a native speaker.

Epistemology has been primarily concerned with propositional knowledge, that is, knowledge that such-and-such is true, rather than other forms of knowledge, for example, knowledge how to such-and-such.

Find out what is ethnic,? Tamils are an ethnic entity.

    Mr Vishwamithra1984,

It’s a very well thought-out and written piece.

But I think you are barking up the wrong tree. I am a simple man with simple thoughts; don’t like to wade into deep water, like to stay close to the shore. And my ideas are build on very simple perceptions.

I believe 99.99% of politicians take up politics to avoid a honest day’s work and many also to acquire wealth. If you cannot refute that premise we have to device a way to get something good out of something bad. How do you do that? I don’t know the answer but I know it is not by breaking the government into smaller and smaller fractions and creating more politicians. Nothing is going to come about by each race, ethnicity, religion, caste …… going into their own corner and fighting their own battles against the others. Even if it is next to impossible in SL, what is required is a collective effort. In small country like SL it doesn’t matter who is providing good governance as long as it’s provided. It doesn’t matter even it was by Prabakaran. If Murali could take wickets did it matter he was Tamil?

I don’t believe self rule solves anything; not for the Tamils, not for the Sinhalese. I am lazy to write all over again, this is what I wrote about self-rule some time ago.

Is Tamil self-rule or a separate country the answer? A country/self-rule or anything based on ethnicity/race/what-have-you is going to end up in disaster. All “freedom struggles” based on ethnicity/race/religion end up achieving nothing but abrogating the “right” to abuse your people from outsiders and passing it on to your own kind.

Look at “Sinhalese Sri Lanka,” imagine the euphoria that would have been around at the time of independence. Look at us now. What is the difference between being abused by White English rulers or your own kind the Sinhalese rulers? To me if I am abused I am abused; who is abusing me is secondary. I do not get any special consolation/pleasure if I am abused by my own kind. If one’s rights are violated to the extent that one can’t live in one’s own country, what kind of freedom is that? After 60 odd years of glorious Sinhalese freedom, Sinhalese are now by hook or crook trying to enter ex-colonizer’s country or any of its’ outposts, by boat, plane or foot. Let’s cut the patriotic crap and be honest here. I don’t care for your words; I know how Lankans have voted with their feet.

There is never ever going to be a Tamil homeland where all Tamils will find freedom just as there is no Sinhalese homeland where all Sinhalese have found freedom. It’s just pie in the sky.

The only Sri Lanka where we all will feel free is a secular Sri Lanka where all the people have the same rights. If you want to be a Buddhist, go and be a Buddhist is your own space; what has it got to do with me? I don’t want a religion to know what is right and wrong. If you want to be Sinhalese/Tamil/Buddhist/Christian/Hindu …… go and be whatever you want to be in your own space; don’t infringe mine.

Just as computer chips approach a end point (speed, size, power etc) with diminishing returns, struggles for freedoms/rights too approach an end-point. In the situation we are in, we are trying to approach that point through an “uncomprehended journey” of conflict and violence driven by not our intellect but by emotions and fate. The trick is, we can circumvent/short-circuit the whole shindig and start from the end-point by utilizing intellect – if we have talent and malevolent-intellect to kill each other for 30 years, I don’t think this is that difficult. It’s just that our efforts are directed in the wrong direction. :))

The task that the Sri Lankan intelligentsia (all races/ethnicities) should undertake is to wean the country from dependency on religions/race/ethnicity/caste ……… And simply come up with a set of rules/ethics devoid of religious/ideological/ethnic/racial ….. connotations. So the arguments/conflicts will strictly be confined to the rules/ethics themselves and won’t provide nooks and crannies for people to hide their other intentions – there is no Buddha, Allah, Vishnu, Marx …. said this or that.

John Rawls’ A Theory of Justice is a good starting point.

PS The simple reason I am writing is, I want to live in my own country.

    Vishwamithra 1984,

Some of your claims amuse me.

“Most men and women in Sri Lanka are ‘reasonable’ individuals.”
Then why do we always elect well known rogues as politicians?

“Whether they come from remote parts of the rural country or urban city centres, their foundation of values remains grounded on solid logic, powerful argument and fair judgment.” This is a big laugh Vishwa. Then why do Sri Lankan people whether from remote parts or otherwise still vote for rogues, murderers, the utterly corrupt and the inept to positions of overlordship over their lives.

“Let’s Be Clear, Prabhakaran Was No Hero But A Terrorist & The LTTE Was His Private Army”. Agreed Vishwa. However lets be clear, Prbhakaran was a byproduct of uncompromising hatred and bloodlust of the majoritarian Sinhala Buddhists. So who should bear the initial blame?

    Look here,

Since 2002 the case has been internanlised completely.

The international community has a legitimate interest in Ceylon because it creates refugees that become a burden on the world.

Unilateral decisions will not be taken lightly by the international community. “Unilaterism” is akin to taking on the whole world. That is why Prabarkan lost.

Ironically, Mahinda Rajapakse also did not take heed of the maxim. Unilateralism got him too in the end.

The current play is a repetition of 2002 with Ranil Wickramasinhe in charge of GoSL negotiations.

Instead of Prabakaran its Sambandan is on the wheel for Tamils. Every move by him is subject to IC scrutiny. The outcomes of this process will be underwritten by the IC too.

So its like guiding the wild buffalo back into habitat. After this the Tamils will not have an excuse to blame anyone but themselves.

“Everybody’s worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there’s a really easy way: stop participating in it.”

The author has intentionally taken the great Prof. Noam Chomsky’s quote completely out of context for his own argument. Prof. Chomsky’s quote was regarding the United States’ foreign policy, he was calling some aspects of the US policies, state terror, asking the US to stop participating in it.

Given what Prof. Chomsky was really referring to in his quote, it is interesting that this author has completely and conveniently ignored the 60 years of state terror against Tamils starting with the anti-Tamil pogrom of 1958 long before the LTTE came into existence. The sheer hypocrisy of attacking the TNA for the crimes of the LTTE whilst ignoring the crimes of the Sri Lankan state is shocking. Wasn’t the Prime Minister a member of the government that unleashed the brutal anti-Tamil pogrom of 1983? Wasn’t the President a member of the Rajapaksa clan (and all the crimes committed by that government)until just months before the Jan 2015 election?

” Condoning violence and terrorism as a means to power is as old as man and his beginnings.”

Isn’t the above statement far more applicable to the Sri Lankan state, including the current government than the TNA?? Why the dishonesty??

    Dear vishwamithra1984,

Yes, we must make this request of the Tamil LEADERSHIP, in this country:

“It is still not too late for the Tamil National Alliance and its leadership to adopt a wiser role. . . Condoning violence and terrorism as a means to power is as old as man and his beginnings.”

I consider myself an average senior Sinhala citizen who would like to leave this country to my grandchildren, and to Mr Sambanthan’s grandchildren as a peaceful country. The Tamil LEADERSHIP must understand this.

However, we must recognise that it is perhaps for ever that Prabhakaran will be a Hero. Let us be willing to tolerate that, but persuade them to accept that their children should be made to understand that Prabhakaran’s strategies and tactics can only bring misery to us all. Not all Sinhalese will be willing to say this, but that is going to be my stand.

We cannot allow the hate that the likes of HLD Mahindapala spew out from Australia to continue. After a guy has been allowed to write a hundred thousand words shouldn’t we be able to ask him to please stop.

We ask the Tamils to be wise; we, too, must grant them the right to their identity and to think highly of those whom they consider heroes but WE DO NOT.

This is clear codswallop! None of these names were “bright, intelligent or brainy”, it was just that Mahinda had the backbone to stand up against the foreign meddling to do what he wanted to do.

Premadasa is the stupidest of the three because he naively gave Prabaharan weapons assuming that he was going to chase the IPKF. Later claims by ‘whitewashers of history’ that he gave the weapons to ‘Mahattaya’ group was a lie. The war dragged on beyond the 1990s because of this ‘blood transfusion’ by Premadasa. This act alone earns him the top rank of stupidity.

Chandrika nearly gave the separate state, under pTOMS, signed without Cabinet or parliamentary approvals before the Supreme Court knocked it down. There are no prizes for guessing this woman’s level of intelligence!

Calling these figures, especially Premadasa and Chandrika is a distortion of Sri lanka’s national history because these imbeciles nearly destroyed the nation.

Any solution to the Tamil problem also should take into account discrimination against Sinhalese in the north and As at present
There is no opportunity for Sinhalese to own land,Live, Work or Enjoy the considerable resources in the Northern province while Tamils enjoy all those facilities in the rest of Srilanka. If this anomaly is corrected No Sinhalese will deny giving full Autonomy to the North

    Vishwamithra1984,

In an otherwise well thought out and analytical essay, you have missed identifying the reasons for the Prabharan phenomenon. How did the north that was an oasis of peace during the first JVP insurrection in 1971, become a hotbed of violence, armed rebellion and terrorism by the 1980s? What were the contributory factors? Why did the peaceful and timid Jaffna man begin to think that violence was the only alternative left, although he himself was sucked ( largely unwillingly and contrary to his nature) into the vortex of violence by the Tamil militancy and the LTTE phenomenon, and became a hapless victim caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea?

How did the State fail theTamils and made them think that violence was the only alternative? Did the attempt by JRJ to teach the Tamils a lesson ( 1977 and the 1983 riots) and his history of chauvinism ( Sinhala only stance before SWRD and the Kandy march against the B-C pact) unkept promises ( vide the 1977 UNP election manifesto) and beligerant speech, made them think so? Was the advent of JRJ as the head of the government the factor that pushed the Tamils to the wall and the Tamil youth to think that violence and deceit had to be met with violence?

The LTTE phenomenon was result of a process. It was a result and not the causative factor. Prabhaharan was a product of the times. He came to represent a hope and died as a consequence of committing greater sins than he came forward to avenge. He was an avenger and not a Messiah. He thus behaved as an avenger, engulfed in his own phobias and shortsightedness. He was an angry young man who as he aged was caught up in a ego that dictated he was invincible and a God-send to the Tamils. His sponsors cheered him on, without cautioning him. He came to think he was the embodiment of the Tamils ( akin to the slogan ‘ Indra is India and India is Indra’). He came to think violence and weapons would deliver what politics had failed. The Tamil politicians and their thoughtless, spiteful and unwise words, and failure to articulate the futility of trying to regain a now untenable past, were ingredients that went into the pot that cooked Prabhaharan and many of his loyal followers. The Tamil politicians also made the problems of the Jaffna Tamil elite and those aspiring to become the elite, the problems of the other Tamils in the Vanni and the East. This was a false generalization that was embedded in the VP and Tiger psyche.

Failure to look deeper into the LTTE phenomenon, would render the wisdom you have spelled out in this essay meaningless.

Break up of Sri Lanka is inevitable.

And this will happen because of the obduracy of those Sinhala-Buddhists who are supporting the Rajapakses and, their unwillingness to resolve this question amicably.

These Sinhala-Buddhists are led by, mainly, a middle class who have had a half-baked education. The university education that brought these people into professions and filled the government bureaucracy were (and still are) those who have not had an “education” any wider than their narrow fields of study, be it in medicine, law, engineering or whatever else.

Then there is their lack of competence in English – depriving them access to the world outside, be it in philosophy, literature, politics, and whatever else that broadens a person’s intellect.

These people, so called “educated”, lead the lesser educated (the masses) in reinforcing the continuation of a Sinhala-Buddhist hegemony in the island.

Sri Lanka is a multi-cultural country where we need to promote and reinforce our identity as Sri Lankans and not by the narrow identities that separate us, such as the language we speak or the religion we pretend to practice. This need of Sri Lankan identity is lost on those who came to the helm of the society through a very narrow Swabhasha education.

Just recently I was speaking to a principal of a well known central school and I was appalled by the narrowness of his thinking, his lack of worldly knowledge and his blatant racism. And, of course, a devout follower of Mahinda Rajapakse!

Future historians will point the finger at three things for the break up of Sri Lanka:

    (1) Rajapakse and his failure to resolve the so-called Tamil Question after the war

    (2) The obduracy of the ill-educated middle class which failed to give leadership to resolving the issue.

    (3) The poor education (Swabhasha and Sinhala Only) which prevailed since 1956.

Can’t you see the reason for him to behave in such an anti Tamil racist manner. It all boils down to his feeling of insecurity bearing the Tamil middle name, and he has to over do to show he is more Sinhala, and an attempt to hide his Tamil identity. He has to really work hard than other Sinhalese and prove to them he is more Sinhala and Buddhist than the other of his counter parts. So let us show sympathy till the baby grows up.

        Dear Sach,
You are wrong. In your anti-Tamil racist frenzy you are coming out with rubbish. Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas were Tamil. It is the Pallavas who were a hybrid between Tamil and Telugu, but they are cousins of Cholas, and propagated Tamil culture not only in India but in South-east Asia as well. Part of the Pallava kingdom is in Tamil Nadu including the Capital city of Chennai, and the rest is in Andra Pradesh. The Chola kingdom was lying south of the Pallava kingdom and is archeologically recognised as Tamil. Unfortunately they are unable to trace remains of Chera kingdom, probably it has been incorporated into the Kerala state.

      This is unfortunately true!

What we now need to do is to take risks – during this time of relative peace!

Both Sinhalese and Tamils must take the risk of reaching out to the other group; learn their language, promote interaction, especially among the young.

This is not something that can be done at State Level. It is we, the citizens of Sri Lanka who must do it!

” learn their language, promote interaction, especially among the young.”

I am told by rural Sinhala teachers, that their students are eager to learn Tamil and English. The state is unwilling to provide the resources including teachers for respective languages.

“This is not something that can be done at State Level. It is we, the citizens of Sri Lanka who must do it!”

It is a colossal task, only the state could provide the necessary resources, including logistics and backup facilities.

The state is unwilling to take these matters seriously, not a priority for whoever runs this country as long as they get the right pay and perks, bit more on the side, they feel they have done their duty. They sit in Colombo and treat the people as if they are ruling their own fiefdom.

          Dear Rajash and NV,

Whatever expertise I have is in this area of Education and English Teaching. I’ve retired but I still have to do some official checking on how the bi-lingual scheme is working.

It has to be bi-lingualism (if we can smuggle the third language in, all the better!). Also, my conscious focus has always been on rural areas. We cannot return to pre-1956 domination of the country by English speakers. However, most users of English (such as those who access Colombo Telegraph) accept this.

The Politicians will always be with us, but they are under sufficient scrutiny.

It is a handful of bureaucrats who are consciously sabotaging the Bi-lingual Scheme. They just don’t want others to become fluent in a language that they themselves have missed out on. The problem is right at the top of the Ministry of Education.

There also is misunderstanding of the scheme. For prestige purposes those using English want to say that they are “English Medium” – and then the programme gets resented by others. There now is clear understanding that children are more comfortable when they are allowed to resort to their swabasha when their skills in English let them down. This scheme is being run with keen awareness of that fact.

There are also problems caused by privileged groups who want to continue domination, by means fair or foul. These guys are very clever at devising slogans to prevent the necessary changes and adjustments from being made. I speak from personal experience. See:

          https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/the-whited-thomian-sepulchres-the-pharisees-who-cheat/

Subjects like that have represented a long personal struggle for me, against the forces that want the status quo to continue. The powerful people that we have to contend with, never show their hand; they are adept at imputing personal agenda on our part! The only agendum that I am conscious of is the need to ensure that we usher in an era of peace and harmony. We have to support one another in this.

What has a deleterious effect on one part of our country or society, adversely affects all others. We have to comment on areas where we have little personal knowledge – but, of course, after carefully evaluating the context.

However, in this area of encouraging trilingualism, I speak from personal knowledge. Although my own knowledge of Tamil is zero, I live in an estate area with a mixed population, and it is indeed true that at the level of students and teachers there is enthusiasm for languages.

Another point must also be noted in relation to “foreign languages”. It is for historical reasons that we learn English; to bring in other European languages is unnecessary. In any event the second best Euro-language is Spanish, NOT either French or German. If Chinese, Korean or Japanese is taught, the motivation to learn will be different, and it is the less privileged sections of society who will be interested. Not many are interested in Literature, and there is little purpose in pushing that, although that is what I’m personally keenest on teaching.

So, I think, NV, that we are thinking on the right lines!

            Sinhala_Man

“We cannot return to pre-1956 domination of the country by English speakers.”

            You are missing the point.

In the case of domination by English speakers, the only way the country could deal with this issue is to teach every child English so that they are equally able to communicate and at ease with “elites”. No one should go back to pre 1956 nor post 1956, it was a curse from which the country never recovered.

The point is that state should take a proactive role in promoting linguistic excellence in this island. Every person who still remains in this island should have access to free learning, three or more languages.

Tamil and Sinhala languages may be good for their ego trips into the past, both languages are insufficiently developed to deal with international trade, technology, cultural exchanges, people to people relation, ……

In essence the state could and should create a level playing field, by providing access to unlimited language (three or more) learning for every person of this island.

It could start at the age of 3 years.

If you want to destroy elitism, equip the rest of the people with the same resources that differentiate the elites from others.

Going back to Sinhala only, will deny the future generation their right to knowledge, skills, opportunities, employment, income, marriage, family life, pleasure and pain of having to put up with children, enjoying a quality life, ….. growing old gracefully, …

You are worrying too much about the English speaking elites whereas I am concerned about providing rest of the people access to learning English.

Though I come from very “backward” community I am for progress.

            • 4

              Dear Native Vedda,

For many moons now I have been straining to believe that you are indeed from The Community in Dambana. I wonder if you know the English teacher in Dambana Vidyalaya, Shelton. He’s from Badulla but has been in the school longer than any other teacher: something like twenty years. I had a hand in training him; I think I taught him English phonology and Literature. Anyway, I think that by now he knows more Vedda Language than English, and he has a Hutch phone.

Anyway, dear NV, I think that we are in broad agreement with each other. Yes, the so-called English-speaking elite do get me mad! Naturally, since they consider me a “gamay iskole mahattaya”. I’ve given my phone number somewhere; why don’t we discuss the details of how we could defeat the racists and enthrone your people once more. This offer of co-operation is made on condition that you don’t force me to take 10% of my body to East Bengal and the rest of the 90% to various parts of South India!

Banda’s 1956 mistake was stating that he would level everybody down; what we have to do is to level everybody UP. However, for my fellow village-baiyyas to overcome their fear of the elite, it is necessary to DE-mystify the English language. However, here again, while the State has to focus on the utilitarian uses of English, I want to be allowed to read Shakespeare and Shelley and Yeats, and to listen to Beethoven and Mozart.

Actually, one of the problems I’ve had as a teacher is that I occasionally play the music of Schubert, instead of Los Caballeros and Super Golden Chimes for their relaxation. Of course one tries to understand what we don’t always take to immediately. I don’t like Rap music particularly, but I’ve tried to understand the music of m.i.a.

What music we listen to is our business, but I’ve also tried to understand what people like m.i.a. are trying to say:

              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmbhjfCU8bY

I don’t know whether you will be able to find this comment among the four hundred odd there:

              Panini Edirisinhe 1 year ago
Dear MIA, I have listened carefully to what you have to say, and I think it’s O.K. for these to be your perceptions. In the run up to the elections I’ve been posting many comments calling myself “Sinhala_Man”, mostly in “Colombo Gazette”.

In those honest comments I was trying to say that we, Sinhalese, had to be reasonable in our attitudes to the minorities. Now, unless I know how to cheat Channel 4, my comments must appear with my name and photograph. The problem with what you say is that you don’t seem to take account of the fact that we have to contend with an electorate which is overwhelmingly Sinhalese.

Now, in 2015, you are a little more than half my age. When the horrible end to the war occurred, I guess I was twice your age (which I have checked just now on Wikipedia). See what I mean? The young age faster! Yes, we used to see you screaming hatred towards all Sinhalese; your performance here is much more rational.

Now, could you please suggest a feasible way forward? Maithripala Sirisena is emphatically not the same as Mahinda Rajapaksa. Please try to understand him, and the task that he has before him. We must necessarily have parliamentary elections, and I tell you that you, too, if you are to be taken seriously, must now help us to overcome those among the Sinhalese who are more suspicious of Tamils than I. As I said, in starting, I agree with almost everything you have said, but nobody who wants to win an election in Sri Lanka can do so unless he/she is willing to shield the perpetrators of war crimes from trial at The Hague.

I think we (we all share a common identity as human beings, which is why the interviewer – although familiar with him, I cannot remember his name – shows concern for what you are saying), yes, we have to now formulate a modus vivendi which will allow voices of reason to prevail. Among the comments below is one by Arya Nayagam which I found extremely disturbing. I’ve “researched it” on the web, and I’ve found this: https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/minister-maithripala-sirisenas-son-brandished-a-gun-at-unp-kris-balathazaar/ I’m still worried, and be sure that I will pass my concerns on to some people whom I got to know during the election campaign where I did what little I could to ensure a victory for Maithripala Sirisena.

There are other Sinhalese who have done much more than I would dare. Please see this YouTube clip. I established direct contact with the speaker only recently, and you will find that the last comment (as of now) made 9 months ago, was by me. Having put it on I was horrified that my name appeared there. I am much less afraid now that Maithri is in charge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spBXxT5dVf0

Well, we all have to die once, and only once! However, the bottom line is this: you have spoken rationally in this clip. Please try to be a little more rational and try to help us build a better Sri Lanka, and a better world!

Dear nasty little Native Vedda, the problem is that despite all my efforts to understand, what you want to do is to repatriate bits and pieces of me various parts of India!

After you have done that, I guess that you will be the elite Vedda Chief!

As I’ve said already, I think that you should ring me sometime to settle this problem of where I really belong!

Patriotism is is due to ignorance. Ignorance is due to misinformation as well as the lack of knowledge. The media , religious leaders and politicians keep fueling hatred in the name of “Anusasana saha deshana ” just to win over their own tribal vote base. If you see now there are three media categories. One for the”Baiyas” another for ” Toiyas”, rest are for “Bai-Toiya and Toi-Baiya” all the politicians ,Religious leaders are regular updaters to keep it alive and they have nothing to lose just enjoy the super luxurious prestige place above those uninformed mass . Everyone born to this world is equal
No one has less or more…
Rich or Poor ..Hero or Villan is in the mind ..illusion
The illusory thoughts are fashioned by the environment one is born to..
it is this thinking…or thoughts in the environment that makes a person
    These thoughts compels Action
We all behave in this way since the creation…Vishwamithra’ s article is an example..
Whichever the name one calls …there are no Heroes or villains …it is an illusion
A Hero to me is a villain to another…
It is this illusion that is given life by the media…which is also an illusion
Govt voted in by the people are Good to some and bad for some
The action of the Govt is good for some and for some..
Society fight each other in this division…because they feel the other has been unjust
The unjust think he is just and the just think the other is unjust…..illusion
In this confusion the heroes or villains are born..
The Govt called democrats or socialites think they are Good…
The Rich in these Govts who gets best think they are Good and Powerful…and the poor think the rich are bad
And the Poor wants to become Rich and Powerful…rich wants to become more richer..
Govts to safe guard the Rich raises an Army..which is identified as people’s Army..they Kill
The poor who wants to become rich and powerful raises an Army ..it is Private Army..Terrorist they also kill
If one is good and other is bad ….why the good kill the bad to safeguard the Good…!!!!!!!
In this illusion for some Good becomes Bad …for some Bad becomes good….illusion
    All are terrorists….
They all have raised private armies…
They have placed people under subjugation….
Because of the illusion of becoming rich …all have voluntarily become slaves…
AS A RESULT TODAY THERE ARE MORE SLAVES IN THE WORLD THAN IT EVER HAD IN THE HISTORY..
    Vishwamithra 1984……WHY…? …..
IT IS THE ILLUSION ….PEOPLE ARE ARE IN SLAVERY…BONDAGE..
for Vishwamithra VP is a Villain or Terrorist…..but for other VP is a Hero or a Good man
Prabhakaran is a Hero for his followers and the Govt and its people he is a Villain ..Terrorists
Govt uses media to create this illusion……
AT THE END IF WE LOOK BACK …
WE ALL ARE BORN TO WORK WORK..PAY BILLS AND DIE….IS IT NOT WHAT WE DO..
THEN WHO IS A TERRORIST AND WHO IS NOT…
    HIK…HIK…HIK…..WHAT A WORLD WE LIVE IN…

“”Everyone born to this world is equal No one has less or more…””

must be in some scriptures where they think for you- brainwashed.

But in from animal being to civilised man Everyone born to this world is equal
yet some are more equal than others.- silver spoon. They enter niches in the market.
“WE ALL ARE BORN TO WORK WORK..PAY BILLS AND DIE….IS IT NOT WHAT WE DO..”
stupid people work all their life.
(1992 a poor refugee from bangladesh (pavement hawker) found his rag doll- cheap spice girls imitation leather bracelets, and regalia and overnight he became a multimillionaire- he does not work anymore)

I doubt you will enter the world of power. When you understand power you don’t work but enjoy its benefits.

        What is power….?
        How one obtains power …?
By killing another who is in power..
        Why power is required…?
To live the way the’ powerfuls ‘ have been living….
When one embark on seeking power….another one gets hurt
and he too embarks on seeking ‘power ‘
        A conflict is created…society is divided …
        And a war begins…..
All because of ME..ME AND ONLY ME. OR I AM
        is it REAL …..
This alone shows you are in an illusion…

          Some thought to ponder:

The British parliamentarian was one of history’s great champions of giving power to the people said this:

          “What power have you got?”

“Where did you get it from?”

“In whose interests do you use it?”

          “To whom are you accountable?”

“How do we get rid of you?”

Mukesh Ambani owns the most expensive Residence in the world at $1 billion in the sprawling slums of Bombay. Each time he places an order with China its $10 billion. He just buys and sells copied by the Bangala pavement hawker mentioned above.

    Vishwamithra1984 –,,

Hey! Did you ever hear of Bill Gates? Now Bill Gates never completed college.

Indeed Vishwamithra1984 –, when people are forced to study, study Study!, they learn by rote, and have little capacity to think laterally and expansively. Greatest philosophers, musicians and poets of the world did not have university degrees. Too much force-studying destroys the God-given capacity to be understanding, caring, and to be creative and logical for the love of humanity.

While it is true there must be a basic level of education a person must possesses, Tamils destroyed their society by putting gingily oil on their children’s heads, and placing the heads in a vice so they could not move the head and were hence forced to look at their books. And that was the softer part of the torturous study process. Young people who didn’t make it through A-levels usually took the easy way out.

Pabarkaran emerged because suffering Tamil masses did not have the ability to protest against their own Vellala set that held all the provincial assets in gold. But when out of frustration they accidently started terrorizing against the Sinhalese, all the gold was released.

Northerners are not treated inconsequentially. No, they are of grave consequence: The Re-Emergence of Terrorism!

Time for Northerners to lighten up and help their fellow Tamil brethren. And not in a rich Western countries that uses the Christian philosophy of caring and sharing on broad spectrum (such that is a relief for caste driven Tamils to realize egalitarian normalcy away from their rivals the Sinhalese…..Sinhalese who have suffered grossly because of Tamil madness). But in their own North, so that ancient call of the Eelam will be replaced by what it was initially- Egalitarianism (aka Buddhism) within their society and their 2nd-cousins the Sinhalese.

You are saying, Egalitarianism (aka Buddhism) is the best way of life for the Tamils. I have seen Buddhists having Bodhi Poojas and worshipping Bo Trees, is that better than the Hindu philosophy?

Before talking about the ‘Egalitarian’ Buddhists of Sri Lanka that I have seen, let me talk about some Theravada Buddhist countries that I have heard.

Cambodia is 97% Buddhist, Pol Pot himself was a Theravada Buddhist (‘Egalitarian’ philosophy) who did not believe in God. He was known as the Butcher of Cambodia, a man slaughter who killed tens of thousands of people.
Thailand is 93% Theravada Buddhist, very famous for prostitution, someone told me Buddhism promotes prostitution.
Myanmar is 80% Buddhist, the Buddhists monks in this country are Barbarians, they are extremely violent and killing non-Buddhists is like a sport for them.

Sri Lanka is 69% Buddhist, I have seen Buddhist Bhikkus behaving like thugs. They take part in violent protest rallies, burn flags and effigies, scream in filth, I have seen a Buddhist Bhikku lobbing a hand grenade at the ShaRuk Khan show in Colombo. A Buddhist Bhikku even shot and killed our Prime Minister. The clergy of the so called ‘Egalitarian’ philosophy is sometimes very violent and barbaric and the Buddhist laypeople are mostly gullible morons.

After seeing and hearing all the above, how do you expect the Tamils to believe that Buddhism is an ‘Egalitarian’ philosophy?

Has 2500 years of Buddhism in Sri Lanka influenced any major changes in the Sinhala society in terms of attitude, character, behavior, morality and so on?

NO, it failed miserably, Buddhism is a total failure in Sri Lanka.

        King Wala Gemba ,

Those Theravada countries are more prone to their Indo-Chinese genetics. However, one can’t discount the millennia of peaceful Buddhist existence in these places before Colonialism and Westernization destroyed their superior way of life.

In Sri Lanka, many dissidents don the robes of the Buddhist clergy. However, as there are a small number that incite violence, it is imperative that Sri Lankan cleans up her religious institutions.

Tamils don’t need to become Buddhist. All they need is the tenets of Buddhism incorporated into their way of life, and provincial constitution.

See once again she is lying through her teeth in order to justify her bogus stories.

“Those Theravada countries are more prone to their Indo-Chinese genetics” LOL!

“Colonialism and Westernization destroyed their superior way of life” LOL!

What a load of bull crap (blatant lies) to justify her bogus claims.

[Tamils don’t need to become Buddhist. All they need is the tenets of Buddhism incorporated into their way of life, and provincial constitution.]

Sinhala Buddhists and Hybrid Modaya army ever followed the following tenet,

And what is right action? Abstaining from taking life, from stealing, and from illicit sex [or sexual misconduct]. This is called right action. — Saccavibhanga Sutta

Give the devil its due. The story goes that VP did maintain a discip-
lined army and surprisingly followed the rules of combat in a war. It goes to say further that he got the bodies of Sinhala soldiers who got killed in the conflict, buried with military honours or handed the bodies to Red Cross with due respect for the dead.Several young female journalists from inland and India, supposed to have visited him in the jungles and there was no fear of sexual harassment and the women soldiers, who were in their teens were safe too. This shows how disciplined the organization was.The truth of it can only be confirmed by ex Ltte’ers or Fld. Marshal Fonseka.

For some he was a hero, for some he was a freedom fighter and for
many he was a hard core terrorist. What ever happened, the politicians could have avoided emergence of VP. formation of Ltte and the horrible war if successive govts. did not side line the Tamil political parties and cheated on the Tamils ,which prompted the Tamil youth to rise up with an armed struggle, resulted in untold hardships for both sides
of the divide. This was a good lesson for the current Govt. and the
reconciliation efforts that they are taking now will certainly lead
to peaceful settlement of the Tamil problem. We lost 30 years of progress due to the war, unnecessarily.

“The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) as the TNA was called then was more than a willing endorser and assenter of the JR-Gandhi Accord. Why not ask the present Government for a meaningful discussion on the honest implementation of the Thirteenth Amendment?”- The forgoing statement is extremely crude and Under-informed statement. For writer’s question, there cannot be meaning full discussion about 13A as it cannot be implementable. Sampanthar and CV opposed reversing the 13A and insisted build a solution beyond that. We do not believe in keeping 13A will let any way to progress. So we want it abandoned it restart all over again. Writer may want to read Stayendra’s criticism on the 13A http://tamilnation.co/conflictresolution/tamileelam/88comicopera.htm

The writer is misrepresenting the facts because of his confusion of the events. TULF worked with India. TULF was not a party to accord. Accord was between India and Sri Lanka. 13A is an amendment introduced by JR. This was not drafted by India; not included in the accord. 13A was not accepted by TULF. It is a purported misleading statement by the writer. TULF abandoned its call for separation not because of 13A. It was on a different occasion and long before the accord. 1981’s 6A was the reason to TULF go silent on separation.

Further the writer is confusing current TNA as the previous TULF. TNA is a completely new production of LTTE. Rebel parties and Federal party formed the TNA. Federal party was the main element in the Vattukkottai Convention. Congress stayed back as TULF by the virtue of the secretarial job remained with Ananda Sangaree. This has been a long struggle between Sangaree and Sampanthar, until Sangaree was made a nameless person in the NPC election. Sangaree kept the TULF with him. So Kumar Ponnampalam revived the Tamil Congress, the other element in the Vattukkottai Convention. Latter, because of the personal fight Kumar had with Chandrika, he bent towards LTTE. So basically, by then, the Federal party and the Tamil Congress have accepted LTTE’s political initiations. But Sangaree was holding the empty cell of TULF. When the TNA was formed, LTTE made Sampanthar as the leader because of his political maturity, not Kumar or A Sangaree. Eventually Chandrika was blamed for Kumar’s death. Remember this, Sampanthar was appointed as the leader of TNA because politically he was the most acceptable candidate for the job by LTTE. Sampanthar fell apart from LTTE many times, but appears to be having not changed his political philosophy.

TULF officially did not support the 13A. So it did not contest and accept the CM post of North-East Council’s CM Job. Varadhar Annie of EPRLF got it with very few voting. It similar to Dougie got elect first time and became minister with very few votes. Almost within a year, they too rejected the 13A. Pillaiyan was leading the separated Eastern province for some time. He claimed his job did not have authority to appoint even a peon to his office. Basically never a Tamil group accepted the 13A. It is the illusion of the writer claiming TULF accepted it. There is no truth in saying TULF had accepted the 13A.

Racial exclusivity is what Tamil Tiger racists and LTTE rump want for a 12% minority to control 45% of the landmass and 60% of the coastline. Not gonna happen. Do away with Thevasalam laws and be honest about Malabars and Tamil colonization as well. As for differences, there are no phenotypical or genotypical differences between Tamils, Singala and Moore people. All dark skinned, S.Indian and mixed with Bengali mix. Short, dark people with Afro blood too. Mangala Samaraweera looks like African-Malayali mix with his thick lips, thick nose and bulbous eyes Ranil looks like fair skinned Malayali mix with pink protuding lips of legend but a narrower nose than regular lankans. CBK looks very much like thick lipped round nosed Tamil mix. JR looked muslim with his massive nose, Jaa as we say or Malay. MR looks very Malay and so does GR and BR. Fonseka looks very Tamil. So that is not the point. POINT is there are now two distinct cultures and linguistic groups.

Tamils want to carve out a separate nation exclusive only to them. Cannot happen. Giving more autonomy to make economic decisions, taxation decisions, development decisions, land decisions yes but there should be a National amendment to say no one tribe or ethno-linguistic group can demarcate land for one group or prevent another group of buying, investing in land etc in any part of the nation. Only Tamil racists want to have the cake and eat it too while most Tamils live in Singala eelam. Why this double standard?

USA touts one man one vote. Reality is that. So blacks do not get 15% of the seats, Hispanics do not get their proportional percentage. Gerrymandering is used to carve out seats or to block minorities whenever a party takes control of the state house. GOP is really good at blocking out democrats by diluting black votes in the South. Wake up man wake up. If Tamils claim they have a right to wage war and blow up suicide bombs and recruit 14 year old child soldiers then Black americans should have been strapping nuclear bombs and blowing themselves up for the centuries of savage atrocities.

      You are right.

      This is too much.

Are you considering 12% landmass and 12% coastline?

    VP was all that

    Terrorist – for many reasons

Hero – in the face of danger, combated adversity, ran a separate state for near 30 years, more balls than brains and refused Ranil’s federal solution, why?

Megalomaniac – does not want to give up any power

Hero to Zero – a man who had a big task in this feat was SF, even he recognized that he fought to the end and refused to escape when given the chance in 2008, confirmed by KP

Not an anti-caste Saint like Ambedkar, but contributed to it from a young age, though born to a privileged caste young VP took the oppressed caste youth to his family temple disregarding the ban imposed by his father, the custodian.

The problem of the peninsula is you can never behave without a god in public life.
If anyone needs to learn yoga there are schools or good neighbours. I am aware of a low caste JT who learnt it from his neighbour then was forced to join LTTE and his family was sent to UK. then he with loot escaped to UK.

That was the blood and gore organisation headed by porriki fatso poo.ltte.

      You need not think to speak the truth – but you think too much;
      lying through your teeth.
