“Made From People’s Atoms”

By Mevan Perera

In a few days’ time Sri Lankan people would have elected their most uncertain President. Through the prevailing socio-economic instabilities, Sajith Premadasa, Ranil Wickremesinghe or Anura Kumara Dissanayake will be elected President. This ‘Uncertain President’ will lead a nation consisting of a majority of immature, dramatic, childish, ultra-sensitive and sentimental people. This vast majority are quite an unbelievable bunch.

Whoever is elected this Uncertain President, they have my sympathy. Because the cursed seat of the Presidency with executive powers has historically destroyed the man, woman, their virtue, reasoning, humanity and wisdom. There is no greater enslaving defeat such as the Sri Lankan Presidency with executive power. The very fact that 38 conscious and rational males, in their present minds are fighting this election, literally forsaking their lives (one actually passed away, may he rest in peace) is a testament to the vivid hilariousness of the world created by the maker.

All three election campaigns of the three front runners consisting of hyper emotional, romanticized content are potent enough to dumbfound any rational man or woman. Those sentimental ladies and emotional “educated“ who write cringe love poems and claim that they lost their reason looking at him and lost consciousness listening to his voice deserve a minute of silence at this historic juncture reminding us that the world, for all its troubles has not run out of mirth. Such serenaders cause grave harm not just to Anura but to any politician. If you want to know the danger of massaging the ego of any man look no farther than Ranil. A distinguished man has been reduced to a tiny narcissist thanks in part to an overfed ego. Like a human balloon he floats up and up, aimlessly fed by the helium of false praise. Why does he do that? He could have exited with grace, and been a diamond in the crown of history.

To those who ask me whom I will vote for, I say “it’s a secret vote”.

But there is a voice in my heart.

Amongst the Presidential candidates, Anura is one of the few who possesses the rare intellect that is required to build the society we dream of. He is able to entertain ideas without bias. He possesses the human decency of being able to respond to the other without political bias. He is a person who travels this land and meets people with a present mind. He is able to process being adored without being consumed by adoration. He loves himself but is not intoxicated by love. He is well aware of the utility, ills and the limitations of socialism. Anura is aware that he is made from the atoms of the people. He has experienced untold poverty and inequality, and yet he has managed to survive. He is a living tribute to free education and free health- two pillars of our social morality that has no about ensured his survival.

Those who vote for Ranil are better than Ranil as humans. Those who vote for Sajith are more honest than Sajith. Ironically, the majority who have come forward to vote for Anura are not really as good or as honest as him. The ‘artists’ who flank Anura (that consist of a new human species called changed after realizing their mistakes) and the Viyathmaga type ‘professionals’ scare me. When I see them, I feel sorry for Anura. I fear for him too. I feel so because amongst the current candidates Anura is the only politician who I feel is better, more honest, more humane and fairer minded that his following. He is better than his predecessors, followers, serenaders and ‘friends’. He is wiser and sharper than them.

Our leader should be someone who is ahead of us. He or she should be nonchalant by praise and able to look beyond the arc of reality to imagine the future of humanity. This has been force- forgotten by us.

The leader should be better than I.

To me, Anura is better than I.

Do we need such a person? ‎

Author calls Ranil full of Helium of false praise. Do people know what Helium will do further to human beings through Helium atoms. Ranil is fuller of desire for the power he has tasted as President and not necessarily looking for atoms. But there are 38 others in the same bid for power, one having died already. Do all these 38 aspirants want to give the citizens of this nation, a better future. If so, surely there is a future prosperity for all.

Out of 38, only 3 are serious candidates. All other 35 candidates are there to confuse the voters.

Ol’ Al discovered that gravity bends/warps light (is that correct STEM Lester?) ………. the Lankans have taken his work further, and have discovered/proved, that love/liking bends/warps reality: love/liking for a person/political-personality.

I feel like an observer in an adult/old-age kindergarten ………. Native, be quiet and take ye seat …… OC keep ye hands off …. SM pull up ye zip ……. wipe ye nose ……

Feel like Eddington sitting around ……. witnessing an eclipse of reality ……..

If you guys don’t watch out and come back to reality ……. LS, an outside observer, who can easily see what crap is clogging ye minds ……. will steal all ye women and vanish!

At least, there’ll be one ecstatic happy camper ……. except for Native, most others will feel the loss ………..

Do you know why members of Rajapaksa clan are leaving the country one by one? Are you ready to give them Red Carpet welcome?

Tony, I beg to differ. All are there to remind us of the futility of the presidential system for a country like Sri Lanka and the utter waste of public resources every five years.

Mani, I agree with you. Need to scrap the presidential system as utter waste of public resources, which if utilized for citizen welfare, would have upgraded education and health and other sections too, with prosperous future for all citizens. The robbers have greedily grabbed all that belongs to all citizens, with nobody willing to legally recover robbed money

Even a rich dog no matter the size of crime records can become a presidential candidate. What an election commission. That alone proves well about the lower state of our current EC.
Medamula BP s should have avoided contesting considering that their lives were saved by incumbent president 🤔. Truths have no room in the sakkiliya led nation as of today. All these created by medamulana b***ge puthas along with stupid slaves misled by SB mentality 🙄 😑 😒 😐

I think that the voters can do with some confusing.
The three ‘serious’ ones are themselves cofusing, and why not a little more confusion so that the winner knows that he is not wanted by the majority.

I really would like to hear what song these hosanna-singers will be singing in a year’s time. If they haven’t disappeared, that is.

The good thing is that it is in your heart. If it were in your head, you’d be called a psycho by men ( and women) that has no voice of reason in them.

Okay one is a narcissist, the other loves himself….I see what you did there… but let’s just keep it between ourselves. After all I don’t like Ranil either….

I love the the phrase immature, dramatic, childish, ultra-sensitive and sentimental people. Also he describe Ranil’s narcissistic nature well. In current situation choice is very easy AKD.
Weather he will deliver after the election or get changed by his surrounding or become another narcissist we will have to wait to see.
People should not look in to the past too much because they will find no one to vote for .

The issue isn’t necessarily what Anura says or his intentions—it’s whether he will be able to deliver on his promises. There are three key challenges that I believe will make it difficult for him to achieve what he says:

The Core Ideology of the JVP: Once in power, the core ideology of the JVP will inevitably resurface. You can’t blame them for it, as it’s what they genuinely believe in. While communism may sound ideal in theory, it’s not a practical system given the diversity and imperfections of human nature. Historically, this approach has struggled to work.

The Attitude of Entitlement Among Sri Lankans: A significant portion of the population feels entitled to free handouts, and there’s a pervasive sense of envy towards those who are more successful. Even in rural areas, if someone does better than others, they’re often pulled down through rumours and negativity. This sentiment forms a core part of the NPP/JVP support base in the villages, and these feelings of resentment may rise to the surface and lead to revenge-driven actions.

Overpromising and High Expectations: Finally, there’s the issue of overpromising during the campaign, which creates high expectations among voters. We saw a similar situation with Obama in the U.S., where catchy campaign slogans didn’t necessarily translate into sustainable change, and disappointment followed. Ultimately, the U.S. ended up electing someone very different afterward.

tkd, agree that the core ideology of JVP will resurface as their genuine belief is that. As you say, waiting for free handouts, and specially in villages when someone does better, the “pull down” resentment becomes obvious. This overpromising creating expectations works in a negative manner. Governing a nation successfully with Marxist ideology has never worked effectively.

For 76 years, Langkang leaders made promises, which they did not know they did; those were accidental -unintentional (the autocorrect for words of mouth) or intentional but only to deceive the people, they lied. There were no elements of do-ability needed to be present in those promises, i.e. something like “rice from Moon”, or white elephants like Hangbangtota Harbor. or even unwanted rush projects “Accelerated Mahaweli”, though the project is completed, but country’s agricultural industry is not properly reaping benefits for the money spent. The county has been devastated for 76 years by crooks in many dimensions-aspects. Economy, Health, Education, Culture, Unity, Peace, Crime and Justice, Infrastructure, dwellings ……. Anura may promise some of these and may not for various reasons (one is avoiding cramming everything in one term like accelerated Mahaweli project.) Beyond that, people will be expecting something on their end, but not included in the manifestos.
Country has no money. All the loan payments are stopped so the arrears accumulate. Negotiations were not done with the true intention to bring the loan amounts down, but these negotiations were only to please the IMF.

No straightforward methods are open now to obtain loans, other than IMF’s bullying. All other methods are abused and spoiled. So, nobody has any sure idea of how all this can be budgeted and funded. Many expect Anura to win the presidential election based on his charismatic leadership. But what about the Parliamentary election? Again, from where the needed votes are going to come to have all these promised matters passed in Parliament. Even if Anura wins the EP election, the parliamentary election would turn out to be a tough one. Further, if Anura misses the targets which the people set by themselves, they would turn out to be angered than they would be with the Old Guards, because they are voting for Anura expecting a change, and they may not be looking for change from the UNP-SLFP Union politicians. Still, I guess voters can put faith in Anura and vote for NPP because Anura is a flexible person to bend and be adoptable as per the situation demands. JVP was born as an Extremist-radical communist party. It is he who nurtured it as the only moderate party in the country, with his center -left socialist ideology. That one point is a lot for people to put faith in him. He would change himself as the way the local democracy needs and international relationship expects him, without abandoning his ideologies.

Of the four main candidates, three are ‘connected’ to the following –

    ’81 Jaffna Library arson attack.
’83 violence against innocent Tamil people which led to a 30 year war.
Murder of 60,000 youth during ’88’89 and ’90.
    Torture chambers.
Easter Sunday massacre of hundreds of worshippers.
Deaths of Richard De Soysa, Lasantha, ,Ekneligoda and numerous other journalists.
Billions of Dollars stolen from the poor men and women of this country.

The decision of whom to vote for should be an easy one for men and women with a conscience.

Pundit, You forgot the JVP action of Rohana Wijeweera in 1971 against the police, and the southern youth killings, including that of beauty Manamperi. The JVP closed all universities for 3 years, around 1988 and the UNP tortured and murdered them before the universities could be reopened again as normal. Will some of these memories remain in the present NPP, which has vowed allegiance to Palestinians with terror outfit Hamas.

” JVP action of Rohana Wijeweera in 1971 against the police, and the southern youth killings, including that of beauty Manamperi.”
Let us get something straight. Who killed whom in 1971?
        *
“the UNP tortured and murdered them before the universities could be reopened again as normal.”
So it was for such good cause.
Has the UNP recovered from the public reaction to its actions in 88-89?
        I doubt.
The UNP now relies on opportunist partners to face the polls.

Still desperate to protect Zionist fascism?

    Is that an adequate qualification?
