Mano Tittawella In Dual Role: Opposes Reconciliation By Promoting Lies Through His Media House Despite Top Reconciliation Role

Mano Tittawella, who also holds the position of Secretary General at the Secretariat for Coordination of Reconciliation Mechanisms appears to be opposing reconciliation instead of fulfilling his duties of promoting reconciliation in the country.

Gossipking.lk, a site owned by EAP Holdings, of which Tittawella, is the Chairman, was seen recently promoting a fabricated news story, which originally appeared in the Divaina newspaper with regard to the death of the two Jaffna university students and the bike they were traveling in. The same story claiming that the bike used by the students were an illegal one, was also highlighted in the Swarnavahini Live@8 Facebook page. Swarnavahini is also owned by EAP.

On October 25, a Divaina journalist by the name of Keerthi Warnakulasooriya wrote a fabricated news story claiming that the motorcycle used by the victims were a 1000CC motorbike, banned in Sri Lanka.

The story went on to say that the bike was ‘gifted’ to the victims by the diaspora (Tamil) living in Britain. However, the story was confirmed as a lie and was seen as a mischievous attempt aimed at spreading lies and attempting to justify the shooting incident which left two youth killed after police opened fire at them last week in Jaffna.eap

“The news media that comes under Tittawella should at least be responsible in their reporting, instead of just reproducing lies aimed at breaking down reconciliation. This is obviously planned, Keerthi writes lies, and Chathura De Alwis of Derana and other likeminded channels such as Swarnavahini promotes these lies,” a media researcher told the Colombo Telegraph.

The Divaina story has also received wide protest with civil society representatives writing a letter to the Divaina Editor, Jayantha Chandrasiri to protest against the article which appeared under the title ‘The Jaffna students who were shot were riding a prohibited high powered motorcycle.’ “The Bajaj CT 100 which the students were riding is a 100cc motorbike and NOT a “prohibited 1000cc bike” as stated in the news report. Furthermore, the writer uses this blatant lie, couched as a “fact”, to deliberately shift the focus of the reportage, and insinuate that the shooting, an incident of blatant police brutality, can somehow be explained or justified,” the letter signed by 55 people said.

They also called on the editor to take strong action against Warnakulasooriya for his irresponsible journalism, and issue a public apology for the newspaper’s unethical journalistic practice and policy.

The Motor cycle is legal, however how it was used perhaps isn’t!

The part of the body where the bullet entered will easily determine who is at fault.

The allegation is that the Motor cycle came charging towards the policeman when ordered to stop.

If the bullet entered the body from the front then the cop can be exonerated.

However, if the student was shot at his back or side then the cop could be guilty of man-slaughter.

Can’ understand why the UNP IGP’s constables shot these two Mopad riding students.

Yahapalanan PM Batalanada Ranil even cracked a joke in Parliament saying this is just an Aaava Giyaa..Come and Gone incident.

    But he didn’t mention Baava..

The Constables involved have been remanded and face lengthy remand periods even if they can’t be convicted.

That is if the Yahapalana Law applies to the Constables the same way Batalanada is applying it to the brave Military Officers.who took the fight up to Mr Pirahaparan.

The lying is the least of what should worry us – lying is in the DNA of (mostly) male Sinhalese. But the fact that he is heading Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanism. He should be taken out of that immediately. If not, why should people belief that the Sinhalese actually care about reconciliation?

Reading the twists and turns shown by responsible Journalists and biased news media we can see how far away we are from any meaningful reconciliation in our country. Shame on you President Sirisena.
It’s seven years since the end of armed ethnic strife and two years since the people voted you in to bring peace. If this is what you have achieved until now better tell the UNHCR that you have failed miserably.
We better have a hybrid justice system to sort this out.

    De Silva,
How the pillion rider died ? What are your theories on this ?
Why the whole thing was reported as accident ? What are your theories on this ?
How visible was the barricades ? If no barricades what signals the policemen gave ? Was there a night curfew in that area ? How do the students know these people are policemen ?
When the pillion rider died ? On the spot after the crash or later ? What are your theories on these ?

    Some historical events :
    1. 1958 riots were caused by citizens in the NE
    2. Thugs evicted SJVC & his team from Galleface green because SJVC gang created it and they deserved it.
    3. Police or the armed forces had the right to maintain law and order so they set fire to Jaffna Library and the citizens of the north has to accept the police & armed forces verdict.
    4. 8 people died during the International Tamil Conference because the police were doing their duty to maintain laaw and order. Tamil citizens broke the law and have to accept the consequences.

    5. 1983 riots was started by the Tamil Citizens in NE. Police and the armed forces obeyed Cyril Mathew – JR orders allowed the Sinhalese citizens to punish the Tamil Citizens to maintain law & order.

6.Lasantha, Raviraj,Ekneliyagoda, Sivaram and many others were killed to maintain law & order. They all deserved it because they were terrorist supporters this is the unofficial or official answer from the authorities.

Who appointed this Bovine Head to an important position. Someone in the calibre of Prof. Rajiv. Wijesinghe only deserves such a position. This bovine head has a cheap MBA from UK which many Sri Lankan idiots with money have earned. He is not different from those cheap folks.

One shouldn’t be surprised at his inability to comprehend the gravity of conflicting roles he plays at two organizations.

Blaming the make of the motorcycle to ‘justify’ the shooting deaths of the two students who rode it can happen only in Sri Lanka.
The man who allows publication of this type of news should not be in charge of “reconciliation”.
The journalist who wrote this piece of news is a disgrace to his profession.
