Mythological “Jeromism” & Misleading Religious Formula

By Rehan Fernando

Rehan Derrick Fernando

These days Sri Lankans have found a new topic to continue their religious mythology to create more national crises. The plot of certain religious is quite successful since Jerome the so-called prophet has become a victim nowadays. Jerome Fernando got stuck with the concept of enlightenment since he overstressed Jesus the light of the world. Jerome has entirely forgotten or willingly has ignored that Jesus is appeared to be a light not only Christians but for the whole humanity. However, he did an overacting in mentioning Jesus’ name to create a superfluous religious Hullaballoo.

Difference between a prophet and an artificial king

The bible always speaks of contextual prophetic functions. Jesus himself fulfilled his prophetic function. However, biblical idea of a prophet goes beyond Jerome’s misuse and misconduct. A biblical prophet is ready to give his life and speak the truth. It is not a matter of just healing sicknesses and shouting with FM microphones. Instead, a real prophet has an obligation to represent God and his precepts. It is a matter of carrying God’s words who is just and faithful.

Mistakenly or consciously, Jerome has carried out a luxury type setting for his preaching. It is not only an odd myth, but also a wrong Christian formula. I think Jerome is appeared to be an artificial king. He is not capable of carrying God’s message which is just. Thus, Jerome’s formula shows a massive political assistance behind the screen. That is what I call “mythological Jeromism.”

Sri Lankans who need something always

In this country, one thing is very clear, this country cannot continue to exist without a fight or warfare, political struggle, protest and march, fire & water, uneducated politicians, huge cues for gas or fuel or dead constitution and so on. Sri Lanka gets its life through such bloodshed and killing of each other.

Now, what Jerome has done is “illan parippu kemak.” If he really wanted to have a luxury type prosperity gospel witness, he could have done it in accordance with his super luxury structure. Yet, he began a superfluous religious hullaballoo in comparing non-Christian religious teachings with Christianity. That is a stupid gesture, and he showed his first-class luxury witness with a third-class comparison. If he has no proper knowledge of the sacred texts, then better he keeps his mouth shut. Unfortunately, he is also a Sri Lankan who needs something, a fight, or an issue.

Along with Jerome’s foolishness, there is also another super group that is waiting to create more crises. They are none other than racists and nationalists. They have already come forward to punish Jerome, because for them, Jerome has an international plot. Therefore, a case can be easily filed to punish. Perhaps, Vimal Weerawansa can be a shouting-prophet now.

It’s a broken glass, cannot be fixed again

In my opinion, these types of problems in this country can be compared to broken glass which can never be fixed again. We hardly encounter true coexistence with better religious unity. All religions speak of the truth of life with different aspects. Such a diversity is not a fact for divisions among people. Instead, it must be a wonderful diversity for a meaningful unity. Unfortunately, Sri Lankan always carries pieces of a broken glass. There is no way to fix it. Once Bandaranaike came did a political division, while Sirimawo kept citizens in hunger. Afterwards, JR Jayewardene welcomed open economy in destroying local products and then Premadasa began to get rid of many to protect his inferiority complex. Then, Chandrika, Ranil and Mahinda governed this country in mythological hypocrisy. Later Gotabaya left the office without even informing his supporters. These are pieces of our broken glass. And we carry the rest of the pieces willingly and consciously now.

Concluding remark

Jerome is promoting a myth; it is not true Christianity. The essence of a religion does not rely upon superfluous noises, but it depends on silence, contemplation, and discernment. I expect, at least by now, Sri Lankans would open their third eye and work as mature people. What Jerome follows now is nothing, but the myth of many others in this country. Jerome’s mythological U-turn reflects the basic attitude of Sri Lankans who misinterpret Sacred books. That is not true religiosity.

A religious person should know that religion is dead now, but Dhamma remains as it is. So, relying on Dhamma must be the way of life. A man like so-called prophet Jerome will never understand the true essence of Dhamma.

All religions are based on some myths. I am not sure weather it is original preaching or subsequent addition by followers make it look appealing. It is unlikely the dead person can rise, Blindness and cancer cured by power of the religion. Thease kind of thoughts are rooted in people who are simply religious but not able to understand core teachings like love, kindness and not punishing like qualities.
These false believes gives poder for people like pastor Jerome to preach falsehood. Every religion has their fair share of myth and false devine powers.

Well, the curse of the Ferandos ……… All bastards; one and all!

He is not doing anything our politicians haven’t done!!

Only thing is ……. he’s upped the ante ……. and doing what the pols have done all these years – deception – much much better with great finesse and élan !!! ……. The pols cant just hold back their envy! ……… Holier than thou is pouring out of the woodwork.

He’s got style! …… I wore that exact same purple for a Halloween-ball.

I used to hate politicians and religious-charlatans with a passion.

Ol’ Jerome has finally opened my eyes ……. to the usefulness of religions.

          “Ferandos”

          OC,

After I discovered the spelling error and couldn’t edit it …….. I was curious who would get to it first …….. SM must be occupied with the more ephemeral ! :))

Thank God, no one attacked the Ferandos’ caste: whatever that is. …….. I don’t even know the names of all the castes in Lanka ……. but know how one-upmanship works over there …….. people of the same caste feel superior to others, if their ancestral home is situated a little higher in elevation/sea-level. :))

The only person, I cannot do one-upmanship on, is Native Vedda: the original inhabitant. ……… But he, in his Amude and Katta on his shoulder, cant upstage Jerome in his purple garb ……. or Mahinda in his red-shawl-ed National kit and Ranil in his Savile Row suits.

Everyone is dressed for business! ………. Except poor Native.

Is the past history rife with ……….. a large numbers of Portuguese men fathering Lankan kids? …….The mystery gets deeper and deeper: should let the local Sherlock, Sinhala_Man let loose on it. He is the only local talented enough – in the appropriate skills – to measure up to the old sleuth. …….. He is, all cloak and dagger himself! :))

Thanks, nimal, but I don’t think that I have all the skills that you credit me with.
              .
On the other hand, what do you mean by this: “He is, all cloak and dagger himself! :))”. Where’s the evidence for you to say all that?
              .
Also, since I’m perfectly satisfied with your attitudes, I don’t need to know your identity. There must be good reasons why you don’t want to take on additional problems. Of course, I have guessed certain things about you.

nf, All these garments tell a story. Christian receives robe of righteousness from Jesus without paying money for it, after the garment of salvation. Isa.61,10, Zech.3, Acts 19.2 Then man’s spirit becomes the candle of the Lord.

Religions are made up of cults [a god or group of gods]; creeds [various myths associated with the god or gods]; rituals [how each god or gods should be worshipped – prayers, hymns, offerings, special garments etc.]. All religions have a priestly caste who may dress differently. They are supposed to be closer to the god or gods. The priests have great influence over their usually “brainwashed” gathering of believers. The priests claim to be able to intercede [negotiate] with the god to obtain special benefits for individual believers. Such claims enable priests to accumulate great fortunes for themselves [large homes; Mercedes car; foreign travel]. Some may go on to steal church money. Others molest young boys or girls, or the wives of believers [example: Mathew Pieris].
Religions are given state support. As a result, they operate independent of national laws.

“Religions are made up of cults [a god or group of gods”
        Are we sure?
One of the four most followed faiths has no god. It has made a cult of the founder though. Jainism is godless.
East Asian religions are not based on gods, although the mythologies have gods of sorts, but not central to the faith.
There are plenty of godless religions in the world I think.

Maestro. Thanks excellency. At last count there were supposedly over 4000 religions in the world. CT readers may benefit were we to stick to the four major religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism. Buddhism is a philosophy, as everyone knows.

Unfortunately, this is the trend in Sri Lanka today. If they are jokingly asked to taste “poop”, they will do without question. Their psychology is questionable. We have more of ” sinhala_man” in that country than any kind of brain users. I was confused by reading his comments again and again- which repeatedly expose “private details of someone” rather than focusing on the article contents.

They no longer care much about the impact of being caught up in myths. Just imagine how over 6.9 million (15 million is the island nation’s total electorate of 22 million) voted for idiots like “that Ali Sabri MP” who they believe is a criminalized importer.

That bitch’s son Arundhi or such MPs should be hanged to send the message that people should respect law and order. I am not against “public executions” now, knowing the levels of public crime promoted from behind “parliamentary privilege”.

South Asia, Africa and Latin America are devastated by their psyche. Although some small sections are progressive, the majority of those countries cannot progress beyond myths, witchcraft, astrology or other unseen forces.

Reasoning behind people to go back to the past is “examples set by medamulana myth-controlled men”.

Religion and Religious preaching are a business in Sri Lanka. For example, take Buddhism – all the pansal are business establishments. Even the most senior Buddhist Priests are politicians and are involved in businesses such as selling cars and other items. Similarly, most of the Hindu temples are in the business of making money which flows into the pockets of those who manage those temples. Similarly Mosques and Churches. All these are money-making machines.

The first thing that has to be established is one single body that does a detailed study and starts educating the masses on what each religion teaches as truth, not the pomp and pageantry that is being practiced today.

To achieve this end, the single body can formulate the teachings of each religion as its suppose to be and then make a curriculum for schools as a subject – Religious Studies. This subject has to be taught from Grade 3 to University graduation classes. Only then down the line, we can get religious matters in order in Sri Lanka.

I honestly don’t see the need for the hullabaloo over this pastor.
Our Buddhist monks and the racist sinhala politicians have been at this game as long as I remember.
I am not defending the prosperity preaching pastor, but he doesn’t need the attention when we have much more pressing and real issues at hand.
This is a non issue as far as I am concerned. His words don’t change anything.
The Buddha says actions is what matter.
These are diversionary tactics used by people desperate to mislead the public, as usual people are falling for the trick.
The average Sri Lankan is a idiot who never learns from the mistakes we have been making over and over in our pathetic history.
We continue to use our emotions instead of our brain to decide on everything. Unless that issue is fixed there is no future for us.

These are just “news plants” of some evil politicians. Mahinda Rajapaksa may be the creator of the issue. If there is any high crime elevated in this country, MAHINDA RAJAPAKSHES and his henchmen should be made accoutable for that. basta. People are made enteral stupid people in this country filled with criminals.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLms_STXeIU
      .
HT, you are 100% correct about the so called Sinhala Buddhist monks (better to say human beasts hiding behind “red robes” for various hidden reasons).

However, people are easily misled. The same was the case with the “Nagaya carrying false relics”: the gate of the soldiers of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara corrected me that more than millions of worshipers flocked to the temple after the exposure of the foolish monk (lick the king’s ass). In the said evening, a loud noise was heard from the side of the river…etc.
That is why rebuilding the nation through truth instead of falsehood is the need of the age.

He knows how stupid our population is and plays his cards accordingly.

We really lack people of substance who can change the course of our future.

      Offensive utterances provoke reaction.
There are many who will profit from them.

Ever since the “Humans” appeared on this “Planet”, there have been so many “FORCES” that took over the task of “TRAUMATISING” and connected with that state to build a “TOXIC CULTURE” to take away the “FREEDOM” of the very base of the “SOCIETY”. These “FORCES” took different shapes and organizations popularly called “Tribal Leaders”; “Rulers”; “Religious Leaders”; “Civil Societies” (of varying types, such as Human Rights; Women’s Rights; etc) One of the hardest tasks, as of today is for the “Humans” to “Disassemble” these agonizing array of “Misconceptions”; “Prejudices”; “Blind Spots”; and “Health KIlling Fictions” that are well “Protected” in the name of the “Worl Order” and continued with the ” Nurturing Support” of “Political/Religious/Social” Leaderships and “Institutions”. Added to this, “Toxic Culture”, we see a “TURF WAR” taking place among the very “Institutionalized” forces competing to win over the “Human” domain for nothing but “Self Interests” and continue even unto “Self Destruction”.

This, present-day “Jerome” is one among many such well “Scripted” dramas staged to further “Traumatize” the people and empower the “Self Interests” and accelerate their “Survival Modes”.

In another comment, made in response to an article in CT, on this “Jerome Drama”, I have directed the attention of the readers to seek information on the Google search of “Gold Mafia” by Al Jazeera and the Wikipedia account of the “BOSS”- Uebert Angel of “Jerome Fernand” of “Miracle Dome”.

  • 6
    0

Part II: Recently another similar “Turf War” came into the stage. In the “First” series of it, a person by the name,”Fernandes” appeared on Social Media (Talk with Chamuditha) and made stunning revelations connected with the “Dalada Maliga” (Temple of the Tooth). He “REVEALED” how he (this Fernandez) took part in “Counting”; “Bundling” and “Stacking” a huge sum of money, ( in my memory it was around Two Million) collected at the “Dalada Maligawa” on the instructions of the “Chief Administrator” – “Diyawadana Nileme”. He also said he accompanied the “Diywadane Nileme” (Dela Bandara) in a vehicle to “Temple Trees” (the official residence of the then President Mahinda Rajapakse) and delivered all those “Sacks” of money but he (Fernandez) opted to remain in the vehicle.

This man “Fernandez” “Challenged” anyone to take legal action against him and he vouched to stand by what he revealed because he is in possession of all the “Documents”. It is now more than two months, I have not yet heard of anyone, especially the “Diyawadane Nileme” and or the “Chief Priests” leave alone “Legal Action” but even a “Public Statement” being made on the facts revealed.

Isn’t this much more “Traumatising” than this “Jerome Fernando” saga? Why are “Buddhagama” congregations “Silent” up to now? Something “Funny” and “Fishy”. OR the “Toxic” “Buddhagama” devotees “Live With It”?

  • 7
    0

Part III: A much more “Traumatising” and a “Toxic” narrative. There is a book out in Book Shops sold for Rs. 1200.00 This book is written by no lesser person than a Senior Lecturer of Kelaniya University and his name is Tharanga Dharanee. This book gives a “Ball by Ball” commentary on the “Shady Deals” (mostly the sale of land belonging to Dalada Maligawa- Temple of the Tooth). The lands have been “Transferred” to three Real Estate Companys for sale. The book is titled “FOXY DEVOTEE”. (KAPATY UPASAKA)

This writer too says he is ready to face any challenge and testify to the truthfulness of all the facts stated therein. Where are the “Buddhagama” congregations? Aren’t they “Silenced” by injecting “Toxin” of the fake teachings (preached by the Maha Nayaks and their subordinates and “Intellectual” Dayakayas)?

Where are the “Law Enforcement Agencies” to initiate investigations into these very serious “Financial Frauds and Corruption” that have been well “Recorded” and “Authenticated” but who have been very “Quick” and “Active” to arrest Sepal Amarasinghe and obtain an “Arrest Warrant” on “Jerome Fernando”? The “SILENCE” is nothing but due to the “TRAUMATISING” and “INTOXICATION” of these “Humans” of foolhardy followers.

Please DO NOT interpret my comments as in any way to DEFEND “Jerome Fernando”. He is another “CROOK” in the “BIG GAME”. How are we to “FREE” from this “TRAUMA” and “TOXIN”, I will come back later.

Ajith: Good question. (1) What is Dhamma? My understanding of “Dhamma” is NATURE and further to say it is “REALITY”. Please note the term “Reality” is not equal to “TRUTH”. (2) “Where is it in the world it exists”? It is EVERYWHERE seen and sometimes “Unseen”. A simple example: Look at your own “Mind and Body”. Your “Senses” and how those organs “Manifest” within your “Body Mechanism”. Take a look at your “Body Mass”. How is it made: Science has discovered that it is made of “92 Trillion Cells” and each of those “Cells” is a “Living Being” with an assigned function. So our entire “Body” is a “Community” and not a “Single Person” as thought and understood earlier. Look at your “Environment”. It “Manifests” on its own “Mechanism”. The common “Law” or “Mechanism” : SURVIVAL and ADOPTABILITY.

      • 1
        0

Yes, there are number of different understanding or explanations of Dhamma which is same as Dharma (in Tamil Tharmam) all of which highlights that it was a way of life, a code of conduct and a set of principles to be adopted and practiced by the people at large and Buddha’s teachings also highlight that principles. Your science explanation is acceptable.

Rehan, I noticed this ending to your article. Well, the topic sentence in the final paragraph:
      .
“A religious person should know that religion is dead now, but Dhamma remains as it is.”
      .
I had imagined you to be almost obsessed with religion, perhaps a Roman Catholic Christian, but how true your sentence is! Ajith has asked where the Dhamma exists. It is in our minds, and ought to make an important contribution to our thinking, and therefore to our actions.
      .
As such it cannot be “preserved.” The person who says it is in our hearts doesn’t know biology, although he probably means it in a figurative sense. Figurative and symbolic meanings can be dangerous when so many say that religion exists in a sociological sense. Yes, think about it, very dangerous.
      .
I say I’m an agnostic because of all the magic that gets brought in; perhaps you mean the same when you say that religion is dead.

      • 3
        3

Oh dear! I see that the German citizen has got an answer in before me, Ajith. To me it seems that the guy certainly doesn’t understand the Dhamma. How can he, when he hates every monk who has, at least theoretically, decide to devote himself to studying the Dhamma and meditate upon it?
        .
The existence of horrors like Gnanansara, and that fellow from a place near Batticaloa doesn’t mean every monk is bad. And LM, it has now got revealed has black to grey hatred in this order: the JVP, the NPP, the Sinhalese, all brown Lankans. The pretence to love poor Sinhalese, the NPP, and Tamil speakers was just to blacken those whom I have placed before that.
        .
He loves only whites and the fraudulent President – Ranil, and his dead mother, not his male parent. What aberrations!

RBH59, If Jerome heard God’s voice and some others did not, how can you hold a debate. If all heard, then can debate on the topics heard. Adam was created by God and hence talked and walked with God. Gen.3,16 says “The Lord God commanded man”

It is “HUMAN NATURE” (probably similar to animal instinct) to “QUESTION”. As time went by, questions arose: (1) Who am I? (2) Why I am? (3) Where I am after here?

Naturally, various persons with “Sharpened” wisdom started finding answers to the above questions. I am of the opinion, that the “Answers” these “Wise” men found became “RELIGION”. That was centuries back.

In modern-day, those “Answers” (Religious Teachings) have been subjected to “Interpretations”, mostly to suit the “Personal Benefit” and “Self Glory”. This is how “Traumatising” and “Intoxication” arose and the people have been “Congregated” and held in “Custody”.

Today, we are in another inquiry viz. How to get OUT of this “BONDAGE” – the “Prison”?

There is a WAY. (1) Make an irrevocable decision to be “FREE” and (2) WAKE UP TO: what is real and authentic in an around us and what isn’t; who we are and who we are not; what our bodies are expressing and what our minds are suppressing; our wounds and our gifts; what we have believed and what we actually value; what we no longer tolerate and what we can now accept; up to the myths that blind us and the interconnections that define us; past as it has been, the present as it is, and the future as it may be and most especially to the gap between what our essence calls and what “normal” has demanded us.
