Contrary to arguments by the UPFA MPs and their supporters, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has publicly admitted that Parliament cannot be dissolved before four and a half years under the provisions of the 19th Amendment.
In an interview with BBC Sandeshaya in February, this year, Rajapaksa said Parliament could not be dissolved before four and a half years under the latest constitutional amendment. Rajapaksa spoke to BBC Sandeshaya at the conclusion of the last Local Government election, in which his party, the SLPP, pulled off a stunning victory.
Rajapaksa said all parties in Parliament should come together in demanding a Parliamentary election and seek a fresh mandate from the public. Rajapaksa has also admitted that an early dissolution of Parliamentary required a resolution by a two thirds majority.
Rajapaksa’s views on the 19th Amendment today demonstrate a sharp shift in his opinion on the dissolution of Parliament and holding a snap election. Rajapaksa and his group now fiercely argue that the President is empowered to dissolve Parliament and hold snap elections at will, despite strong constitutional barriers imposed by the 19th Amendment.

Statements made by MR then shows that he is only interested in a general election. The correct action has now been taken in invoking the jurisdiction of the court to determine constitutionality of the dissolution. I have commented before that unconstitutional action taken in response to a frenzy and paranoia is not acceptable. In view of the alleged “butterfly” action to the extent of plotting an assassination it is the immature who gets into a heightened state, close access to public roads etc. What is essentially done is to deny RW the premiership as long as MY3 is the President even if the country goes to the dogs and a total standstill takes place and MY3 will not change his position. It is in furtherance of this action that the Parliament is dissolved, in the anticipation that the UNP will not win a general election, discounting that there can be a possibility of the UNP winning. There are points of view expressed in the Indian media that the UNP is prepared to field a different person as the premier. Perhaps that is one way to end the deadlock.

Well, Rajapaksa said that thinking unelected UNP parliament was going to follow the constitution, and give the SLPP control of the house after their stunning victory in Feb of this year. As UNP illegally failed to honor the constitution, the President then had every right to dissolve parliament.

It was believed all these time by all that the parliament cannot be dissolved. But Ranil changed his mind and decided to seat Old King as PM. This created constitutional problems. So Old Royals side decided to dissolve the parliament. Now Old Royals are asking Ranil to defeat the Budget so that they both can go to election. Ranil is in a hurry to seat Old King before March 2019, so he could launch a big battle in Geneva.
If TNA obtain a court order to reverse New Kings order to dissolve parliament, UNP will defeat the Vote on Account to defeat the Court and TNA. Everybody saw last Sunday how Ranil turned around the IC’s support to defeat them.
Anyway it is not bad to teach a lesson to Sampanthar for believing, first New King and then, changing loyalty to Ranil and believing Ranil to bring in a Secret Solution.
Sumanthiran said if Secret Solution is not coming he would leave politics. Now he is saying that no way a Secret Solution can be implemented. Then why is he wasting time in Diyawanna Lake Building?

What a contradiction. MR would have been aware about Article 36(1) where the Speaker could assume as President if the Chief Justice in his opinion appoints him as President. There is a clause ‘for any other reasons’ which could be interpreted as ‘the President is unable to perform his duties on account of the deplorable conduct of the MPs in Parliament.’ He would have shivered on hearing this interpretation. Secondly, what happens if the Western democratic countries and India decide to issue VISA to Mahinda and his supporters and also about the freezing of his assets in foreign countries. I think these are two items which made Mahinda to do a U-turn. Knowing that his appointment is illegal, he would have felt it a disgrace.

The only one good thing to happen was shelter to the people by Sajith , now that is too gone back (very regretfully ) to the wrong hands and it is finish ,it would have been better for MR to have handed it over to someone else .
Racial rioting no change ,during RW s , it went from bad to worse . drug menace , murder ,robbery ,abduction of young girls and rape became a everyday issue .
