Of Erdogan, Mahinda & Gota Or The Dance Of The Vidāyaka Janadhipathi

By Shyamon Jayasinghe

Shyamon Jayasinghe

“It is from weakness that people reach for dictators and concentrated government power. Only the strong can be free. And only the productive can be strong.”

We have been talking about Turkey’s Erdogan who recently won electoral support to be the country’s first Executive President. At the elections, Turkey began digging its grave. The country abandoned the Parliamentary system according to which decision-making is participatory and collaborative. Under the Parliamentary system there is a Prime Minister but the latter is subject to Parliamentary support. By this simple mechanism the Prime Minister is someone watched. Since Parliament is supreme, the law is supreme and every power holder has to perform within a country’s legal framework.

And so, we see Erdogan at the master game. The most crucial portfolio is that of finance. Our own Mahinda Rajapaksa awarded that role to himself whereas Erdogan has shown himself to be rather backward. He has entrusted the job to his trusted Son-in-law. After all, a good son-in-law is more trustworthy than anybody else; and if he has some knowledge of finance, unlike Mahinda who didn’t have a clue, he is up in the game as then he has less third parties to depend on. The job could be handled in style and sophistication. The subject of defence along with those of the army, navy, airforce and police is already with Erdogan. Our own Mahinda did have defense under him but he thought it practical to let someone trustworthy handle the nuts and bolts and work the machine of ultimate power. Mahinda gave it to brother Gota who had left the Forces and settled down in the US for many years. Gotabaya Rajapaksa smilingly returned to the island when brother Mahinda became President; yet Gota was keen to retain US citizenship -just in case. He still clings onto that- just in case. His patriotism is thus, just in case.

Mahinda did another smart thing. He appointed the other brother Basil as Minister in charge of Economic Development. This gave our own dear leader another great key to interfere with every government agency. In this way, the Rajapaksa family held about 80 per cent of Sri Lanka’s budget. Mahinda can now go to town! He wouldn’t give a damn. Dissentients beware as Brother Gota will do the job. With brother Mahinda’s blessings, Gota was veritably our own home-made Hiltler. The Venerable  Anunayaka of Asgiriya has aksed only for a return of what was there. Why blame him? Brother Chamal was there to keep the house under control. Wimal was hired to shout. The two sons can dance at the periphery. If the family be in charge what’s wrong with sonna boy Namal running around with girls and racing cars?

The Central Bank? Cabraal can be trusted for money manipulations and issuing creative growth rates. Old Mohan is hundred per cent as we saw how it was reported that he had thrown the great temptation into the hands of the newly appointed yahapalanaya government: “Sir, I will give the verdict you want!” Our Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe,  was silly not to take that gift. Ranil has always been retrograde.

What a marvellous prospect!

Ever since I heard Xi Jinping in China declare himself “President for Life,” I have wondered why our beloved Mahinda did not do such a thing in the 18th Amendment. Xi Jing Ping now carries out different duties under separate titles. For example, he meets foreign dignitaries and receives ambassadors in his capacity as President; issues military directives as Chairman of the Central Military Commission; and upholds party rule through the office of General Secretary.

In like manner is Kim Jong-Un set. The latter is officially styled the “Supreme Leader of North Korea.’ He has got the media controlled by him to call him “Our Dear Leader.” Kim is also the Leader of the North Korean Workers Pary since 2012. His multifariously powerful role has no deadline, which means he will also be “for life.” Small wonder he keeps clapping. How stupid for Donmald Trump to follow that!

In comparison with the last two persons, Mahinda was absolutely backward, which means he was absolutely democratic. Or was Mahinda cocksure of getting back and then thinking about that grand idea of Xi Jinping? Sumanadasa should be shot-just as Lasantha Wickrematunge had been or, as a matter of fact, Thajudeen had been.

Surely, our dear leader would not go that cruel. Wasn’t he once upon a time a street fighter for Human Rights? Didn’ he go to the UN to protest when he was an ordinary Member of Parlaiment?

Sri Lanka is still a democracy that does not need a Xi Jinping or Kim Jong-Un. The country needs a Stateman like Lee Kuan Yew who can unite every race and religion to be one country. Unfortunately since 1956 it is a case of divide and rule using race, religion, caste, class and whatever else that suits them to come into power and hang on to power.

Steve, Really? Lee Kuan Yew ! How much democracy did Singapore have under him? How autocratic was he to to keep the peace? What happened to the opposition parties? Read about that before yapping Lee Kuan, Lee Kuan. Do you want canning as a punishment for 42 crimes, do you want to bankrupt the opposition and the opposition Journalists, do you want a leader who calls Islamists venomous (that is what your Lee said according to wikileaks), be careful what you wish for Steve, you just might get it!

I have lived in Singapore for a long time and still travel there a lot on business. Sri Lanka will be better off with a Statesman like Lee Kuan Yew than all the leaders since 1956 put together. Of course a “frog in the well” like you cannot see much. So I do pity you.

By the way the present President of Singapore is a Muslim – that is true democracy thanks to Lee Kuan Yew.

You will be disappointed to hear that Gotabhaya’s popularity has increased after Ven.Upali’s sermon and the responses from PM and President.
    —————————————————
“Cabraal can be trusted for money manipulations and issuing creative growth rates.”
PM trusted Arjun Mahendran and we saw what happened. PM told he will take the responsibility for Arjun Mahendran but now he says he has no contacts with Mahendran. What a leader we have?
World Bank and Asian Development Bank accepted the growth rates given by CB. If they had doubts, they would not have accepted. If you have doubts, that is your problem.

Gota is popular among the uneducated and those that cannot make a decent living without political help.

Arjun Mahendran worked within the same SOP created by Cabral for the Rajas to loot the system. Did not get the time or opportunity to change it as MR believed that his astrologer was right and winning the election.
His son-in-law being smart enough to see the loop holes worked withing the existing laws and took CB to the cleaners.
Now govt is spending bucket loads for two years fishing. LOL

Son in Law was smart enough to loot and share the loot, given as silencing bribes, with at least 120 MPs of our Parliament hypocritically sworn in to serve and safeguard our citizens and mother country – the lieing bas***ds. But he is also smart enough to get himself accommodation at Welikada, albeit in the Prison Hospital, I suppose until people forget the scam and RW springs out his principal gang member.

          thrishu:
I understand your pain but you cannot blame anyone for making money as long as they are not in violation of the laws.
          “silencing bribes”
If you can prove that these were bribes then you have a case if not its just hot air. If you are right and 120 MP’s got donations then this is not a bribe as I presume over 90% of them had no influence over CB. This actually makes it easy to prove that Mahendrans Son-In-Law was a very generous person.
BTW he did not get himself accommodation at Welikada but the kangaroo court did while preventing law enforcement from even touching the accused thief with a laundry list; Mig/Avant/Memorial etc.

“Of course, it is all done in the name of protecting the American people. That is the standard excuse that has been used since the earliest empires. We’re only trying to make sure you’re safe, they claim. Well, one should remember that there were no safer streets than Moscow under Stalin or Berlin under Hitler – unless, of course, it was the government that wanted to do you harm.

Given a choice between government security and freedom with risks, always choose freedom. Criminals, including terrorists, don’t have much power, but government possesses crushing power. Of course, we Americans are conditioned to view our government as friendly and protective, but that is a mistake.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn made an interesting point in his Gulag Archipelago. He said the reason so few Russians resisted when the secret police came to get them was because they were innocent. They had done nothing wrong, they were loyal, and they expected their government to realize that their arrest was a mistake. The government didn’t, of course, because they were victims of a dictator’s paranoia.” — American freedom – Charley Reese

      Shymon
Thank you very much for an excellant analysis of Mahinda Family rule and their allies for running a dictaorial family kingdom between 2006-2015. I think you have missed the role of few others, partcularly former attorney genral, Chief Justice Mohan Peries who destroyed the image of the justice system completely.

Thank you Shyamon for writing this. We should guard against SL ever allowing this kind of strong arm leaders coming in to power, especially if they are Buddhists. Fully agree with your sentiment here. Keep occupied usefully in your remaining days mate, Cheers.

Erdogan has decreed that ‘Theory of Evolution’ must not be taught in schools, Muslims need not practice birth-control – ‘Must NOT’ will be added in due course. He created lots of jobs by sacking all suspected to be non-supporters. Memories of the creator of secular Turkey, Kemal Ataturk is being taken off the minds of Turks. Erdogan has other abilities – one of which is to engineer a coup. An ‘Erdler’ is being created.

Let us not forget Aung San Suu Kyi. To her ‘human rights’ means restoring her privileges only. She took the world for a ride. The Burmese Junta is the ‘Aungler’.
    .
Somehow we have been conditioned to treat ‘mega-corruption’ as a sign of good governance. Creation of a ‘Gotler’ as necessary and sufficient.

Yo K. Pillai….. You have been a mind controlled freak who speaks for the ZIONIST imposed educational garbages and the Zionist imposed Pseudo science as the real science which is anything but the ones you have been indoctrinated with. Who brought in the “EVOLUTION” idea??? Its the FREEMASON Darwin. He could not prove anything. Until now its not been proven. Its all guess work and the success of its acceptance has to credited to the imposition made by the GLOBAL BRITISH colonialism that paved the way for the MODERN EDUCATIONAL system that has all these elements of lies being taught as the truth. Its MASS MIND CONTROL social engineering program created by the JEWISH CRIMINALS who are controlling the world power from the WEST. So, its very rational to call a spade a spade… Erdogan is much smarter than all the dumb scientists who are nothing but the paid servants of the zionist system.

I have a feeling that by mid 2019 people will openly show their displeasure over same stale Sri Lankan politics.
I would like to hear some new economic strategies.
Mahinda says he will continue his same old Mahinda Chinthanaya. Haven’t we already seen it since 2005? Can’t he see anything beyond concrete, I mean, anything beyond infrastructure? Something to do with humans.
What happened to Gotabhaya’s Shangri-la evening lecture on economy I don’t know. It was rejected the following morning, I guess.
For over 70 years, farmers lived on subsidy. They still do. At the next election, restoring farmers’ subsidy will be a number one pledge. For over how many years I don’t know a large number of people live on Samurdhi. Every politician says his mission is to develop the country and uplift the lives and livelihood of people. Haven’t they tried this same mission over 70 years?
Now Ranil says Sri Lanka will reach the status of a developed country by 2050. That means in another 32 years time i.e. 102 years after gaining independence. No problem. People enjoy political jokes but we lost one harbour already. The second airport which was built on Chinese loans is on the verge of losing to India. I guess next will be selling Trinco Harbour to America.
As Ranil predicted, yeah, by 2050 Sri Lanka will be a developed country divided into three “Ratas”; Chinky, Dosa, Yankee.
Last year the President promised that he would not allow any airport or harbour to be sold again. Now he is silent. He remembers everybody else’s promises except his.
Needless to say people are fed up already.
Don’t we have any alternative to this system? We need a new man on the block or at least a new vision.

    • 4
      2

Well said Steve. There is no feasible democratic alternative to our present economic cum political system. It may have its weaknesses but democracy nor any other political system is perfect. We need to preserve our freedom although economic development is important. But the choices for development must be made by the people in a free society even if it doesn’t mean fast development. There are no perfect economic or political systems. Freedom is all important and cannot be sacrificed for faster development.

Who is your man? Gotabhaya? No way. He can’t win the election.
In fact, there is no demand for him (Hitler) anymore. A garroter has stepped forward already.

Yes Champa Gotabhaya, Wimale cannot win this time, but if Gotabhaya wins 2020, Wimale have a sure shot 2025 or 2030, and he is young and has time. I would support Wimale but right now he cannot win but Gotabhaya can, who is the garroter? MS?
BTW ask your man to smile ad-noseum if he wants to be the president at some point, people don’t like grumpies.

Who said Wimal will contest in 2020? I never said that. How could I? I don’t even know. He is not selfishly ambitious. He puts the country before self. I can’t agree to what you said. Wimal will never support Gotabhaya to have a place in 2025. Supporting or not supporting Gotabhaya will be based on his principles, I believe.
The smile comes naturally to anybody and it depends on the personality too. Wimal and Gotabhaya are two opposite characters. If Wimal always smiles like your man Gotabhaya, he will look like a clown and nobody will take him serious. An unsmiling serious face is what goes with Wimal. But he has a nice smile. Remember Thamil Chelvam and his smile? People called him the smiling monster. How about that?

Good thought Champa. You said…”Don’t we have any alternative to this system?”…….. Well yes we have. But, first thing first. The Sinhala mindset must be CURED from the disease of the SUPREMACIST IDEOLOGY. The Zionist British, when they were about to leave, they created a set of CRIMINAL MINDED individuals and families to rule on behalf of them, to treat the subjects as animals waiting to be slaughtered on the altar of the FAKE democratic system they dumped on us. The criminal minded individuals are the ones who’re ruling us now….The GOVIGAMA MAFIA Ruling Elites. Did you draw the line between Mahinda’s rule and Sirisena/Ranil rule and see a parallel in between them??? a common trait between all of them???? They always go against their promises. They are corrupt to the core. They protect each other. The Media is finding a National Enemy in a Muslim, a Tamil and anybody else but these GOVIGAMA MAFIA members who have done everything a super criminal does……Yet, the Lankadeepa, Divaina, TNL, Swarnawahini, Hiru, Mawbima, Rivira, Ada etc., will publish materials vindicating the Muslims and Tamils to create the Negative impact in the minds of the SINHALAS…… Do you see the picture now????? If you don’t……again, you have to ask the same question you have asked 1 million times…..”Don’t we have any alternative to this system?”………

As always brilliant, spot on,cynical and succinct. In nutshell the sad story of Lanka.MR is nothing but a mixture of Xi, Kim, Erdogan, Putin, Chavez and Mugabe. Unfortunately we are seeing more more of this pathogens world wide. Except for Xi ( as a country China did progress to a certain degree) the rest only cared for their own in keeping the power and wealth. They were all gifted with the fake persona to create charisma among the followers who are turned into pavlov,s models in a lab.( dog which responds to a bell for its supper) The tragedy is Lanka was the least expected in the list. Then again MR is miles ahead from the rest in mastering this art. On a given day MR can take any one of them for a ride or all of them together, which he has done in the past. The international organizations, UN,media, world leaders, neighbors….etc can vouch for this.

This is a dispicable attempt to impose someone’s personal views on political development in another country where citizens have made a critical, fully democratic decision about their future.

The writer seems to, in typically rude fashion, ignore the fact that the incumbent President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the presidential election of June 25 with an “absolute majority” of valid votes. Mr Erdogan’s AK Partypolled 42.5 per cent and was boosted by its nationalist allies MHP took 11.1 per cent.

There is no doubt that the Turkish people have given Me Erdogan the job of carrying out the presidential and executive posts simultaneously. That is their wish and they have placed their trust on Mr E.

So how does the opinion of someone at a lose end on Turkish developments matter? Simply because he seems to be unable to bear the trend against US imperialism in Russia, China, Nicaragua and other places – as per his slave master Ranil W. – this writer seems to caste aspersions on similar developments in Sri Lanka.

Whether he and people like him – who are a dying breed – like it or not, there are clear signs that people in Sri Lanka are also following the same path. Good luck to them and can’t wait for the election to be held.

Like to remind the writer that democracy is ‘majority opinion’ and Sri Lankan minority groups including religious minorities should learn (in their old age at least) to keep out of other people’s democratic right.

    • 4
      2

This is what even the Nazis said democracy is majority opinion, so we committed genocide on a large scale as that was the majority opinion. Now the Sinhalese say this. democracy is Sinhalese Buddhist Fascist opinion and this is the only opinion that matters. This is why they committed genocide on the island’s Tamil and will continue to do so until they vanish. Then it will be the Tamil Muslims and lastly the Christian Sinhalese. Democracy is what the majority want but with lots of safeguards for racial, ethnic, linguistic , sexual and religious minorities, so that they have adequate representation and safeguards and no one will be able to marginalise them or commit genocide ethnic cleansing pogroms and war crimes on them. In proper democratic countries minorities are given more representation than the percentage of their population but in Sri Lanka the Sinhalese soon after independence saw to it that their percentage of representation far exceeded their population and used this to marginalise the island’s Tamil population who at the time of independence were around 26%-28% . Within 60 years of independence they have used this majority to reduced the percentage to 16% ,by state sponsored pogroms genocide, large scale ethnic cleansing, war crimes and making over a million Tamils stateless, after living in the island for over 8 generation. This is the only thing this country has done well in the name and opinion of a brainwashed, uneducated majority that is fed with Mahawamsa fairy tales by opportunistic Sinhalese Nazis , many of whom had a recent Tamil ancestry like Bandaranaike ( Mr & Mrs) Jayawardene and many more.

“Like to remind the writer that democracy is ‘majority opinion’ and Sri Lankan minority groups including religious minorities should learn (in their old age at least) to keep out of other people’s democratic right.”
Majority does not mean Sinhala majority. Srilanka is a land owned by Sinhala, Muslim Srilankan and Indian origin Tamils . Srilankans have a right to reject those American citizens. Majority opinion is very clear in 2015 you have to respect people’s verdict and constituion. Ranil W is a Srilankan citizen, not an American citizen. If you are really against America, Can you ask your Gota & Basil to give up their American citizenship.

Yes Mugabe was elected year after year by means of SHAM elections to rule the country until he him self decided not to do so. But after years of staging these elections , when he was fired the whole nation went into days of celebration ( as though it was independence ) to see him off??? Lots of us do not even have a teacher, doctor , lawyer or an accountant for life a long. But people want us to believe that we can have a politician to decide the future of ours as well generations to come. That is why sensible countries have limitations in term. We are already seeing the disaster in the judicial system where countries do elect supreme court Judges for life term. Imagine a person with limited mental/physical and cognitive faculties due to their advanced age , who have already given up on self driving their own vehicle is some or another deemed capable enough to pronounce a sentence of life and death???

Guys instead of the usual bickering I propose a contest. Knowing that there are many political pundits among readers it will be an interesting venture and who knows may turn to be an eye opener. The name of the game is called ” Art of Ruling” ( in Lanka)and I request you all to propose only one leader for the top spot. Please keep in mind the honorary members of this esteemed club are Putin, Mugabe, Xi,Chavez ,Kim…..etc.Who will be your Lankan Pick???.Please do not propose names like Wimal who is not worth to get into any list. The rating should consider various factors as in sports. Including opponent, the political climate, impact, spining, adversity, come back kid, longevity, control over others, damage control, diversion, sham, international dealings, out smarting…. etc…etc All it takes to be a leader in Lanka. I have two picks which are JR and MR.Though it is a Dead heat race, for me MR is still the winner, given that he is not fully done yet with the country. Please have a go.

Chiv, Re “Art of Ruling” we propose that if MS becomes like Putin, there is hope for Lankan future. Of course it must be the real Putin who sings with the Russian Olympic team, standing merged with hockey team, the Russian National Anthem which is a hymn acknowledging God of a holy nation. This, in the midst of a strong legacy of a failed communist state created through revolution of massive mind control of worker masses, killing the ruling Tsars in the process, is the hallmark of a true national leader. Personal weakness of a failed marriage seems erased. The Russian Federation out of the fall of the USSR still has ambitions of annexing a former member out of insecurity, which our island expresses as Trade Pacts with neighbors and totally opposed by TU. Nevertheless, national leaders must lead in progress for nation, not in religious fascism for personal gain of money and power. Our leader though slowly is awakening to issues like drugs rooted against all.

I like to respond to T Devendra (TD).
1.Erdogan’s elections were fought under emergency with the government controlling the whole media and election process. Five opposition candidates had to campaign from jail. So much for Devendra’s “citizens have made a critical, fully democratic decision about their future.” And so much for Erdogan’s percentages. TD must study in depth before he writes rubbish like this.
2.TD is also fantasizing that Sri Lankans are going to follow the Erdogan path by surrendering their freedom to another idiot in the Rajapakse family. The family has already ruined the country submerging it with Chinese loan debt, robbing the public purse, murdering dissenters and building reckless infrastructures like flightless International Airports and shipless harbors. Rajapakses are “pathogens,” as described by another writer in the comments above.

“yet Gota was keen to retain US citizenship -just in case. He still clings onto that- just in case. His patriotism is thus, just in case”

Well he served in the military and did his job to our country. As a result he was badly injured too. Concerning his patriotism, that’s enough. Also he didn’t betray our country like the other American citizen fonseka did by making false allegations like our military shot the surrendering ltte carders……Who are you to question his patriotism ? Who cares he is an American citizen or not ? Ranil is a “Sri Lankan” citizen and we know what he has done to this country. I’ll take any Amrerican citizen who is patriotic and who is willing to sacrifice his/her life for this country over Ranil or you any day.

“Well he served in the military and did his job to our country. “

      Did he?
You mean burying bodies in Matale, Mannar, ……………. dumping in Kalyani river, setting, tyre pyres, …………………………… and ran away to USA in 1992.

If lying, covering up mass killing, murder, threatening, white vanning, promise to hang his associate war criminal, stealing ………………… are not treachery then what is?

What was the deal between Gota and homeland security? How did he and Fonseka who were heavily involved in Search and destroy (6 men) team between 1987 and 1990 manage to obtain visa to live in the USA. What was USA’s involvement during the dark days? For a job well done both war criminals were rewarded with US visas.

Please note there was nothing to betray since USA, India and some other countries were closely involved with Sri Lankan state during all wars since 1987 to 2009.

      • 1
        2

“You mean burying bodies in Matale, Mannar”

How do you know he did all these things? Are you an eye witness ? BTW UNP government was accused of similar crimes. Do you think Gota controlled the UNP government ? Be specific and mention names of the individuals murdered by Gota. Atleast one name? Ranting doesn’t work.

“If lying, covering up mass killing, murder, threatening, white vanning, promise to hang his associate war criminal, stealing ………………… are not treachery then what is?”

Lying is what Tamils and their politicians do all the time. Could there be a bigger lie than the lie of Tamil homeland in north and east ?……White vanning happened in 80s too. Not a new thing. For stealing let the courts decide that. “promise to hang his associate war criminal ?” LOL promising ? Who promised to whom ?

“Please note there was nothing to betray since USA, India and some other countries were closely involved with Sri Lankan state during all wars since 1987 to 2009.”

Please note that it was India who armed/trained and came to the rescue of LTTE. They were cuddling with the LTTE until Rajiv Ghandi was murdered by one their pet tigers………..US never ever helped us to defeat LTTE. Providing VISAs to couple of military personal doesn’t count as help. They didn’t provide us a single weapon during the last war neither did India nor any west European nation. We had to ask from china for military aide. It’s true that west kept quiet during the previous war mostly due their internal terrorist problems. London attack, Paris attack etc. It would be hypocritical for them to tell SL to stop killing terrorists while they are doing the exact same thing in the Mideast and elsewhere. But that doesn’t mean they helped Sri Lanka. Not a bit. They passed the Geneva resolution to punish the SL government.

Pissu Hutan calls Gota a patriot. Yes, the man who built his father’s memorial with taxpayer money and not his family money must be a patriot. The man who ran a hit squad and took journalists away in white vans must be a patriot. The man who is facing a charge of massive corruption over the purchase of MIGs must be a patriot. So many patriotic things this SOB did. Now he wants to get to power to cover up the shit of his family and of himself. He must be a patriot.

T Devendra is obviously a groveling Rajapakse gas -emitter. Must be still eating the remnants of the royal family dinners and emitting gas after watalappan. He has no idea of democracy when he says it is majority rule. Remember Dayan Jayatilleka saying something like that about the majority of the majority. Dayan is now quiet and does not crticise Ranil because he has got a job that even Mahinda could not give him. Devendra must be also waiting for a job. I am informed he is nearly ninety and cannot wait much more.

Shyamon Jayasinghe has a wonderfully sharp sword that can dissect so acutely and beautifully. He should lend it to Sirisena.
Great style Shyamon! Please write more and more.

Are you a brother of the famous one?

Then we are not surprised that you are impressed by the ‘sharp sword’ of the old guy! It all depends on what you know.

Oh the poor Shyamon boy is reading the positive comments and pleasing himself, I wanted the write the w word that Colombo Telegraph used on a headline, but then I would have had to wash my mouth with soap as grandma Kalahami told me to way back when.

T Devendra says he can’t wait till Gota is elected. He will have to wait long because Gota will have to serve time as a jailbird first for his multiple crimes. He will get into the same prison cell he pushed our great commander SF who won the war for us

Mahinda Rajapakse being a democrat gave the option to voters to decide. he held regular elections and left the office promptly when when the voters said so. The current junta, a darling of Shyamon, is trying all tricks to not to have elections. JVP, their partners in crime trying to help their buddies with the 20th amendment. Shyamon is acting “potta Naufer”………

“Mahinda Rajapakse being a democrat gave the option to voters to decide.”

      Come on.
      He was over confident.
He with his arrogance didn’t know what was waiting at the grass root level.
His confidantes told him what he wanted to hear, including his court astrologer.

He forgot that “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. -Abraham Lincoln”

Both Siri Mao the weeping widow and JR extended their tenure illegally in the 1970s and 80s. Did it bother you?

Whatever fool. We need elections and that’s all. Mahinda gave you the chance so you could vote against him. And Ranil, regardless of what he and his minions say 24 hours a day about the democracy doesn’t want to hold elections. Because he knows what the outcome is.

“Both Siri Mao the weeping widow and JR extended their tenure illegally in the 1970s and 80s. Did it bother you?”

They never farted “good governance” the way this government does.

“Mahinda gave you the chance so you could vote against him.”

          Don’t be silly.
Mahinda didn’t give us the chance to vote stupid ass, the constitution provides us with the right to vote. Please constitution is much much larger than Mahinda. Don’t chuck it into Mahinda’s amude. Its time you started learning. Go go away.

Just before 1977 elections JR branded it as Dharmista Samajaya perhaps an imagined new social order. What did he mean by Dharmista Society? Find out for yourself lazy bum.

The weeping widow’s party and her merry men stated vision was establishing a Socialist Democracy in Ceylon. We know how that island was destroyed during her reign, it was neither socialist nor a democratic.

Go spend some time reading vital statistics of Siri Mao’s reign.

China and N. Korea are communist states. Functioning of those states cannot be compared to Sri Lanka. If “rathu sahodarayas (rathu ali patau)” come to power as some of Shyamon’s buddies seem to prefer, SL may become another N. Korea with AKD becoming a “dear leader”.

“China and N. Korea are communist states. “

      Since when?
Would you please define what is a communist state?

“If “rathu sahodarayas (rathu ali patau)” come to power as some of Shyamon’s buddies seem to prefer, SL may become another N. Korea with AKD becoming a “dear leader”.”

The නිල් පාට (blue colour) weeping widow tried her best to convert this island into another N. Korea between 1970 and 1977 luckily we survived.

It does not matter whether communists are red or blue as long as they could build and run a dictatorship.

“The නිල් පාට (blue colour) weeping widow tried her best to convert this island into another N. Korea between 1970 and 1977 luckily we survived.”

Not only did she try, she also introduced the most progressive of any socialist policy. She took the land stolen by colonising foreign hordes and distributed it among landless poor who were robbed by foreign thieves.

The first task of a next Rajapakse government will be to reduce the ceiling on land ownership to 20 perches throughout the island. That will shut the hora bastards up.

          Original Owner

“she also introduced the most progressive of any socialist policy. “

And she hugely lost the elections in 1977.
          Do you know why?

I know its difficult for you to cite good studies, hence you type the much repeated myth about land reform.

          Excerpt from
          Land Reform in Sri Lanka
          By
          Vijaya Samaraweera

“neither the UF nor the SLFP had a realistic opportunity to bring about structural changes in the land use pattern since plantation agriculture- -which represented 58% of the land under permanent cultivation- -was tied so closely to the world capitalist system that it could only be altered at great peril.”

By the way I assume the weeping widow and her merry men distributed the entire estate land owned by foreigners and re distributed to landless peasants. Can you confirm please.
          -.
What you are typing about the weeping widow is just like gloating MR won the war, Gota won the war, ………………….

You can shove your report in where you think the sun shines from.

But we know the impact her policy had on rural poor whose land had been robbed hundreds of years ago.

You, as coming from the line of thieves may not like it. But the process will be continued.

Yes Original owner I applaud Mrs B every time I think of the seventies, she not only stopped the new bourgeoisies creaming the peasantry but she also taught all of us that happiness is not related to material wealth.

You are not alone who fancied the weeping widow, SJ is another one.

“she not only stopped the new bourgeoisies creaming the peasantry but she also taught all of us that happiness is not related to material wealth.”

            Is that so.
The weeping widow and her merry men made the bloody black marketeers millionaires between 1970 and 1977. In fact the poor paid dearly for her stupid misadventure gave Amirthalingam the rare chance of becoming the leader of the opposition. Khatte Hakkuru sawJR’s parliamentary seats increased from 17 seats in 1970 (37.91% votes) to 140 seats in 1977 (51% votes).

If that was economy stupid it was the classical example of mismanaging the economy.

Siri Mao sent her children abroad to be educated while the people were almost completely/effectively banned from travelling. Any one leaving the country was expected to produce a exit visa.

First ever post independence large scale riots took place under her husband’s watch. The large scale slaughter of innocent youth took place under her watch.

            You have some contextualizing problem.

I thought Mr Shaymon reads and understands Economics as well.
Lankawe GDP up to 2014, was 7 % Average since Mahinda came.
It is dropped to average 3% over 3 years after Mahinda left .
Gota defeated the Piraha Tigers, whom the West thought were like the British Forces who defeated the Ottomans in 1918.
BTW, my Elders tell me British Armistice and French Restrictions which were imposed on the Turks is coming to end soon.
And it will allow Ergodan to put his hands on vast reserves of Gas & Oil, which can make Istanbul a future Constantinople, which will be the richest in Europe next to Germany.
That is why even Turkish Mullas are welcome in the US , if they are against Erdogan…

Devendra argues that a writer cannot impose one’s views on another country. By the same logic, he cannot impose his views on his home country. Besides, criticism does not mean “imposing.” Does it?

Where did this come from? Kelart, Boru Art, what else?

I never tried to impose my views on my home country (of three generations). In fact I don’t have a view on enything raised in the article.

I just pointed out that the views expressed by the writer are not criticisms, but his intention to express his preference on internal political affairs fof another country. Civilised people do not do that sort of thing.

Many people here talk of Singapore. While Lee Kuan Yew restricted some freedoms, especially the so called ‘right’ to endlessly strike work as is happening in Sri Lanka today, he did not use white vans and steal wholesale. Forget all the theory and bombast and look at the Singapore today. They are fifty years ahead of Sri Lanka
A country can only be as good as its leaders and the leaders can only be as good as their education.
Not sure of the numbers of MPs and Ministers in Sri Lanka who do not even have O Levels or A Levels, but it must be the vast majority
Interestingly when Ranil W went for a short course in governance at some place like Harvard fairly recently (a favourite course of the Singapore administration) , even Colombo society for the most part found it hilarious. Compare that mentality to Singapore where education matters and which built on the treasures the British left them, and generation by generation built on that foundation to get to where they are today.
Below is a summary of the educational level of the Singapore Cabinet. I can’t even imagine how we can ever catch up, or even tail them 50 years behind. I am sure an educator like Goolbhai can shed more light on this than I can.
