Police Brutality Continues: No More Batons Now It’s Iron Bars

Photographic evidence shows that police yesterday used iron bars to attack the anti-SAITM protesters who were protesting at the Kollupitiya Junction.

At least 14 protestors have been injured and admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo.

Meanwhile the National Police Commission has launched an investigation into an assault committed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police on a detained protester during the riots that broke out in Hambantota last week. Secretary of the NPC Ariyadasa Cooray told media that discussions will be held today with regards to the alleged assault.

Are we becoming a police state. Who is training these thugs in uniform? This is no way to handle protesters. Shame on those responsible for the police brutality.

I think these are just exaggerations.

Our people are no like Europeans that would do anything and everything so CIVILIZED.

I think Lanken or POLICE in developing world need to be very harsh since people of each of those countries behave like animals.
Lately, I saw how Spanish reacted and how their police controlled them. They were no second to that of ours or any other developing police services:

I think we must not go exaggerations, slowly, they have to bring RIGOROUS laws.

Be it going to get on to the bus or anything Lankens have no disipline. This is why I love IF SARATH FONSEKA could shape up lanken disipline taking over LAW AND ORDER BODDIES.
Current rulers are TOO silly NOT to have bring STRICT laws.

Even if they the current men are transparent compared to MOST ABUSIVE bunch led by Rajapakshes, they are still no that good in bringing and reacting and enacting laws and taking decisions people s issues promptly.

Iron bars in Colombo; open palm of the hand in Hambantota. Is the rural culture still better?

The odds are in favour of the Riot Police in both SAITM protest and Hambantota Tamilnadu movie as there were Court Orders. This is not to downplay Daluwatte’s ear-slap and if this Police Officer has used the iron bar, a disciplinary action should be taken.

Police filed a case against Wimal for using a hand speaker-mic at a protest-march against Al-Hussein on a Saturday and the same Police brings iron bars to attack protesters. Unlike SAITM protest, there was no Court Order barring Wimal’s protest-march or the 100 odd Policemen who were present didn’t bother to stop him when he used the hand speaker as obviously it didn’t cause any inconvenience to the public. Court case was filed weeks after by Kekille Police allegedly based on an afterthought complaint converted to political witch-hunt.

Legislators disrespecting Court Orders is unacceptable. When lawyers defy Court Orders, it is very serious. In some countries it is a requirement to be of good character even as law students and maintain the highest standards throughout the career otherwise their licences are cancelled.

Lawmakers should not be law breakers. How could JO talk about weak rule of law in the country, when they themselves break the law?

There were former LG members in addition to Mahinda’s BossBaby who defied the Court Order. There is a new breed of anti-exemplar politicians.

The 28 villages including seniors and women who were arrested were obviously inveigled to the protest without informing them of the Court Order. Therefore, in all fairness these villagers should be warned and released on bail.

However, all hell will break loose one day as the decisions taken by the Parliament do not reflect public opinion or concerns.

          Champo,

IRONBARS or even knives are far more less harmful than CONTINOUS persecution by White vanning.

          Women and CHildren were attacked.
No freedom was given to those criticise anything.

How many among the JOURNOS went missing ? SIRASA took that long to reveal it until yestreday. But HAD MEDIA men been unbiased, they could make aware the people almost long ago.
I think we are caught by PVT media problems in this country.

CT criticises everything: That is for sure good. Sometimes, they are no pro My3; But they are somewhat neutral so, I come to comment this way.

All others are no means okay. They react as if they have no code of ethics.

DEMOCRACY IS NOT ALL FREEDOM BEING GIVEN TO ANIMAL-LIKE HUMAN BEINGS.

HUMAN BEINGS ARE NO DIFFERENT TO ANIMALS WHEN THERE ARE NO LAWS.

I CAN IMAGINE THIS ON THE WEST; AlSO I NOTICE IT WHENEVER THEY MAKE HOLIDAYS IN POOR COUNTRIES SUCH AS OURS, THEY BEHAVE AS IF EVERYTHING IS ALLOWED. LATTER IS THE BEST EXMAPLE TO KNOW THE FORMER:

The bad old UNP is back. Their true colours are ever so visible again. Those who thought the UNP had reformed itself after Yahapalanaya, think again. This is the party that made 60 000 youth disappear during the bloddy insurrection by JVP in late 80’s. Does anybody know where Richard de Soysa is? Who gave the orders to shoot Rohana Wijeweera and burn him alive? Who ran Batalanda? Why are you so surprised by iron bars? Cheers!
PS: Police Commission is inept and corrupt. IGP clown, who criminally assaulted his own employees on video is still sitting pretty. Sagala is watching all this with a pacifier firmly stuck in his mouth.

          Rohan Gunaratne,
I have no sympathy for JVP & GMOA mafia dominated never-ending protests. That is beside the point though. Are we going to dismantle grotesque Police brutality and impunity in this country? EVER! Are we going to build a 21st century, independent law enforcement? Or are we going to sacrifice a civilized future for our country just to keep useless, incompetent, corrupt SLFP & UNP monkeys in corridors of power? That’s the issue.
          Cheers!
PS: Rest assured Sri Lanka’s biggest criminal organisation is the Police. They murder, beat and torture people in Police cells all over Sri Lanka as we speak. When was the last time you were treated like a baby RG? Did they insert and iron bar to your rectum? Get in touch. They will happily perform that treatment on you and your family at your local Police station.

          0

Hey Rohan Gunaratne, what education you have? You speak with absolute disregard for human life. You speak and write like a brute. How many innocent people have been brutalized by these fellows in khaki uniform. Remember our great Richard DeZoysa? Sr. Supt. Ronnie Gunasinghe and his goon squad including Lal Priyantha Darmasiri Ranchagoda murdered this innocent man in cold blood. Did you even grieve for this man, an only child to Ms. Saravanamuttu. You are a cold blooded disgusting bugger who is not even worthy of this life on this planet. Similar goons burnt the Jaffna Library with thug ministers Gamini Dissanayake and the low class untouchable piece of sh&t by the name Cyril Matthew. Did you cry for that?

      • 5
        0

Man Bennie, you may have been cross implanted or what ? I m neither to UNP or to SLFP or any other parties in that part of the world. But I think it was JVP who killed our brother in 89. I returned to lanka early 90ties and went crying everywhere not being able to bear my grief having lost my then batchas.
Only son to a family from Imaduwa – colombo medical faculty student Kulatunga was my school mate. He was abducted and burnt down, nobody knew from whom.
I think both JVP and UNP should be made accoutable for those killings.
Killings were like a wave in that insurgency. I escaped myself just because i happened to leave the country. Was good enough to see your name to be a registered student at an Uni, then they persecuted you …. that was the BALUE LE culture. Even today, people are no improved by social values instead beahve swollen as any other far poor nations.

We are not now becoming a police state but we built up day by day from 1947. In 1956, Tamil politicians protested peacefully in front of Parliament surrounded by hundreds of policeman. Tamil parliamentarians were attacked by Sinhala Hooligans. Policeman just watched and didn’t do anything against those Hooligans because they were ordered by higher ranking officers by the order of Prime Minister not to anything against the hooligans. What do you expect from a policeman in this circumstances? We built up the nation and we built up all the institutions including police force with the same culture. This is the culture of politics out politician and our religious leaders taught to our children time and time again. Some of us think this is the 2500 years civilisation of Sinhala. Do you now blame the police or those who built up this culture?

        Silva,

Yes, Gota was a blood-thirsty, sadistic Police state operative. Very bad. Should have been jailed a long time ago. However, UNP can spit out loads of their own UNP Gotas at any given time. Both SLFP & UNP are extremely primitive organisations that have failed SL for 70 years. If you expect anything to change with those incompetent monkeys in the driving seat, YOU ARE STUPID! Sorry!

Silva , after all it is an another POOR country with larger majority is conditioned by corrupted so called politicians.

So, what cant go wrong here ?

School to parent house, they use no brain but muscle.

Parliament to some times buddhist temples they behaves like ANIMALS in cages.

Madamulana to Colombo, they get easily tamed by Arak bottle and a packet of chips so that they can betray even their entire families. Best recent example wa larger gathering ever for May day rally in colmobo. No matter even mothers would have been abducted and raped by MR thugs, they send their lovely ones to parade…
people are so naive and stupid as no other, i mean majority of them.

Police is very low self esteeem. They are cornered mostly by henchmen of politicians and politicians. right now only thing they do is I think writing tickets or fines. So, police need their self esteem back, they should be allowd to do their duty. Even then if they do not do, those bad apples should be let go. Because more educated but unemployed youth can recruited to those positions.

What are u bubbling JS ?

In a country where all law makers are with lower eduction, but their musles have been considered than the head.; CAN YOU EXPECT only POLICE to be with higher self esteem ?
You the idiots supported them the politcians loudly as you can at the time, KAHAWATTA or other slaughering INCIDENTs headlined lanken tabloids.
Rememeber, Ballige putha Rajapakshe uttered a single word from his cesspit, a line of INNOCIENT people had been murdered in that Kahawatta area …

So, today, the situation is 10000000000000 times decent.

Today, police though with some shortcomings face it. But in the high days of MEEHARAKA, police was so servile as you guys have been made to OR not ?

People of your nature should be ROUND up from lanken society, you are the ferlizer them to provide the nursaries.

Those men in Diwulapitiya have never been focused by Investigations, even if their kith and kin had Dug out the soil triggering new kind of soil erosions in the country.

this government is becoming very insensitive to the feelings of the masses. They appointed Dr Colvin Gooneratne as SLMC chairman much to the dislike of everyone concerned except Dr Gooneratene himself who is greedy of positions. In his interview he has outlined his intentions that he is waiting for the PM and President to tell him what to do with SAITM and the basic standards will be 2C’s and S. He is a very incapable and insensitive man. Though there is freedom to speak the voices are not heard. what ever the people say is inconsequential. they donot bother about people. All insensitive people are getting together.

    • 3
      4

Prof. Colvin didn’t make standards, but these are still the standards under which medical students even now are admitted to State Medical Schools, KDU, and SAITM, that authority belonging to UGC and not to people’s opinions. Prof. Colvin and SLMC are govt. body and their decisions have to align with govt. law and the justice of the Judiciary verdict. Past govt. behaved as if country was their private piece of cake, and they could rob and murder. Country govt. is A. legislature of Parliament making laws, B. Executive Cabinet of Ministers carrying it out through public departments C. Judiciary giving verdicts to correct any violation of laws bringing injustice to citizens with Constitutional rights.
SAITM approved by UGC for curriculum and exams. like State and KDU, granted MBBS. SLMC became malicious, but courts gave justice of internship as a constitutional right to SAITM MBBS to finish their legally approved course.
Prof. Colvin confirmed the violation with inside information exposing Carlo’s insanity of EMAILING the Prof. Sheriff report and recommendations and later twisting it to an evil report, helped by biased DEANS. SLMC is expected to have “INTEGRITY” and not the public opinion of rabid, funded, street hooligans with no authority except their malicious, jealous and accusatory tongues.

      • 7
        2

the first committee that went from UGC had Prof. Malkanthy Chandrasekera which said SAITM did not meet the required standards the Prof chandrasekara was made the Dean of SAITM medical factory. At that point she was the standing committee chairperson (conflict of interest) and Prof Ratnayake who went in the first committe was also offered a job by SAITM owner, but as he was a decent academic he declined. Then the second commiite was sent by Prof Malkanthy chandrasekara which approved with reservations.

SB Dissanayake was bribed to grant degree awarding status( for this he took the power from the UGC) Now Rajitha has forced the President and RW to support NFH at a great loss to the government.

Yes I know dr colvin very well

        • 1
          1

Prem, You know too much gossip and may be some early episodes which are totally irrelevant today. Events have marched on and Malkanthy is dead. Teething problems were overcome and the baby has now grown into an adult with voting rights. The court went into all this and more- a 600 page document on which court gave the verdict- 42 pages. Read it to get more accurate information C/A Writ 187 / 2016 So that is now the law of the land.
You seem to have been and seen a bribe being given. As a good citizen, you should have reported or now forever hold your tongue. Great that you saw a force on Prez. and PM, but what is the loss to govt. on NFH when people get free treatment, whether from one hospital or other. You are friend of Colvin family

Good governance is what promised by MS/RW before against tough and rough MR rule ,but then there was a brutal war,ant time there was possibility to blast in to smithereens, but MS/RW got a peaceful country, from the day first they place the country and people in difficulty in every front ,corruption all over, white van abduction to defenders, north seems to be no government authority,East allowed riders to ride without helmets, grabbing crown lands and temple happening every day, Mannar 80% votes to MS ,so turns blind eye to grabbing lands by rishad without taking any action,SAITM now shaking whole country, soon this will go over the nose level very soon politicians (they are not leaders)don’t know what to do they are like crabs in the pot with water to be boiled ,this is a comedy to them till the water getting boiling, people should direct the politicians to correct path,at least by likes or dislikes

Lal, this is what is i also feel,MS elevated to top post by UNP mainly, and some other NGOs, so he may have to listen to them ,so president is totally inactive ,due to that every jack and Jill in the government, act according to their whims and fancies ,any way beating kids this way totally unacceptable for something that easily solve if truly leader is there who love his people.

This type of suppression is certainly NOT right and can only lead to an escalation when de-escalation is the need of the hour. We have to learn from other countries like Hong Kong where massive protests are handled by the authorities in more humane ways.

Frequent protests have become a public nuisance and although the photographs look horrible the general public have very little sympathy for them and this has to stop somewhere. If one of your kith and kin dies may be father mother brother sister or an infant on the way to the hospital due to a delay in medical attention owing to a traffic jam caused by a protest will you forgive them. This reminds me of Hiroshima and Nagasaki although the force used was extremely excessive brutal and unacceptable to the civilized society that stopped the Japanese.

Of course not genius Upali. Beat a few protestors to death to keep the road open. The elites may then drive their a/c limousines without hindrance.

Absolutely right. Even excess has to be used to stop the devil. We are not a dictatorship but an occult democracy built on some ancient historical order which has devas and gods worshipped by the majority. Same ancient spirits get reincarnated in evil leaders playing havoc with citizens. Need imprisonment.

Fully agreed. They look like hired thugs rather than hooligan students. What a waste of tax payer money that medical students are not attending classes and Uni teachers draw full salaries doing nothing. Yes like in other countries University courses should be fee leving, then all this rot will stop. Imagine if all bus and train travel was free, you will get lots of guys just going up and down for the heck of it, apart from genuine travellers. A socialist government under Tony Blair introduced fee levying University educationin 1998 and no one went on strike. Civilisation is challenge and response, sadly 0ur response is weak so we continue to go backward whilst other countries prosper. Take Malaysia for example.

      • 0

Shelton agreed. Hired thugs and robed terrorists strike while most medicos disappear to study. It is the rabid SLMC Deans with Karl Marx who put illegal SAITM requirements to Theras, who don’t understand medical education. Deans descend very low to demand illegal hospital training to SAITM as well as illegal ERPM, as well as closure of a private business enterprise.
SAITM REGISTERED AND FUNCTIONED UNDER UGC APPROVED EXISTING CONDITIONS AND COMPLETED MBBS. ANY NEW DEMANDS NOW NOT APPLICABLE TO EXISTING STUDENTS BUT ONLY TO FUTURE RECRUITS.. SLMC DEANS NEVER SET STD. EXAM. TO ASSESS, BUT ONLY GOING TO THERAS TO DESTROY FUTURE OF SAITM BECAUSE OF VERDICT AGAINST THEM. THEY CANT CONTROL THEIR OWN STUDENTS. THEIR SOLUTION HAS NO HOPE FOR SAITM UNDER OLD CONDITIONS

This is a continuation of the previous regime with only a change of name. Till such time as the people decide that the wine inside the bottle should be changed, this cursed country will go on without even developing to a stage where we could at least manufacture a push cycle on our own.

Yes budies, police should shoot them instead of beating them. This non sense got to stop once and for all, this couldn’t go on forever. They are rowdies and thugs, not students, if they are students, they should be studying in their classes, not running about the streets like mad dogs, causing hardships to the daily lives of the people. People should have freedom to choice their education, whether it’s free or private, non should have any right to stop free or private education. if they want free education, let them go to the states institutiona, and those want fee paying education, let them go to private institutions. It’s the duty of them government to set standards and regulate them. What’s the pause about it. Why these mad dogs creating such mainham in the country. The government should get the law enforcement authorities to infiltrate these organisations, find out who are the culprit who instigating these mad dogs, and put all of them behind bars. Else never this god forsaken country could be reformed. Period.

SLMC was in violation and asked to give internship to SAITM MBBS to complete any deficiencies like most state meds. in Rajarata and Eastern where SLMC showed double standards. SLMC duplicity should be reported to GMC, UK showing 1st the Prof. Rizvi Sheriff with its recommendations, and then how it was twisted into a 2nd evil report by Karl Marx to abolish legal UGC approved SAITM already MBBS completed. There is no other solution for SAITM to bring its approved course to completion like KDU and NCMC. What other solution than a full teaching hospital gifted to govt. free for free treatment.
