President Maithripala Sirisena visited Mullaitivu this morning and took part in a number of programmes relating to the Northern province development.

The notable absentee during the President’s programme in Mullaitivu this morning was Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who also holds a position as the Northern Province Development Minister.
When contacted by Colombo Telegraph, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Wickremesinghe was not invited to attend the President’s event in Mullaitivu today.
“The Prime Minister has been kept in the dark about the President’s visit to Mullaitivu. Under usual circumstances, it is the subject minister who coordinates regional events of this nature. In this case, however, the usual protocol has not been followed for some reason,” a senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Although Sirisena did not invite the subject ministers, he invited several Cabine ministers from the UNP including Daya Gamage and Rishad Bathiudeen. In addition, he also invited Northern Province Governor Suren Raghavan and three opposition MPS namely Dayasiri Jayasekera, Angajan Ramanathan and Cader Masthan.
During the visit, Sirisena launched a drug prevention campaign in the Northern province, granted financial assistance to schools in the Mullaitivu area affected by recent floods and released over 1000 acres of government-occupied lands for the public use.

This is exactly what Tamil provincial councils have been complaining over the years about the interference of central government in their affairs. Both side (Sirisena and RanilW) are behind these coups (if they are coups)! That’s why both sides are silent and not ready to prosecute either side.
Sirisena made a mistake by jumping to the UNP side as common candidate and RanilW was wrong to approve him as the CC. Both are paying a heavy price (mentally and politically) now. Grass-root level UNPers or SLFPers are not ready to listen to them any more.
The general UNP voters are very upset and have been joining the Pohottuwa slowly but surely. SLFP voters had a good choice and easily went to Pohottuwa at the last local elections.
Sirisena and RanilW will be the biggest losers at any future election.
Most of those who write comments regularly are just arm-chair critics who know nothing about the ground realities of Sri Lanka. I invite them at least to go to SL once a year, experience the situation, and make genuine comments.

It is a high handed act of the President, not to have invited the subject minister, who
happened to be the Prime Minister of the country and most importantly the MP of the area. He is deviating from usual protocol for some reason.Stern action should be taken by RW against those UNP ministers, who attended the event, without his permission.
