Isaac Newton third law says for every action there is an equal and opposite re-action. What that means is that for every force there is a reaction force that is equal in size, but opposite in direction.
Isaac Newton law of motion not only applies to the physical world, it equally applies to the spiritual world. In common parlance, the word karma describes the entire chain of moral cause and effect wherein the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. This principle of spiritual causation is found in most religions. The principle is also found in Western society embedded in maxims like “what comes around, goes around” and in Biblical scriptures such as “A person reaps what he sows.”
People who are in high and responsible positions, if they go against righteousness, righteousness itself will get transformed into a destroyer. Whoever deviates from righteousness, whether they are individual or states, they are responsible for their own actions.
The Rajapaksa family which strode the political stage like a colossus unchallenged and unquestioned before January 09 have been dethroned and reduced to the status of Alibaba and forty thieves who robbed the treasury at their whims and fancies. No one expected the collapse of Rajapaksa’s empire to fall this soon and in this inglorious fashion. Certainly not Rajapaksa and his astrologer.
Daily we now hear news stories about Rajapaksa family’s unbridled corruption, bribery, nepotism, waste of public funds, selective law enforcement and authoritarianism. Under Mahinda Rajapaksa the white van culture flourished and death squads hunted down and murdered rich businessmen for ransom. Many fled the country to save their lives while others disappeared without a trace. An air of nauseating fear gripped Thamils and Muslims businessmen in Colombo. Even if the accusations against Rajapaksa only half true, it is still an unprecedented disaster for good governance.
The latest to be hauled up before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) is Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the former first lady. One does not know the exact charges against her, but Namal Rajapaksa claims “My mother has always stayed away from politics. Does she deserve this harassment? ‘Yahapalanaya’ seems just a facade for this government. Vengeance isn’t ‘good governance.’
Namal uses the word vengeance forgetting how the Rajapaksa family treated Sarath Fonseka. After hailing him as a war hero and the best army commander in the world, Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa went after him like hungry wolves. Sarath Fonseka was arrested as part of a political vendetta after he unsuccessfully challenged Mahinda Rajapaksa at the presidential election in 2010.
He was held incommunicado at the navy headquarters amid lurid allegations by the government that he was plotting to overthrow the president. He was court marshalled before two Military Courts on trumped up charges and sent to jail where he wore prison uniform, ate kiri bath on tin plates and carried water can to the toilet like any other prisoner. To his credit he never asked for any special privileges from his tormentors. He was stripped of his rank, medals, uniform, pension and his name was erased from all military records.
Today, due to twist of fate, Sarath Fonseka is a decorated field marshal while his tormentor Mahinda Rajapaksa is just an ordinary citizen, not even a Member of Parliament and facing corruption charges!
I am no fan of Sarath Fonseka who is accused of committing war crimes, but I resent the uncivilized way he was treated by Mahinda Rajapaksa. So Namal should be careful to talk about political vengeance for the arrest of his mother.
There is also news of another member of the Rajapaksa royal family Pushpa Rajapaksa, spouse of Economic Development minister Basil Rajapaksa, receiving a deposit of Rs. 500 million to the foundation run by her from the Colombo International Container Terminal, a Chinese construction firm. This firm has obtained a contract to construct buildings in the Colombo Port City.
Since January 09, there has been a spate of arrests of Ministers, MPs and stooges of Mahinda Rajapaksa on charges of fraud, corruption and theft of government property. Prominent among them is the high profile Basil Rajapaksa, the former Minister of Economic Development on suspicion of misappropriating Rs.70m from the Divi Neguma rural development funds to hold a conference. Another Rs. 70 m was misappropriated for his brother’s election campaign he was in charge. He is also accused of printing and distributing 15,000 Divi Neguma almanacs to promote former president’s campaign.
As minister in charge of Economic Development and reconstruction efforts in the northern and eastern provinces, he wielded enormous powers. His Ministry was placed beyond the reach of the Auditor General something unprecedented in the annals of history. It was a legal ruse to escape audit of financial transactions and accountability.
Basil Rajapaksa was arrested on April 23, 2015 along with the second suspect, Secretary of Divi Neguma Ministry Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka and former of Divi Neguma Project Manager Gen. R.A.A.K. Ranawaka.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa is accused of providing the wherewithal for Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd a subsidiary of Avant Garde Security Services (Pvt) Ltd, and incorporated on the 24th June 2011 under the Companies Act (reference: NO.7 of 2007) of Sri Lanka. Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd entered into a joint venture with Government Owned Business Undertaking (GOBU) of Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd (RALL) of Sri Lanka to provide infrastructure facilities for international maritime security services. The Parent Company; Avant Garde Security Services (Pvt0 Ltd is the largest security company in Sri Lanka employing over 6,500 personnel. It has an unblemished record of over 17 years of service and providing land based security to many organizations including key blue chip companies, most of the banks and financial institutions, including Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Limited provides comprehensive range of total risk mitigation solutions to the global maritime industry and also engaged in the business of providing of total logistical assistance to vessels transiting the Indian Ocean. Avant Garde Maritime Services has created a network of facilities in strategic locations to ensure maritime security companies are assured of obtaining weapons and associated items for passage through piracy risk area and handing over them to be under the control of AGMS / RALL officers at the relevant destination ports before repatriation of sea marshals. AGMS is a Signatory Company of the ICoC (International Code of Conduct), secured SAMI (Security Association Maritime Industry) membership and in the process of getting affiliated to international maritime agencies.
Police launched investigations following information received by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Southern Range, and D. J. S. Gunawardhana about news on the discovery of a floating armoury at the Galle Port. The armoury belonged to a private security company by the name Avant-garde. A total of 3,154 firearms and 770,059 rounds of ammunition were recovered from seven containers on the ship named Maha Nuwara. The police unearthed evidence linking Gotabaya to Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Limited.
On March 6, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila stated that there was a conspiracy to arrest Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s name is also coupled with the foul murder of Sunday Leader newspaper chief editor Lasantha Wickrematunga on 8th January,2009 on his way to office in Colombo.
Lasantha Wickrematunge left a posthumous letter that claimed both he and Mahinda Rajapaksa knew who will be behind his death. For the benefit of posterity let me quote excerpts from his letter.
“In the wake of my death I know you will make all the usual sanctimonious noises and call upon the police to hold a swift and thorough inquiry. But, like all the inquiries you have ordered in the past, nothing will come of this one, too. For truth be told, we both know who will be behind my death, but dare not call his name. Not just my life, but yours too, depends on it.
Sadly, for all the dreams you had for our country in your younger days, in just three years you have reduced it to rubble. In the name of patriotism you have trampled on human rights, nurtured unbridled corruption and squandered public money like no other President before you. Indeed, your conduct has been like a small child suddenly let loose in a toyshop. That analogy is perhaps inapt because no child could have caused so much blood to be spilled on this land as you have, or trampled on the rights of its citizens as you do. Although you are now so drunk with power that you cannot see it, you will come to regret your sons having so rich an inheritance of blood. It can only bring tragedy. As for me, it is with a clear conscience that I go to meet my Maker. I wish, when your time finally comes, you could do the same.”
Wickrematunge’s prediction from the grave remains true as no one has been arrested or charged with his murder. A journalist with the Canberra Times reported that the person referenced at “dare not call his name” is Mahindra’s younger brother, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, ex defense secretary.
When the BBC reporter interviewed Gotabaya Rajapaksa in February, 1999 and questioned him about Wickrematunge’s premature death the former went berserk. He behaved like a possessed person with eyes bugging, hands shaking, voice pitch rising and casting suspicion on all the former presidents. He derided Wickrematunge as a “tabloid writer” who had many enemies and said anyone could have killed him. He said it was “just another murder.” He ends the interview by calling all dissent and criticism of the government as ‘treason.’
Another prominent minister of the deposed Rajapaksa regime and parliamentarian, Johnston Fernando was arrested on May 05 by FCID on charges of misappropriating state resources. Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the former minister of Co-operatives and Internal Trade has been arrested after being summoned to the FCID to obtain a statement in with regard to the alleged misappropriation of Rupees 5.2 million at Lanka Sathosa. According to the police spokesman, former minister Fernando has been arrested under the Public Property Act.
On May 11 Sajin Vass Gunawardena, MP was arrested by the CID for the alleged misuse of public vehicles belonging to the President Secretariat Office. A total of 120 vehicles belonging to the President Secretariat Office have gone missing and Sajin Vass Gunawardena admitted the offence of transferring 22 vehicles belonging to the presidential secretariat for the use of his private company. The monthly lease payments for these vehicles have been paid by the ex President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidential secretariat!
Sajin Vass Gunawardena, a head line news maker, was hand picked by Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Monitoring Minister of the Foreign Ministry. Sajin has been accused of involving in several controversies ranging from fraud, crime, remand time, fraud bureau investigations, unpaid loans, spying and unfulfilled promises. He was widely criticized for his role as CEO of Mihin Lanka and faced several fraud allegations against him.
In September 2014, at a dinner party held in New York, Sajin Vass reputedly dealt a blow to the head of Dr. Chris Nonis, the Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Britain. The blow to Dr. Noni head almost broke his ear drum!
Mahinda Rajapaksa took under his wing politician like Sajin Vass, other under world characters, murderers and drug smugglers to strengthen his voter support.
Mahinda Rajapaksa during his tenure wasted government funds in forming jumbo cabinet, oversized delegations to UNO, UNHRC and other foreign capitals at state expense. He built the fancy Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport where no planes are landing. He built the Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port (also known as the Port of Hambatotta) where only one ship per month is docking. Despite all the corruption charges against him, he is planning to return to power by contesting the upcoming parliamentary polls as the prime ministerial candidate.
As I have said before, Mahinda Rajapaksa is out, but not down. He still enjoys support from extreme Sinhala nationalists who claim he is related to Lord Buddha and King Dutugemunu.
If the Rajapaksa brothers succeed in staging a come back to politics, once again there will be a throw back to the dark era of repressive and dictatorial rule. Democracy will be put on hold for decades.

I am sure you are familiar also with the pendulum effect, as well as Newton’s third law. We seem to be swinging from one extreme to another.
The pendulum swung from Mrs B to President JR, From President JR to President Premadasa, from President Premada to President Chandrika Kumaratunga, from CBK to President Mahinda Rajapakse and from President Mahinda Rakapakse to President Maithripala Sirisena (and Ranil).
Is the pendulum swinging again the other way? Through all these actions and reactions I hope we are able to pursue president Maithripala Sirisena’s middle path of ‘Development and Reconciliation’

A good analytical article by V. Thangavelu who has been writing on the misdeeds and excesses happening under the previous regime in Sri Lanka under his own name without fearing for his life.
The picture of Mr M Rajapakse with his trimmed Hitler moustache and with his feudal clan says a lot. That also reminds us of the inhuman treatment and incarceration of the traumatised Sri Lankan Tamils behind barbed wires who escaped starvation, bombing and shelling within a narrow so-called safe zone. This was how Adolf Hitler treated Jews.
A philosopher from Cambridge University once said he believed in God for the reason that evil men fall and injustice prevails at the end. Hitler’s Germany, White Apartheid Regime in South Africa and Rajapaksa’s familial rule met sudden unexpected ends. One wonders if they are acts of God or rule of Karma.
One of have thought both are the same but in this case it was the perpetrator himself advanced his fall prompted by Karma.

It is a well written summary of facts that happened since 9th January. The people should understand clearly Mahinda is an actor and a cheat. He played double game all around his time in politics. In his mind Sinhalese people are modaya’s and they can be cheated easily for ever. He thought not only Sinhalese but also he can cheat India and the West. In your 3rd para, you have reproduced a famous quote by former Indian President Dr. Abdul Kalam. However, it doesn’t applicable to our Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Dr. Abdul Kalam has ideally described ‘Mahinda Rajapaksa’ in his following quote:

By admitting that your ARTICLE IS BASED ON ‘STORIES”, with your own words, you have NEUTRALIZED your own unverified, unconfirmed, groundless allegations against Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family. In reply to your rigmarole pertaining to Shiranthi Rajapaksa and FCID, I wish to reproduce, a recent statement made by Mahinda Rajapaksa in the case of Johnston Fernando, which reads as follows:
“As constituted by law, instead of ‘hearing the case first’ and ‘then determine the punishment’, the “Good Governance” government uses FCID to ‘first punish’ innocent people who are not proven guilty, and ‘then produce them to the court to release’ them'”.
According to the law, every person who is not proven guilty by a court, is innocent. Therefore, all law abiding citizens in this country have a right to protest against the headless FCID’s jungle law.
Sarath Fonseka was tried while he was in active service, according to military law within the frame of military discipline and punishment, and not under civil or criminal law. It was an accepted norm and there was nothing uncivilized there.
Again, in your 11th para, you have stated that “there is also NEWS of another member of the Rajapaksa royal family ……..”. Please, grow up, Thangavelu, you are just reproducing ‘NEWS”.
I am getting bored Thangavelu. There is no originality in your article. I feel like I am reading a collection of headlines that appeared in various newspapers, websites and junk e-news sites. None of these allegations are proven before the courts.
Now, Basil Rajapaksa and “Divi Neguma”. You have stated that Basil Rajapaksa was arrested on “SUSPICION” and that he was also “ACCUSED OF” miscellaneous paraphernalia. Both those words (in capitals) do not assert in any way that Basil is of guilty on those accusations. They should be proven in Court to make him guilty. I strongly condemn the cowardice act by the Government in arresting three Government Officials who pulled their weight to make the ‘Divi Neguma” programme a great success.
You know NOTHING about the gamut of economic benefits to the poor people that was unveiled by Basil Rajapaksa’s Economic Development Ministry. “Divi Neguma”, which was a brilliant concept implemented to bring economic development to over 2.5 million family units island-wide, used a cluster approach with five line Ministries working together for one industrial economic unit. There was a loan scheme through “Divi Neguma’ Community Banks targeting five million self-employed people in providing loans to improve their livelihood development projects.
A large number of traditional and small Industries had re-established to strengthen the economy in the Eastern Province, which had been abandoned due to LTTE terrorism. Those flourishing industries immensely contributed to the uplifting of living standards of the people in the Eastern Province.
Did I hear that gurgling sound again in your stomach, Thangavelu? Watch out.
About Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. What exactly is he accused of? Your long paragraph 15 itself, STRONGLY AFFIRMED that Gotabhaya had duly and perfectly acted in accordance with the law in establishing those institutions.

That’s the problem, not the loan per se, although god knows what unfavourable terms were agreed to even there. Even the damage done to flora and fauna by this project were apparently disregarded. I don’t want to waste my time on you. You have taken the role of the devil’s advocate for Rajapaksa brothers. Right or wrong you have decided to defend them come rain or sun. You have lost the faculty to think rationally and analyse the pros and cons of a subject. If according to you Rajapaksa was a righteous ruler and super Sinhala hero comparable to Duttu Gemenu how come he lost the presidential elections? Compared to 2010 elections Rajapaksa lost 247,934 (10.30%) in all 22 districts. In the 16 Sinhala -Buddhist districts he lost 219,949 (11.09%) compared to 2010 elections. Rajapaksa claims he lost the elections because Thamils as a blog voted against him. That is only partly true. Last time also Thamils voted for Sarath Fonseka but Rajapaksa won by 1,842,749 (57.88%) votes! You claim Rajapaksa is DEFINITELY coming back. I wish you good luck, but Rajapaksa will contest without state resources and the government controlled media. No access to millions of Samurdhi funds. In the North these funds were used to give chickens, goats and cows to the voters. There was cash gifts up to Rs.15,000 to some families. Bribing the voters with their own money did not pay any dividends in terms of votes. The results shows people got the money, goats and cows but did not vote for Rajapaksa.
I quoted newspaper reports, because no charges have been laid against the Rajapaksa brothers. I am aware of the fact these are only allegations not proven in a court of law. But how come there is a widespread perception that Rajapaksa played ducks and drakes, especially money, with state resources? In regard to Shiranthi Rajapaksa, I have not passed any judgment. But I am sure the FCID will not summon Shiranthi unless there is a prima facie case against her based on investigation. It was public knowledge she used government helicopters during the elections, in some instances to travel from Ratmalana to Colombo, without payment.
You are trying to absolve Rajapaksa of any blame for arresting and humiliating Sarath Fonseka borders on absurdity. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence know that Rajapaksa turned against Sarath Fonseka for daring to contest him in the election. Sarath Fonseka recently said he was offered Rs.400m for him if he will withdraw support to Sirisena. On November 2011 Fonseka was sentenced to three years in jail and fined Rs. 5000 in a two-one split verdict delivered in the white flag case with two judges finding him guilty on one of the charges while one of the judges acquitted him on all three charges. But on January 22, he was given the Complete Presidential Pardon and acquitted of all charges restoring his civic rights. The pardon restored his military rank and decorations as well as his pension. By a twist of fate now it is the turn of Rajapaksa brothers. All of them are facing accusations of bribery, corruption, public waste etc. It is a 180 degree turn around.

Finally, it is difficult to argue with a person who claims”Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Port both are PROUDLY SRI LANKAN projects that we take immense pride in, which had created many job opportunities for the youth. Mahinda Rajapaksa’s far-sightedness in rebuilding our country is commendable.” The whole world knows the Mattala Airport is idling. No planes are landing. So is the Hambantota Port. Come hell or high water, I standby MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA and what I believe is right. You are correct there.
You failed to provide any proof in support of whatever allegations repeated by you. Therefore, there is no way people will believe them.
It is no secret as to how and on what grounds President Sirisena secured minority votes. He is struggling very pathetically to meet those demands, at present.
If you think Mahinda Rajapaksa can’t come back for the reason that he is not in power or that he needs state resources, I leave you to be surprised at the outcome of the next general election.
This is my natural style of writing. I came forward only after January 9th, to make a voice against the injustices brought to Mahinda Rajapaksa by back stabbers, liers and vindictive and spiteful people. There is no mud slinging by me at personal level or otherwise. You should look at YOURSELF first. YOU wrote a politically motivated denigratory article against Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family PURELY based on assumptions and presumptions.
By citing baseless newspaper stories and rumours which were not proven at any court at all, it was YOU, who tried to sling mud, insult, disrepute, denigrate and humiliate MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA, who is
– a Sinhalese National Leader who treated all Sri Lankans equally, irrespective of their race, religion, creed or cast, and

MR’s defeat was not totally unexpected. Both the TNA and the CMC said they would support Maithri. Also see the article in the Island by Kumar David “This piece is drafted on the premise that Mahinda Rajapaksa can be defeated on January 8, 2015, which is not the same as saying it is a certainty – that is too early to judge since the gravity of the Maithripala Sirisena (MS) challenge may or may not endure”

Possible no-one excpected the ‘hate votes’ of some parts of the country. Many political analysts and men on the street expected it.
I for one never expected MR to win a third term in two years from now. However his invincibility has been grossly exaggerated by those who are trying to give themselves credit for doing something. Apparently everyone is taking credit, the Pope’s visit, Astrologers, Social Media: everyone except the CIA, Arab Spring, RAW and the Elections Department.
You mention how SF was treated : SF was convicted as having taken part in politics while still in uniform. He refused to accept the results of the election in 2010. You yourself say he is accused of war crimes. In any case two wrongs don’t make a right.
The accusations of corruption, all still unproven, are not limited to the previous government. Every leader has been accused of corruption, inlcuding supplying of weapons to the terrorists fighting our soldiers. How is that for corruption? And you talk about Mig Deals.
The accusations of who killed Lasantha have been circulated in the Hansard, brought by Ranil W at that time, and in these CT pages. None less than Lasantha’s own brother and co-founder of the leader have written in these pages naming names. And the accused is not whom who say it is here. Readers are all free to check these.
You say if MR “He still enjoys support from extreme Sinhala nationalists.. .” That is their right. There are extremists on both sides, it is not against the law to support whoever they want. Apparently you do not like Democracy.

How will this happen? President Maithripala will still be president. MR’s family will still be under investigation – or will this be stopped? In any case we are under “Yahapalanaya” so if this is not good governance, it will not happen. Dictatorial rule by whom? The PM?
A free and fair election, with no possiblity of MR rigging the polls, will result in “Democracy being put on hold”
