Gunawardena today requested Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya to lift the travel ban issued on him so he could travel to India from November 11 to 16, 2016. However, the Magistrate informed Gunawardena, who is currently out on bail, that he should submit his request on November 4, when the case with regard to the Mihin Lanka is taken up again.

Gunawardena was released on bail in September in the Mihin Lanka case where he is alleged to have entered into an illegal contract worth Rs. 880 million with a Singaporean Company to obtain ground handling related equipment.

Gunawardena is also out on bail in another case, where a businessman, has accused Gunawardena of defrauding his company Rs. 600 million.
