    OMG..
What a Crowd.. What a sophisticated gathering..
I am watching Mr Akila giving his speech from the Balcony of my apartments, but on my Lap of course.

But i can’t see any sea of heads in or around Wellala Gardens despite Akila boy boasting about packed crowds up to Colombo Six in the South.

All I saw was a few Blue CTB buses , now owned by UNP Mudalasis, de touring near ARPICO in to Marine Drive.

But no Cool Dudes or Intelligentsia or the Yuppies in them .
    I can understand without A/Cs ..

But the Foot Board riders in Green Shirts were shouting “Sajith Enawa ” “Sajith Enawa.”..
Funny enough the young guy who was rushing behind me asked Cohenda Enne and gave me a smirky smile while brushing past me to get in to a Trishow..

Wonder whether the Young Fella was rushing to get a glimpse of Keslwatta Kid?…

I guess he is our only logical and viable choice.
Sajith is not a bad guy. UNP under Sajith would be a different ball game.
I have always been a JVP fan, but considering the way things stand, the only way to defeat that psychopathic monster, Gota, is to put every single, freedom-loving, vote behind Sajith.
Let’s vote for a humane United and peaceful Sri Lanka.

All these crowd pulling is useless, as Sajith cannot win without the support of Tamils. Most probably majority of Tamils will abstain, (unless Sajith gives satisfactory plan of solving the Tamil demands in his manifesto), giving victory to Gota. Transporting people in buses free of charge will not give the true picture. I can remember in 1977, SLFP transported people free in buses for meetings all round the country to portray its popularity, but what happened at the election was different. As far as Tamils are concerned, best person to whom to cast their vote is Sirithunga Jayasuriya, who is honest, has a clear understanding of the rights of Tamils and correctly spelled out to solve the problem.

          Dr. Gnana Sankaralingam,

I’m sure you are living in another country and want the Tamils to abstain and hand over the victory to Gota. You are no different to the Sinhalese who have very Sinhalese-centric attitudes. And the common denominator you both share is that you want others to pay the sacrifice. While, you yourselves, and your children are having good safe lives and enjoying all the privileges.

The “Sinhalese-Buddhist” humbugs who exploit the poor ignorant Sinhalese are no different to “Tamil” humbugs who exploit the poor Tamils stuck in Lanka without a way/escape out. I have seen the palatial houses of LTTE money-collectors in Canada. They care for the Tamils as much as the Rajapakses (with their mansions in California) and their sidekicks care for the Sinhalese.

You are the two sides of the same coin!

This is not a time to think about some cockamamie ideal situation ……… but to think what choices are available to people living and struggling in Lanka; irrespective of race/ethnicity/religion.

Irrespective of race, Lankans have always had only one choice in all elections – to select the best out of the worse. …….. Nothing else!

It didn’t/doesn’t matter if one is Sinhalese or Tamil or a Lankan born on Mars.

Nimal Fernando, what I have said is not my thinking but based on reality. Tamils are fed up of the Sinhala politicians. Tamils gave a chance to UNP to solve their problems, but what have they done. It is five years since they took power and still there are several Tamils unable to get back to their original places. When Tamils are the ones who have suffered most and not being given relief, how do you justify the settlement of Sinhalese and Muslims in lands where they never lived before. Easter attack was deliberately planned to ward off Tamil demands and keep them under suppression citing national security. If Gota & Co will practice overt racism, Sajith & Co will practice covert racism. If you take a survey among Tamils you will find that they will not vote for Gota and are in two minds about voting for Sajith or not. If Tamils vote for Sajith, it is on the basis that lesser evil is better, and not with any hope of receiving justice. At this age with years of political career ahead, you cannot expect Sajith to rise to the level of a statesman and move towards reconciliation. Selecting best out of the worse has resulted in the past, of the selected one being worst of all.

Yes with assurances or without Sajith wouldn’t harm any minority but they will have to learn a lesson from Alles episode from the past. Don’t cry later. Kamal Gunartna will launch another con story.

Sajith may not harm Tamils by abduction, murder, rioting etc, but he will continue the process of not returning lands occupied by army, not allowing Tamils to settle in their original places, settling of Sinhalese and Muslims to alter demographic pattern, not devolving power even that is guaranteed in the constitution, dilly dallying with new constitution making etc, which will be harmful to Tamils. What happened in 2005 is different from present position. At that time Prabaharan had antagonized international community by sabotaging the peace process and wanted to elect Mahinda who was opposed to that peace process, with whom he wanted to play ball and continue his grip on Tamils. This is the reason why international community and India wanted to get rid of Prabaharan. However much Mahinda says, it was the support given by international community that decided on fate of LTTE. (Contd)

            • 1
              0

In 2005, majority of Tamils wanted to vote for Ranil, which was the correct decision, but it was Prabaharan for his selfish reason prevented them from voting. So Tamils should not be blamed for what happened to them as they were helpless to disobey Prabaharan. In 2015 Tamils voted correctly for Sirisena & UNP to give them a chance to solve their problem. By this they have demonstrated to the world that no Sinhala government will ever grant them the right of self governance. What has the UNP led government has done during 2015 till now. They continued the same racist program with sweet words to cover up their acts. Since the government was supported by USA, west and India, they did not pressurize it regarding justice and reconciliation. Situation has changed and Tamils are being looked upon as victims by the international community. Even if Gota comes to power, he cannot do what he did in the past, especially to Tamils. It is strategically better for Tamils to put Gota & Co at loggerheads with international community. They cannot go against international community anymore and will be made to carry out the process of reconciliation or else face the music. Kamal Gunaratne and others will be reduced to dogs with their tails tucked between their legs.

If Tamils want to abstain, that too is their democratic right but don’t complain later, this is the same thing Gota wants and this is something that was tested.
Remember Prabakaran forcing Tamils to sit out to make MR President. What happened to Tamils and the fate of Prabakaran and family is history.

But Jews have turned him into Catholic through covert operation with a help of Catholic woman named Sananayake.
Jews have been practicing conspiracy against Sinhalese Buddhists just same as Portuguese and British did.

We need to get together and prepare global military movement meet this never ending global Jews conspiracy. At the same time, finally start training Sinhalese Buddhists and bring them into power. Sinhalese Buddhists wrongly gave privileges to Christian who faked themselves as Buddhists.
Today, you can see the consensuses of appointing fake Buddhists.
And if pramadasa come to power, Jews and other Western spies will have full espionage link to him .

Please discuss these matters seriously and take action/

        Dear Native,

Did you watch JVP ADK’s Launch Speech?.
Man.. That was an A grade Demolition of Dr Ranil and Mr Ravi just before Dr Ranil mounted the platform to give Keselwatta Kid an A List UNP ..Plug..

Wonder whether that prompted Keselwatta Kid to swear to the mammoth UNP crowd that He won’t be issuing any Jumpers to anyone during his Rule.

I just read on the Web that Srilanka has one of the highest incidence of Cataract in 60 Plus Age group.
In addition to Jobs for all and sundry along with free Houses, I hope Keselwatta Kid make a promise to give all our Moms and Dads free issue of Sunnies as well with a proper UV protection grading…
Not the Designer ones which Dr Ranil was wearing while mounting the Stage.

He holds a green card, may be an American.

          Gnana,

The way that guy was scanning the crowd clearly indicated that he was part of the security detail. What it says is that Sajith has deployed foreign security specialists. I will leave at that for now.

        Dear Native,

I thought all those burly dudes in Black protecting Dr Ranil were white with the face job like they used to do in Peter Sellers Movies..

BTW , What was going on there with the Field Marshall?.
I heard the Marshall ridiculing Keselwatta Kid to Buggery, only a week or two ago.

May be Keselwatta Kid invited the Marshall for High Tea with Aryawa and showed him the Paper from the London School of Economics.

Native , Do you reckon the Field Marshall has O Levels?…

“Native , Do you reckon the Field Marshall has O Levels?…”

What has OL got to do with his unearned title, Field Marshal?
Just being a Sinhala/Buddhist is the only qualification this racist war criminal needed to join the rest of the goons in the armed forces.
He claims to be a Sinhala/Buddhists and this is what he told the Canadian media ““I strongly believe that this country belongs to the Sinhalese but there are minority communities and we treat them like our people,” he says.
“We being the majority of the country, 75%, we will never give in and we have the right to protect this country.
“We are also a strong nation … They can live in this country with us. But they must not try to, under the pretext of being a minority, demand undue things.””

          National Post · Sept. 23, 2008

Yet the stupid Tamils voted for him in 2010.
          How cool.

Once a racist always a racist.

By the way Keselwatta kid once advised the UNP executive committee that adapting Buhmiputra System of Governance is the best solution for the “Tamil Problem” just as Ronie de Mel advised the parliament immediately after the 1983 pogrom against Tamils.

Now the Kid wants to build 1125 Vihares through out North East. How cool it is.
In the mean time according to government, for various reasons 130 Sinhala/Buddhist Vihares have been closed down in the past few months. Awsome.

Murali is trying to protect his brother from charges emanating from importing illegal substance and distributing it without import license and also his investments in this island. He doesn’t want soma’s goons targeting his family and assets during the next riot.

              Is Sivajilingam campaigning for Gota?

The Tamils and Muslims can survive on their own without any support from the state or respective diaspora as long as they are left in their habitat alone. I don’t think they want to live on handouts/entitlements infinitely, continuously being threatened by the state goons and by Sinhala/Buddhist racist smartass patriots.

I suggest you stop placing bets on candidates.

The choice is clear, whether people want democracy or dictatorial rule by a bunch of family members. Speaking at SLPP election rally at Anuradhapura, Gotabaya declared that on November 17 all military personnel now jailed will be released! Some of those held in prisons are suspects in the abduction and killing of 11 Tamil students in Colombo and suburbs!

I agree that choice between saving the democracy that was gained after several threats and challenges or giving back the country who destroyed the rule of law, justice and freedom of speech.
Gotabaya’s declaration to release all military persons is to show that military will continue to murder as an when he wanted to murder his political enemies, journalists who raise the voice against corruption and dictatorship.

Make no mistake about it, I will do all that I can to stop Gota winning.
    .
But I’d like to do some thinking and make my selection of the person I want as President. All I hear are a lot of platitudes, shouted at the top of a politicians voice. I can mute the sound, but I just can’t stop the video running, and consuming a great deal of the limited data that I have.
    .
I think that I must give Sajitha Preference vote, but I must vote first for a guy who cares for what I am, and allows me to work things out for myself. The JVP, may be, and the Alternatives – since it is said that Nagananda is pressing on with support from a yet unnamed candidated.

Well, the video has stopped running now. that’s a positive – they at least listen to us.
        .
I understand that Nagananda will team up with the environmentalist, the only woman in the list of candidates, Dr Ajantha Perera. Nagananda is an honest man, who will poll a hundred thousand votes. He’s been insisting that those collaborating with him declare that they will work to limit membership of the legislature (i.e. Parliament) to two terms. Much too rigid he is – although admirable in most respects.
        .
Let’s hope that these Alternatives all band together about two weeks from now and do the common-sense thing of working together.

      Dear Gemini,
      .
I’m bemused by your statement. Are you afraid that Sajith will end up third? The rational thing to do if you feel the way you do, is to give the JVP your FIRST vote, and Sajith your Second or Third.
      .
If Gota is going to get 50% without our vote, we can’t stop him.
      .
There is one fallacy in my argument. We may split the FIRST vote between Sajith and AKD, and not nearly enough voters may have cast Preferential votes to catch up with Gota. What do we do if we find AKD doing really well, and that people have begun to see through the Rajapaksas?
      .
It may well be that there are other fallacies lurking in my argument.
      .
Have you, incidentally, seen this fine article by a relatively young man? I’m discovering all the time that we have talent that we just don’t promote:
      .

This is a time at which lots of us are listening. Let me hope that all of us actually do things as Dr Ruvan Weerasinghe is saying that we must.

      • 6
        0

        Dear Sinhala_Man
        Actually you are very correct.
The decent peoples votes will get divided between Sajith and AKD.
It is my feeling that Sajith is liked by the rural folk more than they like AKD.
        .
In Kandy and most towns around Kandy there were heavy celebrations when Sajith was declared the candidate for UNP.
        .
To be honest Sajith has actually touched the lives of many many ordinary people all over the country through his development programmes, I guess it’s time they return the favour. Naturally most educated and decent people will also vote for Sajith in my humble opinion. Needless to talk about minorities.
        .
I know one way or another AKD will get lots of votes that would otherwise have gone Sajiths way, hence I think it’s best that one of the two should give way to the other and form an alliance.
        .
JVP is fighting corruption, Sajith is not know to be a corrupt man thus far, so I don’t think AKD would have any qualms teaming up with Sajith for this. AKD came out to contest as a last resort, as, at that time Sajith had not been nominated.
        .
If I could make my stand, I am sure lots of others who despise the Rajapaksa disease would do the same. This time its Sajiths turn.
AKD please support. Lets get out of tyranny, for good.
To help with those conniving, thieving, murdering, psychopathic, shameless, uneducated, crass, cheap, racist and greedy monsters.
They should be defeated and punished for high crimes against our people, for polarising our people against each other after such a devastating war. For selling our country’s prime resources to China, hedging fraud, murdering those that dared speak, for the Walikada prison massacre…the list is endless.
They should be brought to justice for using propaganda to mislead our own Sinhalese people and corrupting their minds using all sorts of tactics.

          Dear Gemini Cricket,
          .
Thanks for being so civilised. Polite language as used by you is rare nowadays.
          .
Having said that, however, I must state that you tend to see the complex as being much simpler than it actually is. Many think of Sri Lanka as a “small country” – but 15 million voters – that in a more personal sense is mind-boggling, isn’t it? How do we get so many people to act in concert?
          .
Understanding how preference Voting works is proving very difficult for most CT voters to understand:
          .
          https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/immature-opposition-to-second-preference-voting/comment-page-1/#comments
          .
This article, plus all the comments and links, is possibly the widest discussion of the subject, and just see how much confusion there seems to be about the Preferential System itself. I’m not confused. I knew it was there in 1982, and I have voted as such in every election except one: 2015. I voted only for My3 then, and am very sorry to see this man now degenerate into a pathetic creature.
          .
The system is such that if more people disapprove than approve of Gota, and if all voters are aware of how to defeat him, then Gota will lose in a perfect world. Sajith and AKD can both contest. If all Sajith voters indicate AKD as SECOND or THIRD Preference, and AKD’s voters vice-versa for Sajith then there is no split in the vote.
          .
But voters just don’t understand – it may be because they are not sufficiently concerned. Such indifference also is a factor that must be taken into account.
          .
We could continue this discussion, but probably below Prof. David’s article. Here it would be considered “off topic”.

          .

          Gemini Cricket ,

Giving a helping hand to someone you like is one thing and
vouching for him is another thing . Sajith is in the company of
corrupt men like R K and you find R K was a speaker at Galle
Face rally ! Only a selected few made speeches . You can not an
honest guy and sit with bad ones ! What is true is we are not left
with any other choice but to go with the best among the worst !
What Sajith seems to understand best is , corruption is part of
our life and there could be only a little anyone can do about it .

It is the UNP that governs the country today; all speakers are cabinet ministers and non of them said what they had done for the country for the last 4-5 years. Instead, they were criticizing the Rajapaksas as if this rally was held prior to January 08, 2015.
Sajit Premadas gave a whole big list of promises but he is a cabinet minister of the current government and has done nothing much to alleviate the suffering of the averages people. His housing policy is nothing but a disaster. We all know that; If the Treasury provides money who can not build houses! And such housing projects are just for ‘their’ people and not for the average poor. Nobody knows how he chooses the people to receive these houses that he builds with taxpayers’ money. Isn’t he discriminating one against the other!
Sajit’s long list of promises is full of contradictions. While the current Finance Minister says that Treasury has no money to dole out for welfare programs, he makes a ton of welfare promises and the sensible people know that they are just empty promises. About his IT and development promises the only point I can make is that he doesn’t know what he is talking about.
At least can one of the speakers tell us how they generate money to keep those promises without asking this poverty stricken nation to tighten her belts.

It is going to cost a lot to UNP and SLPP to bus in supporters to Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Puthikudierruppu. Lots of income for local inns and food parcel makers. All hotels will be full and lots of security forces. Wonder when TNA is going to cast their ballot and to whom.

TNA is in a quandary. Last time they told the people to vote for Sirisena saying that they have come to a verbal understanding with that party for solving Tamil demands. What happened in the last five years is disappointing. How can they say that again when Sajith had categorically stated that he will not have conditions imposed on him and that he will not agree for anything that will jeopardize his chances with Sinhala electorate. Will UNP change its stand and issue in its manifesto a plan acceptable to Tamils of solving their demands. TNA may go with India in supporting the candidate of their choice concocting reasons for that decision, but will ordinary Tamils will trust them, after being betrayed once.

Why don’t we think of this “Election” on Nov. 16th , the whole purpose of which is to elect “THE HEAD OF THE STATE” and not a “Government”. This position of “President” is the only OFFICE, we have to be the “Check and Balance” tool of the Government. The powers are not that of an “Executive President”; but sadly mistaken it to be. In my opinion, the VOTER must consider who is the “STRONGEST” , in that, this term must neither be confused with “Dictatorial” NOR “Submissive” types. Here the type “STRONG” must be in character of “Honesty”; “Integrity” ; “Industrious”; “Leadership” a proven “Track Record” in Governmental Affairs( in relation to economics, social and political) and most importantly”Visionary”. Now, if I am to apply this “Criteria” or “Yardstick” in the selection a man/woman for this “SINGLE” position of President, out of all the 35 candidates, my choice would be none other than Anura Kumara Dissanayake nominated by Podu Jana Viyaparaya. That is my trend of thinking of selection of a “PRESIDENT”.

The crowd carries home not Sajith but Sarath Fonseka ! U N P’s answer
for country’s security . It looks My3’s scientific cabinet is already taking
shape ! At this rate , Ranil will be Bond minister and Mangala the
minister of panties while Arjuna the minister of cricket ! I do like Sajith ,
not because he is the man , but the only alternative after A K D . We don’t
want to hear one and the same thing for nearly five years on TV , social
media and other medias . All three main contestants waste money and
time on public rallies while almost all households have T V and other
means . Four elections within five years and how much money and time
wasted for begging votes ? All are talking about a change but it is these
talkers who need to change first of all ! Why are this much of people
drafted in to Colombo to listen to hopeless brags ?

If I do have the time, I too would go for one of these so called meetings, just to entertain myself. It is a pity that the current voting laws do not permit the option of none of the above candidates. In jurisdictions that permit it, if the none of the above hits a mark of 50% or more there has to be a re-poll where the current nominees become ineligible for nomination in the re-poll. My conscience does not permit me to vote for anybody who has likelihood of being a murderer of the opponents.

Are you saying that All these People who attend These so-called Meetings, are Unemployed, or have Nothing Better to do?

My guess is Sajith will easily win. 1. promising to appoint SF the defense minister. 2. It is natural that every ordinary men and women want someone from them to become the prez. SP is targeting on that 3. His age 4. UNP’s unity at least now

As long as Sajith is surrounded by Maangala, Ranil and Co. then he is no one.

One cannot come to concrete conclusions based on attendance at Political meetings (recall the crowds at MR meetings in 2014? (mostly brought in with inducements using the money robbed from public coffers?) – but he did not win). So please do not fall into false complacency just by seeing the crowd.

Here is a guide on how to vote: think back on how the country was governed during 2010 to 2014 and compare that against how it was governed during 2015 to 2019 (the difference is quite a contrast). Decide then on your own preference of governance. If you wish for the 2010 to 2014 style (white van, rampant/unchecked bribery and corruption, autocratic, dictatorial, FAMILY RULE culture – dark era) vote for NGR. If you prefer the 2015 to 2019 style (freedom of expression (RTI Act) and democracy to flourish (Independent Commissions) including judicial independence), vote for SP. It’s that simple as realistically only one of those two will be President elect on Nov 17, 2019. If your preference is to vote for anyone other than these two, indicate in your ballot paper, who your second preference would be (preferably out of the two main contenders). Then you can be rest assured that your vote will be counted in determining your next President.

Sri Lanka belongs to ALL communities who legitimately call themselves Sri Lankans. There are those who are nationalist minded (that is their right to have such a mind set) and wish and want SL to belong to Sinhala Buddhists only. There are those who would capitalise on those sentiments (MR &Co) for their own selfish political and personal gain. It’s clear NGR and his Group is attempting to play this racist card at this election to further their own political ambitions for selfish motives (e.g. avoid facing courts and being convicted). Voters, please vote sensibly, putting the Country before Self!

Most voters will feel like the man who walks into a brothel and is asked to make a selection by the madame who shows him 35 sex workers. Some of them are afflicted with STDs, some are lady-boys, some are actually virgins but have no experience at all, while the rest are as ugly as sin! This is the dilemma facing the Sri Lankan voter at this presidential election.

Aaaah! nothing like the voice of experience.

‘some are actually virgins but have no experience at all’ lucky is the customer who finds that out’.

      A truly lucky Estate Labourer.

Looks that this will be good fight but there is no certainty who will come out a winner.

The Great Enforcer or the Great Deliberator? Time will tell.

As a post-script, could we take the mass unwashed somewhere else please. These mass gatherings are shitting Galle Face Green leaving a boggy morass for the citizens of the City to endure not enjoy. There are plenty of other places available around the city.

      Spring Koha ,

We have a Gall Face but no Green ! Yesterday , it was U N P opening
rally of massive crowd and today S L P P match it with a mini
election win and without fuss . If I was the one who organised this
Galle Face rally , I would have taken this mini election into account
and made it after the election ! And the most updated court
decisions come one after the other giving G R a boost . MARA knows
how to turn every single incident into a massive psychology !
Election commissioner was wrong to hold a mini election at this
crucial point of time knowing very well that the council was a strong
hold of one presidential contender .

Unfortunately, the euphoria could not be translated into votes in Elpitiya with a historic low at 24%. I hear Vauxhall street is not so upbeat………………
