Sanjaya Senavirathna’s Exhibition At Paradise Road Galleries

This June will be the fifth exhibition Senavirathna has staged with Paradise Road Galeries. Senavirathna was born in Kandy and graduated from the University of Visual and Performing Arts in 2008. One year prior to this his work was featured in a group show at the Noble Sage art gallery in London; he continues to be represented by the Noble Sage in London to-date.

Senavirathna presents a refreshing contrast to the politics that continue to influence artists in today’s post-war contemporary art scene. His work has always focused on the themes of love and happiness. Quite simply his abstract colour compositions emulate happiness, fun and light-heartedness. At a time where many contemporary artists from Sri Lanka choose to follow the more common themes of aggression and identity crises this artists work juxtaposes itself with these themes, a strong statement of identity on it’s own.

In this, his latest series of works, Senavirathna has subdued his colour palette, still his graffiti abstract colours and patchworks remain. They seem the gradual evolution to minimalism that is often the path of artists at this point in their career. The exhibition opens on 4 June at 6pm and will remain open to the public daily from 10 am to midnight daily.
