Field Marshal and Minister of Regional Development Sarath Fonseka today joined the United National Party (UNP) and was appointed as the party’s chief organizer for Kelaniya.
Prime Minister and leader of the UNP, Ranil Wickremesinghe handed over Fonseka’s letter of appointment at the auspicious time of 11.39 am today at Sirikotha.
Several members of the Democratic Party, which was led by Fonseka also accepted membership of the UNP today.
Fonseka who was appointed as a Minister in February has come under severe criticism in the recent past for accepting a government allocation of Rs. 70 million to purchase a luxury vehicle for himself.
