Singh Will Not Sing At CHOGM!

By Sharmini Serasinghe

Sharmini Serasinghe

So the Injun PM is not coming after all! No surprises in that, given the racket Tamil Nadu has been making in the recent past over him attending/not attending CHOGM in Colombo.

Just imagine our poor Emperor hopping mad; pulling his jet-black tinted hair and moustache, seething with fury over the snub. After all what can he do, short of dragging the Injun PM by his turban or beard to Colombo?

However horrible our Emperor is to us when these Injun types try to mess around with him, we must back our man, no? Poor guy, I think he was planning to impress the Injun PM amongst other things, with his beautiful and clean Colombo compared with dusty, dirty and polluted New Delhi. After all that vacuuming and dusting brother Gota had to do, what a waste of an effort!

At least we the humble peasants can enjoy Gota’s hard work; nice pavements, gardens, fountains and all that.

You know, I think this whole business of the Turban-Man not coming because of the din Tamil Nadu is making is all a humbug. You see, this big commotion about us violating Human Rights and all that during the final stages of the war, is all because of the Injuns, no?

If they hadn’t trained and armed Prabha and his morons in their backyard all those years ago, then all those innocent civilians under whose ‘reddhas’ the tigers were hiding during the final stages of war would still be alive. So logically it is the Injuns who have violated Human Rights in Sri Lanka, not us!

However, this latest development about the Turban-Man not coming is creating a lot of interest for observers like us.

The prestigious Indian newspaper ‘The Hindu’ of 10th November carried a cracker piece titled “PM to skip CHOGM”. After citing a lot of bla, bla, bla as to why he’s not coming, it quotes Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin as having dished out some ridiculous justification including “ever since India joined the Commonwealth, no Indian Prime Minister had attended more than two summits staged abroad. As Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh had participated in the Kampala (2007) and Port of Spain (2009) CHOGMs”. Honestly, couldn’t they have come with something a little more convincing?

Some unnamed Diplomats are also quoted as having uttered some similar garbage.

Might I ask these guys what significance Kampala and Port of Spain hold for India regards foreign policy over neighbouring Sri Lanka?

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, is coming instead to represent India at CHOGM. It would be better if India keeps him back too and some ‘parippu’ dropped instead like in June 1987. At least we could feed our visitors with it!

As hard as it is to admit at this juncture, of all the countries in the Commonwealth, India possibly represents the strongest manifestation of its ideals, thus the greatest weight of the organisation. Therefore the absence of its Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, from the Colombo meeting delivers a sharp blow not only to Sri Lanka but to CHOGM as a whole. The summit would have held greater political significance for Sri Lanka with the Indian Prime Minister present!

Our Emperor should have seen this coming. India is currently more concerned with its own backyard politics. For Manmohan Singh and the Congress, a tough election in 2014 and keeping prospective alliance partners happy are of greater significance than keeping neighbours happy. So if Tamil Nadu tells the PM “you can’t go” then he can’t go!

Perhaps the greatest letdown of all by India is that of Sri Lanka’s Northern Province Chief-Minster C. V. Wigneswaran who had invited the Indian Prime Minister to visit Jaffna while in Sri Lanka.

Sharmini enters unfamiliar territory and totally misreads the plot. Indians are no fools. The King thought he can fool all the people all the time. One day it is 13+ the next day 13- and then no 13 at all. Not that the Tamil Nation is overjoyed with the 13th Amendment. But the reality is that is not the behaviour of leaders of countries. Dealing with underworld gangsters, drug traffickers and world leaders are two entirely different things.

India, once more too often, seems to have chosen the path of conveying to the Oligarchy if they don’t honour their word and commitments, there will be a price to pay in the international arena. This is clearly the language of the UN and the global community too. As a Lankan I don’t feel happy about this. But the Rajapakses are letting all of us down all too often.

A good laugh Sharmini – keep it coming!
NDTV which is very close to the GoI clearly stated that the military occupation of Jaffna and the failure to return lands to civilians was the reason that Singh would not sing in Lanka! After the NPC elections the brutal Colombo regime started demolishing houses in the Pallaly area to build Military hotels, residencies etc. and Rajapassa ruled out demilitarization. So this is the reason for the Indian Boycott of CHOGM circus – which is a stinging slap in Rajapassa’s face as well as for the Brits and Prince Charles who is celebrating his 65th birthday in the post-colony/ banana republic.

Recall that India was The JEWEL IN THE CROWN of the long dead British empire! Arguably, the most important and certainly the largest member of the Commonwealth of Nations, Lanka’s closest neighbor, INDIA, which could TAKE OUT Rajapassa and take over the island in a wink of an eye, despite all the Chinese investment if push came to shove. In this case Geography is destiny – like it or not!
At the CHOGM opening ceremony at the Chinese Pond (Nelum Pokuna) where creativity is censored and UN-creative state PROPAGANDA passes for “culture”, which has in fact has been killed by the brutal, uneducated and UNCULTURED Casino and gyrating dancing girls loving Rajapassa regime of Sri Lanka, the CHOGM circus will start with the address of 2 EMPERORS WITHOUT CLOTHS: Prince Charles who represents a long dead in the water British Empire and Mahinda Rajapassa the wanna-be Emperor of Sri Lanka. CHOGM in Colombo is to be a coming out or “arrival” party to TRUMPET (as the shameless Kili Maharaja TV and Radio channels have) the triumphalist MILITARY DICTATORSHIP of the Rajapassa brothers. This along with Charles’ British colonialism celebration party will show the hapless Sinhalaya Modayas, Rajapassa’s vote bank, how great their Emperor is in the world!
As far as the rest of the world is concerned the CHOGM circus is a totally unnecessary waste of time and money. The Commonwealth of Clowns morphed into a platform for third world dictators should be SHUT DOWN and buried with the BRITISH EMPIRE! Canada and India have done the right thing and one hopes others will follow their BOYCOTT!

Ms. Sharmini Just Yanna aney yanna. You are lying.
You dont know when our king becomes the president of CHOGM in few days Mr Singh will have to dance according to his majesty’s tune.
Our emperor already mentioned to few of ministers that he is the one who would choose the next Monarch in England should anything happen to the late Diana’s Mom in LOW.
So our king going to be a world leader. Me, my cousin the other Fukushima and the likes will make a good propaganda work to show the Sri lankan foolish public that Mr mahinda is the most powerful leader in the world. They will believe anything we say.
No one can touch or blame our emperor when is the boss CHOGM. Mr Ranil who always obey and respect democracy, law and order will never blame our king again for another two years from now onwards. That will be more than enough for us to make Mr. mahinda elected again with the help of Mr. Sajith, Mr. Sarath N Silva, Mr. Mohan Peries, Ms. Shirani Booran, Mr. Gnanasara, Mr. Rathana, Ven Sobitha, Ven. Champika, Ven Aswer, Ven Faiser Mustapa, Rev Douglus Devananda etc.

For our king its a piece of cake to play with or fool even to buy Mr. Kamalish Sharma, Mr Cameron, Mr Abbot so on.

Nothing to do with TN politics.

Lets face it. Sonia was sucking up to MR, untill he delivered Praba’s head on a plate,

While reflecting contemporary views and very appropriate, I thought that this is an uncharacteristically and unwarrantedly jocular piece of writing by Ms Serasinghe.

The choice of words and phrases (e.g. “Injun”) can be taken to be a little offensive to India and the reference to MR’s tinted hair a little personal perhaps? I thought this is not becoming of a person of Ms Serasinghe’s stature.

A good analytical piece need not be laced with such flippancy and the writer is urged to reflect on this.

Having said all that, I do enjoy her points of view expressed here and in other fora,

      Hiri Kiththa,

If you have read this writer’s articles in the Daily Mirror some years ago, you will know her choice of words such as “Injun” are meant precisely to offend India.

Further, she has the ability to change her style of writing to suit the subject, serious, sarcastic etc.

This is an art every writer is not capable of.

One thing you should know clearly is that Wigneswaran did not invite the Indian PM to Jaffna at the time of his coming for CHOGM. It was an open invitation with no time frame. So you should not confuse your readers.

Wigneswaran invited the Indian PM to visit Jaffna in the context of CHOGM.

Further, the Indian PM is not given to spending his holidays in Sri Lanka, so do you think Wigneswaran expected him to visit Jaffna as a tourist?

According to you Wigneswaran didn’t invite the Indian PM to visit Jaffna in the context of CHOGM.

In that case, when exactly did he expect MM Singh to visit Jaffna?

Since you appear to be such a Pundit on everything Wigneswaran says, means and does you should have the answer to my question as well.

By not sending their Prime Ministers, India and Canada are sending a message to the Commonwealth. India and Canada will not lose one iota of standing in the wider world; and it is for the GOSL to reflect on the message we have received. I fear that the thick-skins of the regime will go into denial, and the show will go on. The GOSL has all the cards; we decide the agenda, the questions to be asked and, yes, even the menus for the numerous feasts, and the choreography for the suggestive dance routines. The foreign media are all welcomed but will be kept at a safe distance in order to avoid them polluting the fragrant gathering. Selected safe questioners wll be trotted out to ask questions at the press conferences and complete the charade. Most of us will be kept at a sanitising distance from the action but pictures of Mahinda and his band of merry men will be beamed into each and every Sri Lankan home and our fellow citizens will marvel at our all conquering ‘king’. First he defeats the Evil in the North, now he has powerful foreigners applauding his every word. We are truly a blessed people! This hugely stage-managed event will be declared a ‘resounding success’ and the visitors will go home well-fed and entertained, bleating, through beaming smiles, of our generous Sri Lankan hospitality. And next Sunday, at a village ‘pola’ not a million miles away, a grim-faced woman will bargain hard for a tomato, two carrots and a coconut to feed her family; and so life will go on in our miracle of Asia.

Instead of sending us messages if they could curb terrorists regrouping in their soil and keep their poachers (fishermen) at bay, that would help immensely for us to solve our own problems.

Canadian dollars helped terrorize this country for so many years and it was India that trained LTTE in the 80s. Even today Indian poachers are stealing the catch of Northern fishermen. How despicable for a country that large to steal from a smaller country. Canadian ban on LTTE is in name only. LTTE flags fly freely in that country whenever and wherever LTTE wants them.

I do not believe neither one of those countries are in any position to assume a moral high ground over Sri Lanka.

Let’s check out what young Navin says.
First we make some of our citizens second-class, then we beat up their men, rape their women, burn their homes. And when they runaway to some alien foreign sanctuary, work hard, and send some money back to help those left behind to fight for justice, we blame the foreigners currency and we blame their government for asking questions. Moral high ground? What shit is that? As a citizen all I ask that our Tamil brethren, and others (Sinhalese, Muslim, Burgher…) are allowed to speak freely and without fear of getting a bullet or being taken away for questioning and ‘rehabilitation’. And when we have that, I, indeed all of us will be able to stand tall and tell the foreigners to bugger off and mind their business.

and send some money back to help those left behind to fight for justice we blame the foreigners …

          —-

oh I see your point. “Send some money to fight for justice….” We have seen the kind of “some” money they sent and how they used that money to fight for justice for 3 decades and still you justify that. You are despicable.

        Navin@,
that is not right to accuse them of having helped the LTTErs. Canada,Australia, Germany, France, Scandinavians gave them refuge recognizing their ethnic problem. In Germany, France and other european countries, there is no room for them or others to actively take part in terror activities. But I believe the funds that they contributed (by will or by force) to the LTTE regularly DID strengthen their hands. These are not separate funds provided by those govts, but social funds they as refugees are entitled while claiming asylum. Depending on the size of the family, a single refuge family is offered very less to survive in the mentioned countries. But tamils remain as tamils where they have been. This is common to them. In Switzerland, they have been partly isolated. So is the case in some parts of Germany and France. Anyway, longer they stay on such funds, their tiny contributions seem to have enriched the LTTE. In terms of India this could be changed, because in TN govt per se gave them trainings. Be it for tamils refugees, Kurd refugees, Syrian refugees, law is equal when living on the west.

        Navin ,

consider MR to be very lucky to have Aus,NZ and UK PMs presence in SL , simply the reason being MR is having a bargain power on vital issues which are extremely important to them ( Aus- Boat people , NZ- Fontera & UN vote and UK – Royal Royce deal ). say these 3 PMs don’t show up for the carnival , wouldn’t you accuse them being LTTE sympathizers and hypocrites ? do you think Canada is boycotting the summit due to poor human right record ? no , truth of the matter is MR did not have any thing to bargain on Canadian PM , you guys just repeating what the regime says ….

        • 0
          0

Is it MR’s fault that he does not having anything to bargain with Canadian PM?

We should not shy away from hosting a summit in fear of Tamil Diaspora. If we are going to shy away at every turn what is next?

To host or not to host the summit should have been thought through carefully and I’m sure they did that much before making that decision — for now, things seem to be going fairly OK. Only the Canadian PM made a huge noise but his mistake was to make too much which made it known to everyone what his game was. Besides when US allies talk about human rights while Iraq and Afghanistan are burning elsewhere in the world only the hypocrites will take them seriously. Canada’s support for Israel is too well known. MMS keeping away again, India has not made a big fuss and in fact if not for India’s help we would not be having this summit here today. Now I here that Mauritius PM is also keeping away but then we do not plan to buy sugarcane from them anytime in the near future right?

We being a small country should not be perturbed by insults of this nature. These are bound to come. What is most important is that today we are free of LTTE. Now we have space to develop our country and there too MR is doing more than any government has done in the recent past. Forget about insults from India/Canada. Lets get whatever help we can get from both India/China and Canada and develop our infrastructure and industries going.

Yes there are kick backs all the ills that everyone is talking about but those are much harder to get rid of than LTTE. I don’t care if MR and his government were siphons off 30% of this country’s wealth if they give back the remaining 70%. There is no other leader in sight who will do any better.

Your problem is not about human rights or rights of Tamils. I’m 100% sure your problem is a blue/green problem which is pathetic to say the least. Anyways, that’s your problem and I feel sorry for you.

            My friend Navin ,

“Is it MR’s fault that he does not having anything to bargain with Canadian PM?”

why are you so defensive ? who do you try to protect so desperately ? if you had read my comment carefully , you wouldn’t have come up with a such a silly counter argument! my whole point was , west is least concern of our HR issues and it is being used as a weapon to manipulate whenever suits them , read it over then you will see where am i coming from!

“We should not shy away from hosting a summit in fear of Tamil Diaspora. If we are going to shy away at every turn what is next? “

Again , this is the typical regime backers scape goat , for heaven’s sake shall we forget LTTE and international conspiracy theories for a moment , tell me honestly , who is going to get the maximum benefit out of this mega circus ? do you think ordinary citizens going to be well off after the circus ? oh I know , you guys are armed with ready made answers , such as , all these infrastructure improvements are for citizens to enjoy , no body is going to take away after the circus etc etc , remember the IIFA circus ? regime backers came up with exactly the same silly arguments that time too , we were told hosting such an extravagance would attract immediate/long term investments and we were extremely lucky to be given the opportunity to show case our selves ! well , pray tell me the number of investments which we had as a direct result of the IIFA ? I can tell you this , there were two hotels suing for non payment and a super luxury train ( Katunayake to Colombo ) is being idled ever since ! who did benefit /humiliate at the end of the day ? pl do a little research and find out the consequences of hosting such mega white elephant projects on borrowed money ! it’s little too early to predict the number of potential business opportunities , but for sure James Packer’s casino would be there .

“To host or not to host the summit should have been thought through carefully and I’m sure they did that much before making that decision — for now, things seem to be going fairly OK.”

Oh yes , I’m sure decision makers must have gone 1000 times evaluating each scenarios and carefully considering the implications on our fragile economy , take my word , CMC will be the first victim and that Mayer Muzmmil will be forced to leave !
Truth of the matter , our king’s international image is on par with Mugabe, Commodore Vorege Bainimarama . Alexander Lukashenko, Nursultan Nazarbayev et al and desperate for any international event to do a quick cosmetic surgery.

“India has not made a big fuss and in fact if not for India’s help we would not be having this summit here today.”

Thank you very much for being honest on this particular point.

“Now I here that Mauritius PM is also keeping away but then we do not plan to buy sugarcane from them anytime in the near future right?”

How convenient! Who ever oppose our great king, there is always an element to attack, sugar cane eh ? I’m glad that you didn’t bring up that “ kokatah theeilaya “ LTTE and western conspiracy theory here ….

“We being a small country should not be perturbed by insults of this nature. These are bound to come. “

So according to you , being a small country and getting rid of LTTE menace is the root cause of all these insults ? you got long way to go my friend …….

“I don’t care if MR and his government were siphons off 30% of this country’s wealth if they give back the remaining 70%. There is no other leader in sight who will do any better.”

Above statement sums up every thing about who you are Navin , makes me wonder are you that Navin Dissanayake !!!!! jokes apart ,what made you think that magical number is 30% , are sure about it ? so you have scant regards for deteriorating law & order , unprecedented nepotism , fragile economy , international isolation , promotion of casinos , selling ( oops 99 lease)the prime lands to foreigners , destroying the education , eliminating descents , muzzling free press , 18 th amendment , illegal impeachment of CJ , appointing of MP as CJ , sky rocketing inflation , dying health care system , ever increasing budget deficit , white elephant mega projects ( Mihin air , Sooriya wava cricket stadium , MR sea port , MR air port etc ) , commercial rate borrowing , trading opposition MPs , flourishing illicit drugs & alcohols and raping our constitution in broad day light etc are least concerned issues ,according to your analysis there is no any other potential leader among 21 million of us , hence its ok to put up with current lot !!!!!!! sadly this is the bitter truth , Regime and its propaganda are very successful in creating a myth among poor srilankans , MR is the only savior and the messiah who can deliver the goods and keep SL as a one country and every one else working towards either LTTE interests or western governments agendas and inevitably they will divide the country ! am I right Navin ?

“Your problem is not about human rights or rights of Tamils. I’m 100% sure your problem is a blue/green problem which is pathetic to say the least. “

Jolly good Navin , you committed yourself by exposing your utter stupidity , I’m surprised why you never bothered to sugar cane eh accuse me being a LTTE supporter or NGO kakka , stereo types always tend to look at things on their own imaginary , illusional yard sticks .i will state this for the record and don’t expect you to believe . I don’t trust a single politician and have no faith in any political party , in fact all of them are opportunists and eagerly waiting for their turn to continue in looting , however I’m for a better /fair system where least corruption can takes place , in other words I’m for abolishing the current dictatorial executive presidential system and will help in any way I can , my wish is for Ven Sobitha thero to come forward and save our motherland from power greedy Green/Blue/Red/Orange vultures.

“Anyways, that’s your problem and I feel sorry for you.”

Pl don’t feel sorry for me , feel sorry for your loved ones and their future generations , if possible try to come out from your” well in the frog” mentality to see the out side world.

The TV broadcasts of Channel 4 or view the videos related to the meeting of the Heads of Governments of the Commonwealth of Nations that was aired by Channel 4. The fist video is an interview with Kamalesh Sharma – The Secretary General of the Commonwealth & the 2nd is related to the holding of the “MEET’ in Sri Lanka on 15th November 2013. The videos reveal mostly everything & it is for you to evaluate the pros & cons of the arguments presented in them & conclude what is really going on & who is who are really sincere in observing the noble values of Human Rights & the Rule of Law for good governance. Hello Sharmini,

No matter what you say, I will go with the age old adage, ‘better the devil than the unknown angel’.

Sri Lankans are not an easy lot to govern. You know that already. Our leadership are equally reprehensible. Tell me one good leader we had since independence. Either they were top class manipulators, corrupt to the core or utterly inept. MR and co are heaps better than most of their predecessors, at least they have a method to their madness.

Do we have a viable alternative? UNP are clumsy and ineffective. The JVP, hmmm you do not want to go there. Given the latent barbarity of our comrades it is a distinct possibility that a Pol Pot may re-emerge. TNA – well they are just wallowing in their own sorrows and looking for hand outs. So in the absence of a viable alternative, let us get on with it.

Whether Mr Singh sings or not is not of any material benefit to the ordinary man. The sooner the CHOGM carnival is done and dusted the sooner we can get on with our daily lives.

What has happened to the Burghur looking ( in her own words, sometimes back) Ms Serasinghe?.

Is Ms S trying hard to identify with our ordinary punters calling her self peasant class?,

Obviously Ms S hasn’t watched the Video of the TNGTE PM Mr Rudrakumaran’s latest interview with that Indian journo.

PM Rudrakumaran , who now even calls the Naduans his own kith and kin,has 95% of the Tamil Naduans behind him.including the Brahamin CM.

PM Harper from Ms S’s camp cowed to PM Rudra and his 300,000 LTTE supporting Diaspora in Toronto although some of them don’t even have a vote.

How can Singh ignore his handlers in the Congress , when Nadu has 70 Million and most of whom have been converted to Praba and his Separate Eelaam.

And the fifth of the Congress members who now automatically will be in the Vaiko Camo with the Diaspora PM.

Our Prez is a magnanimous person who even took LTTE seniors into his fold after they realized the folly of Praba and renounced Terrorism.

He certainly know the terrible position, or a one may say rather pathetic situation that this PM has been forced into..

As a dear friend of his,our Prez will never do anything to embarrass Dr Singh, especially among the Diaspora and its Western backers.

So Ms T , sorry Ms S has nothing to worry about or no need to pretend that she is one of our inhabitants.

India’s early support for Tamil militancy did not happen in a vacuum, but was based on multiple factors, including Indira Gandhi’s distaste for JRJ and his tilt toward the US, as well as the pogroms against Tamils under JRJ/UNP regimes that happened starting in 1977, causing a refugee influx into India. The refugees issue gave the Indians a legitimate interest and a cover to interfere in the internal affairs of SL.

Though it is understandable for UNP supporters to have amnesia about the state-sponsored violence directed against Tamils in those years, it is silly to pass the totality of the blame for the LTTE’s rise to India.

As if to make up for their early support for the LTTE, the Indians gave covert and overt support to Sri Lanka during and in the aftermath of the war to crush the LTTE.

“Perhaps the greatest letdown of all by India is that of Sri Lanka’s Northern Province Chief-Minster C. V. Wigneswaran who had invited the Indian Prime Minister to visit Jaffna while in Sri Lanka.”

Much is being made about Justice W.’s ceremonial invitation to the Indian PM. There will soon be an election in India; it may be more advantageous to the NPC, for a new Indian PM untainted by any collusion in mass scale atrocities in the Vanni to visit Jaffna.

Here she is again – inserting little jocularities and the odd offensive personal remark – possibly thinking that this is the forum of the giggling housewives. Far from it – you must be the most juvenile and inane ‘journalist’ allowed to ramble on about nothing in what was considered a thinking person’s site.

Do read other articles and TRY to be balanced and make some attempt to tell us something that you have not picked up by browsing the real media– perhaps that would be too much hard work.

Oh, about the hair dye – clearly that’s your area of expertise. It’s all right, Sharmini – we all know how old you are and how you locks always look immaculate.

    Hi Sharmini

I thought you are smart correspondent and execute in-depth analysis. But my judgment is wrong. The way you wrote about this issue underlines how shallow and one-dimensional person you are about the Indian Ocean and CHOGM. You might have met Abdul Gayoom, Hamid Karzai, and Fakhrudd. That doesn’t mean you are smart. I thought you think critically and write about significant issues, once again I am wrong and that tells you are person just read news. Thus, you failed to develop your won critical thinking. Girl, I tell you, you are too shallow abut critical issues like this.

It is not about Injun PM or poor Emperor or trained and armed Prabha or Turban-Man or din Tamil Nadu. You are just throwing some unnecessary words to make your article attractive. But it looks stupid and unprofessional. Understand the deep roots of this struggle. If I may, please go back to 1956 era. I think person like you (decades of experience) should be more vigilant about deep thinking about real issues. The world largest democracy – Indian PM is not coming to CHOGM with or without internal politics. Never in the history of CHOGM India had boycotted the general meetings. Because of some unprofessional political activities of this small Island’s leaderships, the whole CHOGM is facing gigantic challenge. The all world is finger pointing the CHOGM’s purpose and goal due to this small Island’s HR violation and leadership in CHOGM. Don’t you think the seriousness as neighboring state in particular and the future of CHOGM in general? Do you think China, Pakistan, Iran, Burma, and Ghana will help this country in critical needs? Do you really realize the power of India in the Indian Ocean with or without Tamil Nadu? Do you think without Indian support is it possible for Sri Lanka to move forward in this Indian Ocean for geopolitical and development issues? Read South Asia Geopolitics or write to Prof. Muni, he will educate you.

    Good luck

      Citizen,

“You might have met Abdul Gayoom, Hamid Karzai, and Fakhrudd. That doesn’t mean you are smart”.

You are obviously a keen follower of the writer’s profession. So you must know that she didn’t just “meet” Gayoom, Hamid Karzai, and Fakhruddin Ahmed but interviewed them on TV that was telecast throughout the SAARC region.

Thank God she didn’t “develop” your type of “critical thinking”.

By the way, you are a CITIZEN of where?

      Citizen,

There are two ‘Citizen’s commenting on this thread- one with a brown tile and the other (you) with a gray tile.

While brown-tile-citizen has a good command of the language and expresses him/herself very clearly, you my dear gray-tile-citizen are murdering the Queen’s language like hell. As a result your lengthy comment makes no sense.

Hence it is quite obvious that you have not understood anything of the article you are trying desperately hard to comment on.

Before you advise the writer on being educated by Prof. Muni, you need to be educated in the English language.

As it is clear that Prime Ministers from two largest democratic countries (Canada & India) have boycotted the CHOGM, MR should have resigned if he thinks that he is a Statesman. In addition, two representatives from Australia and New Zealand have been arrested or detained and sent back to their countries, which fact would be brought to the attention of the members of the Commonwealth. When Channel-4 Team can be entertained there is no reason why these two prominent figures be sent to their countries. After all they were collecting some information about human rights violation which also is a subject that would be addressed in this conference. One ponders whether MR intends to have this CHOGM at any cost with the view to boost his election in the next year. But it appears that the Sri Lanka Rupee may become inflated on account of the unwanted expenses incurred in hoisting this CHOGM. He should have never annoyed Canada and India.

Sri Lanka should give prominence to SAARC to try to join ASEAN, APEC etc.. which gives clear business, trade with these giant neighbors.
If Sri Lanka to use SAARC properly we should have access to market size of billion of people.

CHOGM is renewal of the imperial past no emphasis on trade.

Well said Sumith. SL should be getting closer to our immediate neighbours rather than throwing a tamasha for our former colonial masters and their gathering of brown sahibs. There is something fundamentally wrong when I see the mouth watering array of dishes at the banquets we are laying on for these people and then go to the Sunday pola and see an old ammey bargaining hard for a couple of tomatoes and a coconut to give her family a meal. No wonder that we cannot enjoy the peace when the real enemy, the evil twins, injustice and unfairness, stalk our beautiful land.

CW summit is not even known to many other countries in Europe.
Can you imagine ? It is not G8, EU or the like summits.

The tale of innocent civilians suffering in the north of silly lanka does not really start with the injuns turning a blind eye to the training of Praba and his goons in the backyards of Tamil Nadu. This is just passing the rupee no! If only successive govts. paid serious heed to the aspirations of minorities as well, then this whole thing would not have cropped up and spilt over across the seas no! Vote bank politics since independence is the main culprit, dear. Anyway, the city is getting a good facelift, thanks to the cheeno (no more konde bandapu) who will be only too keen to get their foot & body into the lankan door, which the foolish injuns have short-sightedly chosen to ignore. Singh and MaRa are the konde bandapu ones now.

    Sharmini should know that,
INJUNS already sent to Jarpassa Carnival, their bribe man Parippu Sharma and his Chapaathiwalas,
and Sending The other Parippu Salman Khurshid with his Sabjiwalas

    Sharmini says……
If they hadn’t trained and armed Prabha and his morons in their backyard all those years ago, then all those innocent civilians under whose ‘reddhas’ the tigers were hiding during the final stages of war would still be alive. So logically it is the Injuns who have violated Human Rights in Sri Lanka, not us!

Well, if we had not burnt, murdered and raped Tamils with Sinhala only, decade after decade since independence, the Indians would not have the opportunity to train anyone??????????

So stop trying to pass the buck Sharmini………..It stops at the majority Sinhala?buddhist doorstep and not India’s.

What you say is partly true. But training and arming terrorists to solve the problem was not the solution, now was it?

Indira Gandhi had a personal grudge against JRJ and that is why she did what she did. It had nothing to do with the Sinhalese and Tamils raping and murdering each other.

      Dushy,

You are a British citizen, aren’t you?

Well then, you must know that when your forefathers were occupying my country, they gave prominence, pride of place and all the top government jobs to my Tamil brethren in my country- sidelining the Sinhalese entirely.

As a result after independence, we the Sinhalese- the underdogs during British occupation- rose like the Sphinx. Of course crooks like SWRD made capital of the opportunity for personal political gain with his “Sinhala Only” nonsense.

So, since you don’t want to blame India for fanning the flames of fire in my country, perhaps you might find it in your compassionate heart to blame you forefathers- the British!

As a loyal British citizen with a Sinhalese name, you should educate your PM David Cameron that it is the British and no other, who are to blame for Human Rights violations in my country- Sri Lanka.

      Best regards,
      Pedris Appuhamy

        I believe,
had we been there we would not have reacted different to SWRD. You have valid points here that it was the colonial masters should be accountable for many of the racial problems lanken nation faces today. On the other hand, in retrospective, I myself feel, had not ours been a colony, our folks would have remained similar to Ethiopians or far under developed nations on this planet. Meaning nothing else that countries colonized by british are not comparable with countries that have not been under any of the colonial masters.
Looking at the number of countries in Africa, that had been colonized by the French stay darker even in 20th century.

Judging from the Reception given to the ‘Invited’ Channel 4 Members, I would not blame all the ‘HOG’s from pulling out!
What is this Government trying to hide?

The writer displays her stark ignorance and crudeness , by denigrating the Indian PM. Albeit the odd decision of the Indian leader we respect India. This woman’s selection of words seems ‘thupphai’ in character.

Sorry pal this is what u got to pay in the end —- nobody wants to be a terrorist as a matter of fact what do u gain from this BUT WHAT to do if u are pushed to the wall ,last option so to blame the Indian govt for this wrong they did what was right at that time that’s all.
Remember we only got this place to live in if we got another planet then it is a different story so please tell your black mustached boss of your to treat the Tamils well if not all have lot to loose.
According to the former PM of Singapore the man who turned a island of 225 sq miles into a richest nation in the world ,Mr Lee pays importance to the alphabet J — (JEWS,JAPANESE,JAFFNA TAMILS )SO you got the ingredient to be another super power so act wisely good luck.
