Sirisena Asked To Make Mahinda A ‘Lee Kuan Yew’, Chandrika Opposed

According to sources close to President Maithripala Sirisena‘s camp, a secret opinion poll carried out regarding the upcoming General Elections has indicated that the United National Party is poised to win it, with the Mahinda Rajapaksa ‘SLFP Snubs’ group coming second and followed by the Sirisena led coalition third.

In order to prevent this from happening, a high profile team of advisors to President Maithripala Sirisena has proposed a three fold package to deliver a different outcomes from that predicted in the poll.

The three fold package is as follows:

1. To offer former President Mahinda Rajapaksa a high status Eminent Person’s role similar to that enjoyed by the late first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore and former US President Bill Clinton.

2. To appoint MP Namal Rajapaksa as one of the Deputy Presidents of the SLFP.

3. To withdraw all charges against the Rajapaksas and gradually drop them altogether.

However according to sources close to the former President Chandrika Kumaratunga‘s camp, she was not happy with this arrangement. Her supporters are said to be planning to perform bodhi poojas island-wide over a period of ten day to commemorate her 70th birthday which falls on the 29th of June. She was born in 1945.
