Sirisena Is Part Of A Foreign Conspiracy: SLFP

Senior members of the SLFP today said that stalwart Maithripala Sirisena contesting the upcoming Presidential polls as the common candidate against Mahinda Rajapaksa is an outcome of a foreign conspiracy that seeks to destabilize the country politically and establish a puppet regime instead.

During a special media conference that was convened today at the SLFP headquarters a short while ago, government Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said, “There have been certain countries that have pumped money into this scheme through their embassies. We warn them to stop and we will be exposing these forces in the near future.”

He said the actions of former Minister Sirisena is part of a mega teledrama that is being directed by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga under the influence of foreign forces.

Minister Alahapperuma went on to state that voting for the common candidate could pose a grave threat to the country’s national security if parties such as TNA extend their support to the common opposition movement. “The TNA has put forward a set of conditions that they seek to be fulfilled if they are support a presidential candidate and among them is the withdrawal of troops from the North. Therefore, if they decide to support the common candidate, it raises issues of security concerns for Sri Lanka,” he added.

Meanwhile, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that former Minister Sirisena’s crossover is unacceptable as it has been fuelled by personal and not justifiable political reasons. “There are no perfect leaders or political parties. One must know how to survive within a party – our priority should be the party and the party cadres,” he added.
