Sirisena To Appoint New Central Bank Governor

President Maithripala Sirisena today announced that he will appoint a new Governor for Central Bank within the next few hours.

Maithripala Sirisena

Maithripala Sirisena

The announcement comes amidst speculations that the Government was looking at bringing back outgoing Governor Arjuna Mahendran to head the Bank for a second consecutive term.

Meanwhile, a crucial meeting by the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will be held today, to study the Auditor General’s report on the Central Bank bond issue.

The Auditor General’s report will help COPE decide Mahendran’s innocence in the alleged bond scandal.

Mahendran’s term as Governor comes to an end tomorrow, 30th June 2016.

But they still need to clear the name of AM – to put the blame on him alone for all the mess created by politicians – should NOT be accepted by any sane ones.

COPE is made a joke body since that foul mouth high profile corrupted Mahindananda has been appointed to the committee…. May be there are no goodies left… according to them: Srilanka moves backward by some appointments.

That Mahindananda is a disgrace for colombo popular schools. Telling the world that he is coming from a family owned few hundreds of acres in Kandy… is that true ? From his behaviour we can judge that bugger can only be a product on a street corner of Maradana.

Guys, I have no idea about the pedigrees of those thugish charactors.. can anyone of you please add some thoughts about those guys to widen our knoweldge about the men being appointed, accused, convicted as of now.

Not just that, all the billions alleged to have dragged away by Rajaakspkhe goons too should be investigated. Not only their assets but everything should be confiscated once the investigations are done.

Mahindananda is not only a foul mouth but also a criminal , according to his own cousin brother , Mahindanda spreads utter lies about his family wealth , there was no such known valuable property for his family or closed relatives anywhere in SL ; furthermore , Mahindanada had been working as a sales rep for The finance company in Kuliyapitiya area in the late eighties to early nineties . Apparently he just had a GT 100 suzki motor bike , that’s all.
During his tenure in Kuliyapitiya/Kurunegala area he had hooked up with a local lass who used to work for singer show room in Kurunegla , she was drawing a mere three digit salary , that’s all she had .
After getting in to politics , within a very short period of time , Mahindananda became a multi millionaire (US $) , his wealth is beyond our imagination . According to recent reports , he is an owner of multiple prime lands in Colombo and kandy , duty free shops , off shoe bank accounts etc.
CBK must take responsibility for this criminals activity , she was safeguarding Rohitha A (Raththaran) and Mahindanada during her tenure as the president.

“CBK must take responsibility for this criminals activity , she was safeguarding Rohitha A (Raththaran) and Mahindanada during her tenure as the president. “

Its part of socialism – the leech.

CBK has created many a millionaire who live in the outskirts of London eg Surrey. They all entered their high flying british positions of directors affiliated to defense with a chit from her.

              0

Not only CBK any leaders tenure … could help some millionaires to rise up..
CBKs term did not bankrupt SRILANKEN, but DEIVOUS Rajakashes looted the national carrier so that now they have to put end ot Frankfurt and Paris with effect from Nov 2016.

Why not you guys in the same time reveal the degrees of harm being made by MR s brother in law – most abusive play boy nature of the era. He should be beheaded to have wasted high sums.

It is just simple even today, it should be easily pissible to trace how the buggers previous life. Mahindananda or who ever he was – detetives should be hired to investigate.. if STATE bodies still put aside. JVPrs please react accordingly

            1) Go to their former depts. .. making use of the RTI bill, I believe, we can help clarrifying the blatant lies about the properties Mahindananada adds their parents to own for that day on

            2) If the bugger earned Xthousand a month .. from the day he bcame the minister.. upto now.. profesisonals could easily calculate it.. these issues must not stay puzzled…

I have no doubt, Ranajan Ramananayake or thelike could clear this

My problem: In srilanka allegations get collected, not even oppostion politicians may make efforts to prove them going through possible easy channels.
On the west, no a country would stay aside, if allegations are made to someone… clarity is always expected.

          Simon De Silva,

What you say is very true. The COPE and Sirisena are the same setup as MARA and the Inquiry Body who investigated the impeachment against Shirani Bandaranayake-you cannot hope for a worse and idiotic combination! Sira says he will appoint a new governor! What is the significance of this statement? It implies that he has already decided that AM is convicted! The findings of COPE has not yet seen the light of the day! How did such a fool become the president? The bugger issued same kind of statement when this bond scam first broke out too. What can we expect anything other than this type of bullshit from a baiya from rural Polonnaruwa who has been a nobody under SLFP!

But they all said AM would continue if found innocent and removed otherwise. From a man who confiscated Avant Guarde business without any transparency, due process and even without the knowledge of the Parliament anything else cannot be expected.

But my problem is this: what will happen to the credibility and integrity of Sri Lankan government in the eyes of international professionals, investors and governments if they feel AM was wrongly convicted on concocted, very lame and unprofessional and hypothetical charges? Will Sri Lanka be able to attract investors or professionals?

During a recent interview AM has very clearly shed light on the allegations they make specially the interest rate-MARA regime had artificially and by force suppressed the interest rate in order to exhort EPF funds and hard earned deposits of customers; the controlling of the interest rates and the economy by the state is only practiced in autocratic and outdated economies like in Russia; in the modern world and in developed world interest rates are not state controlled but determined by the market factors. This is very true becuase that lunatic MARA exhorted massive amounts of money from bank depositors and EPF contributors by paying us (me included) a meagre interest rate while the inflation rate stayed above the deposit interest rate which effectively meant that the real value of our deposits in the banks were in fact dwindled down with each passing day while inflation kept increasing! Will these fuckers who are barking at AM pay us our lost, deprived and stolen interest amounts? These clownish fuckers must be sued in court of law for conspiring to swindle our hard earned money by colluding with the Central Bank under a new governor.

The COPE is a shameful body of bloody jokers and thieves. Of course there are professional people in it who are not behaving like these idiots but doing their duty. But with people lie Mahindananda and Hundunnetti who will care this COPE damned thing? Handunnetti bugger is deformed not only in his thoughts and actions but physically too-how can such a handicapped amputee judge a professional economist like AM? This is just like Modaka Wimalaya judged Shirani Bandaranayake! What does Hugang Hitang know about world economic concepts, systems, practices etc. visavis his shoddy little SLFP tribal and family business and politics?

Thisis a very good point no doubt about that. I have still been waiting him to respond the questions being made to him on the 7th July. I believe. He is innocient here. Hypothetical sums could always be made.. what matters should be real numbers.

If former govts had gone through AUSTURITY MEASURES of saving funds, we would have achieved our goals for the country as of now. However because of war or various issues, we the folks have been retarded……

Had MR managed the funds by appointing goodies to his regime, no billions woud have gone missing… hypothetically.. we can argue always… but we are living in real world.

              Dan Fernando,

Another question I have is that no one who is barking on roof tops on bond issue is coming out with a viable proposal on how to prevent the hypothetical thefts (insider trading), if at all is possible. They all make allegations without any solutions!

It is entirely possible that some yakkos in the CB appointed by the Mara regime are gunning for AM.

If that is the case then AM needs to tell us so, and offer a reasonable explanation of how his SIL was able to buy T-Bills at a deep discount. The fact that this occurred does not seem to be in dispute. Adding to the fiasco was the appointment of three lawyers perceived to be biased toward the UNP — rather than an independent panel — to investigate the issue.

What we have seen from the Yahapalanaya govt so far is absolute lethargy in prosecuting Mara’s corrupt cronies and hence their capacity to gain the upper hand in the moral discourse about corruption.

Of course, if you make calculations going through all the hypothetical sums, ….. even all the presidents governers of banks would have been charged to the very same manner.

AM should seriously consider taking the media, Dew Gunesekera, JVP, JO, earlier/current COPE members, AG, Central Bank, GOSL and all those so called ‘anti-corruption’ Organisations to courts. May be in an international court as well.

Only then these idiots will learn not to insult and go after a minority official in such a manner ! This is nothing but jealousy and small mindedness !

Dont make it a big issue as it really is. SLT chairman is the only person with credentials has been appointed by him – to attack him sofar except the numbers of deputy ministers from the HORA records. Both giant parties got together to achieve some key issues – if that will be done, they have to go for the devorce. Howeve those horas issue was politically targeted since UPFA is entwined by goodies and even roudies. UNP is also not out of goodies, that Thawarapperuma is behaving like former MERVIN though he has been doing a lot to the poor. All these reflect lanken society whose every second is Pro Corruption men and women. In that context – it is mandatory to protect the party too while going forward with the scheduled agendas.

      c) No what so ever foreign qualifications or experience over the years in bank sector but more or less like a Nawrad…s. so that JOINTopposition men and women can enjoy well with

      d) Better, he would be sarong weating but neck being wrapped around by a blood soaked towel as MR has been used to

      e) And you should be able to nodd your head always to both sides but taking and making decisions should be through COPE run by Mahindananda and the other few men… that have records of mal practices.

There is no smoke without fire-, None of us know this controversial character imported by Ranil Wickramasinghe. The controversies and the persons responsible are secondary to the national interests. Therefore, Maithree must think about the national interests and appoint a Senior, qualified and proven decision maker from the local Banking and Financial sector. Until Rajapaksa politicized CB we were ok. Rajapaksa and Ranil brought this financial calamity into our Motherland. These two individuals must pay the price must be held responsible. Mahendran and Cabral are merely pawns in the dirty political maneuverings and trickery of Ranil and Rajapaksa.

Has the case against Arjuna Mahendran been proven beyond reasonable doubt? For how long was his son-in-law dealing with the Central Bank before Arjuna Mahendran was appointed the Governor?

Does anyone know how much Mahendran was earning while abroad? Was he spending his money or that of the government to buy his suits or jackets? Do people understand that Rs. 143,000/= is only US $ 1000/=! Professionals earn multiples of this sum in a month!

The pettyness and meanness of the comments by individuals hiding behind their anonymity is disgusting.

Was due process operative in this case? Is the government conniving to make him a sacrificial lamb/ scape goat?

    Dr.Rajasingham,

This whole thing is such a messy fake cheap comedy. The bloody clowns who are barking on roof tops at AM must first bark at the Aluthgamage thief that they are hiding under their redda. How the fuck are they going to inquire a renowned economist of international repute with a bunch of thieves, swindlers, cheats and criminals? What will the world think about this country? With Shirani Bandaranayake fisco we lost 99% of credibility in the judiciary. That is why UNHRC strongly pursued an international court of law to investigate war crimes and crimes against human rights. The bond fiasco and the antics of the COPE will definitely erase whatever left and gained from recent corrective measures. Sri Lankans are a nation of [Edited out] forever going down the drain.

I know there’s a task of finding good interviewers or head hunter

We can depend on all the expert gossip writers headed by you at CT, including me if you like for that task.

“Why is it has to be always a man?”

Please substitute person for man, thanks for noticing my error. See you’ve the ability to notice a slightest error; a good qualification to be an interviewer.

Glad Sirisena has taken country matters into his hands.

    Whatever COPE comes up with, it is most prudent that CBSL governor belongs to the country majority where most of the money comes from ;

Lankan country finances that is Of the people, By the people, and For the people, so they shall not perish from the only land they can call their own.

Indrajith Coomarasamy is the ideal choice

OH NO Indrajith is a Tamil. He won’t do.We need an ultra pure sinhala buddhist with hardly any banking qualification or experience. Moreover, we have not had any female in a powerful position recently so we need to rectify that as well. My nominee for the position of Governor of Central Bank of Srilanka is Ramona Therese Fernando . Ofcourse I am assuming she is a female, she has a beautiful sinhala buddhist name and she has the necessary qualifications mentioned above and currently she is free.
If you like my proposal could you please vote green (thumps up).

about your comment on indrajith the last words Allah u Akbar is highly uncalled for and please dont use those religious symbols when on this forum as you may hurt the sentiments of the Muslims when we are in the process of reaching out to all communities to build an united Sri Lanka.
        thank you

“Indrajith Coomarasamy is the ideal choice”

Since he is from minority community, he is disqualified from the outset.

      They need not to apply.

I am surprised the Chief Justice is allowed to continue in his post.

So then big chief MS is going to appoint the next Central Bank Governor. If we are to go by the past appointments made by our big chief, such as ministers and deputy ministers (all top class rogues) we must get ready for more controversies more frauds and more drama.

big chief or not, he should appoint someone who could work with both parties. That is the difficulty in consensual politics. I really dont think that this way politics can last long in this country. Every seond is devioius than normal… media men work for the goons rather not being unbiased.

      People get no more facts.

Press freedom is being abused by Journalists, being passied and partial to Joint opposition in order to keep the masses in dark.

“President Maithripala Sirisena today announced that he will appoint a new Governor for Central Bank within the next few hours.”

It is days since our President made this announcement and there has not been any action yet. Just before the Vasak holidays he announced that he let us know about some ‘big decisions’, post-Vesak. We have not heard any big decisions yet!

He has realized only today that the VAT has become a burden on the people!

What is happening to him? Is he lost? Is he being drowned by a job that is beyond his capacity?

Central Bank[CB] was a unique place for intellectuals. We have seen the likes of D W Rajapathirana, H E Tennekoon, Neville Karunathilleke, and not forgetting A S Jayawardene who adorned the CB in the past. It also housed crooks like NU Jayawardene, Rasaputram, Heenbanda Dissanayake and lastly Ajit Nivard Cabraal the worst of all. Cabraal should be brought before the law together with MARA for defecating the hallowed institution. The two robbed the place left and right assisted by the likes of Ranee Jayamaha, Dheerasinghe etal. Even the present DG Weerasinghe cannot escape from the truth.

When I made the following comment on CT on 30th June ” Indrajith Coomarasamy is the ideal choice” for CB Governer I received lots of flak in response the details could be seen under my post.
Mr.President by appointing Indrajith Coomaraswamy you have made a fantastic choice as he is one of the most brilliant sons of Sri Lanka.Certain sections of the media had their own line up and Indrajith was not in reckoning but our President knows what talent the country needs for its upliftment and has acted wisely keeping the Nation in view and picked Undrajith.
Well done Your Excellency it was an excellent choice. All the best Indrajith and as Sri Lankans we know you have the capacity to deliver the goods.
